Chris Hoke told the midday show that the Steelers should trade TJ Watt. The guys connected that to the Mike DeFabo story that came out earlier today about the players sobbing over Mike Tomlin stepping down as the Steelers head coach. We also got JJ Watt chirping Poni. Shouldn't Watt want to play for a team that can win it all now as his career turns to the back nine? Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said there will not be an attempt by the Steelers to tank or take a step back to take a couple steps forward. Ray said the arrow is now pointing to 2027 for a QB in the draft because the guys just aren't there this year and the Steelers are selecting 21st. Ray said the Steelers should approach both TJ Watt and Cam Heyward as trade pieces this off-season. Ray said the Steelers' job is attractive due to stability, but the Ravens probably have the best situation since they already have Lamar Jackson in-place. Ray gets the feel that the Steelers have a lot of respect for Sean McVay given the way they have opened their doors to interviewing ‘his' guys. Ray commented on Jeff Hafley getting an interview and talked about knowing Jeff back to his days at Pitt. Total Request Thursday.

In this episode we say farewell to our summer friends as our unseasonably warm weather transitions into the blustery cold we expect from November.Spend some time with the remaining stragglers of summer's chorus from Halloween into November 1st (recording was between ~10 PM – 3 AM). You'll hear our dwindling insect friends making last-ditch pleas for love or defending their turf. Look, I'm not a bug person, but from online reading, I gather that these insects hatched later and are still in their adult stage looking to mate or defend territory. I know a few scientific bug people personally, and they wouldn't help me understand why these little bastards are still making noise. Science people who are quick to ask me for graphics help illustrating random insect **** but will not return my calls about the bug lifecycles in my backyard. Oh, my backyard insect questions too pedestrian for you?Where was I? Yes, I'm not a bug person. I love how they sound outside and am positive they are extremely important to our world and human interests. However, I do not want these little creatures in my house. That's why I like spiders — they play goalie, intercepting these freeloader ******* before they can get into the climate-controlled expanses of our home.Similarly, I don't like spiders when they are inside. And for the record, I'm mostly a catch-and-release person (vacuum and dump outside). Except when spiders land on me — I was working in the basement, a spider repelled on my head, and I started punching myself in the face.
The Connecticut Audubon Society releases its annual State of the Birds report. Connecticut lawmakers will be back in Hartford this week for a two-day special session. Advocates say the government shutdown will have a lasting impact on local food pantries. New York approves a natural gas pipeline for waters off New York City. Plus, UConn researchers look into the history of a controversial institution for the disabled.
BT and Sal dive headfirst into the fiery controversy surrounding the Blue Jays' dominant home performance, addressing the listener calls and media buzz suggesting sign-stealing through the Yankees' Pitch Com system. The hosts vehemently push back on the "cheating" narrative, though they acknowledge sign-tipping and traditional gamesmanship have always been part of baseball. The focus quickly shifts to the Yankees' Game 3 victory, dissecting Aaron Judge's clutch home run after the Blue Jays' manager, John Schneider, made the "stupid" decision to pitch to him with first base open. They label Schneider's choice a choke moment, contrasting it with Judge's command in the big moment. Finally, the segment closes with a Call of the Day debate on the proper pitching strategy for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in tonight's pivotal Game 4, weighing the option of pitching around him versus attacking him, particularly with the new pitcher, Cam Schlittler, on the mound.
Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you kick off your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Tyler's big betting weekend, the Elks' victory over the Roughriders, Connor McDavid's contract status, and explored other topics that arose. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life with a discussion about a variety of random topics, including the COVID-19 hockey bubble and weird memories from that period in time. Needless to say, talking about sports during COVID times almost feels alien, given how everything is long back to normal less than five years later. Talking sports led Tyler to talk about his Saturday at the Elks game, and how it was an electric finish for both the team and his wallet.Changing gears, the guys walked through their squad ride bet for the Ryder Cup and how the weekend was not only entertaining but also profitable. The guys also discussed the player feedback after the tournament was done, and whether the crowd was getting too carried away with their chirps and barbs for the European players. Part of the discussion also centred on whether the noise was worse because the tournament took place in New York, an area known for its aggressive fans, even at the best of times. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including the Connor McDavid contract situation, body language, and whether we're still reading way too much into the situation despite him still being unsigned. Sticking with contract discussions, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life by wondering what is going on around the league and whether the other unsigned deals are making the same kind of waves. We are hearing more from George Pickens as he begins his Dallas Cowboys career. What should we expect out of Pickens this year? Will he have better numbers than DK Metcalf? The guys think it will blow up by Columbus Day, but Donny doesn't rule out that Pickens has 1,000 yards now that he has the best QB he's ever had.

