MONDAY MANNA - "Broken Cisterns to Overflowing Grace" (Bro. Wonder Joky) - 15th September 2025
In this powerful sermon, we dive into the timeless wisdom of scripture to explore the concept of "Drawing Living Water from a Broken Cistern." Have you ever felt spiritually dry or disconnected? Many of us turn to worldly sources to fill the void, but these cisterns—broken and flawed—can never truly satisfy our thirst. In this message, we examine how the prophet Jeremiah spoke of God's people forsaking the living water of God for cracked, unreliable vessels. Through biblical insights, practical applications, and personal reflection, this sermon reveals how we can turn away from the empty promises of broken cisterns and return to the abundant, life-giving waters that only God can provide. You'll be encouraged to recognize the deep need for spiritual renewal and discover the lasting satisfaction that comes from drawing near to Jesus, the true source of living water. God pours out His life, provision, and Spirit into us. The problem is, we are a people who leak. We are like broken cisterns, that cannot overflow into others. This week, we look at Pentecost and see how it informs the way we are called to worship today.
Have you ever felt like you can't contain the wonder, pain, and complexity of this life? -that at times, the container of your heart feels fractured or inadequate to receive the gifts and losses life offers. Or when you see the evil, violence, cowardice, and greed of the leaders in our world, do you wonder if we have truly matured in our humanity? Why is there such a gap between our vision of what we could become and where we find ourselves individually and collectively? Listen as we discuss the wonder of a life greater than us.
Don't leak precious living water!
You become who you worship. In this relatable message, Peter encourages us to put our intimacy with God first. We must never forsaken God, and always remember our first love.
Jeremiah 10:12-13
In this episode, we dive deep into Jeremiah 2:13 (KJV) — “For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” What does it mean to forsake the fountain of living waters? How do we, even today, create “broken cisterns” in our lives? Join us as we unpack this powerful verse, exploring its historical context, spiritual implications, and practical relevance. It's a call to return to the source — to God Himself — and to stop seeking satisfaction in things that ultimately leave us dry and empty.
““For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!” (Jeremiah 2:13 NLT-SE)
““For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!” (Jeremiah 2:13 NLT-SE)
The Lord pleaded with His people yet again, after they had deserted their God and sought unholy and useless alternatives. They had laboured to dig reservoirs to hold valuable and lifesaving water, but they held no water. How similar to us, in labouring to find alternatives to salvation in Christ alone by faith alone.

God gave us the glorious Old testament through the nation of Israel, that they might be the light unto the world to bring people to the true living God. they failed musically because they did not approach God by faith into the rituals of the ceremonial, dietary and moral law of God. The law was perfect but mankind was not and God made a system of sacrifice from Adam, but the blood of bulls and goats could only cover but could never take away sin. those rituals were but a shadow of the reality of the one who would come take away sin which is Jesus Christ and once and for all he entered into the most holy or holies and was the satisfaction of a sacrifice that for those who believe would receive forgiveness and imputed righteousness. no more empty systems thug by man's imaginations to religion. Pastor Andrew Burkhart introduces our upcoming Counter Formation over gender and sexuality. He uses Psalm 42 and Psalm 63 to point to the fact that our souls thirst, long and desire for things that don't satisfy. Countering our desires and bringing our thirst to God is the only way to quench our desires.

We're invited to reflect on the profound difference between religion and relationship with God. The story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well serves as a powerful metaphor for our spiritual journey. Just as Jesus offered 'living water' that truly satisfies, we're challenged to look beyond the 'wells' of tradition, ritual, and religious identity that may leave us spiritually thirsty. The message encourages us to seek a genuine, transformative relationship with Christ rather than relying on external religious practices. This shift from 'religion' to 'relationship' promises a wellspring of spiritual fulfillment that bubbles up to eternal life within us. We're reminded that God is actively 'conspiring for our good,' setting up divine appointments in our lives, just as He did for the Samaritan woman.

The people of God are to look only to the Lord. He is our sufficiency for all things.
Jeremiah 2:11 says that God's people cut off their relationship with Him as the fountain of Living Water and they carved out cisterns for themselves that would not hold water. Today, we too have many broken cisterns. We don't really believe that Jesus can fill us to overflowing. So, we seek ways to fill ourselves up. Ask God to help you identify your own broken cisterns and look to Him for ways that He can renew you and meet all of your needs.
