Lanie Gardner doesn’t just write songs—she writes pages of her life and turns them into music. After her viral cover of “Dreams” (63M+ and counting), she’s gone from small-town Carolina to the Grand Ole Opry stage, proving that authenticity still wins in a world full of noise. Her upcoming album Faded Polaroids (Sept 5th) is more than just a follow-up to her debut EP—it’s a songwriter’s diary you’re invited to read. It’s messy, it’s vulnerable, it’s real life caught on tape. Along the way, she’s collaborated with Thomas Rhett (What Could Go Right), Warren Zeiders (Loving in Letting Go), and even had Mick Fleetwood play drums on High Divin’. She’s made her Stagecoach debut, joined tours with Corey Kent and Gavin Adcock, and her songs have landed in Twisters and Queen of the Ring. At just 25, she’s already living out prayers she used to whisper—singing Cry (a song she wrote at 16) on tour with Jelly Roll, making her Opry debut, and becoming one of country music’s most talked-about new voices.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
“I started singing before I could talk,” says Roberts. “Singing was just something I always did.” As a child of Music City, Jaelee Roberts was raised on bluegrass. She spent her formative years alternating between watching her dad make music on stage and watching her mom make music happen behind-the-scenes. By her teenage years, Roberts was pursuing her goals with single-minded focus. She switched to homeschooling to give herself the time and flexibility to play music professionally, joining Rebekah Long's touring band at just 16 years old as a mandolinist and supporting vocalist. A year later, she released her debut single “All My Tears,” to critical acclaim, earning effusive praise from 2023 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Patty Loveless, who said of Roberts, “She brings a vocal performance [...] that touches the core of what fires me up about music.” Jaelee Roberts couldn't be stopped. She signed a recording contract with Mountain Home Records, beginning work on her debut full-length album. Not long after, she was invited to audition for reigning IBMA “Entertainer of the Year” and recent GRAMMY Award-nominated band, Sister Sadie. Her first show just so happened to be the Opry's “75 Years of Bluegrass” concert, commemorating the famous December 8, 1945 show where the “Big Bang” lineup of Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys introduced the world to the unique and compelling sound that would come to be called “bluegrass.” It was a dream come true. She was invited to join the band full-time and has been playing guitar and singing lead vocals for them for nearly three years. This role has earned her international recognition. In 2021, she was awarded Vocalist of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Momentum Awards, a presentation dedicated specifically to recognizing and rewarding the talents of emerging artists and up-and-coming industry professionals Although the global COVID-19 pandemic slowed some things.By 2022, she had released her debut full-length album Something You Didn't Count On which became an immediate commercial and critical success. The album debuted in the Top Ten on the Billboard Bluegrass Album chart and peaked at #2 on the Bluegrass Unlimited album chart. Multiple singles from the album—including “Think Again”, “You Can't Stop Me From Staying”, “Sad Songs”, and “The Best of Me”—appeared on the Bluegrass Unlimited singles chart, and “Still Waters” and “I Owe Him Everything” have made appearances on multiple gospel music charts. The album and the musicianship behind it earned Roberts a nomination for IBMA New Artist of the Year in 2022. Not even six months later, she was awarded Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2023 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA) awards show, and Something You Didn't Count On took home the title of Album of the Year. And she's only just getting started. “It's been a lifelong dream and I'll never stop chasing it,” says Roberts. “I'll keep chasing it until I can't chase it anymore.”Jaelee Roberts is an internationally recognized vocal performer, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, and songwriter. She has performed with Ashley McBryde and alongside Ricky Skaggs on the Grand Ole Opry with bluegrass supergroup, Sister Sadie, as well as recording with Vince Gill. She has played such historic and hallowed halls as the Station Inn, The Bluebird Cafe, and the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse. She has received numerous awards and nominations, including a 2023 nomination for IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year. She has also been recognized as a member of bluegrass' preeminent all-female band, Sister Sadie, with a 2021 win for IBMA Vocal Group of the Year and 2023 IBMA nominations for Vocal Group of the Year and Song of the Year (“Diane”).
