Corruption Central has new address: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. From Trump's Weaponization slush fund to international negotiations including Trump Towers and sketchy stock trades and Crypto deals, this next gift should come as no surprise: Dell wins a $9.7B Pentagon deal — weeks after Trump publicly urged people to “go out and buy a Dell” and after Michael Dell's family pledged $6.25B to seed the administration's “Trump accounts.” We'll check out the contract (a five‑year Core Enterprise Technology Agreement to supply Microsoft licensing, cloud subscriptions and on‑prem software). We'll drill down into the Pentagon's claim the award followed a competitive process and will save roughly $422M a year, and we'll examine why timing — stock purchases, public praise, and Dell's ties to the Trump administration are now prompting ethics and conflict‑of‑interest scrutiny. We'll roll this story past Michael Shure and Mo Kelly as we lay out the top Stories of the week in ‘This Week in Politics.' Michael Wolff and Joanna Coles dissect Donald Trump's declining health as the president heads back to Walter Reed for another physical exam and questions swirl around whether the nearly 80-year-old can physically survive a second term. From Trump's repeated cognitive tests and mounting exhaustion to behind-the-scenes panic over Iran, Cuba, Marco Rubio, JD Vance, and the future of the MAGA succession fight, the episode spirals through paranoia, power, and the growing sense that the pressure around Trump is finally starting to show. Wolff also reveals extraordinary new details from his legal war with Melania Trump, including how Trump-appointed judges, Boris Epshteyn, and Todd Blanche fit into what he describes as a justice system now reshaped around Trump himself, before Joanna Coles caps things off with the surreal spectacle of Usha Vance's baffling new children's web series and the increasingly strange cast orbiting the Trump universe. Trump's grip on the Republican Party is no longer theoretical—it's playing out in primaries across the country. Chris and Sean break down a wild week in 2026 politics, from Rep. Thomas Massie's Kentucky primary loss to Brad Raffensperger getting knocked out in Georgia, Trump-backed wins in Indiana state Senate races, and Sen. Bill Cassidy's collapse in Louisiana. What do these races tell us about the modern GOP? Is this just Trump loyalty—or a deeper Republican realignment driven by populism, MAHA, foreign policy, and grassroots frustration with establishment Republicans?  Then the guys turn to Texas, where Trump's endorsement of Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate race against John Cornyn could either seal a MAGA victory—or make the general election much more expensive and unpredictable for Republicans.  Meanwhile, Democrats finally released their long-delayed 2024 election autopsy—and immediately tried to distance themselves from it. The report warns that Democrats lost ground with men, non-college voters, rural voters, and irregular voters, but the DNC's reaction may say even more than the report itself. Are Democrats serious about learning from 2024, or are they still avoiding the hard truths?  Plus, Chris and Sean bring it home to Arizona with the increasingly nasty AZ-01 GOP primary, where Joseph Chaplik's attack on Jay Feely over Feely's work helping Haitian men come to the U.S. sparked a major firestorm in one of the most competitive congressional districts in America.  From Trump endorsements and GOP primary wars to the DNC's messaging crisis and Arizona's toss-up House battleground, this episode of Light Beer Dark Money covers the fights shaping 2026—and the bigger political realignment heading into 2028.  #LightBeerDarkMoney #Trump #GOPPrimary #DNC #2026Midterms #KenPaxton #JohnCornyn #ThomasMassie #BillCassidy #BradRaffensperger #MAHA #ArizonaPolitics #AZ01 #JayFeely #RepublicanPrimary #Democrats #StarWorldwideNetworks #PrattMarketingAgency  Subscribe for weekly conversations on Faith, Freedom & Free Enterprise with Sean Noble and Chris Clements. From Trump, media outrage cycles, and Democratic Party infighting to Israel, Iran, immigration, cancel culture, and the death of political nuance, Maher and Fetterman dive headfirst into the forces pulling America apart — and why so many voters feel politically homeless right now. Fetterman opens up about surviving his stroke, the backlash he's taken from both the left and the right, and why he refuses to perform partisan outrage just to earn applause. He talks about how his support for Israel after October 7 fractured relationships within his own party, why Democrats continue losing working-class voters, and what many on the left still fail to understand about Trump's appeal. From Trump's expanding and unpopular war in Iran, to the threat of new wars in Cuba and beyond, Ro joins host Paul Rieckhoff to lay out how Congress can actually stop a runaway commander in chief—using the War Powers Act, the power of the purse, and even impeachment. They dig into the stakes for troops on the ground, the real cost of war for a new generation of veterans, and why both parties are failing to meet the moment as gas prices spike, markets wobble, and the forever‑war machine spins up again. Then, Rieckhoff and Khanna go deep on the Epstein files and the rare left‑right coalition that is finally forcing accountability for the “Epstein class”—from billionaires and power brokers to public officials who have escaped justice for decades. They talk ICE overreach, starving kids in Cuba under a fuel blockade, the Creator's Bill of Rights for independent media, and whether Ro Khanna and Tom Massie should leave their parties and run as independents. The push to resolve the Department of Homeland Security shutdown through reconciliation is running into a hard reality in the Senate. What looks like a procedural workaround is, in practice, a much narrower path than many Republicans are publicly suggesting. At first glance, the strategy sounds clean. Fund most of DHS through a bipartisan deal, then use reconciliation to push through the rest, specifically ICE funding and pieces of the SAVE Act. No 60-vote threshold. No Democratic buy-in required. Problem solved. But the deeper I look at it, the less I think that path actually works.