THE HILDEBRAND RARITY and LICENCE TO KILL Ian Fleming published the short story “The Hildebrand Rarity” in 1960. In it, he created the character of Milton Krest. James Bond movie fans will recognize Milton Krest from 1989 movie LICENCE TO KILL. In this episode, Dan and Tom decode how this character from the short story landed in this movie. They also talk about how his character from the novel changed in the movie. And how some of his traits were split between the characters Milton Krest and Franz Sanchez in the movie. And what about Krest's wife? Parts of her character morphed into Lupe. Remember that stingray tail that Franz Sanchez uses on Lupe in LICENCE TO KILL? It had its origin in the novel as well. But it wasn't someone named Sanchez who used it. And of course, there is a Playboy tie-in here as well that we discuss. So, take a listen. Have you read “The Hildebrand Rarity”? If so, did Dan and Tom miss anything? Let us know your thoughts, ideas for future episodes, and what you thought of this episode by dropping us a note at info@spymovienavigator.com. You're in for a treat today! Matt and Frank are back to bring you a staple of November. No not turkey. No not massive sales on things you don't need. It's Bond season. And with that, both of them have selected two more James Bond entries to cover, as well as an in-depth conversation on the franchise as a whole. Frank and Matt previously covered Thunderball, Tomorrow Never Dies and No Time to Die on their other podcast Give it Five. You can check out that martini-induced ramble here. First up Matt brings us Diamonds Are Forever (1971) - Sean Connery's last official trip through the halls of MI6 as he confronts Blofeld yet again. Their battle takes them to Las Vegas, Nevada, the final destination of a diamond-smuggling chain where Blofeld unveils his more deadly evil plan to date. Then we move to the Florida Keys for Frank's pick: Licence to Kill (1989), Timothy Dalton's second - and final - wear of the tux. This time Bond goes rogue. Back when it wasn't a cliche. He's on a warpath to avenge the injury to his best friend Felix Leiter. Come to think of it you'd think he'd go after the shark, no? His target: Franz Sanchez, drug kingpin and unofficial power of the fictional island country of Isthmus.

James Bond is out on his own and out for revenge. Tom & Joe say goodbye to John Glen and sadly Timothy Dalton with Licence to Kill. When drug lord Franz Sanchez escapes custody and disfigures Felix, Bond leaves MI6 in order to go it alone to take out Sanchez and get revenge. The film is one of the worst performing entries at the box office but has the distinct reputation of being one of the more mature Bond films, with more gore and swearing throughout. Did the change in style pay off or was this one head pop too far? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In relationships you have a first love and chances are you move on and marry someone for reasons other than true love. Once you are married you can't go back to your first love. Returning to your first love is possible in art. A multi-instrumentalist might return to the tenor saxophone after years of playing other wind instruments. A sculpture might return to the paint brush. My guest today is returning to his first true love- singing. After a storied career in Hollywood that spans 30 + playing characters such as the villain in goonies, and one of the greatest Bond villains of all time Franz Sanchez he is returning to his original craft. And he is not taking it lightly as evidenced by his latest CD Davi does Sinatra which is a conglomeration of sensual romantic ballads and up tempo toe-rappers that would make ole' blue eyes proud. Saturday Morning Cereal’s That One Guy! Robert Davi Doing It Davi’s Way! Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world & working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week.. back from a long hiatus we break out of the gate fast with a crisp new nostalgic edition of “That One Guy!", which honors those actors from your favorite movies & TV shows growing up, whose name you can’t quite think of but you know who we mean… ooh, you know, from that one thing…THAT ONE GUY! Today we re-introduce you to an honest-to-God Bond villain, Robert Davi! You know, from License to Kill? Yeah, that guy! To promote the release of his feature documentary Davi’s Way; a journey to recreate Frank Sinatra’s famous 1974 “Main Event” at Madison Square Garden, we bring you this exclusive interview with Mr. Davi to talk about this project and celebrate Mr Davi’s most recognized roles include opera-singing heavy Jake Fratelli in The Goonies, and the lizard-loving, machete-wielding drug lord Franz Sanchez opposite Timothy Dalton's James Bond in License to Kill. But, Mr. Davi’s biggest impact on our pop culture may be a handful of lines as take-charge, power-cutting, Vietnam veteran door gunner and FBI special Agent Big Johnson in Die Hard. With over 150 IMDB credits, we’ll get into all of that and a whole lot more w/surprise guest Christian Sesma who directed Davi in Lost Time to help parse the man from the myth. You wanted a miracle Theo, we give you the D A V I!
JBR is back to discuss the second act of Timothy Dalton's final Bond film, Licence To Kill. We join Bond and Pam at the Barrelhead Bar (who doesn't enjoy a dose of 'Dirty Love?'), we meet Professor Joe and Bond goes deep undercover to face Franz Sanchez.
In late July, SPY Historian Vince Houghton traveled to Pasadena, CA to take part in Politicon, the “Unconventional Political Convention” (think Comic Con for political junkies). There he sat down with prolific actor Robert Davi, who played Franz Sanchez, Bond’s nemesis in License to Kill.

The Bond & Beyond Review turns its attention to what many consider to be the black sheep of the Classic 007 family. Timothy Dalton's second and (sadly) final outing as Ian Fleming's iconic secret agent sees him defying Queen and country to settle a personal vendetta with notorious drug lord Franz Sanchez. Is this just another generic '80s action film donning Bond's tuxedo, or the foundations for the popular Daniel Craig formula? Or is it both? And why, oh why does Q chuck that expensive and top secret broom radio into a bush? Listen in as we discuss the ever-divisive Licence To Kill. As always, our episodes can be found at bondbeyodpod.tumblr.com. You can chat to us on Twitter, @BondBeyondPod, or share you views at our new Facebook page - just search "Bond and Beyond".
