We have more access to God's Word today than ever before. We can read it on our phones, listen to it in the car, highlight it, underline it, and even memorize it but the question is not simply, “Have I read the Word?” The question is, “Have I allowed the Word to change the way I live?” Because God didn't give us His Word just to fill our minds with information; He gave us His Word to transform our lives, to equip us for every good work, and to make us useful vessels.

Jesus commended nearly everything about the church at Ephesus - their work, their endurance, their discernment - and still said He had something against them: they had let go of the love they had at first. In Well Beloved, Alex Klott walks through Ephesians 5 to show that the problem was never what they were giving God, but where they were giving it from. Because you can do all the right things from the wrong place - and Scripture's tell isn't a sin list, it's fear.
