Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we start a new end of year tradition as we celebrate 40 years of 1984 movies with “Our Best, Year of Movies Draft”. That's right. 1984 is maybe the most consequential year in movie mania history as it's the beginning of the GenX blockbuster era . The Terminator, The Karate Kid, SixteenCandles, Ghostbusters (heck, even Indiana Jones makes an appearance), are but a few of the 1984 monster hits that informed what Hollywood would become for 40 years! But because we couldn't possibly talk about all them, we decided on an fantasy league style draft where our hostfull panel will draft their “Starting Five” best movies of 1984. Hard choices will have to be made but there are no winners or losers, just lively conversation and good cheer! Join Grim Shea, Marke., Johnny Heck and Retro Cool Nerd's Jimmy “The Gent” Leszcynski as they dig deep into the nostalgia well to draft their best 1984 movies.

Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we present a SDCC24 roundtable conversation with UFC and WWE champion, multi-ESPY award winner, Olympic judo medalist, Hollywood actress, and now graphic novelist RondaRousey. That's right! THE RONDA ROUSEY actually went to San Diego Comic-Con 2024 and no, it wasn't to kick ass and take names but rather to discuss her debut graphic novel Expecting the Unexpected and her journeys after stepping out of the ring and into the world of comic books. Eisner Award winning artist MikeDeodato, Jr. (Avengers,TheFlash) and AWA Chief Creative Officer AxelAlonso also join the roundtable to celebrate the book's launch and the innovative creative process behind this powerful project. Join hosts Grim Shea and Marke as they get back in the swing of things and kick off our 12th season with a world champion premier guest! Created by Ronda Rousey & AWA Studios, EXPECTING THE UNEXPECTED tells the story of a pregnant assassin balancing creating life and taking them. It's funny, it's touching, it's full of action – it's totally Ronda! “Conceived”/penned by Rousey, edited by Alonso with art by Deodato, Jr., the graphic novel draws on Rousey's incredible career in the ring and pairs it with Deodato's martial arts background to create the most accurate and action-packed fight scenes in comics!
The Saturday Morning Cereal Show: The show that celebrates the themes of Saturday morning TV that not only we grew up with but that grew up with us, reminds you to take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, it's No Badge Required as we “take it outside” of San Diego Comic Con with special guest, composer JoanneHigginbottom (SamuraiJack, Primal, CriminalMinds). It's July. It's San Diego. It's Comic-Con! And this is absolutely not a San Diego Comic-Con preview show! That's right, instead of talking about what may happen at Comic-Con 2024 we are going to talk about what does happen, outside of the San Diego Convention Center every year, with a spirited walk down memory lane to discuss our favorite outside installations and exhibits that we've seen over the years. To lead our "no badge required" conversation, we crack open the SDCC23 audio vault, to debut our 1-on-1 interview with composer Joanne Higginbottom recorded on the day of her rock star performance alongside fellow composer Tyler Bates and a live orchestra at the Genndy Tartakovsky Musical Experience. This concert was held at the Adult Swim Festival On The Green carnival installation outside of SDCC featuring the music from Adult Swim's shows Primal and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal. Join Dan “Grim” Shea, Marke., and Johnny Heck as they host our season 11 finale and rock out with their comic-con's out…side!

This week, we celebrate May the 4th and the silver anniversary The Phantom Menace with writer, podcaster Marc Bernardin. Snap hiss back to a more civilized time. A time before, the internet, podcasts, reaction videos and the scummiest & villainous of them all the “Fandom Menace”. Star Wars had been out of theaters for 15 years. GI Joes, Transformers, TMNT and even The Power Rangers had taken over toy shelves across the USA. And then came a movie that changed it all… Meet Joe Black. Well, not exactly Meet Joe Black but rather the world debut of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace trailer and we haven't stopped talking about Star Wars since. Have you accepted Jar Jar Binks as your holy savior? Join Grim Shea, Marke, Johnny Heck and The Retro Cool Nerd Jimmy Leszczynski as they blast back to 1999 and where they were physically & psychologically for the theatrical return of Star Wars. Recorded live from the Golden Apple Foundation booth at WonderCon 2024, our guest Marc Bernardin is a monster of modern fandom. He's written for LA Times, Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Weekly and staff writer for Alphas, Castle Rock, Treadstone and Carnival Row. He's co-hosted Batman Beyond with Kevin Smith and The Battlestar Galacticast with Tricia Helfer but he comes to use as a comic book writer on the new Mace Windu series for Marvel. And if if his cred couldn't get any more incredulous, he's also written for DC & Image Comics where in 2018, he won an Inkpot Award by CCI. I have a good feeling about this!

