In this episode, we perceive a disgruntled comparison, as depicted in Sangam Literary work, Aganaanooru 265, penned by Maamoolanaar. Set in the ‘Paalai’ or ‘Drylands landscape’, the verse introduces an intriguing historic detail. In this trip to the drylands, we receive some vivid word portraits, as we listen to the lady say these words to the confidante, when the man continues to remain parted away, having left in search of wealth: “Brimming over like smoke, soaring in the wide sky, flowing with snow, akin to a burst of flame, appears the crimson Himalayan mountains. Would it be equal to that? Or, take the riches that the battle-worthy Nandars, having much fame, had gathered in the renowned city of Patali and then drowned in the waters of the Ganges, lost in time. Would it be equal to that? May you live long, my friend! Forsaking me, the one having wavy tresses, akin to fine slit in the shade, a voice like the flute, the one akin to a doll, he has parted away, letting my shining bangles slip away, making my eyes shed tears, filled with much sorrow, to the mountains in the scorching, formidable drylands, where after killing a fine, sturdy bull, roasting its fatty, fleshy meat in the fire, akin to demons from a fear-evoking tradition, they eat the dry meat and to quench the thirst that arises, those men with curving, sturdy bows and harsh eyes, drink crystal clear, well-aged rice liquor named ‘Thoppi'. Then, with meat-covered hands, and unclean mouths, to the tune of a tufted eagle-owl's ceaseless hooting, in the streets of the hamlet with burflower trees, they sway around and dance, close to the hills of Venkatam, where elephants with red foreheads, are to be found! What is the true worth of that wealth he seeks in these spaces, with more intent, upheld higher than me, pray tell?” Let’s brave the scary drylands and learn more! The lady starts by describing the Himalayas with a stack of similes, such as smoke and flames, and presents its soaring personality, and she asks if the wealth the man seeks is greater than these mountain ranges? From the physical wealth of a natural feature, the lady turns to man-made wealth of a certain clan of kings named ‘Nandas’, who are said to have ruled over a city named ‘Pataliputra’. Apparently, they then sank this accumulated wealth in the waters of the Ganges and it was lost for all time. Wonder what made those Nandas destroy their hard-earned wealth? In any case, the lady asks whether the wealth the man seeks is greater than this wealth of the famous Nandas. Then, she talks of herself, calling her a doll, having a voice like that of a flute, tresses akin to the river silt in the shade. Modest lady, indeed! She turns to describe how the man has left her, ruining her health and beauty, making her filled with sorrow and suffering. And where has he left? Predictably, to the drylands, the lady adds and to sketch this space, she paints an image of highway robbers with harsh eyes and bent bows, feeding on the roasted flesh of a bull they killed, drinking rice liquor known as ‘Thoppi’, and then, without even washing their hands or mouth, dancing to the hoots of a tufted Rock Eagle-owl, in a drylands hamlet, filled with burflower trees, close to the Venkatam hills in the north. The lady concludes by pondering on the great worth of that wealth that the man has forsaken her for! In essence, the lady talks about how she cannot understand the man’s quest for wealth instead of relishing the joy of togetherness with her. A striking instance of how priorities seem to clash between the genders even two thousand years ago!

