Full Text of Readings Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter - Mass in the Morning Lectionary: 302 The Saint of the day is Saint Gregory VII Saint Gregory VII's Story The 10th century and the first half of the 11th were dark days for the Church, partly because the papacy was the pawn of various Roman families. In 1049, things began to change when Pope Leo IX, a reformer, was elected. He brought a young monk named Hildebrand to Rome as his counselor and special representative on important missions. Hildebrand was to become Gregory VII. Three evils plagued the Church then: simony–the buying and selling of sacred offices and things; the unlawful marriage of the clergy; and lay investiture—kings and nobles controlling the appointment of Church officials. To all of these Hildebrand directed his reformer's attention, first as counselor to the popes and later as pope himself. Gregory VII's papal letters stress the role of the bishop of Rome as the vicar of Christ and the visible center of unity in the Church. He is well known for his long dispute with Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV over who should control the selection of bishops and abbots. Gregory VII fiercely resisted any attack on the liberty of the Church. For this he suffered and finally died in exile. He said, “I have loved justice and hated iniquity; therefore, I die in exile.” Thirty years later the Church finally won its struggle against lay investiture. The liturgical feast of Saint Gregory VII is celebrated on May 25. Reflection The Gregorian Reform, a milestone in the history of Christ's Church, was named after this man who tried to extricate the papacy and the whole Church from undue control by civil rulers. Against an unhealthy Church nationalism in some areas, Gregory reasserted the unity of the whole Church based on Christ, and expressed in the bishop of Rome, the successor of Saint Peter.Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media
In this episode of The Open Door, panelists Thomas Storck, Andrew Sorokowski, and Christopher Zehnder talk with Richard Spinello, a professor at Boston College, on the relationship between philosophy and theology, particularly within the Catholic tradition.Spinello emphasized the importance of philosophy in theological education, highlighting the need for a solid philosophical foundation, especially in ethics and metaphysics. The conversation also touched on the decline of Thomism in modern academia and the influence of modern philosophy on theology, particularly the challenges posed by relativism and postmodernism. The panelists agreed on the necessity of a metaphysical dimension in Catholic philosophy and the need for a revival of Thomistic studies. For more on this point, see Spinello's Four Catholic Philosophers: Rejoicing in the Truth (Jacques Maritain, Edith Stein, Dietrich von Hildebrand, Karol Wojtyła) This book unfolds the intersecting life stories of four important Catholic philosophers of the 20th century, namely, Jacques Maritain, Edith Stein, Dietrich von Hildebrand, and Karol Wojtyla, and examines the salient themes of their respective philosophies. Exploring the lives of these four individuals will unlock for the reader the nature of Catholic philosophy, which always aspires to a higher wisdom and the discovery of the hidden harmony of the universe. The spiritual itinerary of these faithful scholars is part of a larger story, therefore, of the intimate relationship between faith and reason that is at the heart of Catholic intellectual life. https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/fourcatholicphilosophers/

Was 2012 truly supposed to mark the end—or was it the beginning of something entirely different? In this intriguing and thought-provoking episode, Lloyd Hildebrand revisits the mystery and global fascination surrounding 2012, exploring the predictions, fears, and transformative ideas connected to one of the most talked-about dates in recent history. Drawing from interpretations of the Mayan Calendar and widespread cultural speculation, Lloyd examines why so many people believed 2012 could signal catastrophic change, spiritual awakening, or a dramatic shift in human consciousness. He reflects on how these ideas captured worldwide attention and what they may reveal about humanity's relationship with uncertainty and prophecy. This episode invites listeners to revisit a moment that sparked both fear and curiosity. Why are end-of-the-world narratives so compelling? Did 2012 symbolize an actual transformation in society, technology, or awareness? And what lessons can be learned from the way the world responded to these predictions? Join us for a fascinating and reflective conversation that explores prophecy, perception, and the enduring human fascination with the unknown—where the “end” may have been less about destruction and more about transformation.