This week, we talk sci-fi and 80's catch phrases with our guest, director and producer Richard Bakewell. What if the past you remember didn't really happen? That's the simple premise of filmmaker Richard Bakewell's character-driven, science fiction drama, ROSWELL DELIRIUM, which centers around a young woman who survives nuclear disaster and alien encounters, only to slowly discover that the events she remembers are distorted by her traumatic experiences. It's an award winning sci-fi movie that gets meta with 80's catch phrases and an 80's TV and movie star cast including Anthony Michael Hall, Lisa Whelchel, Dee Wallace, Sam Jones, and Reginald VelJohnson, playing characters in an 80's alternate reality dystopia. Join Dan “Grim” Shea, Marke., and the “Retro Cool Nerd” Jimmy Leszczynski as they unpack what it is to be a sci-fi movie and remember, poorly, a few of those “Silly Rabbit, Trix are for Kids” 80's catch phrases. This week we catch a movie, the San Diego Comic-Con way! Going back to the early aughts and our groups very first encounters with Comic-Con, there has always been one thing that you can count on to be great in every way… the DC Animated Movie Premiere! That's right, for many of us Comic-Con goers, the very first signs that comic books were about to hit the mainstream were watching those very same books, not just superheroes, leap from page to screen. This all started with the 2007 release of Superman: Doomsday a faithful adaptation of the Death of Superman event that saw the death and resurrection of the worlds greatest and 1st superhero. It was a glorious event that was celebrated with SWAG, exhibits, a world premier and panel. Since that awesome night, SDCC has seen many fan favs like, Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, Flashpoint Paradox, and The Killing Joke. So, let's look at SDCC's DC Animated Movie Premiere Nights through the lens of SDCC22 and the release of Green Lantern: Beware My Power with some of the movie's voice talent including AldisHodge (Black Adam), “Green Lantern John Stewart”, JimmiSimpson (Westworld), “Green Arrow”, JamieGrayHyder (Law & Order: SVU), “Hawkgirl”, BrianBloom, (The A-Team), "Adam Strange". Join Grim Shea, Marke, and Jimmy the Gent as they watch a comic book come to life in maybe the best way possible, with a SDCC crowd of fans who celebrate those themes of Saturday Morning TV!

This week we catch a ride on the Mystery Machine! Launched as a Saturday morning cartoon in 1969, writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears AKA “Ruby-Spears” created the original series “Scooby-Doo, Where are you!” for Hanna-Barbara Productions where it would go on to produce countless cartoon series spinoffs, animated and live action films. Zoinks, that's a tasty Scooby Snack! To help with our Scooby talk we have two Scooby-Doo universe guests, the embodiment of “Shaggy” Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo) and a voice of “Velma” Kate Micucci (Scrubs, Garfunkel and Oats) Actor Matthew Lillard first got our attention as the killer accomplice “Stuart” in the hit horror movie Scream. But what Matthew is synonymous for is as Scooby's two legged BFF “Shaggy”. He's the first actor to portray “Shaggy” in the 2002 live action hit Scooby-Doo (written by James Gunn) with the all star cast of Freddie Prince JR.Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardalini. Since that one-screen debut, Matthew has gone on to reprise his “Shaggy” in a live action sequel and voiced the character about 50 more times in various animated movies and shows. Comedian, actress and musician Kate Micucci has 154 IMDB credits. She's funny, cute as a button and plays a wicked banjo! Besides all that, she has voiced “Velma” 18 times going back to 2015 in various animated TV films and shows. Join Grim Shea, Marke, and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy The Gent to celebrate one of the greatest cartoons and CU's to have ever graced the small and large screens, Scooby-Doo!

