Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson is a good start, but for the franchise that once drafted Hurts behind Carson Wentz and has paid the likes of Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and Gardner Minshew, is it possible Howie Roseman will fire up the QB Factory once again? And if so, is Jalen Milroe the perfect option to bide his time behind Hurts? Plus, what do Zach Berman and Bo Wulf think about the likes of Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders?

Send us a textOn a recent episode of a podcast, guest Amarillo Valle (pronounced Vi-yah) said, "We say, happiness is an inside job. Well, peace is an inside job, too!" His statement shook me. It woke me up from some deep slumber, a type of recurring dream where I kept putting others in charge of my experience, my joy, my happiness, my peace. Why did I give away my power? When did it happen? And how do I endeavor to take back the reins? I think Season Five of Curious Cat is that journey. Finding the bridge between what culture had said are two opposite forces, then harvesting the magic there. This week's exploration of the bridge is via music. A melody can move me to tears. Singing snaps me out of a funk. Humming makes my brain work better. Music is the way the dead reach out to me most often, maybe because it's the channel I'm open to receiving information on best.My first hint to the power of music was as a young mother. Once a week, I ventured out of the house to the local hospital and joined the moms class with my newborn. There were babies of many ages there, including some in the six to nine month range. I learned from the first class by observing, that age could get antsy, squirmy and the parent would stand up, hold the baby with two arms out front, and with the baby's back to them, the parent would rock forward and backward on their heels. That worked to calm the antsy babies. But if one baby began to cry, soon out of empathy, all the babies would join in. That's when we were instructed to sing, Twinkle, Twinkle, which the entire class did. And within seconds, all the babies quieted, eyes watching, calm. It was pure magic. Some of my most potent memories of my daughters as babies involved music, playing songs on a speaker or radio and dancing with them in my arms. I'm smiling ear to ear as I share this. Is there a song that makes you feel calm? Sad? Brings up a funny memory? Or annoys the heck out of you?Mine is Twelve Days of Christmas. If I'm preparing a meal for the family and that song comes on? Oh my gosh. It sends my anxiety through the roof. Music can help us fall asleep, a certain song can give us more energy than a cup of coffee,  enough to stay alert behind the wheel on a long drive, and impacts how we heal, recover, learn and rest. I've pulled the latest research from the internet and can't wait to share. Let's get into it.Show Sources & What to Watch/Listen/Read NEXTSound Heals, the movie, Thomas Durant (on Amazon for rental)The Healing Power of Sound as Meditation, Psychology TodayHave you tried the GoodPods app yet? How to Do This Practice: Find a Comfortable Space: Choose a place where you feel comfortable moving and making noise. You can do this practice standing or seated, whatever feels best for you. Start with a Basic Clap: Clap your hands together lightly, palm to palm. Keep the pressure soft so it doesn't hurt. Try a few claps, following a steady rhythm. Add Chest Percussion: After each clap, tap your sternum lightly with your right hand, then with your left hand. Repeat this rhythm several times. Incorporate Leg Taps: Extend the pattern by adding taps on your thighs. Repeat the Full Pattern: Put it all together in a continuous loop— clap, chest (right, left), legs (right, left). Maintain the rhythm and repeat without pauses. Focus on the sensation of movement and sound as a mindful practice. This practice uses the yogic breathing technique bhramari breath - also known as 'black bee breath', it is named after the Hindu goddess of bees. The practice involves a humming on the outbreath to draw the attention inwards, as the vibration of the hum soothes the nervous system and quiets a busy mind. Humming extends the exhalation, creating vibration in the upper torso and throat. The ‘mmm' sound created vibrates into the cerebral cortex, said to nourish the pituitary gland for hormonal and nervous system regulation, as well as deactivating the fight-or-flight response (via the vagus nerve), and stimulating production of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which regulates our mood and sleep cycles. It has also shown to support communication through the heart-brain axis. Humming can be brought in any time within a physical or meditative practice as a focus on inner vibration (spanda) particularly in the silence that follows.