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. In this episode, Larry and coach Marc sit down to talk about one of the most common and least-talked-about crises facing business owner dads — burnout. Not the dramatic kind. The quiet, grinding, everyday kind where you're doing 14-hour days, drinking to decompress, wearing exhaustion like a badge of honor, and slowly losing the very people you're killing yourself to provide for. Featuring recorded clips from John — a real Boardroom member who came in on the brink of burnout — this episode is one of the most emotionally honest conversations we've had on this show. John's story will hit close to home for a lot of men. Working obsessively, drinking daily to escape, knowing something was wrong but believing the only answer was more action. His wife was losing her patience. He was losing himself. And then he stopped lone-wolfing it. Larry shares his own raw moment — telling his wife that if he's not providing, he doesn't know what value he brings to the family — and what his kids said when he and his wife actually asked them what they wanted most. Marc breaks down the BRAVE Man system, the tracker, and why busyness is not the same as results. And the episode closes with John getting so emotional he can't speak — and the silence that says everything. Timeline Summary [0:00] Introduction to the Dad Edge mission and the movement to raise leaders of families and communities [1:02] The burnout that business owner dads don't talk about — grinding for your family while quietly losing them [2:44] Leaders usually starve — because they pour everything into everyone else but themselves [4:15] Introducing Marc Hildebrand — and what today's episode is really about [5:52] How Marc met John — on the brink of burnout, drinking daily, running 14-16 hour days [7:35] The shift Marc saw by weeks four and five — doing less, but achieving more [9:11] The GPS analogy — what life feels like without a system versus with one [10:37] Why we resist new tools even when they could save us — and the old-timer cops who threw out the Garmin [12:12] Wearing burnout as a badge of honor — and the people who love you who see it from a mile away [13:29] Your kids ask "Dad, are you okay?" and you think nobody noticed [14:45] John's first clip: what life looked like before he applied — work first, drinking to escape, lone-wolfing it [17:36] The heart behind the burnout — doing it all for your family, but missing what they actually need [19:20] What Marc saw in John — a man believing there was only one way to succeed [20:10] Larry's vulnerable moment: "If I'm not providing, what value do I bring this family?" [22:10] His kids' answer when asked what they wanted most — more time, not more money [22:29] The 13 Hours scene — a Navy SEAL on his 12th deployment finally hearing "the kids don't need more money, they need you" [24:37] Why being willing to have the vulnerable conversation is the game changer [25:10] John's second clip: getting a map, small goals, and what changed in his marriage [27:25] Breaking down the BRAVE Man system — Bond, Raise, Amplify, Vitality, Enjoy, Movement, Action, Network [28:04] Why joy is a tactical requirement — if you have no joy to give, you have nothing to give [28:50] Why motivation is a lie — and why action creates motivation, not the other way around [29:13] John's transformation from 15 points a week to 40-50 — and what the tracker actually measures [31:57] Busyness does not equal results — the most dangerous trap for burned-out business owners [32:18] John's final clip — the emotional moment that stopped everyone cold [35:28] What that moment meant — a man who saved his marriage and came back to himself [37:52] What it means to have a battle to fight, a beauty to love, and an adventure to be had — together [39:05] The call to every business owner who sees a piece of John in himself Five Key Takeaways Burnout doesn't always look dramatic. It looks like 14-hour days, drinking to unwind, and quietly drifting away from the people you're working so hard to provide for. The people who love you most can see your burnout from a mile away — even when you think you're hiding it. Your kids see it. Your wife feels it. Your family doesn't want more money. They want more of you. When Larry asked his boys, the answer was time — every single time. The answer to burnout is not more action. It's better action, in the right areas, with a system that tells you what actually moves the needle. You are not a liability because you need help. John thought he had nothing to give when he walked in — and became one of the most valuable men in the room. John came in wearing his exhaustion like a badge, drinking every day to survive it, and believing the only way through was to grind harder. Six weeks later, he was lighter. His marriage was coming back. And when Larry asked him what it felt like to make his way back — he couldn't speak. That silence said everything. If there's a piece of John in you right now, this is your move. Go out and live legendary.