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. The issue is the Byrd Rule, which is the guardrail on reconciliation. If it is not directly tied to the budget, meaning spending or revenue, it does not survive. And while ICE funding clearly qualifies, voter ID requirements and proof of citizenship mandates do not neatly fit into that category. That is why there is so little real enthusiasm behind the scenes for this plan. Publicly, it sounds like leverage. Privately, it looks like a stretch. From Trump's perspective, the calculation is straightforward. He wants the SAVE Act, and he wants it tied to reopening DHS. That is the leverage. If Republicans split the two, they lose their biggest bargaining chip. That is why he initially rejected the idea of funding DHS first and handling ICE later. It weakens the negotiating position and turns a must-pass moment into a maybe-pass later. But the pressure is building. TSA lines are growing. The shutdown is visible. And some Republicans want to move on, not because they think they are losing politically, but because this fight is burning time they need for other priorities.A Theoretical WorkaroundThere is, at least in theory, a way to thread this needle. If Republicans paired voter ID requirements with federal funding to provide free identification and proof of citizenship, you could argue that the policy has a direct budgetary impact. That would be the hook to survive reconciliation under the Byrd Rule.It would also undercut one of the central Democratic arguments, that voter ID laws function as a poll tax. If the IDs are free, that argument becomes harder to sustain. But even then, this is not a slam dunk. The Senate parliamentarian has wide discretion, and reconciliation rules have been stretched before, but not without limits. So where does that leave things? In my view, reconciliation is less of a solution and more of a talking point right now. It gives Republicans a way to signal that they have a plan to get everything they want. But the actual mechanics of the Senate make that plan far more difficult to execute than it sounds.Which means we are likely headed back to the same place most shutdown fights end: a negotiated deal that neither side fully likes, followed by both sides claiming victory.Because for all the talk of procedural maneuvers and legislative strategy, the simplest truth still applies. At some point, the government has to reopen.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:02:00 - DHS, SAVE Act, and Reconciliation00:14:05 - Oklahoma Senate Seat00:15:50 - Iran War Negotiations00:23:53 - Georgia's Daylight Saving Time Bill00:26:10 - Interview with Juliegrace Brufke01:01:14 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. From Trump's bizarre Truth Social posts declaring Iran the “loser of the Middle East” to his cinematic demand for “unconditional surrender,” the pair unpack why Trump seems to be narrating the war as if he's the hero in his own movie rather than a commander in chief navigating a global crisis. They also reveal the frantic reassurance Trump is reportedly seeking from journalists, the fear and aggression driving his language, and why allies around the world are struggling to interpret what any of it actually means. Meanwhile, chaos spreads closer to home: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is abruptly fired after a staggering $200 million self-promotional ad campaign blows up in her face, raising questions about who might be the next domino in Trump's cabinet. Now, as host of the Independent Americans podcast, he's mobilizing a different kind of army—independent veterans ready to run for office and reject both major parties. In this wide-ranging conversation, Chuck and Paul explore why over 50% of veterans identify as political independents, how Pete Hegseth is transforming military culture in dangerous ways, and why the Pentagon was Trump's first strategic target for a reason. They discuss the troubling parallels between ICE recruitment tactics and military messaging, the chilling effect on dissent among military retirees, and why veterans like Mark Kelly are uniquely positioned to push back. Paul breaks down his Independent Veterans of America initiative, which is recruiting 100 candidates this fall—including potential Senate runs in Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, and South Dakota. He argues that one independent veteran senator could become the most powerful member of the Senate, and explains why breaking the two-party stranglehold starts with veterans who already wore camouflage instead of red or blue. They also dig into the Vietnam generation's political scars, why no Vietnam veteran ever became president, and how the all-volunteer military has disconnected most Americans from the human cost of war. Drawing on King's own words, Brad frames civil rights not as radical demands, but as a fight for what the United States has always claimed to promise: equality under the law, due process, and freedom regardless of race, religion, immigration status, or identity. Brad then introduces the real engine behind this moment: postliberalism. Joined by theologian and political theorist Dr. David Congdon, the episode unpacks how postliberal movements—rooted in both Christian theology and Silicon Valley technocracy—reject liberal democracy, individual rights, and pluralism in favor of hierarchy, authoritarian power, and state-enforced moral order. From JD Vance to Catholic integralists to tech elites dreaming of CEO-rule, these movements converge in their hostility to democracy and civil rights. This conversation situates Trump's second term as the first sustained experiment in federal postliberal rule, explaining how backlash to the Civil Rights Movement itself helped fuel today's authoritarian turn—and why understanding postliberalism is essential to grasping what is happening to American democracy right now. Michael Wolff joins Joanna Coles to trace the unsettling origins of Donald Trump's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, long before public scandal or denial. Wolff begins with their bond in the late-1980s New York, where Trump was chasing Manhattan legitimacy and Epstein was emerging as a fixer fluent in money, women, and leverage. From Trump introducing Epstein as “my associate—Jeffy,” a pattern forms of shared ambition, cruelty, and secrecy. Wolff links those early dynamics to Trump's financial near-collapse in the 1990s and Epstein's claim that he helped Trump survive bankruptcy while keeping his tax returns hidden. If Epstein helped shape Trump's instincts before power, what does that say about the secrets that still follow him now? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
