Friendoes. Hellos. I've been on the road - careening around like a farmer buckshot in a tin pan alley. Yes - I sure did mix those metaphors and I don't mind one bit. I hope this episode finds you well as I recap some of the things that have happened in the last while and I hope you find your way through the heaviness of these times. Please don't stop looking for the helpers. They are there - and they just want to help. I love you. Chat soon.My new album "Geographics" is out now on all platforms. Hello my G-town pals. I truly haven't felt like myself lately so I hope you can excuse the absence. Lots going on - and not in the positive sense. Mourning. Upheaval. Life Gut punches (and those gut punches when you're most relaxed and un-ready for the pain). But hey - I'm surviving. Are you? I hope you tune in and get some nuggets from this mining session. Countryfolk and Citydwellers: I hope you wander round to the Graventown get-down. It's been nice to get back into the Podworld (that felt really lame to write) and interview the super talented Jen Baranick from the supersonic fuzz-love-space rock band Broken Down Golf Cart. Broken Down Golf Cart are known as purveryors of spacey grunge and fuzzy weird love began as the audio/visual project of Canadian-born, Merseyside-based musician, animator and visual artist BDGC captain Jen. With a raucous, groove-glow and memory-movie dreamscapey album called "Funeral Smoker'"on the way, Jen is ever prolific and ever frontally lobed about the mammoth mind-machinery behind the creation of a new album, and we had a great chat as I welcomed her back for her second visit to the Graventown Podcast. My new album "Geographics" is out now on all platforms. Hey pals. I've been a bit delinquent in just getting back into the G town studio grind and sitting down behind the mic, but it felt great to do that today. I appreciate that you're always here listening and being rad and righteous human beings. I talked about my mental state and the importance of going analog, getting offline and connecting with yourself. I love you. Hello my dudes. I've been wandering into the waves of whimsical philosophical, nautical leagues and so this was a little carcast for you - to celebrate the olden days of ye merry graventown. I've been up against the existential wall lately so it felt good to say some things out loud on a sunny Monday in the Limestone City of Kingston, Ontario as I gazed upon the harbour. Heyo river! I love that Portlandia episode. Does anyone read these things?! Pals from all canals. It's been a second since I beckoned. Alright G-towners - get ready to turn those frowners into upside downers. It's not often I get to share cinematic geekery with an acclaimed actor and director, but Nathalie Boltt was super kind and willing to chat with yours truly for a concise but peanut-packed snickers bar of an episode. For those who don't know, Nat Boltt is a South African actor (in major productions like District 9, Riverdale and many more) director and writer whose debut feature film "Holy Days" has just been released and is crushing so many film festival minds. I finished it minutes before interviewing her and it is something to behold. The uplifting, effervescent and heavy spiritual film stars the three silver screen legends Miriam Margolyes, Judy Davis and Jacki Weaver and newcomer Elijah Tamati who steals and melts hearts the minute he's on screen. Nat also acted in the movie and talked about the strange fourth-wall breaking transition between being a character in the film that you yourself are directing. We talked about Peter Jackson. We talked about Neill Blomkamp. We talked about getting your creative dreams crushed. We talked about hope and joy. We talked about the need for more female directors. We had a great chat. Hope ya dig it.My new album "Geographics" is out now on all platforms. Friendoes: Hello. I have a special one for you golden G-towners today. Forged and led by the vision of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lee Rose, Ace of Wands has become one of Toronto's most creative and captivating bands since forming in 2017. Evoking the art-rock of PJ Harvey, the orchestral-pop of Kate Bush, and the alt-rock fuzz of Nirvana — Ace of Wands is known for their explosive and charismatic live performances, astonishing musicianship, and gothic-rock aesthetics. Lead vocalist Lee Rose alternates between violin and guitar, while simultaneously playing synth-bass foot pedals, joined by Anna Mernieks on guitar and Jody Brumell on drums. Together, they create a fantastical and immersive world of yearning, dread, euphoria, and insight — defining the essence of Dream Rock. Chatting with Lee was truly a flow state stopover, as both of us seem to have aligning views on the music world and the world at large, and we just had a poignant and pinging back and forth. Ace of Wands is sharing two stages with me (Graven) and my friend Melissa Payne very soon - March 20 at Hotel Wolfe Island in Wolfe Island and March 21 for my album release at House of Targ in Ottawa. Please come see all of us together!! Independent music makers rely on people buying advance tickets and coming out to their shows. Friends. Please enjoy the last half view of my new album "Geographics" as I pour over the songs one last time before they are fully out there and running free in the sonic meadows and swimming in your ear lakes. Melissa Payne showed up around the 11 minute mark for a surprise convo to talk about her recent healing journey and we reminisced quickly about making this record. Thank you for all the love so far. Hello friends. I'm back at it again