The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
In this episode, Larry and Dad Edge coach Marc sit down to unpack one of the most common traps business owner dads fall into — hoping things will get better instead of building a strategy to make them better. Featuring recorded clips from Jaden, a real estate investor and five-year member of the Dad Edge Business Boardroom, this episode is a real, unfiltered look at what it actually feels like to be a high-performing business owner who has it dialed at work but is guessing at home. Jaden's story is one a lot of men will recognize — stressed, stretched, showing up for everything but not really present for anyone, and telling himself tomorrow would somehow be different without any real plan to make that true. Hope is not a strategy. And that one sentence — dropped by Larry's toughest sales mentor years ago — becomes the through-line for the whole episode. Marc and Larry break down why business owners specifically are so underserved when it comes to marriage and fatherhood, why the men around you shape who you become whether you're intentional about it or not, and what happens when you stop reacting and start running a new operating system. Not just in your family — in everything. If you're a business owner who's winning at work and guessing at home, this one was made for you. Timeline Summary [0:00] Introduction to the Dad Edge mission and the movement to raise leaders of families and communities [1:02] What happens when we try our best but don't have the skills — and why winging it in marriage and fatherhood is a recipe for quiet misery [2:33] Why business owner dads are among the most underserved men out there [3:33] Starting a business is like having another kid — and most men are carrying both without the right support [5:45] Jaden's story: five-year Boardroom member, real estate investor, and a man who was just hoping tomorrow would be different [7:21] Hope is not a strategy — why hope without a plan turns against you over time [8:31] Marc's experience as a police officer and Larry's in sales — guessing in the early days and what changed when they found the right room [11:19] Hope is not a strategy — the mentor who stopped Larry cold and changed how he approached everything [13:58] What Jaden started learning inside the Boardroom — generative questions and the skill of processing in real time [15:04] Walking the cube: facts, story, emotions, action — and how it replaces emotional dumping with intentional response [16:39] It becomes your operating system — not a skill you have to work at, but how you fundamentally operate [18:18] These skills don't just change your family — they change your business too because you take your head everywhere [19:29] The tools that become part of your identity: emotional validation, generative questions, psychological safety, walking the cube [20:11] The software upgrade analogy — your marriage won't run optimally on an outdated operating system [21:39] Jaden's advice for men on the outside: you cannot do this work alone. It's a 12-foot ladder with only two rungs. [23:00] Larry asks Jaden where he'd be without the Boardroom — and the pause that said everything [24:21] Mark's insight: surround yourself with people who already have what you want — that's the cheat code [25:42] What Larry thought when he joined his first mastermind in 2015 — and why he called back 11 minutes later [28:27] What Larry found on that first Monday morning call — every question he was afraid to ask was suddenly welcomed [30:07] The call to action for every business owner dad listening right now Five Key Takeaways Hope is not a strategy. Hoping your marriage or your relationship with your kids gets better without a plan is not optimism — it's guessing. And guessing sucks. You take your head everywhere. The skills you build at home show up in your business, and the chaos you carry from work shows up at home. Upgrading your operating system changes everything. The men around you shape who you become — whether you're intentional about it or not. Surround yourself with men who already have what you want, and you'll take on their habits, beliefs, and results. These skills don't take more time — they eliminate the time you waste reacting, apologizing, and cleaning up the mess of not having them. You cannot do this work alone. A brotherhood that can name the next rung of the ladder for you is not a luxury — it's the difference between spinning in place and actually climbing. Every man listening to this has the same 24 hours. The difference between the man who looks up in ten years with the life he wanted and the man who wonders where it all went is not talent, not luck, and not harder work. It's strategy. It's skills. It's the room he chose to be in. If you're a business owner who's winning at work and guessing at home — this is your move. Go out and live legendary.

