Roots to Grooves

"Wavves" is an American rock band based in San Diego, headed by lead songwriter and front man Nathan Williams. The descriptor "band" may be one way to describe this outfit, but "project" may be more fitting, since the whole Wavves sound is created and spearheaded by lead frontman Nathan Williams, who is joined live on tour with various musicians.Nathan has had a turbulent history, battling drug addiction and his own internal demons, but none the less he has continued to forge ahead writing and releasing albums through "Wavves" that truly resonate with his fans.To listen to the full episode, including the featured music, visit... signlradio.com"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

Show notes and gallery: http://videogamegrooves.com/2020/10/30/episode-71-castlevania-rondo-of-blood-darkest-dungeon Emerging from the darkness and shadows of the night hours, an ominous figure looms. It moves like a vapor, with menace, and exudes a hunger--an unholy NEED--transfixing all who gaze upon it. It moves closer, too close for comfort and in a smooth but sinister voice, it rumbles "I vant to spin your winyl!" #podcastchillers Our newest podcast for the witching time of the year is replete with the sounds of the season! Jeremy and Anthony pair up to investigate the dark corners (so to speak) of vinyl, and we've made otherworldly contact with Castlevania: Rondo of Blood from Mondo! Believe it or not, we haven't covered this Castlevania record yet, but Anthony takes full advantage of the opportunity. We discuss how it may be a "pivot point" for the Castlevania series in a few ways, and Jeremy has a hard time tearing his eyes off the album art. When he does, he decides to lead us through the Darkest Dungeon, from Ghost Ramp. This one is a multimedia experience so be prepared with THIS LINK (https://www.artsy.net/artist/hieronymus-bosch) to experience the full effect of the severe music of Stuart Chatwood. We take some time out to discuss the "droning" (or amelodic) music of video games, and whether it really makes for a genuinely enjoyable listening experience, and whether it turns out to be a large part of the video game soundtrack experience, and how that relates to "hero" tracks or songs. We close out by updating you on the video game vinyl that demands your attention and money this week, as well as a few rumors to keep you tantalized and tormented. Your Video Game Grooves crew returns with new music to captivate and delight! In this episode, we are joined by Simon Jones of Minimum Records, to ride shotgun on our space-parkour journey through video games, vinyl records, video game music, and video game music on vinyl records. We begin, with somber yet adorable disposition, with Hollow Knight by Christopher Larkin and Ghost Ramp. This not-on-PS-Vita metroidvania roguelike has captured the hearts and imaginations of gamers across multiple platforms, including our own Anthony John Agnello. Anthony describes the game's style and vibe, and illustrates it with a couple of selections from the spooky-sad-cute score. Don't let any maggots near your records! We continue our high-speed topsy-turvy journey begins with Lightfield, from Minimum Records. This electronic, sometimes amelodic soundtrack by Zanshin, both challenges and enthuses us from a listening standpoint, and the presentation is oh-so-pretty! We explore the unique aspects of the game and the music it employs. Simon gives us a few insights into the production of this release and a few little details that make it special. We continue our discussion into the "omg now-time" of the gamemusicvinylverse, picking out some special releases of note, what's currently shipping, and what you should look forward to! Finally, we put Mr. Jones under the hot lights for a look at Minimum Records. This little indie label has some interesting beginnings, with a tie to one host's past! Simon tells us a little about his curation process, we ruminate on the "regionality" of record labels, and at the risk of his VERY LIFE, Simon lets us know one (and a half?) of his upcoming and heretofore unannounced releases. It's time to go for another spin through the world of video game music on vinyl! Pun totally intended! This time we're bringing some guests with us, as Tim Stoney and Wayne Strange from the Resurrection of the Night: Alucard's Elegy Kickstarter join us for the latest news and releases in video game vinyl, as well as listening to our newest featured albums! First, Jeremy takes us back to the distant past of the mid-90s with iam8bit's release of Rocket League, and the electronic dance stylings of the Mike Ault, Hollywood Principle et al. What are the challenges of an album full of "hero" menu music, and what is Tim and Wayne's surprising connection to the genre? Next, Anthony revisits the original Mondo Castlevania release, and we listen to one whole side of the 10" release (for the better and the worse). We recognize Kinuyo Yamashita and her career debut soundtrack, appreciating the music but also recognizing the troubles with that vinyl release. Finally, we segue into Materia Collective's Castlevania-themed "Alucard's Elegy" project, an orchestral and choral version of Symphony of the Night arranged by Tim and Wayne! How are the arrangements chosen? What kind of music is actually being produced? And don't forget, a signed vinyl album is in the offing if the project funds by November 26, 2017, but don't wait for that date to decide! Go check it out! Congratulations to Cuphead competition winner Connor S., and thanks to everyone who participated in the giveaway! Thanks to TheReginaldProgram for the direct feed of Castlevania side A!
