Portanto, toda glória pertence a Deus.Pr. Nesta mensagem, o Pr.

Homero, A odisséiaSobre a imagem do homem, a hidra e o leão: Platão, A república, Livro 9.

Welcome to Day 2946 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain and today is Day 2946 – Theology Thursday – Sirach and the Fight for Israel's Soul Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2946 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps!   I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2946 of our Trek.   The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Our current series of Theology Thursday lessons is written by theologian and teacher John Daniels. I have found that his lessons are short, easy to understand, doctrinally sound, and applicable to all who desire to learn more of God's Word. John's lessons are available on his website, theologyinfive.com.  Sirach and the Fight for Israel's Soul. The Book of Sirach stands at a turning point in the history of Israel. After the conquests of Alexander the Great, the ancient world changed forever. Greek culture, language, philosophy, and civic life spread across the Near East with remarkable speed. This cultural tide carried enormous pressure, because Hellenism was not simply a set of interesting ideas. It was a full identity system that sought to redefine what it meant to be human. In this environment, many Jews abandoned the covenant, believing that Greek customs offered a path to prosperity, prestige, and modernity. Sirach emerges from this crisis as a call to renewed loyalty to Yahweh. It confronts the seductive promises of Hellenism and offers a vision of wisdom anchored in the covenant rather than the philosophies of the nations. The first segment is: What Hellenism Was. Hellenism reshaped the world by promoting a single cultural framework grounded in the Greek language and the ideals of classical Greece. It elevated philosophical schools like the Stoics and Epicureans. It introduced gymnasiums that celebrated physical excellence, public honor, and the pursuit of fame. It established theaters that portrayed Greek mythology as the universal story of humanity. It encouraged participation in Greek civic life, which often required honoring Greek gods and adopting Greek moral values. This cultural system promised enlightenment and unity, presenting itself as the natural next step for any society wishing to progress. It was attractive because it offered social mobility and respect in a world where power had shifted decisively toward Greek norms. The second segment is: Why Hellenism Threatened Israel For Israel, the spread of Hellenism created a direct conflict with the covenant. Greek philosophy grounded virtue in human reason rather than in obedience to the God of Abraham. Greek athletics celebrated the human body in ways that clashed with Jewish modesty and purity laws. Greek civic rituals often involved sacrifices or festivals to the Greek gods. Even the Greek language and educational system encouraged a worldview that placed human achievement at the center rather than Yahweh. Many young Jews saw Hellenism as sophisticated and forward-looking. They wanted to join the gymnasium, study philosophy, adopt Greek names, and climb the social ladder. This was not a casual interest. It required abandoning parts of Jewish identity. Circumcision was mocked as barbaric. Loyalty to Yahweh was treated as narrow-minded. The pressure to assimilate was immense. The third segment is: The Jewish Conflict Under Hellenistic Pressure. This cultural tension fractured Jewish society. A group later known as the Hasidim resisted assimilation and insisted on faithfulness to the covenant. Other Jews, particularly those in positions of power, embraced Hellenism as the path to political and social advancement. Competition between these groups intensified until it eventually set the stage for the crisis under Antiochus IV. Even before that explosion, the conflict was already reshaping daily life in Jerusalem. The Book of Sirach comes from this period when assimilation was growing rapidly, and the faithful needed clear guidance to resist it. The fourth segment is: Sirach as Resistance Literature. Sirach is not merely a collection of sayings. It is a deliberate pushback against the cultural takeover of Hellenism. Ben