The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD could be the best lens for APS-C cameras ever made. The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD could be the best lens for APS-C cameras ever made. It combines weather-resistance with fast autofocus and a lot of versatility. For the record, it's more or less a 24-120mm f2.8 equivalent zoom. And for any APS-C photographer, that's a dream. To boot, it's also incredibly small for what it is. While it feels fantastic on Sony cameras, some Fujifilm photographers might not necessarily want to use it. However, it's great on both camera systems. This review was updated June 27th 2022. A whole other section was created just for the Fujifilm variant. Pros and Cons Pros Small Weather sealed Under $1,000 Image stabilized Basically a 24-105mm at f2.8 Lightweight Cons Tamron is a beautiful diamond being wasted on the sad Ringpop that is the Sony APS-C camera system. What's Innovative About This? The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is the full-frame equivalent of a 26-105mm f2.8 lens. The depth of field will be around f4.2 in full-frame too. But the light gathering and true aperture will still be f2.8. This is the first time we've ever gotten a lens like this. Add onto all this the vibration compensation, sharp optics, and weather sealing features. Then realize that it's under $1,000. To me, this sounds like a no-brainer. It's a truly usable large range that photographers can use with confidence every day. Sigma has their 18-35mm f1.8 lens, but it's not as useable a range as this Tamron offering. For what it's worth, I think this lens is wasted on E Mount. Everyone fawns over the company's full-frame cameras. It has also come to Fujifilm X series. It could also even make the Nikon Z50 seem more useful. Gear Used We tested the Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD on the Sony a6600. We also used it with Profoto lighting. Tech Specs Specs are taken from AlphaShooters Lens construction: 16 elements in 12 groupsAngle of view (APS-C): 79゜55′-23゜00′Number of diaphragm blades: 9(Rounded diaphragm)Minimum aperture: F22Minimum focusing distance: 0.19m (7.5 in) (WIDE) / 0.39m (15.4 in) (TELE)Maximum magnification ratio: 1:4.8 (WIDE) / 1:5.2 (TELE)Filter size: φ67mmDiameter: 74.6mmLength: 119.3mm (4.7 in)Weight: 525g (18.5oz)Accessories: Flower-shaped hood, Lens caps included Ergonomics The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is a moderately sized lens. I say this because it depends a lot on the situation you're in. But overall, it's simple to use thanks to the construction. You can see above that the only controls are a large zoom ring and a small focusing ring. The exterior is made of plastic. However, the lens doesn't feel like a bad, plasticky lens. It's a ways better than anything Rokinon has made. When fully zoomed in, the lens also doesn't become much larger than it is. And that's really great for real-life use. Of course, that also means that it isn't an internally zooming lens. Build Quality Make no mistake; the Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is a massive lens for an APS-C camera. But overall, it's still smaller than a Canon 50mm f1.2 RF prime lens. It's also far lighter. The lens is built solidly. It's a plastic body that doesn't feel cheap at all. Tamron is a specialist at constructing lenses like this. There are also nice rubber rings for grip. Of course, this lens is also weather-resistant. We're confident that it will outlast the Sony bodies it was designed for. Overall, this lens is built to be the only one you need. It's lightweight and fairly small. Stuff it into a camera bag slot, and you'll be good to go. Again, Tamron has built one of the most perfect lenses for APS-C cameras. It's again a shame it's being wasted on a format that I don't think sees its future in APS-C. Ease of Use Slap the lens on the camera, point, focus, and shoot. That's all there is to it. The lens has vibration compensation built-in, which translates into better hand-holding at slower shutter speeds. And if you're l...