SHOW NOTES FOR “A CALENDAR OF GREGORIES” The bracket is back! Paul's application of March Madness oddsmaking to the name and fame of popes throughout history returns in this episode. Co-hosts Paul and Bill, after completing a tour of popes called Leo, now look at Pope Gregory, a popular name that appeared in sixteen iterations. This makes for an informative roller coaster ride through the past. This chain started out with a man actually born as Gregory. He chose to be Pope Gregory I and ruled in the Vatican in the years 590-604, but the Catholic Church has chosen to call him Gregory the Great. He did much to shape the Church of the Dark Ages and Medieval times. He was a great administrator, even helping to “orchestrate” the development of Gregorian Chant. He is a canonized saint. Gregory II reigned in 715-731. He was one of the popes dealing with warring European factions and with the rise of Islam. He is a canonized saint. Gregory III, whose term was 731-741, addressed issues such as iconoclasm, a penchant among some European Catholic factions as well as in Islam. Paul goes on to tell tales of Gregory IV (827-844) and of Gregory V (996-999), who was the first German pope, and of Gregory VI (1045-1046). This simoniac resigned a year before his death. Gregory VII (1073-1085) was born Hildebrand of Sovana. This great reformer is a canonized saint. Gregory VIII ruled for two months in 1187. Gregory IX (1227-1241) was followed by Gregory X (1271-1276) and by Gregory XI (1370-1378), who was the last French pope and the last pope to reign in Avignon as the holy see. Gregory XII (1406-1415) He was the last of the Roman line during the Western Schism (1378–1417), when the papacy was contested by antipopes in Avignon (France) and in Pisa (Italy). Gregory XIII (1572-1585) promulgated the Gregorian Calendar. Gregory XIV had a short tenure in 1590-1591. Then came Gregory XV (1621-1623). Gregory XVI (1831-1846) presided over debates on how to handle the future of the papal states, and he supported traditional monarchies in Europe, says Britannica. He was the last pope named Gregory. The classic papal name Gregory provides a throughline for viewing immense change between the secular and the sacred, spanning conflict and continuity in the first and second millennia of the Common Era. The calendar changed, but the Church is still here. Photo: Unidentified, San Gregorio Magno, 18th century, carved and painted wood, 27 1⁄2 x 9 5⁄8 x 9 1⁄4 in. Hope for Right Now Podcast–Desert Bloom, A Lenten Journey: Activity vs. Receptivity While Walking with Purpose Founder Lisa takes time to write our next women's Bible study, Laura Phelps welcomes guest Caitlin Bean to the Hope for Right Now podcast for a seven-week series: Desert Bloom, A Lenten Journey. Lent is a time of sacrifice, preparation, and spiritual waiting—a time to prepare our hearts for Easter through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. For many of us, it has become about exterior performance, a “holy checklist” we begin on Ash Wednesday and struggle to sustain for 40 days. And preparation? Who has time for that? We are exhausted—after all, it was just Christmas! If this is how your heart feels at the start of Lent, this series is for you—offering practical encouragement, Scripture reflections, and simple ways to experience a more meaningful, peace-filled Lent. In today's episode, Laura and Caitlin talk about receptivity, an aspect of the feminine genius, and why losing distractions is necessary for interior transformation. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Matthew 6:2–4: Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. John 6:10: Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” 1 Peter 5:8: Be sober, be watchful; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Psalm 22:1–2: The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing. He hath set me in a place of pasture. (Douay-Rheims) John 5:17: My Father is working still, and I am working. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Are we too busy to receive because of our ungodly need to achieve? Let's not forget that spiritual transformation depends on receptivity, not activity. We can rest, because God is always at work. Is there something in your life that you have called a failure that is actually the Lord setting you in a place of pasture? Show mentions. In this powerful behind-the-scenes conversation, Marc and I sit down to unpack Eric's story — a successful entrepreneur, father of five, and longtime member of the Dad Edge Business Boardroom. Eric opens up about the strained season in his marriage, the subtle warning signs he ignored, and the moment his wife Katie made it clear that change needed to happen. This episode is about more than marriage repair. It's about ownership. It's about learning skills most men were never taught — emotional validation, empathy, leadership at home — and realizing that waiting for crisis only makes the climb steeper. If you're a busy business owner who feels scattered, distracted, or "almost disconnected" at home, this conversation will hit close to home. Timeline Summary: [0:00] The distraction trap of entrepreneurship and busyness [4:48] Eric shares the difficult season in his