Read OnlinePeter began to say to Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Mark 10:28Peter had just witnessed Jesus' conversation with the rich young man, to whom Jesus said, “Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me” (Mark 10:21). After the young man went away sad because he had many possessions, Jesus turned to the disciples and lovingly explained the radical demands of the Gospel: “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:25). This statement was astonishing to the disciples, and Peter's response reveals a common tendency for us all: He began to think about himself. The Gospel can be embraced in two ways. First, with a more intellectual approach, we can study, understand, and explain Jesus' teaching. This is important, especially for preachers and teachers. The second way is more challenging: We must hear the Gospel, believe it, and, with the help of grace, live it. When engaging the Gospel in this second way, we often do exactly what Peter did: We think about ourselves and whether or not we live up to it.Both approaches are necessary. Understanding the Gospel intellectually is a crucial starting point. Too often, we water it down to an exhortation to be kind to others, say some daily prayers, go to church, and avoid serious sin. Those who intensely study the Word of God, however, will discover so much more. Jesus' many teachings, when clearly understood, will challenge even the greatest saint to greater holiness. Even those who “have given up everything” to follow Jesus will be challenged as they are confronted with the depth of our Lord's Word.Once we understand the radical demands of the Gospel, we must do what Peter did: We must apply it to our particular situation. This introspection is good and necessary and is a sign that the Gospel is sinking in. Like Peter, we might at first justify ourselves, saying, “I have given up everything to follow You, Lord.” But we must then look deeper, more honestly at ourselves, and evaluate our lives in the clearest way possible.Jesus' response to Peter is the response He makes to us as we go through this self-evaluation, even if it tends to be more of a self-justification. Jesus gently explains that those who radically follow Him without reserve, giving up “everything” to follow Him, will receive two blessings.First, they will receive “a hundred times more now in this present age.” This is not a promise of riches, material prosperity, good health, or freedom from suffering, which Jesus emphasizes by His follow-up statement: “with persecutions.” However, it does mean that the spiritual blessings we will receive in this life, if we radically give up everything to follow Him, are far greater than anything this life can offer and will flood our souls with peace and satisfaction, even in the midst of persecutions and every form of hardship.Second, Jesus also promises “eternal life in the age to come.” This promise, though desirable, can at times feel abstract. It is sometimes difficult to get excited about the promise of eternal life while we are still immersed in the concerns of this life. Of course, we will not think that way once our life on earth is complete. On that day, the promise will become very real and remain so for eternity. Reflect today on Jesus making these two promises to you. Do you believe that giving up “everything” and following Jesus will produce “a hundred times” more than what you give up? What attachments does our Lord ask you to relinquish? Believe what Jesus says. The life of holiness, as modeled by the saints, makes great demands upon us. If we believe this and live it, then the second promise will become our hope and eternal delight. This life is short. Turn your eyes to eternal life in the age to come, strive for that gift, and both promises will become a reality in your life. Most generous Lord, the spiritual blessings You promise to those who give up everything to follow You far surpass anything this life can offer. Grant me the grace to understand this truth, believe it fully, and live it wholeheartedly. May I journey through this life with my eyes fixed on eternity, anticipating the great rewards You have prepared for those who follow You without reserve. Jesus, I trust in You. “Follow your heart” sounds inspiring—but Proverbs 3:5–6 offers a better path: trust God over your own understanding. Scripture reminds us that the human heart can be unreliable (Jeremiah 17:9), often shaped by emotion, culture, or pride rather than truth. Real clarity comes not from looking inward, but from surrendering fully to the Lord and allowing Him to direct your steps. God doesn’t just redirect our paths—He reshapes our desires. As we stay rooted in His Word, He aligns our hearts with His will, replacing confusion with conviction. Instead of chasing what feels right in the moment, we’re invited to follow the One who sees the full picture and leads with perfect wisdom. Highlights “Follow your heart” is cultural advice, not biblical direction The heart can be deceptive and influenced by emotion or pride True guidance comes from trusting God, not personal understanding God transforms our desires as we seek and obey Him Scripture renews our minds and anchors our decisions in truth Following God leads to clarity, purpose, and alignment with His will Obedience often requires surrendering plans we once held tightly Have an idea for our newsletter? Full Transcript Below: Forsaking Following Your Heart By: Emily Rose Massey Bible Reading: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct[a] your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV). Shortly after college graduation, I became a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; I repented of my sin and surrendered my life to Christ, committing to take up my cross and follow Him no matter the cost. Yet I still wanted to pursue my original plan to become an actress in Los Angeles. As a Christian, I believed I was called to be a light in a dark place, so I was supposed to use my talents for Christ in Hollywood. I was receiving mixed messages from trusted believers because they kept telling me to trust God with the plans to pursue my dreams. This just led to more confusion. Trust God with my plan and my heart’s desires? Again and again, the phrase “follow your heart” was echoing through my mind. This phrase seems to be very popular in American culture, even among Christian circles. You can find these three words boldly displayed on T-shirts, on Instagram graphics, and even heralded by some influential professing Christian leaders. “Follow your heart…” - just a harmless motto, right? It sounds really encouraging, doesn’t it? Yes, very encouraging, almost Disney-like, but definitely not Biblical! The Lord spoke these words about the heart through the prophet Jeremiah: “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV) As Christians, sometimes we fall into the trap of giving man’s words more weight than the Word of God. I wanted to encourage us to look to the direction found in scripture for those who are God’s children. A very familiar, but powerful passage found in Proverbs gives the believer wisdom: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct[a] your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV). Intersecting Faith & Life: If we put our trust in anything or anyone but the Lord, we will constantly be disappointed and led astray from God’s perfect will for our lives. We must trust in the Lord with all of our heart, which should never be filled with more of this world than God’s Word. I’m so thankful that during that time in my life, while I was faced with a major decision, I kept my heart full of God’s Word, which helped me renew my mind so that I was filled with faith to trust God when He began changing my desires to follow and obey Him most of all. One month after I decided not to move to Los Angeles, realizing that pride was actually driving my desire to pursue an acting career, I was introduced to my now-husband, and the rest is His Story. My advice to you, beloved one, is do not follow your heart- follow God instead. He knows what you need more than you do. Trust Him with your entire heart and let him mold it to look more like His. He will never lead you down the wrong path! The culture around us often loudly proclaims how important it is for us to pursue our dreams and destiny by listening to our hearts and following them. But God’s word is very clear: our hearts can often bring confusion, and the only One we can trust to follow is the Lord. If you are born again, God has given you a new heart in Christ, yes, but your flesh is always at war with God’s desires and longs to lead you away from God’s will. We find God’s will in His Word, so we must ask the Lord to help us have a hunger to hide it in our hearts so that we will not sin against Him. God’s word is what renews our minds so that we are able to walk in obedience and look more like Christ to the world, so that they may know that His ways and thoughts are higher and better than man’s. The Lord can help us not to lean upon our own understanding and trust Him above all, not our hearts’ desires. Let us be diligent to ask the Lord to mold our hearts to more closely resemble Jesus. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost! 2 Why spend money on that which is not bread, and your labor on that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of foods. 3 Incline your ear and come to Me; listen, so that your soul may live.I will make with you an everlasting covenant—My loving devotion promised to David.God's people were charged with a two-part crime. If you hire Gordon Ramsey to teach you to run a restaurant, you're off to a great start. If you follow his instructions for how to organize your kitchen, you're really on the right path. But if you ignore his instructions for how to properly sear Ahi Tuna, you're going to set yourself back. If you then ask for his guidance on plating and presenting Bananas Foster, he may have some questions before you continue working together. In this week's message, James warns us of the dangers of asking God for his guidance in one area of our lives while blatantly ignoring his instructions in another.