This week we we remember, rehearse and reboot with guests Daphne Maxwell Reid and Michelle Danner. Everyone remembers Reid as an iconic TV mom of the 1990s, from her three seasons as "Aunt Vivian" on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Daphne is living proof that a passion for creativity and a dedication to hard work can ensure a lifetime's worth of success. And if that weren't enough… There aren't many people who can point to a career full of success as a performer, teacher, storyteller, entrepreneur, and expert. But Michelle Danner can. In honor of two milestone anniversaries and fully remastered Blu-ray box set releases, the crew at Saturday Morning Cereal return from their Fortress of Solitude with a SUPERsized episode with four SUPERsized guests including Smallville's “Clark Kent” and “Lex Luther” Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum and Superman The Animated Series' “Superman” and “Lex Luther” Tim Daly and Clancy Brown. Let your spirits be lifted up, up, up and away and join Grim Shea, Marke, and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy The Gent to celebrate these two amazing gravity defying shows and the impact they had on these mild mannered talk show hosts! Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we scoop up a very special episode of Saturday Morning Cereal with a sweet look at the Catwoman: Hunted (out now on 4k, Blu-ray & digital combo packs). Everyone's favorite felonious feline takes action, adventure and theft to new heights – and with an entrancing anime style – in Catwoman: Hunted, an all-new DC Animated Movie. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the jazzy pop film noir feature-length animated film is both visually striking and groundbreaking. Not only is Catwoman: Hunted DCAU's first Catwoman feature but it may also be the first superhero movie to ever present its lead hero Catwoman and co-lead hero Batwoman as LGBTQ+ characters without orientation being the focal point of the story. But the path to LGBTQ+ characters becoming ordinary, we come to learn, is a troublesome straight-line that traces all the way back to the ironic creation of Batwoman herself. Join hosts Grim Shea, Marke and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy “The Gent” as they celebrate this instant classic with three huge guest interviews including writer Greg Weisman (Young Justice, Gargoyles) and the cunning voices of Catwoman and Batwoman themselves, Elizabeth Gillies (Dynasty, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Vacation) and Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, In The Heights).

This week, we delight in the spirit of the season with a special Christmas episode, on Christmas day, including but not limited to A Christmas Story with our very special and gracious guest ZackWard. ZackWard has the unique flex of over 120 IMDB credits but few actors, even those as busy as Zack, ever reach “timeless classic” and Zack did it in his first movie, landing the role of “Scut Farkus” the ferocious yellow eyed bully and tormentor to Ralphie in the holiday classic A Christmas Story. If you don't know A Christmas Story, stop reading this and get out of here right now. Seriously. Go get caught up on the last 30 years of popular culture and then we'll talk... For the rest of you, please join hosts Grim Shea, Mark E. and Jimmy “The Gent” as they breakdown their favorite holiday movies and celebrate the fantastical holiday masterpiece, A Christmas Story, including input straight from the bully's mouth. Indeed, a Christmas miracle.