marriage before joining [7:18] The early warning signs and Katie's wake-up call [9:06] Why waiting for crisis puts men into panic mode [13:48] Learning emotional validation and empathy as new skills [16:11] Skills vs. identity change — upgrading your operating system [19:17] The public signs that Eric's marriage was turning around [22:31] Why you must change first instead of waiting for your wife to [26:47] Eric's biggest advice: find a community of strong men [29:32] The power of psychological safety and brotherhood Five Key Takeaways The drift from good to terrible is gradual — then sudden. Don't wait for the cliff. Panic is not the best place to rebuild a marriage. Address the rumblings early. Emotional validation and empathy are skills — not personality traits. Identity change happens through environment and repetition. If you want your marriage to change, you must change first. In this powerful behind-the-scenes conversation, I sit down with Marc Hildebrand — former LAPD sergeant turned high-performance coach — to unpack what men are actually thinking before they decide to step into brotherhood. We break down the hidden anxiety, ego, embarrassment, and "mind talk" that keeps men isolated, stuck, and spinning in quiet defeat. You'll hear raw audio from one of our members, Tim Cox, as he shares what life looked like before he joined — the mental spiral, the weight gain, the doctor's warning, the loneliness, and the breakthrough that changed everything. This episode isn't just about business or health. It's about identity. It's about the stories we tell ourselves. And it's about the moment a man decides he's no longer doing life alone. Timeline Summary [0:00] Why men feel defeated before they ever ask for help [3:37] Marc Hildebrand's transformation from overweight LAPD sergeant to coach [9:20] Tim's confession: anxiety, mind talk, and feeling like a fraud [11:01] The danger of "should" statements and internal pressure [17:22] Ego, embarrassment, and the fear of being seen [24:58] The doctor's ultimatum: insulin or change [27:01] Dopamine, food, and emotional coping [30:52] Rock bottom isn't a place — it's a decision [34:22] Why you shouldn't wait until crisis hits [37:54] "You're not alone" — the most powerful realization [41:03] The myth of the lone wolf [44:21] Inside Base Camp: the first 6 weeks of transformation [46:19] The BRAVE Man Code framework explained [49:57] Thinking differently and leveling up identity [53:39] Why Larry left a lucrative corporate career to build The Dad Edge Five Key Takeaways Rock bottom is not a location — it's a decision to stop going lower. Ego often disguises itself as embarrassment and self-protection. Isolation amplifies anxiety — brotherhood dissolves it. Health transformation starts with identity, not tactics. Writing the Textbook for Emergency CareWhat does it look like when a community builds critical infrastructure before established institutions recognize the need? In this episode, we examine a short-lived but transformative ambulance program that helped define modern emergency medical response at a time when most U.S. emergency calls were handled by minimally trained personnel. At the intersection of medical research, workforce development, and community trust, this effort, known as the Freedom House Ambulance Service, reframed first responders as field clinicians and demonstrated how on-the-job education can function as public health infrastructure. Learn about the researchers and educators who helped shape early resuscitation science, the culture of embedded learning that accelerated community care, and the institutional shifts that rippled across the country in the wake of the program's success.00:30 Intro + Ohio's changing kindergarten enrollment cutoffs; school & family impact06:00 Freedom House Ambulance Service: Community-driven transformation in Pittsburgh's Hill District13:20 Learning under fire: education and training in the field17:05 Writing the textbook for emergency medical care18:30 Building effective learning community in a crisis context23:20 Rules, restrictions, and mavericks; pushing boundaries to further medical research25:50 Education as public infrastructure, not credentialing pipeline; the relative value of expertise27:00 The structure of schools & workplaces for community empowermentFor a full list of episode sources and resources, visit our website.Sources & Further Reading:Freedom House Ambulance Service - WikipediaNancy Caroline - WikipediaPeter Safar - WikipediaEmergency Medical Services - WikipediaAmerica's First Paramedics Were Black. Tina Mabley, Senior Assistant Dean of the Full-Time MBA Program at Texas McCombs, joins host Graham Richmond to unpack one of McCombs' signature student-development initiatives: the Hildebrand Leadership Fellows. She explains how the program was built to fill a critical gap in traditional MBA training, why McCombs draws a sharp distinction between leadership and management, and how students often rethink their own assumptions about what it means to lead. She walks through the program's core components — assessments, coaching, workshops, and deep reflection — and explores the hands-on experiences that help Fellows translate big ideas into real behavior change.