Sira confronts the idea that wisdom can be defined by human intellect or philosophical speculation. He insists that the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom and that true understanding comes only through covenant obedience. This stands in sharp contrast with Greek philosophical traditions that grounded virtue in reason, logic, or the disciplined human will. Sirach places humility at the center of wisdom in a world that celebrated fame, glory, and self-elevation. Sirach counters Greek ideals by teaching that wisdom begins with awe before the Creator, not with human insight. He rebukes the pursuit of honor for its own sake, warns against the destructive power of pride, and emphasizes the holiness of marriage, family, and righteous speech in a culture that glorified pleasure, ambition, and the art of persuasive rhetoric. The fifth segment is: Sirach's Strategy for Preserving Israel. Ben Sira sought to form a community capable of resisting assimilation. He taught that honoring parents was not merely good manners but a foundation of covenant life. He linked generosity to trust in God rather than to Greek ideals of civic virtue. He rooted ethics in the commandments, not in philosophical debates. He warned against false friendships and manipulative speech, both of which characterized political life in Hellenistic cities. Every part of his instruction was aimed at creating a resilient identity grounded in Yahweh rather than the prestige of Greek culture. Sirach's approach was simple and profound. If Israel remained faithful in daily life, it would remain faithful in moments of crisis. If Israel treasured humility, purity, and obedience, the temptations of Hellenism would lose their appeal. His wisdom was not abstract. It was a way of life designed to protect the covenant community. The sixth segment is: The Praise of the Fathers as Cultural Warfare. Chapters 44 through 50 form one of the most deliberate acts of cultural resistance in ancient Jewish literature. Greek culture filled the world with heroic narratives that celebrated men who were born from unions between gods and human women. Figures like Achilles, Heracles, Perseus, and Helen were remembered as half divine beings whose power, stature, and physical prowess exceeded normal human limits. They were not described as towering giants like the Titans or the Gigantes, but ancient writers often portrayed them as unusually large, strong, or imposing when compared with ordinary people of their time. Their scale and abilities placed them within the same broad category of divine human hybrids that the Bible associates with the Nephilim, even if their size was not monstrous. Ben Sira understood what these stories represented. The Greek heroic tradition did not simply offer entertaining myths. It offered an identity system rooted in beings connected to the spiritual rebellion described in Genesis. Their greatness was measured through violence, pride, sensuality, and the pursuit of glory. Their stories shaped the imagination of those who admired them and encouraged the moral values at the heart of Hellenistic culture. Sirach responded by presenting a different lineage of greatness. Instead of exalting demigods, he lifted up Enoch, who walked with God, Abraham, who trusted God, Moses, who confronted empires, Aaro,n who guarded holiness, Phinehas, who defended purity, Davi,d who shepherded Israel, and Elija,h who opposed idolatry. These were faithful humans rather than hybrids born of rebellious spirits. They represented humility, obedience, covenant identity, and devotion to Yahweh. In doing this, Ben Sira declared that Israel did not need the myths of the nations to define true greatness. Israel already had a sacred history rooted in the work of the Most High. The Praise of the Fathers was therefore an act of cultural warfare. It rejected the spiritual corruption behind Greek heroic tradition and replaced it with a godly vision of strength and virtue. The seventh segment is: How Sirach Shaped the World of Jesus. When Jesus walked the hills of Galilee, the struggle between faithfulness and Hellenism was still shaping Jewish life. The moral vocabulary promoted by Sirach influenced the world in which Jesus taught. Many of His teachings on generosity, integrity, humility, and wise...

