We open this show with Rob in the thick of Tropical Storm Hillary and the earthquake that shook him from his birthday hangover. And while talking about parties, the rumors about Joel Embiid’s wedding guests heat up the conversation about his future in Philly – but Rob feels like he’s not going anywhere. We’re also joined by legendary NBA photographer Andy Bernstein, who has chronicled SO many of the league’s most iconic moments. Andy shares stories about how he got started in sports photography, being clobbered by Shaq during the Western Conference Finals, capturing that candid Jordan moment when he was crying over the Larry O’Brien trophy, and some of the best moments he has been able to capture in NBA history. Plus, after Giannis said he’d play for Saudi Arabia for the right amount of money, we wonder if they would even contemplate starting a rival NBA. And if Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen get married, Larsa would become Michael Jordan’s DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, which blows our minds when thinking about the family dynamic. Our Big Shot of the Week goes to the Florida lifeguards who formed a human chain to save a swimmer, and another hilarious round of Shot Clock!

In the season 4 opener, I had the pleasure of interviewing my good friend and classmate Brody Hannon. Brody was the photographer for Loyola High School's varsity sports teams throughout his four years, capturing the best moments on the field or in the gym. He's also had the opportunity to get his work published in the Los Angeles Times 18 times and even photograph Kings games, all while working with and learning from LA legends Eric Sondheimer and Andy Bernstein. Check out his work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brody_hannon_photography/ Aside from Brody's interview, I also analyzed the top moments from the 2022 NBA Draft, from the winners to the loser and everything the Lakers did. Finally, I discussed the whole Kyrie Irving situation, what could happen with Kevin Durant if Irving opts out, and how Russell Westbrook could be a factor.
On the Friday, Howard Beck sits down with NBA photographer (and Hall of Famer) Andy Bernstein to discuss his career taking some of the most iconic NBA shots of all time, navigating around court side celebs, what goes into setting up for a Finals game, and his new project he'll be working on with Vanessa Bryant See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This month we are exploring an under-appreciated part of public history and culture—civic education and citizenship. This episode, episode two of this season, is all about voting and the importance of registration. History has the power to help up us understand who we are and how we got to our current moment, but that knowledge means nothing if we don't engage as citizens. So this month we will be focusing on voting and elections—the core of any democracy and the heart of citizenship. On part one of elections month, we are speaking with Andy Bernstein, the executive director of HeadCount. Andy Bernstein helped found HeadCount in 2004 and became its executive director in the spring of 2008. Under his stewardship, HeadCount has registered nearly 500,000 and become a leader in harnessing the power of music to drive social change. HeadCount is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works to register voters and turn out the vote, especially among young voters. They partner with musicians, festivals, and artists all over the world to raise awareness about voting and making voting fun.
HeadCount's Co-Founder and Executive Director Andy Bernstein has led the organization in registering over 650,000 voters to date. Michael discusses with Andy his forged alliances with hundreds of musicians and entertainers, and his production of dozens of highly-successful events and initiatives. They talk about Bernstein's childhood, how it has shaped him, and what inspired him to create HeadCount. Of course, with the forthcoming presidential election, they dive into the importance of voting, including voter's rights and how to vote while contemplating the ever-changing idea of what the American dream means in our country today. **Please excuse the audio quality on this episode (technology sometimes fails us).