They finally got him! Despite being the hide and seek champion, Hildebrand has finally been cornered into being pope. And what a papacy he will have! In his episode (now officially our longest episode to date), we will discuss the Investiture Controversy, the famous Walk to Canossa, what the hell a 'toot' could be, and something that Fry hates, but Bry loves. Episode features Ben Jacobs from Wittenberg to Westphalia, David Montgomery from The Siecle, and Gregg Gassman of Popeular history. Got feedback about this episode? Send Carolyn a textLandon Hildebrand is an Edmonton-based Registered Psychologist, trail runner, and co-owner of Approach Psychology. When Landon first joined me on the podcast, he introduced the idea of joy as a motivator. This time, he takes that concept further — reframing joy as a litmus test for psychological health in both running and life. What makes this conversation especially powerful is the perspective Landon brings. Last time, he spoke mainly as a psychologist who happens to be an athlete. This time, he shows up first as an athlete — one who also happens to be a psychologist. With honesty and vulnerability, Landon shares the personal health challenges and stresses he's faced over the past year, and how they've forced him to re-examine his relationship with sport, self, and well-being.Together, we explore:Why being psychologically healthy doesn't always look like PRs or “successful” racesHow big, unplanned life events can be catalysts for deeper healing and growthHow therapy buzzwords — safety, trust, peace, freedom, vulnerability, curiosity — play out in real lifeWhy applying these principles often takes much longer than simply learning themHow joy can serve as a compass when we feel stuck or lostLandon's blend of humour, insight, and personal reflection makes this a deeply relatable episode for anyone navigating the ups and downs of running and life beyond the pursuit of PRs.Connect with Landon:Register for his Endurance Mind online workshop Nov 19th: https://tinyurl.com/53bub6ekInstagram: @approachpsychology and @landon_ approachpsychWebsite: approachpsych.caLandon's first episode on Inspired Soles: Elevating Your Mental GameConnect with Carolyn:Instagram: @inspiredsolescast or @carolyn.c.coffinYou can help spread the running love! She highlights the dangers of both neglecting feelings and also allowing feelings to usurp the role of reason, emphasizing the need to balance the heart and the mind through cooperation with grace. Today we continue our series, sponsored by the University of Dallas: "A Knight for Truth," examining the life and thought of Dietrich von Hildebrand. In this episode, Lily explores Hildebrand's Transformation in Christ and the necessity to be open to God's grace, in contrast with the modern emphasis on self-acceptance and self-fulfillment. She emphasizes the need to recognize our imperfections and sinfulness, and the importance of submitting to God's will rather than trying to change on our own terms, which is difficult but essential for true freedom and transformation. Today we continue our series, sponsored by the University of Dallas: "A Knight for Truth," examining the life and thought of Dietrich von Hildebrand. In this episode, Lily discusses how Hildebrand wrote Transformation in Christ during summer retreats in Florence, where he could focus on his spiritual work away from the demands of his anti-Nazi activism. She explains his concepts of “actual” and “superactual”—the immediate and deeper spiritual realities in one's life—and how Hildebrand's profound faith and love for the Church sustained him amid the turmoil. Synopsis of Tonight's Group on The Evergetinos Volume II Hypothesis XXXIV Sections A6-F Conclusion: When we come across the high standards of the desert fathers, especially if they are jarring to our own sensibilities, we can tend to not just to read their writings critically but to dismiss them as hyperbolic or extreme. Yet it is precisely the internal dis-ease that their writings create within us that brings us back to the heart of the gospel and what it means to be a Christian. What does it mean to put on the mind of Christ and have our conscience formed and shaped by the grace of God and the