for a special interview sesh on Graventown. To quote the great Toronto Mike: “If you grew up with MuchMusic, you understand the impact the VJs had on your life. Bill Welychka was one of the greats. We're blessed with inside access to the life and times of Bill, who it turns out is much more than a beloved VJ. He's a beloved human being.” That's what Toronto Mike had to say about Bill's latest memoir called "A Happy Has Been" - chronicling the life of the renowned Muchmusic broadcaster and his many brushes with musical and cultural fame in a very up close and personal format. We had a great and honest chat (and even got into his short wrestling career!) and I hope you Graventowners dig in with hungry ears.My new album "Geographics" is releasing (on my Bandcamp page only) through late January into late February 2026, and every Monday and Friday of those months, I'll have a new song up for you to digest into your ear canals. Howdy pals from all canals; it's been one hot minute since I've been within it. Thank you for listening and supporting - even when I'm silent and maybe slightly mentally violent (I just rhymed that - there's no cause for concern). Just a bit of a reflection pod on being thankful to play music at all and a bit of a rearview gaze on my album "Geographics" being almost fully released (and now fully released since this has come out) - thanks for the downloads and likes and kind words. Truly. It means more than you can ever know. Welcome to it. Let's screw it, glue it, and tattoo it. In this episode, I thought it would be fun to do a sonic rundown of the first 5 songs of my new album "Geographics" that started releasing on Jan. 26/26 on Bandcamp. Since Jan 26th, I've been putting out a new song every Monday and Friday and it's been a real journey, so far - and on so many metaphysical levels. I hope these first 5 songs of the record find you well and I hope it's fun to listen to some of the sonic sausage innards and casing concoction of these tunes. Friendoes. Hello. Welcome back to Graventown. Population: You. Here's a new one for your mental glue gun. I've been in and out of interviews for the new album (Geographics) so I snuck this one in and tucked it into the ether right under a finely layered stream of stardust gas. Enjoy it. Hello friends. I went on a bit of a tirade here, but the mental health battery seems depleted for so many, so I thought it was fitting. Thought I would send one out to the universe before the busyness of the Holidaze craze gets our goats. There are so many digital voices online vying for your attention so don't be afraid to shut certain ones out. Be in the moment as much as you can, because there are so many forces that are trying to take you out of the moment. All the time. Seasons eatings, my friends. Thank you for the clicks and upticks here in my tiny corner of Graventown. After the recent rad interviews of George Stromboulopoulos and Toronto Mike, it's nice to send out an old school solo mind-massager into the multiverse. I took a few minutes to pause and reflect and look a bit inward in this - the coldest and darkest part of the year. May you find your flow state where you don't have to push so hard. I hope it hits you in the heart cockles. Cockle; such a funny word. From the approved desk files of Lorne Honickman and from the top shelf blue plate specials at Palma Pasta, I was very happy to welcome Toronto Mike to the Graventown. I'm happy to be in the FOTM (Friends Of Toronto Mike'd) Universe. He's actually an incredibly and prolifically busy human being with very little windows outside of his own work, as he not only runs and produces his own popular podcast called Toronto Mike'd (that has already surpassed WTF w Marc Maron into the 1800 episode space), but produces many others - so he was a hard man to pin down. Nevertheless, we made it work and had a wondrous and whimsical chat about a swath of topics (as we always do) and I even got Mike to open up about his beginnings into the art of the interview. We yakked about Marc Maron, Joel Plaskett, Alan Doyle, Strombo, TSN's Dave Hodge, and so much more. Enjoy. (Please note; due to technical problems in the Graventown studio, Mike was kind enough to record this over zoom from the swanky Toronto Mike'd Corporate Studios - I'm still waiting for the bill. Kidding, Mike. Love you.)Catch me in a town near you in 2025 alongside Melissa Payne, Stephen Stanley (Lowest of the Low) and many other rad artists by visiting my website to see where I'm playing. Friends. Howdy. I sure haven't been around these parts but I've appreciated the clicks and upticks. Thank you! I'm entering hibernation station for this part of the season so please excuse my slow podcast delivery system, but I wanted to fire one off into the universe, regardless. I used to have a supervisor who would say "irregardless of that" all the time to try and sound smart, and it always irked me (because that's not even really a word - well, it sort of is - anyways, let's not get too deep into the word-weeds). Friends with no love ends; it's been a few seconds. I hope you're all well and raising some kindness and love-based hell. Thank you as always for being along on my podcastical odyssey. Here are some thick thoughts post Canadian east-coast traveling and unraveling after spending a week recording a new album. I talk about my last podcast with Strombo (George Stroumboulopoulos) and hitting the 100 mark, the stirring of the sonic sauce of the new album with Charles Austin and Melissa Payne and all of their beautiful and bountiful work out at Ocean Floor, and just re-regulating after the deregulating