Send us Fan MailWe continue our discussion of authority by noting that Paul used a plea as a direct statement concerning what the Christians at the church in Corinth needed to do. In Acts 20 verse seven we find Paul preaching at the church in Troas on the first day of the week and we are told they had the Lord's Supper on that day. We talk about what this tells us about when to observe the Lord's Supper and why this is important. Glenn begins the next section of our discussion by looking at what the Hebrew writer said about forsaking the assembling of ourselves together and what the assembling requires. Arnie reminds us of what Jesus said about the extent of His authority. We move on to a discussion of the two kinds of authority, general and specific, and why this is so important to understand. We examine several instances in the Old Testament, noting the general and specific authority God used in His instructions. In our next episode, we will note the results when God's specific instructions are not followed. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible Handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

Paul left no doubt regarding the seriousness of his letter by immediately following his greeting with a pointed rebuke. There was no "catching up" with the Galatian believers or gradual transition into the reason for penning this correspondence. No, he was writing with great concern and a compelling sense of urgency, having learned that they were already moving away from the gospel he had only recently brought to them. And to move away from his gospel was to forsake the God who had called them and to whom they had responded in faith.
Join me for a humble look at a psalm that was very important to Jesus. He quoted it. He quoted it at His most difficult moment, twice. It starts with a feeling (forsakenness) and ends with a fact (it is finished). In between, we'll see whether the Father leans in or out. Bernie Diaz Church Life “Kingdoms in Conflict and Confrontation” Acts 19:21-41Spirit Led Persecution (vv.21-23) Satan Led Accusation (vv. 24-29) Ro. 1:22-23, 25 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.... 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, Jo. 15:18-19 18 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 2 Pet. 2:1-3, 14-15a 1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep... 14 They have eyes full of adultery,[a] insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! 15 Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray.Spirit Blessed Resolution (vv. 30-41)
by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on December 7, 2025) As we saw in the first half of this sermon from our exposition of Nehemiah, the zeal of the Jews in Judah had subsided after the initial fervor of the revival. Those who had rededicated themselves to the worship and support of the Temple had...
by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on December 7, 2025) In the chapters leading up to this final chapter of Nehemiah, we have seen how the fervor of revival overtook the Jews that had returned to Jerusalem. Not only did they rededicate themselves to the Law and the work of the Temple, but they promised...

30/11/2025 Gospel Sermon on: Luke 14 : 25 - 35 25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it-- 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, "This man began to build and was not able to finish.' 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. 34 "Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? 35 It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" Glory be to God forever.