Bom dia!!!! #Humildade, #Zelo e #Fidelidade

Rachel Atherton is one of the greatest downhill mountain bike racers of all time. With 40 UCI Downhill World Cup victories, six overall titles, five elite World Championships and the only perfect World Cup season in history, Rachel achieved almost everything the sport could offer. In this deeply honest conversation with Davi and Olly, Rachel opens up about what happened when winning stopped defining her. Recorded at Dyfi Bike Park in Wales, Rachel discusses motherhood, suffering a serious postpartum haemorrhage during the birth of her second daughter and the difficult recovery that followed. She explains why she felt torn between motherhood and racing after having her first child, her experience of postpartum depression and why winning her 40th World Cup at Lenzerheide left her feeling unexpectedly empty. Rachel also reveals why she eventually stepped away from racing, how injury changed her priorities and why discovering a new purpose has sometimes felt harder than winning a World Cup. The conversation explores the loneliness and pressure of dominating downhill, how her relationship helped separate her identity from her results and the hidden workload that comes with being the fastest rider in the world. This is Rachel Atherton beyond the race results. We hope you enjoy the episode. Week 171! What does the way you deal with a locked door say about your personality? Apparently, quite a lot — especially if your answer is “break it down.”This week on Deaf Dialogue, Davi, Wes VA, and Quiet K somehow turn a simple locked-door hypothetical into a full-blown Hogwarts house personality test. Would you knock? Search for a key? Pick the lock? Or just destroy the damn door? The answers lead to an unexpected debate over Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff — and, naturally, everyone immediately forgets what Slytherin is actually supposed to represent. The conversation also gets a little more serious as Wes talks about his ongoing back problems, the frustrations of trying to get medical care, and his upcoming MRI and specialist appointment. Then L'Oreal shares a scary experience involving flashes and dark spots in her vision that sent her to the ER and ultimately revealed a change in the vitreous of her eye.Throw in some ridiculous guessing games, random tangents, and the usual Deaf Dialogue chaos, and you've got another episode that somehow manages to go from Harry Potter to back pain to eye anatomy without making any sense at all — which is exactly how we like it. Enjoy!

The Mother of Silicon Valley Heresy: Paulina Borsook on the Second Coming of Cyberselfish

