Jace sits down with writer Mark Waid to talk DC Comics at SDCC 2025. Mark is writing a ton of books for DC currently, too many to cover in their brief chat. The guys do touch on Justice League Unlimited and how it ties into DC KO. Plus Mark reveals just what Mister Terrific and the time-displaced "shadow: heroes will be up to during the event. When it comes to story & collaboration, Batman & Robin Year One is a dream project for Chris Samnee and Mark talks about the importance of bringing emotion to that story. Mark also discusses his love of working in different time periods and having a mix of projects that tie in closely to the overall universe but also having books that stand on their own, such as what he is building in Action Comics as we see Clark and the Kents learn what it means to be Superboy and grow into Superman. Finally the guys finish up talking about Mark's return to The Flash with Christopher Cantwell and how Impulse is living up to his name. There's a ton packed inot this chat so don't miss it.
Cal and Liam are picking things up where they last left Justice League Unlimited just a few days after the anniversary of the series' debut, with the episode "Dead Reckoning" which features the Boston Brand Deadman character who is sent on a mission to balance the scales of karma in order to earn his way to the afterlife. The hosts chat about the plot's ridiculous and very comic book-y twist, as well as the visuals that are directly related to said twist. They also discuss the music's place in providing some emotional death scenes, and a superb voice cast to boot! Mark Waid is back with the Bandits for his fourth solo appearance, as we dive into his latest projects and thoughts on the current state of Superman. First we jump into James Gunn's recently released Superman film and get Mark's takes, specifically on the approach to Jor-El and Lara's portrayal and whether the movie successfully captures the optimism that defines the character. The core of the conversation centers around Mark's "dream project," New History of the DC Universe, and the challenges of weaving 90 years of DC continuity into one cohesive timeline. Mark also talks about his current work on Action Comics, where he's diving into Clark Kent's teenage years with artist Skylar Patridge. Finally, we delve into his ongoing Batman/Superman: World's Finest series, revealing his approach to keeping the iconic partnership fresh and what makes this collaboration stand out from previous team-ups. New History of the DC Universe #2 hits stores this Wednesday, July 23. And the Mark Waid adventures continue in Action Comics, World's Finest, Batman & Robin: Year One, Justice League Unlimited, and the upcoming crossover event DC K.O.! The Speakers of Geek return to their reading piles to discuss various current titles such as Krypto's first appearance in Adventure Comics 210 facsimile, Namor by Aaron, Davidson, Lins and company, Fire & Ice and Justice League Unlimited, the works of Taiyo Matsumoto, early Black Label titles, the New History of the DC Universe and others. We also cover the new first issue of Captain America by Zdarsky, Schiti and company and “Birthday” from Action Comics 1087 by Waid, Patridge and company. And we manage to throw in comic talk on DC's use of legacy characters, Marvel's sliding timescale and more! (1:41:00)
Liam and Cal return from last week's interview with Robin to celebrate the Man of Steel's return to the Big Screen with a #SuperFantasMonth celebration and a look back at Superman's first appearance in the television movie, later split into three parts for syndicated broadcast, known as "The Last Son of Krypton." The Good Brothers first reviewed this episode over seven years ago, so they're taking a look back and giving a thorough once over of each of the parts of this iconic launch of the DC Animated Universe with the pilot of Superman The Animated Series. Amongst the topics discussed are the slight departures and tweaks to the origin story from anything that came before this show, the eerily relevant concerns from Jor-El about the elevation and cultural reliance on Artificial Intelligence and the surveillance state's use of the technology. Plus how the show's mandate to look different from previous Superman shows and media and to set itself apart from Batman The Animated Series is showcased in the very first episode. Plus a review of the music composition from Lolita Ritmanis that returns for an equally tragic sequence in Justice League Unlimited, name checks to 90s cartoon ReBoot and why Corey Burton remains the GOAT. A brand-new Superman movie is almost here, but June 2025's comics gave us plenty to get excited about. In this month's episode, Vactor is joined by SuperFrank and Tim Tangent from the @BeerwithGeeks podcast to break down the latest Superman titles — including a bizarre new gold form in Superman Unlimited #2, the heartfelt Mark Waid story in Action Comics #1087, and a surprise return for Electric Blue Superman in Justice League Unlimited #8.We also debate whether scroll comics like Marvel Infinity and DC Go are the future—or just a gimmick.

And so the Cadmus arc comes to an end... but is it with a bang or a whimper? It's certainly an undeniably odd episode, and your mileage may vary. One thing I'll say for this one: it lets us know that Bruce Wayne leaves his DNA all over town. Before that we have some news and a letter that claims Derek sounds like Robert Downey Jr. What do you think about that? Let us know.Next week: the first three episodes of Ironheart. See you then!

The finale of the Cadmus Saga is upon us as the original seven of the Justice League take on the combined Luthor/Brainiac creature. Will they be able to save the world? Will they remember they have superpowers in time? This is the episode that almost has the guts to kill off The Flash. Before that: your hosts did a little protesting this weekend. Plus: I get cranky about film journalists, Derek loves a H.E.R.B.I.E ad and James Gunn says stuff. And your questions get answered! If you don't care about that stuff skip to 43:47!Next week: our last Justice League Unlimited episode for now, as we watch the Epilogue! After that it's Ironheart! Thanks for listening.

Jeez, Superman's a real jerk in these episodes, and his behavior is not getting any better. Picking up from where last week left off, this ep sees the Justice League Watchtower shooting a huge fusion beam at... an American city? Seems bad, even if J'onn J'onnz insists "It wasn't me."Before that we go long, and I mean long, on Cobra Kai. Again. I'm almost done binging the show so I promise this won't go on forever. There's some news and then we take our sweet time with the questions this week. Tangents abound, and Derek roasts me good. If you don't care about any of this skip to 1:13:42. I said we went long! Next week: Panic in the Sky. The evil plan against the JLU is picking up steam, can Luthor and his gang of random villains break the Justice League? Thanks for listening!

This week the seemingly sometimes smelly Question gets himself into hot water when he decides to kill Lex Luthor. Also, he's sleeping with Huntress? What the...? Also: Superman is a jerk! And Aztek the Ultimate Man makes a cameo! Plus I give the wrong sign-off!Before that: we have some sad news about the loss of a comic book legend. The next two Avengers get delayed. And we answer questions, one of which leads to like a 20 minute tangent. If you don't care about this stuff, you can skip right to 58:23.Next week: Justice League Unlimited, Flashpoint.

This week the Suicide Squad, err sorry, Task Force X as this is a cartoon, breaks into the Justice League's Watchtower Satellite and do battle with a real collection of Morts (we explain that reference on the show). How does this tie into the Cadmus Saga? And can you just tear the Martian Manhunter in half???Before that: letters! News! Rumors! And Derek makes the argument that casting news is... a spoiler? Don't ask me, I just work here. If you don't care about any of this stuff skip to 57:32.Next week: Justice League Unlimited season 2, episode 9, Question Authority!

We got a few weeks before Ironheart starts up so we're dipping over to the DC Universe to check out Justice League Unlimited. We'll be covering "The Cadmus Saga," starting with this episode where Batman harasses Amanda Waller. Also: why is Ice just hanging out when a volcano is erupting? Is that guy Dirk the Daring from Dragon's Lair (and do I call it Dragon Quest on the show?)? Derek gets deep on lore and we wonder why Doomsday can't break out of some hardened magma. We will return next week with the next chapter: "Task Force X"!