It's been claimed that on Election Day in the US 280,000 X users closed their accounts. At the same time, Bluesky saw a massive spike in new users, up from 13 million in October, surpassing 21 by November. Rose Wang, whom I'm honoured to speaking with today, is quoted as saying that the company's 20-person team has been in "firefighting mode" as this spectacular growth has far surpassed their projections and has caused some technical stress. Bluesky is touted as a far more decentralised and democratic digital experience, that aims to avoid issues that have dogged all other social platform as they scaled and commercialised their business models. Let's find out how Rose and her team intent to achieve this. ---------- Rose Wang is Chief Operating Officer of Bluesky Social, a microblogging social media service. It was spun out from Twitter, after its acquisition by Elon Musk. Although similar to Twitter in look and feel, Bluesky Social has ambitions to expand and innovate its platform significantly. Rose was also CEO and Co-founder of Chirps, a snack product made from insect protein, with the progressive ambition to reduce land and water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. ---------- LINKS: https://x.com/iamrosewang https://x.com/bluesky https://www.linkedin.com/in/rosewang20/ ---------- SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain ---------- TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND: Save Ukraine https://www.saveukraineua.org/ Superhumans - Hospital for war traumas https://superhumans.com/en/ UNBROKEN - Treatment. "When I was a kid, we used to visit an open-air animal market in Kadıköy, İstanbul. It was a part of our daily routine before taking a shared taxi back home. An opportunity to see different species of animals was an excitement for a little one. I am familiar with various birds from there. However, all were caged and imported from another part of our world to my hometown. "Maria Margaronis captured a similar soundworld from Chios, however its backstory is completely different. In her documentation, we are hearing the birds in restriction. Chirps, shrieks, and other sounds of the birds are loud. The engine noises of the vehicles resonate the cage that they are inside. As if she intentionally recorded a memory snippet from my childhood years. "I listened to this field recording while awaiting a residency permit for yet another time. From a long way from my hometown. Along with bureaucracy, paperwork, administrative unit visits, trips to foreigners' office, translated documents, criminal record prints, notarization procedures, months in uncertainty, different legal statuses, restrictions, having limited rights, communicational difficulties, cultural differences … and grief, hüzün, homesickness, ambivalence, loss, longing, sense of belonging, hope, nostalgia, friendships, phone calls with family members… sometimes as an expatriate, an exile, a migrant, a legal alien, a border worker … for new beginnings. "Maybe with some similarities with the people in Chios. "The title "Altın bir kafes" which means "a golden cage" in English. It refers to a Turkish proverb: "They put the nightingale in a golden cage, and it still sings the tunes of its homeland." This proverb expresses the value of freedom and the longing one feels for their homeland. It conveys that even if the nightingale is placed in the most beautiful cage, it still misses its homeland, emphasizing that a person is happiest where they are free. "I used concatenative synthesis to imitate flocks of birds, and granular synthesis to create various textures. A cura saz (long neck lute) and bendir (frame drum) that are two instruments from Turkish culture are also represented within the composition." Welcome to the podcast for alpaca people!Geese joined the alpacas in their field just before feeding time, which got a little complicated. A cold but dry frosty morning made for a lovely time standing with my female alpacas while they had breakfast. Unfortunately, the sun had not arrived at the spot I was standing, so I got a little chilled – especially the hand holding the phone as I recorded this episode.I would like to take the protective coats off our two old girls but it is still too cold at night. Spring may be coming but it's not quite here yet.My new Wellington boots are helping me better navigate the muddy slopes. Warm and dry feet are essential for any alpaca owner. The shift in dynamics after losing Millie has meant Hermione stepping up as the matriarch and enforcing who she is prepared to share feeding space with. As spring teases, the growth of nettles marks the slight warming, yet the frost poses a reminder of lingering cold, necessitating extra care for our older alpacas. Managing the alpacas' diet during these transitional weather periods is crucial – balancing hay consumption with the slowly emerging grass. It's a delicate equilibrium. I encourage everyone to spend time with their alpacas, embracing the quiet yet profound joy it brings. Connect with us at steve@alpacatribe.com with your stories and insights. Until next time, keep embracing the alpaca lifestyle, and remember, the most significant moments often come from the simplest of daily interactions. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoyed it.If you would like to be in touch, please contact me by email - steve@alpacatribe.com - or leave me a voicemail from your browser.Alpaca Tribe is hosted and produced by Steve Heatherington of Good Podcasting Works, which is part of The Waterside (Swansea) Ltd