Keen On Democracy

“On my headstone, it would say: I was always right. I never lied, and no one paid any attention to me.” — Paulina Borsook A quarter of a century ago, the tech journalist Paulina Borsook published Cyberselfish, one of the earliest critiques of Silicon Valley's libertarian culture. While the heretical book got widely reviewed, it not only didn't sell but cursed her writing career, Borsook claiming she couldn't get published again on any subject. Used copies of Cyberselfish could be had for a few dollars and she became just another forgotten tech dissenter. Then, last year, Borsook was magically resurrected. The New York Times (re)discovered her as “the writer who dared criticize Silicon Valley” and the price of secondhand copies of Cyberselfish jumped to over a thousand dollars. The world caught up with her tech scepticism. Like an AI startup, Borsook is now hot. So hot, in fact, that the original Cyberselfish is now being republished not only in the US and UK, but also in France. So hot, that we now have a new word: “Borsookian,” to describe Silicon Valley libertarianism. The funny thing is that nothing much has changed over the last quarter century since Borsook's original book came out. Not tech's libertarian hostility to government. Not the Silicon Valley boys-only club. And certainly not Paulina Borsook, who retains what the Grateful Dead lyricist and digital utopian John Perry Barlow half-lovingly called her “dyspeptic” manner. “On my headstone, it would say: I was always right,” Paulina Borsook confides with dyspeptic glee. “I never lied, and no one paid any attention to me.” How delicious to be so fully resurrected. What fun for the heretic to help transform the original orthodoxy into the new heresy. Five Takeaways •       Back from the Dead. The resurrection required no publicist: used copies of Cyberselfish drifted from $4 toward $1,000; graduate students begged her for copies she couldn't supply; a stranger she's never met posted on LinkedIn that she'd gotten everything right and been forgotten — and it went viral. That led to Gil Duran, whose furious Bluesky post (after a Wired mea-culpa writer interviewed him about her for forty-five minutes and cited neither of them) alerted The New York Times, whose November feature — “The Writer Who Dared Criticize Silicon Valley” — brought her agent's immortal email: “we always knew you were right.” Tin House is reissuing the book on September 15 with a Duran foreword and her new afterword, changing not a word. Younger readers, she's told, like that it doesn't read like a TED Talk. Her headstone joke covers the whole arc: always right, never lied, no one paid attention.•       Why Are They So Mad? The book's core observation remains undefeated: “no sector of society has benefited more and suffered less from the government than people in Silicon Valley. So why are they acting like this, and why are they so mad?” “Libertarian” was simply her shorthand for a subculture violently anti-government, totally anti-regulation, and drunk on Ayn Rand — or, in the book's reframe, the mind-set of adolescents craving total rampaging autonomy while someone else does the laundry. She wrote it from inside: a Wired freelancer under Louis Rossetto (who handed new writers The New Journalism), perpetually paired point-counterpoint against John Perry Barlow, whose Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace made her snort and whose “dyspeptic” label she wears as a compliment. Kevin Kelly, she insists, is not Sam Altman — they almost never agreed, but she doesn't demonize — “except that they have a belief in everything that tech wants to do is fine.” The book, she says now, is a Guide for the Perplexed: the metaphors and framing to decode everything the current crop is spewing.•       That Damn Book. She calls it TDB — That Damn Book — because it wrecked her. A strong media arc and worldwide reviews, then no sales and a career that “came to a crashing halt”: for twenty-five years she could not get published again, on tech or anything else; a finalist for four fellowships, winner of none; no one — blacklist theorists, gender theorists — could ever explain it. “I have PTSD from twenty-five years of never being able to be published again.” The lost years: seven of nasty elder care, an eviction that put everything she owned in storage, six years as an Airbnb superhost in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and the art project My Life as a Ghost — about the traumatic brain injury she's carried since a friend accidentally shot her with a Colt 45 at fourteen. She resists the redemptive reading that the TBI explains her outsider eye (“I'm a package deal”), and values tech precisely as the utility — word processing, BBSs for the housebound — that made a writing life possible. Using is not worshiping.•       AI Is the Inevitable Result of Cyberselfishness. “Was anybody asking for this? Not really.” AI, on her reading, is the financial play the culture was always building toward — there's little real innovation left, “except for surveillance capitalism” and, in her Shakespearean phrase, the current crop “borrowing the robes of the tech culture of another era.” Her oldest fascination has become the newest: since ELIZA in the sixties, people have preferred confessing to machines over talking to humans — AI boyfriends included — and “it gets so much stuff wrong that people wanna rely on this” bewilders her still. Andrew's question about Anthropic's calls for regulation drew the hour's driest line: “isn't that just sort of the lipstick on a pig issue? I'll believe it when I see it” — nobody, she notes, will do anything that touches the stock price. Her counter-example is the late Peter Neumann, the computer scientist who gave $4 million to the San Francisco Symphony's chorus: “we will not see his like again.”•       The Blue of Tahoe. Asked what freedom means, she calls the word too abused to define — a card-carrying ACLU member since high school who believes just as firmly in regulation, and whose answer to Sergey Brin's California-as-Soviet-Union hissy fit is the episode's keeper: “what do you think keeps the water of Tahoe so very blue except for government regulation and environmental scientists? Who do you think regulates the use of the term organic?” The regulation-freedom dynamic, she argues, is healthy — it's the worship that isn't. Her San Francisco test: The Crucible, the beloved East Bay institution that taught Burning Man its metalwork, gets nothing from the boom, while art nonprofits die weekly and the winners insist they owe nothing because they pay taxes — “which they try very much not to do.” Burning Man itself she reads via Brave New World: the violent passion surrogate, a scheduled space for disorder before returning to lives spent “creating nonsense and ruining a lot of things that we hold dear.” A California writer to the end — and, per Glengarry Glen Ross, always be closing. About the Guest Paulina Borsook has worked in and around Northern California tech culture since the early 1980s. Formerly on the masthead of Wired, she has written for Mother Jones, Salon, and countless tech and non-tech publications, and is a contributing editor at InFormation (“every day computers are making people easier to use”), the revived tech-skeptic magazine of past guest Davi...

Entregue tudo a Ele.

“Do seu santuário ele me ouviu” (v.7).

E quase consegui me safar, até que Deus me impediu. Ele fez pesar a minha consciência culpada. Ele diz a Deus: “Enquanto me recusei a confessar meu pecado, meu corpo definhou […]

Primeiro clamor: examina-me. Segundo clamor: protege-me.