of travel and a truly immersive experience. G-towners and nonfrowners; hello. Well I did tell you that I did indeed have something epic planned for the century mark episode - and I feel pretty confident to say that I delivered on that promise of Epic-iosity. My guest for episode 100 is none other Canadian and American media personality, ex CBC and Muchmusic television host, podcaster, Apple Music showrunner and all around renaissance man George Stroumboulopoulos. George and I started chatting way back during the early days of the pandemic lockdowns, when he would have me pop on his livestreams (as just some random music guy from Ottawa) and when I was doing the graventown livestream basement shows, he would kindly boost my signal and say nice things in the chat. So as you can imagine, I was thrilled to the gills to have such a busy, massively well known and loved high-octane mind in the graventown studio with me. We talked about a metric tonne of topics; music, film, comedy, the arts in general, Norm Macdonald, Kevin Hearn, Marc Maron, Tom Green, David Letterman, The Misfits, long form conversations, human connection and all kinds of golden goose dropping shiznit. I hope you enjoyed our hang. Good things, friends. Friends. I'm incredibly close to episode 100 and I do have something special planned, and as a lead up event - I was lucky enough to pin down the unpinnable Stephen Stanley for a great return to G-town conversation about all things music, our upcoming tour, making albums in the current age, our upcoming tour, living room shows and so much more. Friends, Countryfolk and city dwellers; lend me your digital devices. Welcome back to another regularly scheduled closed circuit television program called Graventown. I was lucky enough to get a few minutes with an insanely busy Ottawa celebrity, radio and tv broadcaster, comedy advocate, philanthropic community connector and all around lovely dude and dad - Dylan Black. Dylan is someone whose interview path I happily crossed many times on Rogers Daytime TV when promoting a local Ottawa show or an album release. We had a great convo about the changing landscape of journalism and print media, online landmines, music, comedy and all things fatherhood. Friendoes. I'm on the coast and I don't have my good keyboard so this will be a quick descriptor; I had a beautiful walk home from the pub I ate at last night to my tiny room in the mountains and wanted to share my thoughts and my walk-view with all of you lovelies. Well hello, friendoes. I hope your summers are sizzling and your drinks are fizzling. Nothing like dropping an ice cube into anything carbonated. I wanted to get a few quick thoughts out into the multiverse about death. I know it's not always an easy subject to bridge, but I hope these words are timely for y'all. May death give you richness in life - that's the way the cookie crumbles for me, most days. I love you and enjoy your July!Catch me in a town near you in 2025 alongside Melissa Payne, Stephen Stanley (Lowest of the Low) and many other rad artists by visiting my website to see where I'm playing. Howdy Graventowners - I hope you're drinking up the summer months with a thirsty fury and an existential slurp. This weather is golden and we get so little of it - so may you take the time to get off the screens and just drool on your porch or lie on a park bench. Today, I was lucky to have a very cool Canadian and specifcially Ontarian-famous guest; Gisele Corinthios. Gisele is a creator, writer and performer in Toronto, Canada and for 18 years, Gisele was the host and producer for TVO/TV Ontario's top-rated educational preschool morning show called "Gisele's Big Backyard" (formerly "The Nook"). Gisele is a livewire of energy and creativity and basically built a massively watched childrens television show from the ground up and was (and still is) a household name in broadcasting. We had a lovely emotional and vivacious chat and I hope you have a listen while you light up a "dog-walker" and take a stroll. Much love, get outside and chat soon. Hello friends. I'm sending this out to you through channels of pure love and understanding - in these wild times of hate and hurt - and I hope that you're as well as you can be. I've got some summer shows coming but I've been feeling the need to just slow everything down and so I intend to do as such. I'll still be here - and hey - I'm almost at a hundred eppies (what the kids call "episodes") so I need to crack that monumental milestone - but I'm also gonna do some laying low. Some writing. Some creating. Some natureing. Some journaling. I'll see ya where I see ya. Hope you get outside and suck up summer through a straw. Friends, Countryfolk and Citykids; lend me your ears. As we rapidly approach the century mark episode of Graventown, I was mega triple pineapple lucky to sit down with one of the most renowned, busiest, hilarious and well known music makers in all Canada direct from the wanderlusty Winnipeg, Manitoba; Romi Mayes. When she's not winning awards for her heart-stinger songs, Romi is a trailblazing business woman who runs Sure Shot Bookings which is a booking company that connects hundreds of music makers from all across Canada. She is raw, unfiltered and real; my kind of human being! We had a wicked chat and I hope your ears enjoy it as much as our brains did. As one the three majestic sparkplugs that fire up the magnificent machine of the indie folk-rock/alt-country award winning band Elliott Brood, Mark Sasso had a lot to say and we had a lovely flowing chat about musicality, all things music, songwriting habits, the fashion of music and