David joins us to promote his turn as “Calendar Man” in the DC animated movie Batman:The Long Halloween. Aaron Augenblick's credits touch stone in MTV's Daria and would go on to found Augenblink Studios in 1999. This week, we punch our tickets to the gun show with a big time hunky guest, Joel McHale. Beginning with his breakout role as the host of Talk Soup and his fan favorite role as “Jeff Winger” in the on again/off again hit series Community, Joel McHale was molded of pop-culture, nostalgia, comedy chops, a wicked awesome bod, thick hairline, a sardonic wit, impeccable timing and pecs. That's right, where mere mortals may play hard to get, Joel McHale plays hard to want, but want him we do. In a virtual sit down to spotlight the Warner Bros release of Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, our co-host, Jimmy The Gent (Bleed Cool, Retro Cool Nerd) talks to Joel McHale (Community, Talk Soup, Star Girl) about voicing the Hollywood star-turned-fighter Johnny Cage, the guy with the “Finish Him” move so spectacular, he's gotta wear shades. Join Grim Shea, Marke, Jimmy The Gent and Johnny Heck as they celebrate the exhilarating career of Joel McHale, the talk show host with with most! Based on one of the most popular videogame franchises in history, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms finds our team of heroes besieged by the enemy forces of Shao Kahn – forcing Raiden and his group of warriors into a deal to compete in a final Mortal Kombat that will determine the fate of the realms. The POWcast! is back again and aims to bring you a nostalgic look back at the movies, shows, and people from your childhood that made you who you are today. In Jimmy's case that was the Batman 66 TV show that inspired a never ending celebration of all things Retro, Cool, and maybe a little Nerdy. This episode features another in depth conversation with TV's Robin, Burt Ward (Batman, Back to the Batcave). Burt shares stories and memories from his harrowing days on the set of Batman, running into pilot director Robert Butler many over fifty years later, Adam using a teleprompter, his idea to continue the ‘66 universe, and whether or not he would play Robin again without Adam- and so much more. Fans of the Boy Wonder may have heard some of these stories before, but not like this. There's at least one new story you haven't heard in this chin wag. Jimmy gives Alfred the night off and uses the Bat Time Dilation Device himself and sets it back one2 week to his conversation with DC screenwriter Tim Sheridan (Batman: The Long Halloween, Masters of the Universe: Revelations) who shares how the show influenced his work. Plug in your favorite set of air pods and enjoy this dive deep into Batman theory with one of the most knowledgeable Bat- experts in the game in the latest exciting episode of the Retro Cool Nerd POWcast! This week join Dan "Grim" Shea, Marke, and Jimmy the Gent for a little retrospective on our memories regarding Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, released 40 years ago this month. 40. Years. Ago. George Lucas. Steven Spielberg. John Williams. Harrison Ford. Good lord. We wax nostalagic for one of the best properties from the 80's that was based on serials from the 40's which is planning a new release in the '20s. If that makes sense. We ask the heavy questions, such as: what's our favorite parts? Where did we first see this masterpeice? Was this really the inspiration for 2006's Snakes on a Plane? Is it okay to keep making more movies, or does this property belong in a museum? Plus we finally confirm that Indy's presence actually does matter in the movie, so now that issue is finally settled once and for goddamned all, ya heard nerd?! So why don't you crack a whip, pillage an ancient tomb, name yourself after a dog along with Grim, Mark, and Jimmy and relive the unforgettable exploits of world-renowned, globetrotting hero Indiana Jones in spectacular 4K Ultra HD when the INDIANA JONES 4-MOVIE COLLECTION arrives in a new 4K Ultra HD set from Lucasfilm Ltd. and courtesy of our friends at Paramount Home Entertainment, stick around for a chance to win the 4K UltraHD box set of all four Indiana Jones movies! Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we celebrate Star Wars May The 5th with a pillar of Star Wars composers, Kevin Kiner, of Star Wars The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and the NEW series, Star Wars The Bad Batch (now on Disney+). For this latest score on Star Wars The Bad Batch, Kevin is once again expanding what we consider “Star Wars music” by continuing to employ electronic music and synthesizers in his composing – a process he had used in his other scores for DC shows like 1988’s Superboy, Doom Patrol, Titans, and further experimented with in his now Annie Award-winning score for one of Star Wars greatest moments, The Clone Wars final season and episode, “Victory and Death”! But if his Star Wars and DC cred isn’t enough for you geeks and gamers, Kevin Kiner’s work plays like a pop-culture “Jock Jams” with such work on Stargate SG-1, Star Trek: Enterprise, Hell on Wheels, Transformers Robots in Disguise,NOS4A2, Making a Murderer, Jane the Virgin, Narcos: Mexico and a Saturday Morning TV connection going all the way back to Sid and Marty Kroft’s Land of the Lost reboot and DC Follies. Join Grim Shea, Marke, Johnny Heck and Jimmy the Gent as they sing a merry tune and celebrate a living legend all while Kevin Kiner dances around The Bad Batch spoilers.