Having clearly defined design services is paramount to running an efficient and organized business.   It not only helps you get clear on the details such as the deliverables, the investment, and the timeline, but it also helps you to talk about your services to your clients with clarity and confidence.    And let's be honest, confidence is what we're after here right?    You can also use the details to help you put together those very important client deliverables such as your Services & Investment Guide or your welcome package.  In this episode we answer questions like… Have you ever struggled to explain the differences in your interior design services to potential new clients?  Do you have a clear picture of the benefits and results of each service and what type of client might be the best fit?  Do you sometimes wonder if you have enough offerings? Or - more likely - offer too many services?  Does everyone on your team know and understand the differences in your services?  Here's a glance at this episode… [03:00] I dive into the importance of documenting and organizing the details of the services you offer and why it's important that everyone on your team has a clear way to access and use this information. [05:05] How to name your service (quick tip: keep it simple!) [06:40] I talk about how to describe each service, what it entails, and how to clearly define what you are offering. I also discuss how to lay out what is NOT included, how you will communicate with your client and how you will make sure this is all clear from the start. [13:20] I share how to plan out timelines for each project and set up timeframes for the design services you will be offering.  [16:13] How to set up your terms for your different offerings. Minimum fees, travel times,  and how to book your services.   Resources mentioned in this episode:  Free Guide - Define Your Interior Design Services Worksheet Episode #2 - 5 Types of Interior Design Services to Consider Offering   Canva Templates - www.designersoasis.com/shop Dubsado - 20% off First Month or Year with code designersoasis20  (Affiliate)  Hey designer! 196: Creating and Documenting the Procedures in your Design Firm WITH Owen McGab Enaohwo   With me on the podcast today is Owen McNab Enaohwo. Owen is the CEO and Co-founder of SweetProcess, an easy-to-use software that enables company executives and their employees to collaborate together to quickly document and/or improve their standard operating procedures, processes, and policies. We will dig in to where to start, how to monitor and improve processes and how to engage your team in the collaboration.    Topics Mentioned: Recurring tasks Continuous improvement Minimum viable procedure Collaborative approach Key Thoughts: Because we're at home, I think companies are even more open to the idea to outsource and to work collaboratively. Or even if you're not outsourcing, we're not necessarily beside each other anymore in the same way. So, we have to find some way to get that information. Michele (8:17)    People think that you have to have all the instructions and everything. I'll say, get rid of that thought, because the most important thing is to have the mindset that it is going to be a continuous improvement thing. You're going to collaborate with your employees, or your staff, or your contractors who are working with you to build this. Owen McGab Enaohwo (11:06)    I have documented the minimum viable procedure or version 1.0 of this task. Now let's go ahead and collaborate to fill out the details. With software like Sweet Process, we enable that collaboration back and forth. What happens is you can have your employees passively go into the software and start adding to the process. Owen McGab Enaohwo (12:34)    If we think about it, in all of our businesses that do design, what is the minimum design that we need to do to meet the need of the client? Everything else is a layering process. Michele (17:19)    Whomever you hand that process off to, will become the owner of that work, and hopefully, improve that process and change that process, which means that the process that I handed off might not be the process I get back in two or three years, it's going to be much improved. But I am trying to reduce my brain space so that I can work on something else. “Find ways to give vocal minorities opt-out mechanisms where they can have some of the land use rules that they want, but they don't get to drag the whole city down with them.” That's one of Nolan Gray's primary lessons from the success of minimum lot size reform in Houston, and a prescription for land use reform more generally. Houston's reform, which took place in 1998, reduced the minimum parcel size for new homes from 5,000 to just 1,400 square feet per unit, and it's produced tens of thousands of low-cost townhome-style houses in the city's “inner loop.” It also allowed individual neighborhoods to opt-out of the reform, creating a political context in which reform could move forward. Gray, a doctoral student at UCLA and author of the new book, Arbitrary Lines: How Zoning Broke the American City and How to Fix It, joins us to talk about the lessons we can learn from the famously unzoned city of Houston, and the promise that minimum lot size reform holds for improving affordability and giving residents more choice in how they live their lives.

More than 130 nations are working toward an agreement to ensure that multinational corporations pay a minimum level of income taxes. The second of two “pillars” in this framework would ensure that the world's largest and most profitable companies are taxed in each jurisdiction in which they do business at an effective rate of 15%. Since any rate less than 15% would make the corporation subject to a top-up tax to reach that level, there are concerns about how U.S. general business credits–including the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC), historic tax credit (HTC), new markets tax credit (NMTC) and renewable energy tax credits (RETCs)–would contribute to lowering effective tax rates below 15%. In this podcast, Michael Novogradac, CPA, and Novogradac partner Brad Elphick, CPA, discuss the global minimum tax and issues associated with it concerning tax credit equity. They discuss how and when potential guidance would affect tax equity investments, potential approaches to mitigate the damage to tax equity investments, how the equity investment exclusion approach would work, how the proportional amortization and HLBV approaches fit, the joint venture rule and portfolio shareholdings. The conclude with the next steps that stakeholders in community development tax incentives should take.

