In this episode I welcome Fr. John of God, as we prepare for Christmas. We talk about some principles of our moral conscience, how it is the God-given help to know what is right and wrong. We discuss topics like what is a guilty conscience, an erroneous conscience, culpable ignorance and invincible ignorance, and how we can sometimes silence our conscience. Finally, we give some great tips that can help make good decisions and discern the Will of God. In Christmas Christ becomes man and is born to bring us the truth that leads us to Heaven! - You can find the topics discussed in this episode in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, numbers 1786-1802. - Fr. Patrick Wainwright is a priest of Miles Christi, a Catholic Religious Order. - Visit the Miles Christi Religious Order website: https://www.mileschristi.org - This Podcast's Website: https://www.forcollegecatholics.org - To learn about the Spiritual Exercises (silent weekend retreat) preached by the Priests of Miles Christi, visit: https://www.mileschristi.org/spiritual-exercises/ - Recorded at our Family Center in South Lyon, Michigan. - Planning, recording, editing, and publishing by Fr. Hurry, hurry, step right up and follow us into an episode filled with beats, bars, and the God MC himself. This week's episode sees Hilary and Cody marveling over the second album from Eric B. & Rakim. We flip out over the exquisite samples (shout out Bob James!) and Rakim's mastery of flow and rhymes. Studios get blacked out, there's a feud over cereal...it gets in tense. This is a landmark record in the evolution of hip-hop. "Follow the Leader" put everyone on notice that these guys had not only had claimed the throne, they had zero intention of letting it go any time soon. Eric B. & Rakim elevated the art form and established the template from which every modern hip-hop artist has taken more than a few pointers. Thanks for listening! Emeritus is an appellation bestowed upon a person who has personified excellence in their respective profession, (usually a former holder of an office, especially a college professor) having retired but allowed to retain their title as an honor. On this 54th episode of Conscientization 101 podcast, we present part one of a two-part dialogue with Raggo Zulu Rebel to discuss his retirement from his over two decades musical career, and why he is deserving of the designation of emeritus. It has been an honor to be privy to the eloquence of this scribe, our dear brother, Raggo Zulu Rebel. In part one of this trenchant, evocative, and sapient series we discuss the following: The thin line the music industry creates between commodifying music and true cultural expression Bourgeois privilege given to artists African-centered dilettantes/opportunists vs. growing into a real understanding of building an African-centered, working-class political economy, and much more! This episode features music from: Chairman Maf – This World from his album MUFF Tha 4orce – My Brother's Keeper (Instrumental) ,and Raggo Zulu Rebel from his albums God Complex, Holy War, WildFire mixtape (official mix by D.J. Jay Z’s career defies easy categorization. His artistry and business sense are as influenced by his past career as a drug dealer as they are anything else. Jay Z has reached unprecedented heights as an entertainer and an entrepreneur, and it almost never happened. All because of a stabbing. Before there was Biggie, Pac, Jay, or Nas--the gods of the hip hop pantheon--there was Rakim. No one before or since has changed the rap game as much as Rakim--but why does it still feel like his legacy goes unrecognized by the majority? Why do the innovators and trailblazers of hip hop get relegated to the periphery of its history? What does it mean to be a paradigm-shifter within a given art form? Has hip hop lost sight of its roots? In episode 22, we're taking on all these questions and more, but mostly we're celebrating and discussing the work of the John Coltrane of hip hop, Rakim Allah. In this interview M.anifest talks about his return to Ghana and his experiences in both the US and Ghana. As an artist whose music reflects Ghanaian, African, and Diaspora experiences and cultures, M.anifest brings an important level of intellectual complexity to hip hop culture. When I point these things out in the interview, M.anifest says that he does not want to “be an alternative to the mainstream, but to be an alternative in the mainstream”. In the interview M.anifest talks about how his return (& his experiences in both the US and Ghana) has been reflected in his music. He discusses the music industries & creative scenes in the US and in Ghana, African MCs in the US hip hop scene, his impact on the hip hop & music scene in Ghana, and his collaborations with other artists, including the late South African hip hop artist, Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP). In this episode we begin with a look back, musically, at Manifest’s career. We begin with the song “Africa Represent” from his 2007 album Manifestations, then “Motion Picture” from the 2011 album Immigrant Chronicles: Coming to America, and his 2016 single “God MC”. We will end the show with the song “Hand Dey Go, Hand Dey Come” from his 2016 album Nowhere Cool. Second week of Advent: FAITH in the Journey to Bethlehem “I feel myself in a mystery of Light—this mystery that comes from Faith in God, God in me and I am nothing, lost in the Light as a small drop thrown in the flame, and I was in the flame, where I found strength, grace, life, peace and love.” Sister Lucia of Fatima How fitting that we celebrate the great feast of the Immaculate Conception during the Advent season. Mary conceived without sin was the start of our salvation and the fulfillment of the promise of a Messiah. It was the prophet Micah who foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. The second candle we light this Sunday is called the “Bethlehem Candle”; it represents FAITH, recalling the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. Let us make the journey with them during this Advent season. As we do, we can go forward with the certainty that God has a plan for us, a destination where we will encounter Him. Like Mary and Joseph, we may not know the challenges and disappointments we will face along the way. But, our Faith tells us to trust that God has everything in His most capable hands. The journey to Bethlehem is one we must undertake if we are to live and grow in FAITH. The darkest path there will lead us to a great Light. “He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the Lord, in the majestic name of the Lord, his God” (Mc 5:3).
