This is the last podcast devoted to a topic from my new course How to Play Faster, which is available now on Fiddle Studio!A quick addendum to the description of mindful practice: I somehow blanked on the best use of slow, mindful practice: improving your tuning! Our tune for today is Old Granny Rattle Trap, interpreted from the fiddling of Natalie Padilla from an Old-Time jam in Northampton, MA. I play the tune in cross A, strings tuned to AEAE. Welcome to the final instalment of the three-part Australian Investors Podcast mini-series on ethical investing in Australia, sponsored by Australian Ethical.I'm joined again by Mike Murray, Australian Ethical's Head of Domestic equities. In Part One of this series, I spoke with Dr Stuart Palmer about how Australian Ethical use their Charter to exclude about half of the companies on the ASX from the team's universe of investment ideas. In Part 2, Mike walked us through how he and the analyst team research companies and identify long-term compounders like Cochlear (ASX: COH) or Fisher & Paykal (ASX: FPH).You can go back to Parts One and Two by using the links in your podcast player. While you're there, don't forget to subscribe to The Australian Investors Podcast and, if you're really keen to help me out, leaving me an honest review. In this episode, the final part of our mini-series on ethical investing, Mike outlines his thesis for three Australian companies that are, at the time of recording, owned by the Australian Ethical High Conviction ETF.These companies are Healius Ltd (ASX: HLS), a laboratory testing and medical business formerly known as Primary Health Care; Pexa Ltd (ASX: PXA), which is by far Australia's most dominant property settlement and exchange platform; Downer Ltd (ASX: DOW), an industrials business working across many industries. As you'll hear from Mike, these companies have some wrinkles. But Mike does a great job of laying out his thesis.Watch the video version on the Rask Australia YouTube page.Take one of our intelligent & FREE investing courses (think ETFs, shares & valuation) on Rask Education and join our insightful FB community.Score $100 off Owen's high conviction ASX & US share research service, Rask Invest! If you want to thank us for putting this show together, please give The Australian Investors Podcast a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts - it's a 5-second task that really helps support the show (and puts a big smile on Owen's face).Full individual disclosures for each guest are available via the show notes page. This week, we present a follow-up to the interview I conducted last week, in Episode 27, with Gary Zimmer. I hope you enjoy the chance to dive deeper into some of the topics raised in the previous episode. Gary has been a key figure in the development of regenerative agriculture in America, is a sought-after speaker, and is the author of both The Biological Farmer (now available as an updated and expanded second edition), and Advancing Biological Farming. He is the founder of Midwestern BioAg, a consulting and fertility provision company headquartered in Madison Wisconsin. Gary's consulting has largely been in broad-acre crops and dairy, but the powerful information he offers can be universally transferred to any crop. Gary's analogies between ruminant digestion and soil mineralization helps us understand concepts in biological farming. This talk is sprinkled with fast-paced wisdom, anecdotes, research, and philosophy. The conversation centered on three topics which are critical to every farm: Trace Minerals Gary's preferred trace mineral nutrition sources and distribution methods A lively discussion on sap, tissue, soil and dairy ration testing Using mineral inputs when and where needed, with purpose, based on data Nitrogen Management Nitrogen management is NOT merely a numbers game Digestibility and solubility are the critical considerations in N management The use of various nitrogen stabilizers such as polymer coatings, humates and carbohydrates The use of S, Mg and Mo to stabilize nitrogen in the soil Growing crops without purchased nitrogen Removing N availability as a limiting factor by growing N Carbon A perceived N response which is actually caused by solubilizing carbon and releasing CO2 The economics of mineral balance in terms of yield bump vs. yield loss How to best think about cover crops and their use Thank you to Gary for joining us twice and hope everyone enjoys the show! Support For This Show & Helping You Grow This show is brought to you by AEA, leaders in regenerative agriculture since 2006.