In 1996, 16-year-old Almeer Nance was an accomplice in an armed robbery in Knoxville, Tennessee during which 20-year-old Robert Manning shot and killed a worker. Despite the fact that Nance didn't commit the murder, he was convicted of felony murder and sentenced to a minimum of 51 years in prison under Tennessee's strict mandatory minimum laws. The other accomplice in the case, a white woman, only spent one year in prison for her involvement in the robbery. For "51 Years Behind Bars," a new documentary from Al Jazeera English's "Fault Lines," correspondent Josie Duffy Rice and producer Jeremy Young interviewed Nance and other people connected to his case to learn more about the consequences of his lengthy sentence. The Takeaway spoke with Josie Duffy Rice about this reporting and how it coincides with recent developments in juvenile sentencing.

Growth and monetization are at the top of every podcaster's wish list. At least every podcaster who's yet to achieve those two things. Or perhaps not at the level said podcaster is happy with for their own show. Buzzsprout aims to change the growth and monetization question with a new product they've just released called https://evoterra.link/buzzsproutads (Buzzsprout Ads.) And interestingly enough, they're tackling both of those challenges—growth and monetization—with the same solution. A solution built for indie podcasters of all sizes. Alban Brooke, Head of Marketing at Buzzsprout, thinks the new service is a great way for indie podcasters to get massive reach with promos for their podcast. And he says it's a great way for Buzzsprout podcasters to monetize their podcast. Buzzsprout Ads is pretty clever, with a dead-simple signup process for would-be promoters (like me!) On the other side, their system intelligently analyzes all episodes of a podcast to find just the right mid-roll spot. And yes, the podcaster can adjust those. How does it get scale from smaller indie podcasters? Because it's inserting ads into the entire catalog of episodes, not just the most recent. Long tail, FTW!  CPM is set at $20 and the podcaster makes 70% of that. Minimum buy for promoters is currently $100. And yes, I have ads running right now. Let me know if you hear them on another podcast about podcasting!  And if you want to try it for yourself, go to https://evoterra.link/buzzsproutads (buzzsprout.com/ads) and give it a shot for your own podcast. Let me know how it goes. Full disclosure, Buzzspout is the Branded Benefit Spnosor of this episode. Imagine being a kid who loved music, who'd been brought up with jazz literally in his blood, graduating college, then, instead of heading into a “responsible” adult job like all your friends, opening a record store in the heart of Seattle at a time where the neighborhood musicians, the ones who'd hang out all day and talk about all-things-music, also just happened to be budding icons who'd go one to become scions in the industry, forming bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sound Garden, and so many others. This is just one season in the extraordinary life and career of today's guest, Nabil Ayers. Now, years into a powerhouse career in music, he heads-up of one of the most iconic labels in the business, one, in fact, he fell in love with as a young kid. Growing up mixed-race, Jewish and Black, in NYC in the eighties, with a father who was a legendary jazz musician, but also entirely absent from his life, Nabil's mom and uncle made sure to surround him with music, musicians and other quirky characters. And, that seeded a passion not just for music, but also for the culture, the stories, and eventually the business of helping artists grow and thrive. Along the way, Nabil also found himself becoming a storyteller. Both, of his own narrative, and of the many artists he'd champion and help introduce to the world. And, well into his career in music, Nabil began writing about music, his own life and story, and race for publications including The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, GQ, and The Root. Ayers is the President of Beggars Group US, a music label where he has released albums by many GRAMMY Award-winning artists such as The National. His new memoir, My Life in the Sunshine: Searching for My Father and Discovering My Family is about his journey to connect with his musician father, Roy Ayers, and ultimately re-draw the lines that define family and race.