Ryan & Rory are one of country’s most exciting new duos. Ryan Follesé first broke out as the lead singer of Hot Chelle Rae with the global hit “Tonight, Tonight.” Though he found success in pop, the son of two legendary Nashville songwriters always felt pulled back to country. He found his perfect match in Rory, a powerhouse vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who cut his teeth at the Myrtle Beach Opry playing 300 shows a year. Broken Bow signed them on the spot, and the duo released their self-titled EP last summer. They’ve since dropped more singles like Them Boots, Truck Stop, and Together Again with Jamey Johnson—who rarely collaborates, but declared, “If I were a gambler, I’d bet it all on these two.” With millions of streams, a Grand Ole Opry debut, and undeniable chemistry, Ryan & Rory are just getting started. Their new song “Girls are Pretty” drops Friday!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In 2007, Canadian-born country & soul singer/songwriter Tami Neilson moved to New Zealand to marry the love of her life. In this Hidden Track Story, she shares that journey and her dreams of joining the galaxy of true country stars. Neilson's new album, Neon Cowgirl, is inspired by experiences touring North America over recent years — including the title track, which pays tribute to a genuine giant neon landmark in Nashville, an iconic and richly symbolic figure which "lights up the sky", as Tami sings. Tami Neilson shares the journey of her non-overnight success. She's lived the highest of highs and lowest of lows. She traveled across North America with her parents, and many years later with her kids. Garrison Keillor is still performing, even as he turns 83 this week. He sat down with This Is Nashville in the greenroom at City Winery before his performance in June because this city was central to his creation of "A Prairie Home Companion," which launched 50 years ago. For a long time, it was one of the biggest things in public radio. He now calls leaving the show a mistake. He'll explain. And if you're thinking, “didn't he have a #MeToo moment?” Yes, we get some rather candid answers plus some wisdom only an octogenarian could offer. NEON COWGIRL "The Neon Cowgirl-towering over Broadway like the patron saint of heartbreak in downtown Nashville as she smiles coyly over her shoulder in red cowboy boots-watched me grow up. Basking in her glow, I walked wide-eyed into the Ryman Auditorium as a 16 year-old, clutching my ticket. Later that night, dreaming of standing on that stage, I drifted off to sleep in the bunk of our home on wheels at the KOA next to the Opry. When I was 18, she saw me flipping through Loretta Lynn CDs in Ernest Tubb Record Shop after performing the breakfast and lunch shows on the General Jackson showboat with my parents and brothers in our family band, The Neilsons. At 25, she watched me running all over town, meeting up with other songwriters-writing, writing, writing-before I had to fly back home to Canada again. At 30, I returned as a newlywed on my honeymoon, flying in from New Zealand where I'd moved for love, holding hands with my new husband in Hatch Show Print, introducing him to her like a family member. A decade passed without her as I built a life on the other side of the world and raised 2 babies. My heart raced as I returned to her once again, to showcase at Americanafest, playing to 12 people at 3rd and Lindsley. 5 years and many showcases later, I swear she smiled right at me as I stopped to point her out to my two children as we walked past her, through the doors of the Ryman to finally perform for the first time. NEON COWGIRL represents a lifelong dream of chasing Nashville and country music. I've loved her my whole life, even when she breaks my heart over and over again." This weeks guest = Tami Neilson - through much hard work, fierce determination and drive has begun to make all her dreams come true. She is blessed with a voice that's been described as "a fire breathing R&B belter" by Rolling Stone. Tami has now played the Ryman, sung a duet with her hero Willie Nelson. Travelled the highways and cities of the USA and Canada in an RV with her NZ family, so they could experience where she came from and the places on the planet she was singing about. Her latest adventure was opening for Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan as part of the Outlaw Music Festival. Dreams DO come true. She's done all this while dealing with health issues and her brother Jay's recovery from major surgery.

Craig Morgan is that rare country artist who actually grew up around Nashville, but he also breaks the mold in a lot of other ways. After finishing high school in Kingston Springs, just west of downtown Nashville, Craig joined the Army for what would become a long, intense, and distinctive military career. As a member of the 101st and 82nd Airborne divisions, he parachuted into the jungles of Panama and fought sex traffickers in Thailand, among other dangerous assignments. But despite his commitment to the armed services, he always had a yearning to play music. Craig found himself writing songs based on his experiences, and thanks to the encouragement of a Colonel who thought he had an extraordinary talent, he made the leap to the music business. Now, he has a successful career, a dedicated fan base, and a body of work largely defined by his commitment to God, Family, and Country—which happens to be the name of his memoir. Sid talks to Craig about how much he loves his mom's biscuits and gravy, his new EP called American Soundtrack, and the way a family tragedy led him to write a song that's touched so many people. Send us a textWhile many businesses have abandoned terrestrial radio for social media promotion, they're missing a crucial audience. Mullins, a third-generation broadcaster whose grandfather was posthumously inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, explains how local radio creates something social platforms can't: genuine personal connections. "When they're listening to the radio, it's a one-on-one conversation," he explains, describing how live, ad-lib endorsements from trusted on-air personalities drive customer action.Host Jared from Dayton Barns and All Steel Buildings shares firsthand experience with radio marketing success. Their partnership with Real Roots Radio has connected their shed and steel building business with an ideal demographic: landowners 35+ with disposable income. Daniel shares a remarkable story about listener loyalty—how one man drove across multiple counties to patronize three different businesses he heard advertised on their station. The conversation also explores the rich "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" heritage of southwestern Ohio, where Appalachian migrants brought their musical traditions when seeking manufacturing jobs post-WWII. This cultural phenomenon has created fiercely loyal radio audiences who value authenticity and community connections.Ready to expand your marketing beyond the digital realm? Download the Real Roots Radio app or tune in to their network of six signals across southwestern Ohio. And mark your calendars for the Industrial Strength Bluegrass Summerfest, July 17-19 at the Greene County Expo Center, where you can meet the team from Dayton Barns and All Steel Buildings while enjoying performances from Grammy-winners and Opry stars. For more information or to know more about the Shed Geek Podcast visit us at our website.Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube at the handle @shedgeekpodcast.To be a guest on the Shed Geek Podcast visit our website and fill out the "Contact Us" form.To suggest show topics or ask questions you want answered email us at info@shedgeek.com.This episodes Sponsors:Studio Sponsor: J Money LLCShed Geek Marketing
