Branden and Maurice chatted with Grand Nationxl members Kevin Allen, Mani Draper, Brookfield Duece, Kate Lamont and Sndtrak, to learn more about how it all came together. 2:59 Organizer Kevin Allen talks about bringing this project together and the inspiration behind it. He says it started with a mass text and then it turned into an ecosystem of mature, grownup rap. They talk about how it's actually worked in their favor. 11:04 - Grand Nationxl collective talk about how songs came together with no egos. They also speak on the choice to make music for adults and letting the beat and let the energy dictate what happens. 16:29 - Producer Sndrtrak talks about how he shifted his production to fit the direction of the project. They also talk about the level of honesty in the project where they talk about holding down jobs and living regular lives. 20:49 - Grand Nationxl crew talk about how "organic" the project came together, but there was also a lot of coaching and communication to make sure the verses and songs were as tight as possible. Mani also talks about wanting to get as many different kinds of artists possible involved in the project. 29:44 – The collective share how what they learned from the Bay Area's history of independent hip hop and how it influenced how they are promoting the project. They also speak on how they describe their releases as television episodes instead of albums. Listening to Twice on Sunday for the first time took me back. To hear a collective of artists come together to create an art piece that feels timeless, sonically sound, lyrically complex and insightful - reminiscent of the Dungeon Family. Moe Green, Kevin Allen, Brookfield Duece and D. Bledsoe, four members of the collective Grand Nationxl, were guests on the podcast speaking on the release "Twice on Sunday (Season 1)". They talked about who's the best emcee in the crew, the benefit of vet emcees working together and a grip more. Peep episode 101 of Klyph Notes featuring Grand Nationxl.
