What if creativity isn't about doing more — but about trusting the seasons of your life? This week on the Embodied Podcast, I sat down with East Coast musician Christina Martin for a heartfelt conversation about music, healing, and the courage to trust yourself. Christina's creative journey isn't linear — and that's what makes it inspiring. Growing up on the windswept coast of Nova Scotia, she learned early to navigate loss, trauma, and the slow work of rebuilding trust. Trust the slow season Looking back now, she sees creativity as a cycle — one that requires rest, reflection, and space. “There were times I felt guilty for not having the energy to keep doing, doing, doing,” Christina shared. “But looking back, I see now — when the call comes, you're fueled. And when you follow that, it's a pretty cool ride.” This is what we explored together — letting go, trusting the quiet seasons, and allowing healing to happen in your own time.Healing happens in relationship Christina shared openly about her process as an artist — and as a woman learning to trust herself again after loss and betrayal. Over time, supportive relationships helped her heal and rebuild trust — with herself, her creativity, and with others. “It was a big thing for me... when I start to feel this sense of I don't want to hurt somebody or maybe my feelings aren't valid... It's because my body is still remembering a bit of this pain. It's trying to protect itself.” Less is more We also talked about letting go of perfectionism in creative work — making space for joy, presence, and connection. “Less is more has proven to bring more joy, more meaningful work, more room for just creativity and thoughts.” Trust your pace This episode is a beautiful invitation to slow down — to trust your body, your inner pace, and the cycles of creativity that move through your life. When we give ourselves permission to rest, to reflect, and to trust the call when it comes — we open ourselves to a life that feels more true. Meet Jen Boyne, the mastermind behind some of the most dazzling hand-sewn Western and stage wear you've ever seen. From rhinestone-studded suits to capes adorned with album-inspired overlays, her designs are pure showstoppers. Jen's creations have dressed stars like The Trailer Park Boys, Elliott Brood, Christina Martin, and, most recently, Morgan Toney—who shone in her suit at the Boston Tree Lighting! But there's more to Jen than her expert craftsmanship. As a single foster parent, she's weaving more than fabric—she's creating a life filled with generosity, resilience, and love. In this conversation, we explore how fostering has enriched her family and her journey as one of the hardest-working (and funniest) entrepreneurs we've had the pleasure of meeting. (P.S. But a study backed by Sam Altman (creator of ChatGPT) tested that theory out. They handed 1,000 people, $1,000 for 3 years. Some of the recipients did make good financial decisions. But overall, the group ended up a little deeper in debt and had a lower net worth! I'm not surprised. If you give people free money, they'll work less. Incentives matter. It happened to Tawanda Hall. Hall was behind on her property taxes. She was on a payment plan, but short $900. What did her county government do? They took her entire $308,000 house. Hall tried to pay off the debt but says, “They didn't want our money… They wanted our house." I covered her story two years ago. Her lawyer, Christina Martin of the Pacific Legal Foundation, told me this is unconstitutional. “The government can't take more than it's owed,” she explains. Now, she's won in the US Supreme Court. The justices voted 9-0 that such takings are unconstitutional. Yet, in a handful of states, greedy government officials still steal people's homes. A year after the release of Storm, Christina Martin returns to her old stomping ground in New Brunswick to play three shows with help from the Elm City Quartet.
Mike and Kristen's first live podcast recording at Alderney Landing Theatre followed a magnificent performance by award-winning musician Christina Martin, who premiered her ECMA-nominated album Storm with a full band and a stunning string quartet. The atmosphere was electric, with roses falling from the ceiling and a breathtaking moment of gang vocals that featured a cast of local characters including former podcast guests: James Mullinger, Katie Kelly, Nancy Regan, Krista Keough and Steph Purcell. Mike and Kristen not only emceed the show but also seamlessly transitioned into their live podcast, capturing the raw post-performance energy. Christina, still basking in the afterglow of the performance, fielded questions from an engaged audience, offering rare and intimate insights into the immediate experience of a musician post-show. The evening was made even more memorable thanks to the expert sound work by Ground Sound's Trevor DeSouza, who ensured every note resonated perfectly in the theatre. I'm super excited to share a fantastic conversation with Christina Martin, exploring the journey through life's emotional storms as a songwriter. We talk about evolving as songwriters, gaining confidence, growing more comfortable in the studio, discovering who we want to be as artists after recording a few projects, dealing with fears and nerves, having creative freedom while songwriting, facing life's emotional storms, recording at different locations other than a studio, embracing vulnerability and authenticity, and more. Christina also shares details about her album, Storm. I loved having Christina on the show for such a vulnerable chat, so I hope you're inspired and feel less alone facing your own storms. Join me as we get a chance to sit down with Pacific Legal Foundation Attorney Christina Martin to chat about her victory in the Supreme Court in the fight to defeat state equity theft. This amazing unanimous decision by the highest court is only matched by the astonishment that this case ever needed to go to the Supreme Court of the United States in order to be defeated! With the other stories dominating headlines, you might have missed a United States Supreme Court case being fought across the pond. The case involves 94-year-old Minneapolis woman Geraldine Tyler, who in 2015 had her condo seized by Hennepin County due to unpaid property taxes amounting to $15,000. A year later, the condo was sold for $40,000, and Tyler received nothing. Represented by Christina Martin of the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF), Tyler is now fighting her case in the Supreme Court, arguing that the state had no right to retain the remaining £25,000 from the value of the sale. To discuss this, IEA Communications Officer Harrison Griffiths spoke to PLF attorney David J. Deerson.
On Wednesday, April 26th, the Supreme Court heard oral argument in Tyler v. Hennepin County, Minnesota. Hennepin County foreclosed on Geraldine Tyler's home to cover her delinquent property taxes, selling the home for $40,000 and keeping the $25,000 surplus as profit. Tyler argues that the county cannot take the equity in her home and has asked the Supreme Court to declare the forfeiture of her home's equity an unconstitutional taking and excessive fine. The county maintains that Tyler had time to pay her taxes and is not entitled to any refund. The Supreme Court will consider whether the county's actions violate the Takings Clause and whether the forfeiture of property worth far more than the debt plus interest, penalties, and costs is an excessive fine within the meaning of the Eighth Amendment. After the oral argument, Christina Martin, Counsel of Record in the case for Pacific Legal Foundation, joined us to break down the proceedings.Featuring:-- Christina Martin, Senior Attorney, Pacific Legal Foundation-- Moderator: Tony Francois, Partner, Briscoe Ivester & Bazel

