This week on Drop the Ball in partnership with Farm to Fountains, we chat the Royals bringing in the fences at Kauffman Stadium. Along with the International signing class the Royals have for 2026, there's a couple good gets by the boys in blue. We also discuss what trade partners are left for the Royals as we think they're not going to make the "big move" this offseason. Cags and Jonathan India have very big seasons for the Royals this year, and we need to take as much pressure off Jac as possible. We end it with a message from Matt: DON'T SETTLE or you will be in the same spot that you were in 2025. And of course we end it with America's favorite segment: Drop the Ball!
The Royals are moving the fences in. What this means for the '26 Royals and beyond.David Lesky (Publisher - Inside the Crown/@DBLesky), Les Norman (Former Royals OF/Author - Teaching the Tools of Hitting) and Soren Petro (Sports Radio 810-WHB, 810whb.com/@SorenPetro) break down what the effect of a smaller ballpark will be for the hitters, pitchers and the and the fans…- Biggest winners and losers?- Will this attract more free agents?- Does it change the type of players the Royals look for?- Will it affect the Outfielders defensively?- Why not move Center Field in as well?- How many Homers will the Royals hit in '26?
Episode 131 of Tablesetters is a reaction pod focused on a pivotal stretch of the offseason, as a major pitching commitment in Boston, a franchise-defining signing in Chicago, a stalled superstar market, and a rare ballpark adjustment collectively show how teams are adapting to risk, scarcity, and roster timing heading into 2026. We open in Boston, where the Red Sox are set to sign left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez to a five-year, $130 million contract with no deferrals, no opt-outs, and no no-trade protection. The deal represents the largest free-agent commitment of Craig Breslow's tenure and a clear pivot back toward rotation strength after Boston stalled in its pursuit of an infield upgrade. Suárez joins a rotation led by Garrett Crochet and recently bolstered by Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo, signaling a belief in run prevention, depth, and managed workloads over chasing innings volume. From there, we shift to Chicago, where the Cubs make the biggest offensive splash of their offseason by signing Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal with significant deferrals. We break down why this move reshapes the Cubs' lineup, how it reflects a philosophical shift from the Ricketts family, and what Bregman's arrival means for the infield picture alongside Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, and Matt Shaw as Chicago pushes firmly into a win-now posture. Next, we zoom out to the top of the free-agent market, where Kyle Tucker remains unsigned. We discuss reports that the Mets have offered a short-term deal with a $50 million average annual value, while the Blue Jays have made a long-term offer, highlighting the growing divide between extreme AAV flexibility and traditional long-term guarantees — and why Tucker's decision could reshape the rest of the offseason. We close in Kansas City, where the Royals announce changes to the outfield dimensions at Kauffman Stadium, moving in the fences in both corners and the alleys while lowering wall height. We explore why this calculated adjustment is aimed at boosting offense without compromising pitching, how it aligns with the Royals' left-handed core, and what it says about teams looking for marginal gains beyond the roster itself. Steve and Devin connect the dots between market behavior, roster construction, financial flexibility, and environment, focusing on how these moves reflect a league increasingly split between certainty, creativity, and controlled risk. ⚾️ One week, four signals, and a clearer picture of how contenders are being built.
Craig Breslow definitely pivoted after losing Alex Bregman and beefed up the starting rotation by signing Ranger Suarez. This feels like a good move for the Red Sox to make, but doesn't quite mend all the fences.

I think fences are what caused Paul and Barnabas (two men who had partnered in planting churches across the Roman Empire) to reach a point where they called it quits. They had prayed together, labored together, and witnessed God's power together, but their relationship fell apart because of fences. And some of us are dealing with a fence or fences right now. We have barriers with family members, friends, coworkers, church members, or even spouses. If there's anything this message invites us into, it's learning how to tear down the fences that ruin our relationships.

Your brain splits off traumatic memories to protect you, but healing means discovering layers you didn't know were buried. A child taught to watch for kidnapping at school can't feel safe even behind fences while other kids play freely, and recording that memory decades later reveals the mind buried the worst part until feeling safe enough to remember. Real-time inner child work demonstrates how placing your hand on your heart and speaking directly to that frightened part creates the relief you've been craving. Abuse survivors feel frustrated when "new" memories surface, but it means you're finally safe enough to handle them, and your sensitivity isn't a flaw but the exact quality that sustains human connection. A team of landscape architects studied the effects of providing a fence around a preschool playground. On playgrounds without fences, children tended to gather close to the school building and their teacher and didn’t stray away. But on fenced-in playgrounds, they enjoyed the entire area. The researchers concluded that boundaries can create a greater sense of freedom. This seems counterintuitive to so many of us who think boundaries restrict enjoyment. Yet fences can provide freedom! God underlines the freedom His boundaries provide for us. In offering the Ten Commandments to Israel, He promised that a “prosperous” life would result from living life within His divine boundaries. “Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess” (Deuteronomy 5:33). Here the concept of prosperity includes a life lived with good results—a life of quality. Jesus, who fulfilled the law with His death on the cross, proclaimed, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32). Indeed, God’s boundaries are for our good. “Fences” can free us to enjoy the life God created us to experience with Him.