In Jimmy’s case that was the Batman 66 TV show that inspired a never ending celebration of all things Retro, Cool, and maybe a little Nerdy. This episode is an in depth chat with one of ‘66 Batman fandom’s biggest names. Ben Bentley is not only Co- moderator of the Batman 66 Message Board he is, as we say, an expert’s expert. Ben shares tales of travel to LA and how his hobby grew into a passion. Not only logging but identifying all the shooting locations for each of the 120 episodes of the ‘66 Batman show. Quite a feat, but Ben is close to completion. Why does this show speak to so many generations of fans? Listen to Ben’s thoughts here. Once again the “Bat-Time Contrivance” is utilized and set for summer of 2017. The Summer of 2017 and the Comic Con Palm Springs. Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we take a sweet bite of horror comedy hijinks and movies so scary funny you might just pee a little. Since Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, horror comedies have walked the fine line between scary and funny. Fast forward 70 years and this sub genre is still riding strong all while achieving pop-culture cult status and success for their talent and creatives. Army of Darkness, Shawn of the Dead, and Zombieland are but a few relatively recent examples of the literally thousands of horror comedies to mention so to help us along this long, dark, winding and wacky road are guests Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!) and co-writer Jill-Michele Melean (MadTV) to announce, discuss and celebrate the release of their new movie Witness Infection (Avail VOD 3/30/2021). WitnessInfection tells the story of two rival mob families who are transferred from the Witness Protection Program to the same city by mistake. But the past is about to come back and bite them when a serious infection brought on by tainted Italian sausage turns casual diners into zombies and the small inland SoCal city of Temecula, into a hell scape of vomiting, farting, pus faced, brain eating monsters. Join hosts, Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy The Gent as they try to crack that code and find the funny in very strange places. You’ll laugh, you’ll scare, you’ll pee your pants a little.
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we take a musical journey with a discussion on the music movie biopics that have shaped the pop-culture. Joining us are Greg Naughton, Rich Price and Brian Chartrand of the real life band “The Sweet Remains” and of their fictional band and movie music bio-pic, The Independents, a musical comedy/drama about three solo-artists who collide at the same crossroads and discover harmony and their roller-coaster-ride journey across America for a one last shot at musical glory. In 1987 you saw a Tejano band Los Lobos with a toe tapping Lou Diamond Phillips in a music video for their #1 hit single, “La Bamba”, the biopic title track that was a cover of Ritchie Valens 1958 song that was really an old Mexican folk song. All this to say that music biopics leave a mark on pop-culture that music alone can’t reach and yet, it’s the music that makes those movies so memorable! Music biopics have been around since the invention of movie sound with the problematic The Jazz Singer and have been darlings of Academy Awards night ever since. Join Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy The Gent as they get to heart of it all… Music biopics are the link between pop-charts and pop-culture. This episode is sponsored by Paramount Home Entertainment and Lady Sings the Blues. Nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Actress for Diana Ross, Lady Sings the Blues captures the essence of Billie Holiday, one of Americas most loved blues singers and introduced the world to the amazing acting capability of Richard Pryor as “Piano Man”.
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we talk all about Noriyuki "Pat" Morita and the pop-culture impact of The Karate Kid’s Mr. Miyagi inspired by the documentary More Than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story with guests; director Kevin Derek and producer Oscar Alvarez. To Gen Xers, the year 1984 is a very special one. It was a pop-culture “big bang” that introduced the world to iconic characters including The Terminator, Gremlins and the Ghostbusters to name but a few. Among these IP behemoths is The Karate Kid and it’s mentor, father and karate master Mr. Nariyoshi Miyagi. “Mr. Miyagi” is one of the most important figures in pop culture as seen in toys, posters, t-shirts, Saturday morning cartoons of the 80’s and still today with the revival of the franchise in the Cobra Kai series and a popular meme/gif of a proud, watery eyed and smiling Mr. Miyagi that seems say “I’m sorry, I can’t hear over the sound of how awesome I am”. Join Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy The Gent as they wax on and on and on about the Oscar-nominated actor who overcame so much and left behind a legacy! About the film: The Oscar-nominated actor best known for his role of "Mr. Miyagi," left behind a painfully revealing autobiographical record of his much-too-brief time here on Earth, tracing his journey from being bed-bound as a boy to the bright lights and discrimination in Hollywood. Deep inside that sweet, generous, multi-talented performer seethed an army of demons, that even alcohol and drugs couldn't mask.