Join Dr. Edith Davis as she continues her critical discussion on unity in the body of Christ, tackling the challenge of a diverse population, numerous denominations, and internal conflict. God is preparing His Church, His bride, for His return—a Church purified, "without spot, without wrinkle, without blemish." This process, she explains, requires the Church to emulate the first-century believers: becoming unified and single-minded through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Dr. Davis shares personal experiences and powerful biblical examples to illustrate the necessary steps for transformation. The keys to becoming unified and focused include: -- Embracing the Command to Love: While "sheep bite" and inflict wounds, we are commanded to love one another, even those who hurt us. -- Refusing to Be Offended: Being offended or taking up the offense of others is a blocker that hinders God's flow through His human vessels. -- Maintaining Single-Minded Focus: Like Mary, the sister of Lazarus, we must sit at Jesus's feet and remain focused on Him, not scattered like Martha. -- Forsaking the Past: Like Ruth, we must be willing to leave behind our old culture, gods, and life to follow the Lord completely. -- Prioritizing God's Presence over Kingdom: Like King David, who valued God's presence above his kingdom, our greatest desire must be for the Lord Himself. Scriptures for Further Study -- Ruth 1:16 -- Matthew 26:6-13 (Mary anointing Jesus) -- Esther 4:16 -- 2 Samuel 11-12 (David and Bathsheba) This is episode 382. +++++++ Check out my new website: https://www.enterthegloryzone.org/ MY AUDIO BOOK IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE You can Divorce Proof Your Marriage by understanding the Secret Keys of Love. As we wrap up our "Essentials" series, we tackle a subject that tends to be tough for many to hear. How generosity is essential to our growth as Christians. The truth is that living a generous life helps us to know God better and trust Him more. God was generous with us and gave His Son as a gift, so, we should be inspired to be generous as well. Inviting God into your finances helps us to see where we are at and how to take our next step forward from there. Forsaking the "consumption assumption", we prepare our hearts to always ask where our resources need to go, each time they touch our hands. And a heart of generosity helps us to love God and love others. The ultimate truth this week is that generosity is essential to maturing in Christ. - Key Verses // John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 8:7, 2 Corinthians 9:7 - For Sermon Notes, the Connect Card, and our other online resources: https://linktr.ee/Celebrationchurchlive

Ezra 10 | Ezra gives us a beautiful picture of what happens as God revives and restores his people. Though beautiful, there is brokenness that happens in the beauty. One of the marks of revival is the confession and forsaking of sin. Ezra 10 gives us a powerful picture of what it looks like to allow the mourning of sin to lead to the confessing and forsaking of sin. As we see our sin for what it is, take heart, we will see our Savior for who he is as well.
In this episode, Lindsey Maestas tackles the outrage and confusion surrounding Charlie Kirk's death with a bold Christian perspective. Why casual Christianity is no longer acceptable — lukewarm faith won't survive in a world that mocks conviction. Why celebrating murder is pure evil — and how Christians must reject a culture that cheers for death. The weaponization of memory & “martyr” narratives — how both sides twist a man's life and death for political gain. The silencing of dissent and free discourse — why cancel culture threatens both faith and freedom. God's uncompromising view on murder — the sanctity of life and the danger of playing judge. God's call to radical love over destructive division — how believers can be peacemakers in a fractured, hostile world. This is a wake-up call for Christians who are tired of surface-level faith and cultural compromise. With biblical truth and real talk on politics and discipleship, Lindsey calls us higher: to boldness, holiness, and unity in a world that's tearing itself apart.
WHEN a psalm is quoted helps us understand its original intent and purpose. Of note, Ps. 22 is quoted twice when Jesus was slowly being suffocated on the cross. We'd probably benefit by giving it our attention. If you were near death, what psalm would you quote? Is the "why have you forsaken me" psalm actually about forsaking? Probably not. Stay with me on this one...https://youtu.be/kUDIy-4iLVU
As Christians, we are never more like Jesus than when we forgive with the same grace that He forgave us. In this episode of CPXL we see a story of Sanctification. As Philemon must wrestle with Paul's letter to accept Onesimus not as a slave, but a brother in Christ. Forsaking his rights as a citizen and accepting the call to give grace in the Kingdom of God.

Tony continues in his series The Toxic Soul and in this sermon he leads us to think about sin and how poisonous it is to the soul. It would seem we forget just how lethal sin is and in this sermon we are reminded that when we sin we forsake God, try to make life work on our own, are deceived, and harden our heart. No one gets away with sinning.

Send us a text In this episode, we study through the 2nd chapter of Proverbs, and the dangers of forsaking wisdom. We discuss many important things found within this powerful chapter Solomon wrote. To forsake wisdom is to be a fool, or at least to act like one. There is much to be learned in life, and there is a wealth of information to gain here. There is a great need within all of us for Wisdom and Discretion, and we can find that in the Lord. We highly encourage you to study God's Word with us today!
