Positioning is quietly becoming the skill that separates people who stand out in UX and product from people who get left behind, especially now that AI can build almost anything in seconds. In this episode, Sarah makes the case for why the ability to build fast is no longer the advantage it used to be, and why knowing what's worth building, and framing it well, matters more than ever.Sarah traces this back to a belief she used to hold herself, that good work speaks for itself. It doesn't. She shares how she avoided a required public speaking class in college, only to realize later that the real skill was never about sounding polished or the delivery. It was about the thinking that happens before you say a single word, or type a single sentence, or design a single sales page. She also shares a recent story from her own business, where a team she hired to build an AI tool ignored the detailed context she gave them and rushed straight into building, producing a prototype that missed the mark entirely. She ended up building it herself, faster, because she had the clarity they skipped in the process. That story becomes the jumping off point for two ideas Sarah argues will define who stands out in UX and product going forward, knowing what's worth building, and framing the work so people actually say yes to it.If you've ever felt invisible in a meeting, passed over for a promotion, or like your UX job search ideas keep getting ignored, this episode reframes that feeling as a positioning problem rather than a skills problem, and gives a concrete way to start fixing it this week.Topics Discussed✅ Why "good work speaks for itself" is a myth that's quietly keeping talented people invisible✅ The real reason some ideas get funded, approved, or hired for in UX, and it's rarely because they were the best idea✅ A story about hiring a team to build an AI tool, and what happened when they skipped the thinking and rushed straight to building✅ Why knowing what's worth building is about to matter more than how fast you can build it✅ A real example of a stakeholder update that got buried, and the exact rewrite that would have gotten a faster yes✅ Why leading with the "so what" instead of the "what" changes how quickly people respond to your ideas✅ How the same positioning skill applies just as much to your UX job search, your portfolio, and a promotion conversation as it does to a pitch✅ A simple challenge to try this week on your next email, Slack message, or updateLinks & Resources

Nobody teaches you how to feel anxious. They teach you how to make it stop. And that's the problem — because most of us aren't actually struggling with anxiety. We're struggling with our resistance to it. This isn't another anxiety toolkit. I've done the breathing episodes, and all of that still stands. These are the few things I actually use on myself and with my coaching clients that I rarely hear anyone talk about. Inside this episode: Why the answer isn't more positivity — and why your brain knows when you're lying to it. Why your body on a treadmill and your body mid-spiral are doing exactly the same thing, and why you'll happily pay a gym for one and panic about the other. The three words I use instead of arguing with my brain's predictions. And the question that tells you instantly whether you're in a real emergency or just watching a very creative film your brain wrote about your future. Anxiety doesn't need to be fixed. It needs to be felt. Get better at that, and you get better at everything downstream of it. Also in this episode: the launch of the Julie Fitzsimons Library and History Scholarship — $1,500 towards study for a young person in Sydney's Bayside Council area, created in honour of my beautiful mum and the library she walked into at 18 and never really left. Clark County's population growth is slowing dramatically; a new UNLV forecast projects the county won't hit 3 million residents until 2055, a full decade later than previously predicted. So what does that mean for Las Vegas' future? Then, Nevada Democrats lost their bid to hold the first presidential primary in 2028, narrowly falling to South Carolina in a DNC committee vote, and the implications are significant. Finally, did you know there are beavers living in Las Vegas? The Clark County Wetlands Park is one of the valley's most underrated outdoor spaces, and it turns out those beavers are doing some pretty important work for the entire Colorado River watershed. The media must be skeptical of Lane Kiffin's ability to make Year 1 a smashing success at LSU. Also, Auburn is flying under the radar as a sleeper team. That's our reaction here at "SEC Football Unfiltered" to the conference's predicted order of finish that came out last week. LSU ranked No. 5 in the pecking order, and Auburn was No. 12. On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams debate the reasons why the media poll is so hesitant toward LSU, and they make the case for Auburn being underrated, too. They also offer a pair of overrated teams. Toppmeyer and Adams disagree on which team is the SEC's frontrunner. Is it Georgia or Texas? Toppmeyer also asks Adams an interesting question: If the Big Ten has three national championship contenders (Ohio State, Indiana and Oregon), does the SEC also have three?