This week, we devote the whole show to a little old theme we call That One Guy!, which honors those actors from your favorite movies & TV shows growing up, whose name you can’t quite think of but you know who we mean… you know…THAT ONE GUY! Maybe you don’t know Rob Paulsen, but you know Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, “Raphael” & “Donatello on the original TMNT, G.I Joe, Transformers, and most of the other animated projects that Paulsen has been part of as a voice actor for nearly three decades. With over 2,000 (yes, that’s right) half-hour programs and dozens of films, video games, and other animated media to his credit, Rob Paulsen has been one of the hardest working, most in-demand, and most beloved voice artists in the industry, earning (so far) a Daytime Emmy and Peabody, 3x winning the Annie Award (for voice actors) and author of his memoir Voice Lessons. Hulu has just started airing all new episodes of Spielberg’s Animaniacs. The show which was introduced to millennials 30 years ago returns with original cast including Rob voicing "Yakko". All of this is to say that maybe you’ve never heard of Rob Paulsen. But you’ve heard him. A lot! And we’ve going to prove it to you... Join hosts Grim Shea, Marke, Johnny Heck and Jimmy The Gent as they get back to the roots of Saturday Morning TV and get to know the man behind some of the biggest voices in cartoon history who brings so much joy and passion to what he does.
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we reflect on one of the most important, memorable and influential eras in film history, the 1990’s. In a dramatic shift from the glorified violence of the 80’s action movie, the 1990’s evolved through the Tarantino cool violence, to the Mann brooding violence and finally the Spielberg valor of violence to highlight the absurdity of it’s glorification and remorse for Hollywood's comically high body counts. Yes, the 90’s were a great time to be movie goers and through it all, was our guest, Tom Sizemore who co-stared with some of the era’s all-time great actors and worked with the era’s best directors and writers for films including; TrueRomance, Heat and SavingPrivateRyan. Unlike their 80’s counterparts, the 90’s movies that we celebrate today don’t get nostalgic reboots or decades later sequels. But, because of the facilitating discussion that they inspire they do allow us to understand the violence, why it was performed and maybe uncover what could have been done instead. Whoa, that got deep! But, we are a show that celebrates the pop-culture that grew up with us and celebrate we will! So, put on some flannel, dust off those DVD’s and revel in thought with hosts, Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy the Gent as they take aim at 90’s cinema! Joining Tom Sizemore for the interview is writer, director and co-star CybilLake to discuss their movie, Central Park Dark, a one-night stand that turns into a never-ending nightmare.
The POWcast! is back and aims to bring you a nostalgic look back at the movies, shows, and people from your childhood that made you who you are today. In Jimmy’s case that was the Batman 66 TV show that inspired a never ending celebration of all things Retro, Cool, and maybe a little Nerdy. This episode expands the conversation a bit with someone that is a pretty big get for the humble POWcast. The twists and turns of the conversation deserve more than just his thoughts on Batman 66, But don’t worry he’ll get there. Wally, Dan, and Jimmy recorded this interview back during the dog days of summer and for various reasons, both in and out of the show's control, it has taken some time to put this episode together. Presented for your aproval, the voice behind Jon Arbuckle, Naratu, Family Guy, Almighty Tallest Red, and the Riddler voice actor extraordinaire, Wally Wingert. Once again the “Bat-Time Contrivance” is utilized and set it for Spring of 2017. A-lister Diedrich Bader stops for a brief, but heartfelt exchange regarding the season finale of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Helping pull all these thoughts into a cohesive thought is the co host from another mother Dan, the Grim Shea, So get comfy, plug in your favorite set of headphones and enjoy this dive deep into nostalgia with two of the most prolific voice actors in the latest exciting episode of the Retro Cool Nerd POWcast! The Music samples from “The Flying Horse Big Band, and the Batman Soundtrack by Nelson Riddle and Neil Hefti. "Adam West" (1989) was credited to Wally Wingert & The Caped Club. Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we get back to the Saturday morning basics… cartoons! What is it about that magical Saturday morning animation that took our attention, sparked our imaginations and created a popular culture that we celebrate today? The debate begins and to help us draw to a few conclusions we have an animation heavyweight in Aaron Augenblick founder of Brooklyn based Augenblick Studios, an independent animation studio. Notable productions include The Jellies!, Losers, UglyAmericans, ShortiesWatchin’ Shorties and WonderShowzen. Augenblick co-wrote and directed the 2007 short film GoldenAge, which was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Prize in the Ottawa Film Festival. To relax a little, Augenblick Studios animated two episodes in Netflix’s HeadspaceGuidetoMeditation series that takes viewers through the benefits and science of meditation and has now focused his attention to developing original content at HBO Max, Adult Swim, TBS, and PBS. He created the horror-comedy series DeathHacks for Snapchat, which debuted in Fall 2020 and has animated and produced the upcoming Adult swim half-hour comedy series TeenageEuthanasia that will premiere next year. Whoa, that’s a lot, so let's get to it! Join Grim Shea, Marke, Jimmy The Gent and Johnny Heck as they pay homage to cartoon greatness, Ruby-Spears and celebrate the cartoons that were, are and will be!
