After EL TOPO became a cult sensation in New York City and beyond, the doors were open for Alejandro Jodorowsky to begin work on his next film. The resulting film — largely funded by John Lennon and Yoko Ono! — is one of the director's seminal works, a metaphysical journey through the Tarot and the other esoteric practices that Jodorowsky surrounded himself with. It's also, in keeping with tradition, really, really weird. And like its predecessor, THE HOLY MOUNTAIN proved to be, and continues to be, a highly controversial work. In this episode, we'll trace the film's origins through production and release, and discuss its divisive legacy 50 years after its original run. Theme Song: "There's Still a Little Bit of Time, If We Hurry and I Mean Hurry" by Slasher Film Festival Strategy. This episode was written, produced and edited by Gary Horne, Justin Bishop, and Todd A. Davis.

I first saw Mikey Yates work in our 2020 exhibition Drowned Neon Rose and I've been following him ever since. Mikey Yates is Kansas City based painter born in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany. He grew up drawing the various characters that colored his life: Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, Ryu from Street Fighter and Gary Payton from the Sonics. Yates continues this practice today, but instead of strictly rendering fictional characters and sports superstars he paints family members and friends, vivid memoirs of his past, and present day situations. Yates received his BFA from Missouri State University and his MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. In this episode, Mikey and I talk about how he got involved in the arts, his practice and what's influenced him throughout his professional art career. Next stop, Lothering! When we leave Flemeth's hut with 10% of a plan, we're fairly certain it's two inexperienced Grey Wardens and a grumpy witch against the blight, but with one stop we double our party with a good boy, a formerly cloistered sister of the chantry, and a Qunari murderer. All the makings of a family! We also learn that Loghain is talking shit about the Wardens and that Arl Eamon is fatally ill. Special thanks to Redd Spinks for our new amazing logo as well as to Radek Wade and Echoes of Oblivion for the song World of Thedas, which we use as our theme music. Last week Queensland put forward a proposal to relax the states drug laws by expanding the Police Drug Diversion Program. The program would protect drug offenders found with less than 50 grams of all drugs from being prosecuted, and instead push them into professional help. In this episode of The Quicky, we look at whether drugs should be looked at as a health issue instead of a criminal one and how relaxing the rules could lead to a healthier community. The Power Trio is back in full force to capture all the magic of a massive 1-0 win at Goodison that sends Leeds and our American brethren into the relegation zone and Everton to safety (at least for now). Alex, James, and Ryan are here to get into the lineups, tactics, the ebbs, the flows, and the massive goal by 60 Grand Seamus Coleman to send the Goodison crowd into uproar. While not the prettiest match, there was a lot to talk about: -An unchanged but much maligned backline -The key matchup of Coleman (and Iwobi) vs. Gnonto -The performance of Neal Maupay (aka the Moped) -How Everton actually created chances in the final third (and why they were so poor at converting them) We've got lots of listener comments, interesting stats, and some classic AJR interplay to make this one of our most enjoyable episodes in some time. The moment Joe Biden was elected, I had very little expectations that he'd do much about the issues of police violence and mass incarceration. He was already damn near 80 years old and hadn't done much of anything good about those issues his entire life. But when he appointed Merrick Garland, a bland, moderate, conservative white man who has always lacked the courage for bold moves on police violence and mass incarceration, it was clear that those things were not true priorities for Joe Biden Biden. And here we are, in year 3 of their administration, and next to nothing has been done. A few cases have been prosecuted here and there, but the 2 cases the DOJ most famously filed charges for, of the murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, had literally already been successfully prosecuted in Minnesota and Georgia. I've formally submitted lists of HUNDREDS of cases from the 1950s until today and this DOJ continues to ignore them all. Listen, it's not that I'm surprised, but I am frustrated and disappointed that we continue to get damn near the same shit on issues of police violence no matter who we elect. Let me unpack and explain it.
