Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam says that when you control the tongue, then all the other senses become controlled after that. Then, by that practice of chanting Hare Krishna, you will come to a point where it tastes good and you don't want to stop, and then automatically—systemically—you'll feel satisfied. All the senses become satisfied when you please Krishna by chanting with your tongue: jihvā ādau—first thing, the tongue. And toleration. We do various kinds of duties, and we also do austerities, and in those things you have to learn the art of toleration. Krishna mentions that in the Bhagavad-gītā in many different places, but it serves us well. I'll tell you how to do it. It's called "Tender Loving Neglect." So, there's a way in which there are urges that come up, agitations. You don't say, "No, get out of here, never ever come back!" You just say, "Yeah, I know you're there. I'll get to you later. For now, I'm not going to do anything." As Haridāsa Ṭhākura did—when a prostitute came, he didn't say, "Scram!" He said, "I'll be with you in a minute, I've got to finish my rounds." We know how to put things off. If you've ever had an important paper to write, and then you kept doing everything else—you washed your whole room, you figured out a formula for creating more efficient gasoline, whatever you might do to avoid writing the paper—that's procrastination. Do the same thing when there are sense urges: neglect them. In March of 2015, Denise Huskins was kidnapped, drugged, sexually assaulted, and held for 48 hours. When she was released, police called it a hoax and demanded that she apologize for wasting resources. The media dubbed it the "Gone Girl" case and death threats started flooding in. Except it wasn't a hoax at all. It was a Harvard-educated serial rapist named Matthew Muller who'd been terrorizing California for years. In this episode, we'll go through the kidnapping, the police misconduct that revictimized the survivors, Detective Misty Carausu's brilliant investigative work that finally caught Muller, and how Denise and Aaron turned trauma into national advocacy. Plus, we are asking them, and you, an important question this season: "If the birth of Christ never happened, what part of your life would be most different? We had Arlene Pellicane join us to discuss the importance of parents engaging with their children rather than relying on phones to do it this Christmas. Arlene is a speaker, author, and host of the Happy Home podcast. She is also a marriage and parenting expert. Dr. Neely is the newly retired Vice President and Academic Dean of Moody Theological Seminary. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Biblical Interpretation, Old Testament, and Biblical Preaching at Moody Bible Institute. Then Chris Baker joined us to share his testimony and how God led him to start a tattoo ministry, INK 180, that serves those who have been branded through sex trafficking and gang life. There's an old saying, and it came from (I looked it up) William Gladstone from the 1600s. He said that "Justice delayed is justice denied." Have you ever heard that, any law students in here, or anybody who watches the news? "Justice delayed is justice denied" means when you don't mete out justice when it's due and you delay it, then generally it never happens. In the same way, you can apply this to the itches of the senses by saying, "Sense gratification delayed is sense gratification denied." This comes up in the pastime of Haridāsa Ṭhākura, who was visited by somebody in the middle of the night who wanted to interrupt his chanting. And he told that person, "Fine, but wait later." He didn't say no; he just said, "Just sit down, and later we'll talk about it." And "later" never came. In fact, that person became a devotee and didn't want to distract him anymore—minus all the details. So, rather than saying "absolutely no, never again" and then bouncing back into the same thing one was doing before, one can apply this principle of neglect. Prabhupāda mentions it in a purport; we could call it "tender, loving neglect"—TLN, not TLC. So, when those distractions come into one's mind, urges to do something foolish that becomes entangling, then one can say, "Later," delay. Does anybody here know how to procrastinate? Well, there's a university major you can take; it's called applied procrastination, and you can learn it from the Bhagavad Gītā and from this lesson today: when the inferior objects present themselves, if you have the power to procrastinate at that point, that's a good thing. Just say, "Fine, I acknowledge you, but I can't engage with you right now—later," and just keep putting it off. You know how to do that, right? I'm expert at it. So you just have to find the right thing to neglect and keep neglecting it while you steal time to do your bhajan and keep doing it, because there will come a point when the scales will tip in favor of the transcendental sound, then you move to the safe side in devotional service. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