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we eat, drink and talk holiday movies and movies we watch at Christmas… See what I did there? Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Of course it is you dumb bastard but we go beyond that old debate and get into the evolution of the Christmas movie with an introduction to Fatman, the unapologetically Christmas movie with maybe the best trailer ever made and a hero that kicks ass, takes names and knows if you’ve been bad. So, be good or he’ll shoot you! As Christmas traditions go, many of us share in the very sacred practice of seeing a new movie for Christmas. Well, for at least one of our show hosts, 30 years ago, on December 25, 1990 that movie was The Godfather Part 3. Disappointment followed but with the help of our very good friends at Paramount we have a second chance with The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone the epic gangster saga with a freshly, albeit slightly, edited version of its final installment. To help pull us back in, we have exclusive”ish” audio w/the director, Francis Ford Coppola and stars Al Pacino, Andy Garcia. Join our merry band of hosts; Grim Shea, Marke, Jimmy The Gent, Johnny Heck and guest host Mike Fin as they get serious about nothing at all. The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is out NOW on streaming and physical media. Listen in episode to win a copy! Fatman is available NOW on streaming with physical media drop 1/9/21. Coming Of Age, Our 100th Episode! With 18 To Party Director Jeff Roda Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we “keep it a hundred” as we celebrate our 100th episode with a hostfull Skype call of Saturday Morning Cereal’s hosts and talk “coming of age movies”! 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the 2000’s teen movies all have a unique spin on what’s it like to grow up. What do they get right? What do they get wrong? What makes a “coming of age” movie? What generation best owns our imaginations? What teen archetype are you? For most of us, John Hughes movies where the template for the genre but does the optimism of those baby boomer era teen flicks hold up to todays standards? Our hosts will talk about it all and to help us with the heavy lifting, we interview Jeff Roda the writer/director of 18 To Party (released VOD 12/01/20), the 80’s high school drama with a killer sound track and a slice of life, period piece look at growing up in a world we may never grow to understand. Joining us for this jammed packed centennial celebration are Grim Shea, Marke., Slick McFavorite, Johnny Heck, Jimmy the Gent and the spirit of Holy Hobbits! The Retro Cool Nerd POWcast! aims to bring you a nostalgic look back at the movies, shows, and people from your childhood that made you who you are today. In Jimmy’s case that was the Batman 66 TV show that inspired a never ending celebration of all things retro, cool, and maybe a little nerdy. Episode 3 of the POWcast! features world renowned Joan Collins/ Siren expert J.P. Pelzman. We discuss Joan, The Siren, and look at the original “Wail of the Siren” script versus what was shot. J.P. is not only a Siren expert, he is an expert’s expert. Once again I lift the cover on the Bat phone and ring J.P. to take advantage of this font of knowledge. Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we bring you a cure for the Halloween at home “boos” with a primetime Halloween special. That’s right Cerealites, it’s time for our “cerealized" version of a Halloween Special: The 6th Annual Franken Berry Season Show: Now with More Evil! This year it’s all frights and laugh-out-loud delights with a spooky look back at comedy horror greats and stalk that very fine line between a good laugh and a bad scare. To help us along in this perilous journey we reach deep into the crypt and unearth SDCC 2017 & 2018 roundtable discussions with the creative talent behind IFC’s Stan Against Evil; John C. McGinley (Scrubs, Platoon) and Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Mystery Men). Plus, for extra torture, we conjure up an all new episode of Saturday Morning Cereal Playhouse “The General Mills Monsters”. Join Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy the Gent for a spooky look at the cooky movies and TV shows that bring a little light to otherwise dark times! Check us out, if you dare, at MattyPRadio.com and follow us to your doom @StayClassySDCC, @RetroCoolnerd, @sdBatman66