Andrew Graham-Dixon's new book, Vermeer: A Life Lost and Found, rests on the conviction that you cannot understand what's in a painting without knowing what its maker was thinking about. In Vermeer's case, that context includes a forgotten liberal sect — the Remonstrants and Collegiants, Christians without a church who believed peace would come through reading and toleration rather than a returning Messiah. Recover that world and a woman alone in a sunlit room is a radical image in a Europe where half of Germany had just died in war. If he's right, the label beside every Vermeer in every museum will one day have to change. Tyler and Andrew discuss whether it was inevitable we'd rediscover Vermeer, how that vanishingly rare sect left its fingerprints all over his life, why the Met has misread its own Allegory of the Catholic Faith, whether Vermeer painted for money or pointedly refused to, where the Gardner's stolen Concert might be, why Dutch music never blossomed as much as Dutch painting did, how the Church of England rivaled the Cultural Revolution in wiping out British art, whether you can still spot an English painting on sight, the love that saturates late Rembrandt and the mystery of his soaring print prices, the nail on the wall that proves two Vermeer paintings are a pair, why the French are to blame for George Stubbs lack of status, whether we can still love Malevich, why Andrews calls recent Richter "almost like printing money," why female artists and antique textiles remain absurdly cheap, why nobody builds beautiful neighborhoods any longer, and much more. On the 78th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Hall Of Famer & SIOL favorite, Murph, review the legendary 1976 classic rock self-titled debut by "Boston." Boston is the creation of MIT alumni and musical genius, guitarist Tom Scholz. Underrated singer Brad Delp was on vocals, Sib Hashian on drums, Barry Goudreau also on guitars and Fran Sheehan on bass. Most of the music was created and performed by Tom Scholz who created a one of a kind studio in his basement in Watertown, Massachusetts, which was revolutionary. The album went on to become the highest selling debut album at that time. It was produced by Tom Scholz and John Boylan. It made it to #3 on the US Billboard charts and eventually went 17 times platinum. The album ushered in classic arena rock. The guitars, vocals and lyrics are heard all over classic rock radio, especially their legendary song, "More Than A Feeling." This was the Patreon pick. So tune in to find out why there's talk of gangs & chainsaws, Level 42, and group photos! AI agents can't transform an org they can't see. Albert Strasheim, CTO at Rippling, joins Andrew Zigler to explain why agentic transformation starts with the employee graph, the system of record for who does what. He shares how Rippling assembles teams and primitives across silos, why evals are the new unit test, and how compensating controls keep AI output from turning into slop. When agents do the work, you still have to know who, or what, shipped it. LinearB attributes the work, whether it came from humans, AI assistants, or autonomous agents.Register today: The Engineering Productivity Gap live workshop on July 30Follow the show:Subscribe to our Substack Follow us on LinkedInSubscribe to our YouTube ChannelLeave us a ReviewFollow the hosts:Follow AndrewFollow BenFollow DanFollow today's guest:Rippling: Explore the workforce management platform at rippling.com Introducing Rippling Data Cloud: AI-powered BI that understands your workforceFollow Albert: LinkedIn OFFERSStart Free Trial: Get started with LinearB's AI productivity platform for free.Book a Demo: Learn how you can ship faster, improve DevEx, and lead with confidence in the AI era.LEARN ABOUT LINEARBAI Code Reviews: Automate reviews to catch bugs, security risks, and performance issues before they hit production.AI & Productivity Insights: Go beyond DORA with AI-powered recommendations and dashboards to measure and improve performance.AI-Powered Workflow Automations: Use AI-generated PR descriptions, smart routing, and other automations to reduce developer toil.MCP Server: Interact with your engineering data using natural language to build custom reports and get answers on the fly.

Continuing on with Bear Grease's Civil War Summer series, Clay Newcomb travels to the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library in Starkville, Mississippi, to uncover the story of the Union general who may be the most misunderstood figure of the war. Alongside Grant historian Dr. Louis Gallo, Clay traces Grant's unlikely journey from a quiet Ohio farm boy and gifted horseman to a failed farmer, struggling businessman, and former army officer battling personal struggles. The conversation explores Grant's complicated relationship with slavery, his marriage into a slaveholding Missouri family, his years of financial hardship, and the character traits that would eventually make him Lincoln's indispensable commander. Along the way, Clay discusses the Lost Cause ideology, the myths that shaped Grant's reputation, and the remarkable transformation of a man who went from selling firewood on the streets to leading the Union Army and becoming President of the United States.
