Neste episódio histórico do Endörfina conversei com os pais do triathlon brasileiro. Conheça aqui o casal que foi responsável por descobrir o então novíssimo esporte do triathlon (3 anos de existência) em uma conversa durante uma viagem que o casal fez a Honolulu em 1981, para cobrir a Maratona daquela cidade. Felizmente o espírito empreendedor do jornalista carioca José Inácio Werneck e sua esposa, a inglesa Dawn Webb, os fez ter a idéia de trazer o novo esporte para o Rio de Janeiro. Nascia então o triathlon brasileiro! A primeira edição, chamada informalmente de Corrida Alegre, aconteceu em fevereiro de 1982. Por exigência da Escola de Educação Física do Exército, porém, o ciclismo seria a última modalidade desta primeira prova. Dos quase mil inscritos, cerca de 320 pessoas optaram por participar das três modalidades do evento que começou com 500 metros de natação as 6h45 na Urca. Depois os participantes correram 8km pela praia de Botafogo e pedalaram do Urca até o centro da cidade passando pelo aterro. O primeiro a sair da água foi o falecido nadador olímpico (posteriormente foi cantor e ator Global) Rômulo Arantes (patrocinado para este evento pela Caloi!), seguido de perto por Carlos Roberto Dolabella e Marco Ripper (ambos da equipe HASPA). O caráter da prova foi recreativo (daí o nome) e houve mais de uma largada para quem não queria nadar. Uma matéria de jornal da época relata a participação de uma jovem de 10 anos (Alexandra Viana) e a presença da nadadora, também olímpica, Maria Lenk como espectadora. O "pódio" masculino: Dolabella, Ripper e Rômulo. Um ano depois, em 1983, já na ordem tradicional, Werneck organizou o triathlon Café do Brasil, também no Rio de Janeiro, que contou com a participação de estrangeiros convidados e teve a vitória de Roger de Moraes.