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week Grim Shea, Marke, and Jimmy the Gent sit down to discuss DC’s first dive into the interactive movie fray- Batman: Death In The Family The boys over at 3Palms Studios have gathered together once again to talk about the history of arguably the least popular Robin, Jason Todd. From his origins as the Dark Knight’s sidekick, to fans voting for his brutal death at the hands of the Joker, and the iconic Under The Red Hood, which leads us to our thoughts on Batman: Death In The Family. Just like in 1988 when you could call a 900 number to decide Robin's fate, now you can explore different fates for Jason. Decide if Jason dies, Robin cheats death, or Batman saves him, what happens to Jason is ultimately up to you. The Lads also share thier New York Comic Con 2020 chat (via virtual roundtable) with Producer/Director/Writer Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood), the voice of Bruce Wayne Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek), the voice of Jason Todd Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb), and Zehra Fazal (Young Justice) as the voice of Talia al Ghul. What will you do? Kill the Joker? Let him live? Run away and start your own boy band? To say much more about the actual movie might ruin it for you, but you can listen in as we chinwag about our favorite endings and why Jason Todd deserved better from DC. You say you want your own copy and don’t care what we think about it? Follow.Like.Retweet.@SDBATMAN66 or @StayclassySDCC and you might just win a copy.
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week the whole gang gets together to finally talk about Adult Swim's beloved epic adventure cartoon love letter, The Venture Bros! Join Grim, Marke, Jimmy the Gent, AND Johnny Heck all together again at last as they break down what The Venture Bros really represents to our generation and how it is living proof that growing up watching cartoons has unified us all. Oh, except that it just got cancelled. The only bright spot to come out of that tragedy is that it somehow magically reminded some of our less responsible interns that we've been sitting on an interview with creator and star Jackson Public from ComicCon 2018! LISTEN, as we break down all our favorites peices of this dense show, MARVEL as Johnny interviews Jackson Public (aka, longtime The Tick writer Christopher McColloch) about what was then the upcoming and is now the long-ago-aired final seventh season, STAND IN DISBELIEF as Marke and Johnny Heck try to justify this blasphemous oversight to Grim Shea, then FUTILEY SCREAM BACK AT US WHILE LISTENING TO THE SHOW about which great Venture Bros characters we forget to mention! Fight us about it @StayclassySDCC or mattypradio.com! Go Team Saturday Morning Cereal!
Hoops: A Profanity Joke Dream! with guests Jake Johnson, Ron Funches, Cleo King & Natasha Leggero Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we talk to and about the cast of Hoops, a raunchy cartoon that has really grown up with us! Not to brag, but just take a gander this week's stable of guests, each one so revered, so witty, so hip, so funny, so often-imitated-never-duplicated, these stars of the new hit animated show-- we got Jake Johnson (New Girl, Jurassic World), Ron Funches (Trolls, Harley Quinn), Cleo King (Hangover, Pineapple Express) & Natasha Leggero (Another Period, Dice)! If you need evidence that our generation still wants another cartoon that definitely ain't for kids, may we present Hoops from creator Ben Hoffman, out now wherever you get your Netflix. Even by grown up TV standards, this cartoon is seriously grown up. Homer Simpson circa 1990 would blush. There's your advisory. So as long you're adult enough to not get all worked up about a dumb cartoon, join hosts Dan "Grim" Shea, Marke, & Jimmy the Gent and let's go giggle at an onslaught of dick jokes together. Oh, and again, we got Ron Funches y'all! So you know we nerd out and get a little Funch Drunk. You would too, the man is a gem.
