A worthy endeavor for a lumberjack. Wood is good. Paper products, housing and real fireplaces need good wood.  But what about trees destroyed for no good reason?   Few reporters ever sold more newspapers and magazines than legendary sports columnist Rick Reilly.  This talented Boulder native knows Donald Trump from celebrity and sports circles. Rick is not impressed especially after researching his bestseller, Commander in Cheat – How Golf Explains Trump. What an honor to be joined for a funny, wide-ranging discussion with this world class journalist.   Among the many egregious acts of Donald Trump was his chopping down a grove of trees along the banks of the Potomac River so golfers at his Trump Washington National Golf Club could see the famous river Washington once crossed.  Trump got fined but he didn't care. After all, didn't George Washington once cut down a nearby cherry tree?   Dave Gunders, our show's Troubadour, weighs in with his perfect song about a mighty two-hundred-year-old oak tree felled by a rich fool who felt entitled. Notwithstanding is the most impassioned song you will ever hear about a tree that got chopped down. You'll love the song and its creator.   We look at the rampant destruction wrought by our President in his effort to avoid accountability for his actions. Elections are all about accountability. Trump is now messing with the US Postal Service to cheat to avoid the outcome he so richly deserves. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold will not let it happen on her watch. Jena joins me in a special session of Craig's Lawyers' Lounge.   Breakdown-   Rick Reilly - 4:15 Dave Gunders - 52:39 Jena Griswold in Craig's Lawyer's Lounge - 1:23:37 Craig's Poetry Corner - 1:41:45 Craig V. There's no doubting that US President Donald Trump loves to golf. His self-named organisation owns or runs nearly 20 golf courses around the world, including one in Doonbeg and it's been reported this week that since he came President in January 2017, he has played around 274 games of golf. Not bad for a man with a particularly busy job. In fairness to the US President, he has been described as being pretty good at golf, in fact, American sportswriter Rick Reilly says he could be one of the best golfing presidents in recent history. However, in his new book Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, Rick Reilly also reveals that Donald Trump is a bit of a cheater on the course. Speaking to Dermot and Dave this morning, Rick spoke about his encounters with Trump on the course, how he can see parallels between the US Presidents golf style to his role in the Oval Office and how Trump once tried to cheat against Tiger Woods. For decades, a range of authors have tried to explain who Donald Trump is, what makes him tick, and, since he has become president, what drives his political decision-making. Legendary sportswriter Rick Reilly thinks one of the best ways to understand who the 45th president of the United States really is as a person is to study how he golfs, a sport Reilly reveres. In his new book, Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, Reilly takes readers on an on-the-ground and behind-the-scenes look at Trump's ethics deficit on and off the course. Reilly has been with Trump on the fairway, the green and in the weeds and has seen firsthand how the president plays—and it's not pretty. Based on his personal experiences and interviews with dozens of golf pros, amateurs, developers, partners, opponents and even caddies who have firsthand experience with Trump on the course, Reilly takes a deep and often hilarious look at how Trump shamelessly cheats at golf, lies about it, sues over it, bullies with it and profits off of it. Reilly, in conversation with beloved Bay Area sportswriter Joan Ryan, will outline a new and amusing way to think about the current president, his administration and one of the country's most popular sports. Claims of “no collusion” on Russia is one thing — but is cheating in golf a whole other game? A new book entitled “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump” by Rick Reilly chronicles all the ways President Donald Trump plays loose on the links, even allegedly cheating against Tiger Woods. We opened the lines to ask our listeners: Could this cheater’s spirit damage Trump’s 2020 chances? Then: Brexit for dummies with Boston Globe columnist Alex Beam. His latest book is “The Feud: Vladimir Nabakov, Edmund Wilson and the End of a Beautiful Friendship.” The Red Sox are off to a rough start; Tom Brady has joined Twitter; and the Celtics are coping with racist taunts from a “fan” in the crowd. Trenni Kusnierek, an anchor and reporter with NBC Sports Boston, joined us for that and more. Many people in America are grappling with a retirement crisis — one third of retirees have no savings at all. Katherine Newman, the interim chancellor at UMass Boston, joined us to discuss her latest book, “Downhill From Here: Retirement Insecurity in the Age of Inequality.” Lunch is the new breakfast, with lunch bells going off as early as 9 a.m. in school cafeterias across America. Food writer Corby Kummer joined us for this and more. Kummer is a senior editor at The Atlantic and an award-winning food writer and a senior lecturer at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition and Policy. We discussed Frank Bruni’s latest piece about being a culinary curmudgeon: Instead of looking for the latest trendy spot, Bruni is now looking for comfort and familiarity, safety in the known. We then opened up the lines to ask our listeners where they land. CNN’s John King joined us to go over the latest political headlines. King is CNN’s chief National Correspondent and host of “Inside Politics,” which you can catch Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. and weekdays at noon. And finally, media maven Sue O’Connell joined us for her take on Fortnite — a force of evil? O’Connell is the co-publisher of “Bay Windows” and the “South End News,” and the host of NECN’s “The Take with Sue O’Connell.”