When it comes to an audience at arm's length – namely, our current and potential customers – we are practiced at using our communication skills to help them understand the perceived value of our products and overcome any possible anxiety. But the group of people we are closest to – the ones working inside the very same walls as us, so to speak – our colleagues. Meet Christina, owner and operator of Frame Masters Gallery in Audubon Park. From an early age, Christina always found happiness in designing, building, dismantling, and tinkering. In her shop, she gets to do all of the above while also figuring out how to frame just about anything you can think of. Even more incredible, she also takes the extra time to really get to know and understand her customers, making sure everyone is heard and leaves her shop with a smile (or crying happy tears.) Either way, it's all very inspiring. You can also visit her shop online at http://Fmgorlando.com or on Instagram @theframemastersgalleryhttps://linktr.ee/helloapgdpod

We need to understand that educators are people too. So how have all of the challenges of the past two years affected them? In this episode, Maribeth Henry, M.A. LMFT talks to six educators from various backgrounds and parts of the U.S. about what it's like to be in the classroom today. This conversation is a chance to hear from educators about how parents can give them the support they need. The conversation spans parent-teacher communication, helping kids build resilience, the roles parents, students, and teachers play in the classroom, developmental gaps caused by COVID school closures, and how we can keep kids safe at school. Our Guests: Brent Beaty, Katie Ethridge, Hannah Henry, Christina Martin, Kristen Mascheroni, and Josh Monroe This more extended episode includes Maribeth Henry's introduction about why she thought it was important to assemble this group and have this conversation now. We hope you find this conversation helpful as you prepare to send your children back to school.

Christina Martin, Senior Attorney at the Pacific Legal Foundation, joins us to talk about what she calls “home equity theft” – the practice in some states of a taxing jurisdiction foreclosing on a tax lien and, in the process, forfeiting all the owner's remaining equity in the property - no matter how small the tax lien or how large the remaining equity. The most vulnerable in our society are also the most likely victims. Ms. Martin discusses where this happens, why it happens, and why she is motivated to stop it. Introducing Legends of Wasteland City, a post-apocalyptic anthology series, following the lore surrounding the lost city that appears from the ashes of a dead world once a year. Our first story comes from Skofield's Drifters as they embark on a mission to find a device that can harness the power of Touchstone, an old world military generator of sorts, and hopefully create a better world decades after the fall. In this first epsiode, we meet Captain Digits as she tries to make sense of some recent "expenses" and Doc Skofield who's eccentric ventures often lead the Drifters to the edge of trouble.