the power of songs. I really enjoyed this convo and I was thankful that Mark some time out of his busy schedule to chat with little old me. Watch for Mark's new solo side project where he's playing some new songs under the name "Oh Sasso". I actually thought his last name was O'Sasso until he corrected me in the interview. Enjoy the enlightening ear candy of our words and sentences. Heyo friendoes. Here's one from the road in this insanely magically muddy mentally marooning month of May. I'm typing this from the teleport of the toucan. Getting ready for a fun festival atmosphere. There shall be drunken throngs kanoodling and pawing each other on Princess Street tonight, dearies. Make no mistake. Hello friendoes: I hope you enjoy my return to the homestead - far from the carcast realm - and into the white hospital desk microphone majorca of the mind. In this hive-zone of busy buzzworld that we reside within, sometimes it's important to remember that a basic day with no plans or no insane tasks can be a major metaphysical gift. Had a few other mental lightning bolts that I wanted to share with y'all as well. Thanks for being here, near and dear to the Graventown ecosystem. Oh friends - these days, the good feels seem to have no ends. This was a humdinger straight from the heart of the road-weary but eye-teary Gravenator while being Peterborough bound and recapping a Toronto Tragically Hip-based Dave Bookman benefit that was a night of nights for the soul and mind for oh many reasons. I hope you are ready to cry - because I sure was when I recorded this. I love y'all so much and thanks for stopping by Graventown. Friends; this was a gushy one from the weatherbeaten civic on a post-Owen Sound/Uxbridge rip. Lots about my pal Krista and the Thornbury crew and lots about my pals in the Uxbridge region (Sandford specifically). If you're not up for some feels, maybe redirect your ear vehicles to an alternate sideroad because this sucker puts the pedal down on the love expressway. Friends; I appreciate the clicks and the likes and the lingers on this little podcast o'mine - because I'm gonna let it shine. This was a fun one to shoot into the ethersphere and you might even catch a nugget of a new song in the middle somewhere. As we wade through the murky waters of these times, I hope you can find hope - however that looks or manifests itself for you. Hope can be triggering - but it shouldn't be. With a little faith, trust and pixie dust, we will get there. More to come. Hello friends - I hope the depth of this world isn't giving you the bends, these days. Hard to escape that out of sorts wonky bonkers vibe - but we are pushing through the weeds, regardless. (Weeds? Friends without ends. Lorders without borders. How y'all doin' out there in radioland? Is it just me, or this spring seeming to be a bit bleak? Feels like there's way more room for the rich and less room for the meek. But I digress (with little success). Just wanted to fire one off to the universe and yawp one out into the void. Back on the airwaves, my dudes. It's been a minute between roughshod roadway rides through the highways and biways of middle ontario, but I'm back for a heavy hot minute. Really hope to see you at an upcoming April show - but I wanted to take a minute and indulge my mind in the topic of rest. That's right. For some of us, it can feel like laziness, but it sure ain't that. It's all the good things that your brain needs to cultivate and harvest joy and energy. I hope this hits your solar plexus in that perfect spot. You are loved. Pals from all canals; what's the hibbidy? Are you singing dippity doo dah or skippity toilet? I hope in all of the chaotic streams of info that you can settle your senses and rest your rendering system for a few moments and find your why. Dig deep into the soil and raw earth of you - you might be surprised what you find. This is the conclusion of a little series I rambled called Finding The Why in a time where it seems like we are told to have no why and to just exist. Hello friends. It's been a few weeks since I've a couple stones to throw into ye olde pod pond, but I'm back in the saddle. I thought I'd rap a bit about Finding The Why - which is a concept that is going to be important as we all make our way through the shifting sands of our current timeline. Folks - hello. Welcome back to the Graventown jamboree. Grab your sonic picnic basket for a little auditory meadow-frolic. This episode was a great and golden flowing convo between myself and western Canadian Edmontonian music maker and multi-project collaborator Mallory Chipman. With 5 records to her name and successful tours across Canada, Europe, and Japan, and an official nominee for Country Music Alberta's Folk Artist of the year, Canadian singer-songwriter Mallory Chipman is forging new paths on the music scene. Her genre-bending tendencies, powerful sound, and story-driven songwriting has been described as “some of the finest folk rock currently being made” (Amplify Music Magazine) and has set her apart as “a rising light in Canadian music” (NewTec Radio). Also known as one half of the rising alt-country duo The Goddamsels, Mallory Chipman is a true raconteuse, praised for her work as both a solo artist and collaborator, and for her skills as a songwriter, arranger, producer, and music scholar. Mallory and I played a show together at Live in Elgin back in fall of 2024, and we will surely be collaborating at some shows again so stay tuned to Graventown FM!Catch me in a town near you in 2025 alongside Melissa Payne and many other rad artists by visiting my website to see where I'm playing.