gospel? How does it shape the way that we understand what it means to be a human being or the things that we take for granted such as laughter or familiarity in relationships? Upon closer examination, we see that there are many displays of humor that are rooted in a lack of sobriety and sense of reverence for our own dignity and the dignity of others. We rarely think about how our words and actions, our bearing or form of dress, affect those who are around us. Are we seeking to protect the dignity and spiritual well-being of those around us? Do we hold their identity as sons and daughters of God as something precious and to be revered? The simplest realities of day-to-day life and interactions need to be attended to the most; for they are often the means through which we are tempted. The evil one can make use of what is good and pleasing about our lives as a means to draw us into excess. In the end, it is Christ and the gospel that must be the lens through which we view our lives and behavior. We see Christ, who, although perfectly innocent and filled with love was stripped of dignity, mocked and pinned to the cross. We hear Him say to us “take up your cross daily and follow me” - calling us to a sober sense of what our life in this world will be like as his disciples. In the beatitudes, we hear Him say “blessed her those who mourn” reminding us not only of our share in his cross but the necessity of morning for our own sins. Christ has everything to do with what affects or afflicts us. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:06:25 Fr. Should we simply be contemplating the suffering and be joyful that we are suffering in this life instead of the next? 00:36:02 wayne: When humor tuns to sarcasm, then it can become hurtful. 00:36:13 Catherine Opie: Reacted to "When humor tuns to s..." with
Today we continue our series, sponsored by the University of Dallas: "A Knight for Truth," examining the life and thought of Dietrich von Hildebrand. In this episode, Lily explores Hildebrand's flight from Nazi Germany in 1933 and his time in Vienna, where he founded an anti-Nazi magazine with the support of Austrian Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss, who was assassinated by the Nazis in 1934. Hildebrand continued his anti-Nazi activities and faced increasing persecution, until he was forced to flee Austria in 1938 as the Nazis invaded. Lily tells how Hildebrand's faith and moral courage sustained him, and how he wrote his magnum opus, Transformation in Christ, during this period. Today we continue our series, sponsored by the University of Dallas: "A Knight for Truth," examining the life and thought of Dietrich von Hildebrand. In this episode, Lily begins discussing Hildebrand's opposition to the Nazis. Despite warnings about the dangers of Nazism by Hildebrand and others like him, many Germans, including Catholics, were deceived by Hitler's rhetoric. Hildebrand's principled stand against Nazi ideology led to his being blacklisted and forced to flee Germany. This series is sponsored by The University of Dallas. Join Lisa and Laura for Unshakable Identity. During these four weeks we look at four different aspects of our identity as women and the corresponding characteristics of our feminine genius. As daughter, it's sensitivity. As sister, it's generosity. As bride, it's receptivity. As mother, it's maternity. Our goal is that as we explore each of these, we will gain a better understanding of our true identity. In this final episode, Lisa and Laura dive into the fourth aspect of our identity: motherhood. You do not have to have biological children to be a mother, because mother is the very essence of femininity. We are all mothers and our maternity is a gift we are called to offer widely and generously. This is an episode for every woman longing to mother or be mothered. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. John 19:7: Behold, your Mother. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Have you had the experience of being a spiritual mother or have you been spiritually mothered? How might the Lord be calling you to cultivate a spiritual mothering presence in your community, whether it's within your church, workplace, or neighborhood?