Bill Adams, chief economist for Comerica Bank, says his forecast for 2025 now includes fewer rate cuts, slightly higher inflation, and increased fiscal support for the economy, but those conditions are signs of an an economy "that's humming along, continuing to grow, it's not a recession," and he says the risk of a recession in the next year or two is now "back to its historical normal." Charles Rotblut, editor at AAII Journal — the keeper of the American Association of Individual Investors' sentiment survey — discusses how bullish sentiment was on the rise and bearish sentiment on the decline in the immediate aftermath of the election, and that the impact could last for more than the few big-volume trading days the market posted last week. David Trainer, founder and president at New Constructs, revisits Peloton, one of the first "zombie stocks" the company started labeling back in 2022, discussing why the company's recent run — up about 150 percent in the last three months — is not going to save it from the ultimate financial death its numbers say it must suffer. Plus, Alison Hadley discusses a survey on the impact of social media on fashion purchases, which found that social media — and specifically "outfit of the day" posts — inspired the average American to make roughly $250 in purchases over the last six months.

Stella & Sasha welcome former public defender and education advocate, Maud Maron to the show for a fascinating conversation examining the intersection of education and politics. Maud reflects on the troubling shifts within schools, where merit and academic standards are being overshadowed by ideological pressures. In this episode, Maud discusses the evolving landscape of education, where traditional academic standards are increasingly being influenced or overshadowed by ideological pressures from social and political agendas. She highlights the impact of identity politics, gender ideology, and equity measures on core educational values. Drawing from her personal experiences from pushing for enhanced math standards, to becoming embroiled in a heated debate over gender guidelines in New York City's public schools leading to her removal from the school board, to her later subsequent return, Maud recounts the tactics used to silence her dissent. Despite her efforts to initiate a respectful dialogue on the impact of gender policies on female athletes, Maud faced significant backlash, raising broader concerns about free speech and the pressures of ideological conformity within educational and public forums. This episode offers invaluable insights for parents, educators, political followers, free speech advocates, and those curious about how the politicization of education and ideological pressures are diluting the emphasis on academic performance, sparking concerns about the long-term impact on students' education and society at large. For links and resources relevant to this episode, access the full show notes at  https://www.widerlenspod.com/p/episode-184 Buy Our Book – When Kids Say They're Trans: A Guide for Thoughtful Parents at https://whenkidssaytheyretrans.com/   Join Our Listener Community to Access Exclusive Content at https://www.widerlenspod.com/   Support the Show at https://www.widerlenspod.com/p/support-the-show   Join the conversation on YouTube at www.youtube.com/@widerlenspod  For more information about Sasha's & Stella's parent coaching membership groups, visit:Sasha Ayad: https://sashaayad.com/parenting-coaching   Stella O'Malley: http://www.stellaomalley.com/parent-coaching  To learn more about our sponsors, visit:Therapy First at https://www.therapyfirst.org/  Genspect at https://genspect.org/  This is a public episode. But it's important to know how to swim if you're going to be around water! In this episode, Upper Valley Aquatic Center Swim School Director Kana Wyman gives us swimming tips, like how to get comfortable putting our heads in the water, how to float and more.Download our learning guides: PDF | Google Slides | TranscriptA few tips for getting started: If you don't live near a pool or body of water, you can learn some primary skills even in a bathtub or using a bucket.  Get used to putting your face in the water by using a bucket or big bowl. Keep your mouth closed and blow air through your nose. Humming can help make sure you're breathing out. When floating, think about a string pulling your belly button up to the sky. It's easier to float if you spread your body out, rather than curling into a ball. You may need to swirl your arms or legs to keep your whole body on top of the water. Some people have a harder time floating than others, due to body mass differences. So if it feels hard, it's not your fault! Check with community swimming pools to see if they offer free lessons. Many pools, gyms or swim schools will offer lessons for kids and adults that are free or subsidized, at least occasionally, to make sure everyone has the opportunity to learn lifesaving swimming skills.
