Andrew Graham-Dixon's new book, Vermeer: A Life Lost and Found, rests on the conviction that you cannot understand what's in a painting without knowing what its maker was thinking about. In Vermeer's case, that context includes a forgotten liberal sect — the Remonstrants and Collegiants, Christians without a church who believed peace would come through reading and toleration rather than a returning Messiah. Recover that world and a woman alone in a sunlit room is a radical image in a Europe where half of Germany had just died in war. If he's right, the label beside every Vermeer in every museum will one day have to change. Tyler and Andrew discuss whether it was inevitable we'd rediscover Vermeer, how that vanishingly rare sect left its fingerprints all over his life, why the Met has misread its own Allegory of the Catholic Faith, whether Vermeer painted for money or pointedly refused to, where the Gardner's stolen Concert might be, why Dutch music never blossomed as much as Dutch painting did, how the Church of England rivaled the Cultural Revolution in wiping out British art, whether you can still spot an English painting on sight, the love that saturates late Rembrandt and the mystery of his soaring print prices, the nail on the wall that proves two Vermeer paintings are a pair, why the French are to blame for George Stubbs lack of status, whether we can still love Malevich, why Andrews calls recent Richter "almost like printing money," why female artists and antique textiles remain absurdly cheap, why nobody builds beautiful neighborhoods any longer, and much more. Spurs need a left winger — and Enya Collins, live from Vancouver, walks The Analyst through the five names every fan is arguing about with Wyscout and Hudl data doing the heavy lifting. Savinho as the low-block breaker and the case for two dribblers with Kudus on the opposite flank. Antoine Nusa as the profile-similar alternative — with the medical history and the Bundesliga-to-Premier-League step-up that changes the risk profile. Rafael Leao as the on-form game-breaker with the fallouts baggage — plus a considered read from Enya's diehard Milan-fan friend that reframes the "attitude" question. Cody Gakpo as the completely different inside-winger profile that might not actually fit De Zerbi's high-and-wide starter. And the twist: the current, only-fit left winger already in the squad. Enya's data-led defence of Matisse Tell — the crossing, the shot data, the confidence issue — is the pivot the episode earns. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Continuing on with Bear Grease's Civil War Summer series, Clay Newcomb travels to the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library in Starkville, Mississippi, to uncover the story of the Union general who may be the most misunderstood figure of the war. Alongside Grant historian Dr. Louis Gallo, Clay traces Grant's unlikely journey from a quiet Ohio farm boy and gifted horseman to a failed farmer, struggling businessman, and former army officer battling personal struggles. The conversation explores Grant's complicated relationship with slavery, his marriage into a slaveholding Missouri family, his years of financial hardship, and the character traits that would eventually make him Lincoln's indispensable commander. Along the way, Clay discusses the Lost Cause ideology, the myths that shaped Grant's reputation, and the remarkable transformation of a man who went from selling firewood on the streets to leading the Union Army and becoming President of the United States. Watch On Youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=dlnjBMS6Jto&feature=youtu.be Daniel Valverde (@DanielValv3rd3) is a Peruvian entrepreneur who calls himself “the most interesting Peruvian in the world.” After building a successful cleaning company that now operates under his team in Peru, he stepped away from the day-to-day business to pursue a long-held passion: reviving Peruvian winemaking. In this episode, Daniel shares his journey from entrepreneurship to launching Valtierro, his inaugural 2025 wine vintage, along with the lessons he's learned building businesses, traveling the world, and creating a brand rooted in Peru's history. While Peru is already celebrated globally for its cuisine, including Central in Lima being named the World's Best Restaurant, few people realize the country has been producing wine for nearly 500 years. Home to some of the oldest vineyards in the Americas, Peru's winemaking tradition predates many of today's famous New World wine regions. Daniel explains why he believes Peru is on the verge of becoming the next great wine destination, how grapes like Negra Criolla are helping revive this forgotten heritage, and why Valtierro aims to be at the forefront of Peru's next chapter in fine wine. In an industry constantly promoting the newest device or technology, why has microneedling remained a cornerstone of skin rejuvenation? In this episode of Plastic Surgery Uncensored, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rady Rahban is joined by aesthetic nurse Charlene for part four of their five-part series examining today's most popular nonsurgical aesthetic treatments.Together, they explore the science behind microneedling, how controlled collagen stimulation can improve skin texture, tone, fine lines, acne scars, and overall skin quality, and why this relatively simple treatment continues to earn the confidence of experienced providers despite the constant introduction of newer technologies.Dr. Rahban and Charlene also discuss the differences between microneedling devices, why the quality of the equipment and technique matter, the role of PRP, PRF, hyaluronic acid, and other skin boosters, what to expect during recovery, and the importance of proper post-treatment care to maximize both safety and results. This episode isn't about chasing the latest trend or claiming that one treatment can solve every skin concern. I've worked with high-achieving women for over two decades. I think I attract high-achieving women because this is an attribute I deeply relate to - sometimes to my own detriment. One of the things I've noticed my clients and I can struggle with is FUN. High achievers tend to take things seriously. Like, very seriously. We are intense and motivated to make everything great, if not perfect. This drive can suck the life right out of what otherwise might have been a footloose and fancy-free experience. Rather than embracing fun as a birthright, high-achieving women in leadership have a tendency to treat fun only as a reward - which must be earned after a remarkable and noteworthy win. It's as if somewhere along the way, we convinced ourselves that fun belongs to others but not to us. But here's what I've learned: when you connect fun only to rewards and achievement, you aren't just flirting with leadership burnout; you're leaving one of the most underrated leadership skills on the table. Fun isn't a reward or a distraction from the work of female leadership — it's an essential emotional intelligence practice that sharpens decision-making, deepens connection, and builds sustainable leadership. In this episode, I break down the essential elements that make something truly fun (hint: it's not just scheduling a happy hour), why high-achieving women are particularly prone to forgetting how to access it, and why reframing fun as a leadership strategy — not self-care, not a luxury, not an afterthought — changes everything. We will also walk through a simple 5-step process for reconnecting to your version of fun — not the Instagram version, not what your team thinks sounds good, but the kind of fun and joy that actually replenishes you. Because the most powerful leadership development tool often isn't another productivity system or another personal development book - it's remembering how to be fully alive and in your joy while you lead.
