Marcus dives into MIO: Memories In Orbit, a new Metroidvania that might be Hollow Knight-levels of difficult. Eric, meanwhile, has been testing his mental mettle with TR-49, Inkle's new mystery game that tasks players with tearing their way through a strange machine. The Game Informer Show is a weekly podcast covering the video game industry. While DC has just discovered the greatness that is Hollow Knight, he now understands the hype behind the sequel, Silk Song, which has just been released. Another game that seems to have Darius excited is the new James Bond game, which heavily draws cues from the Hitman series. The game seems to have a good mixture of action, stealth, and problem-solving as you make your way through each mission.
Game stories fade.Graphics age.But the music? That stays forever. In this episode of Co-op Chronicles, Blacklabel is joined by Geisha and Azzilee to talk about the music that defined our favorite games and why soundtracks often leave a deeper impact than story or gameplay ever could. Although, we rant majority of this episode off topic, so bare with us please!!! From the emotional weight of Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Chrono Trigger, to the pulse-pounding energy of DOOM and Cuphead, to modern standouts like Hades, Persona, Hollow Knight, Skyrim, and Expedition 33, we break down how game music shapes memories, identity, comfort, and adrenaline. This isn't a ranking. It's a reflection.Because years later, it's the music that brings us back.

In this episode of Pixelated Playgrounds, Bryan, Josh, and Clint finally arrive in Pharloom and dive deep into Hollow Knight: Silksong. We all fell in love with Hollow Knight when it launched in 2017 and even covered it on the show back in 2019, making Silksong a long-anticipated return. Team Cherry—Ari Gibson, William Pellen, and Jack Vine—have come a long way since the original Kickstarter, and Silksong's journey from planned DLC to full sequel reflects a uniquely protracted and unconventional development cycle. Just as notable is the team's decision to remain intentionally small, preserving creative control, efficiency, and passion while collaborating with key contributors like composer Christopher Larkin to elevate the experience.Silksong represents a major shift from its predecessor, most notably through Hornet, a fully voiced and evolving protagonist whose presence reshapes both narrative and gameplay. The game emphasizes speed, verticality, and tool-driven combat, with Pharloom's design flipping Hollow Knight's downward descent into a constant upward climb. We dig into the game's layered storytelling—Hornet's personal arc, the history of Pharloom and its people, and the larger cosmic forces at play—alongside its thematic focus on song, memory, and organized religion. Along the way, we debate difficulty, movement quirks, crest builds, boss design, and the shard system for tools. We also discuss Silksong's ambitious three-act structure, multiple endings, and whether it not only lives up to the original Hollow Knight. So join us as we close out the year exploring Team Cherry's world of bugs, beasts, beauty, and bosses.Three Word Reviews:Bryan - Smooth as SilkJosh - Flight in FightClint - Solid Send Off

In this final episode of 2025, Trevor and Jeff wrap up their year-long experiment: The "No New Games" Challenge. We break down whether we succeeded in clearing our backlogs or if we just stopped playing altogether. We also dive into the chaos of Christmas morning—from the quantity vs. quality gift debate to why one dad opted for a retro handheld emulator over a PS5. Plus, we discuss the "dark side" of kids' gaming in 2025, including why Robloxfinally got banned in the household, the surprising rise of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) among teenagers, and why Chess is making a comeback. Whether you are a dad trying to manage screen time or a gamer staring at an intimidating Steam backlog, this episode is for you. Topics Covered: The Christmas Haul: Why we bought retro handhelds and "dumb" smartwatches instead of current-gen consoles. The Cookie Experiment: Why kids prefer 10 small gifts over one expensive one (Funko Pops vs. PS5). Kids Gaming Trends: The rise of Fortnite, the fall of Roblox, and the wholesome return of D&D and Chess. The Challenge Results: How replaying Elden Ring, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Hades 2 changed our gaming habits. Gaming Fatigue: Why having "no new games" was actually a relief for our anxiety. "Every canvas is a journey all its own.” – Helen Frankenthaler Gaming host Ace dives deep into Constance, a hand-painted 2D Metroidvania that blends precise Celeste-like platforming with Hollow Knight-inspired exploration. We were provided a review key by the developers, but this is not a sponsored review all thoughts are honest and our own. Constance follows the journey of a paint-brush-wielding artist trapped in a decaying inner world shaped by her mental health. Alex and Luke Talk Hollow Knight and Silksong. The duo dive into a Metroidvania double‑header: first the seminal Hollow Knight (Team Cherry, 2017) and then its long‑awaited sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong (Team Cherry, 2025). We unpack the evolution of the form — bug‑infested kingdoms, needle‑wielding protagonists, soaring difficulty curves — while comparing how the first game laid the groundwork and Silksong raised the bar (and the anguish). Two games, one legacy, endless edge‑of‑your‑seat platforming. Hollow Knight earned a Metacritic score of 87 on PC and 90 on Switch. HowLongToBeat estimates place a standard full play‑through around 27 hours (main story) and up to ~65 hours for completionists. Silksong debuted with a Metacritic score of 91 (PC), classified under “universal acclaim”. Play time estimates suggest around 40‑45 hours for a meaningful run, with full completion pushing closer to 60 hours+. All in all, two hefty games that demand stamina, precision, and a willingness to die… a lot.Alex tackled Hollow Knight on his Nintendo Switch OLED, while Luke jumped into Silksong on his Steam Deck. Luke's no stranger to the first game — he's beaten Hollow Knight before — but neither of them rolled credits this time around. Along the way they compare platform experiences, controller feel, and how each game's difficulty and structure landed differently for each of them. This episode is unofficially brought to you in part by bein' fat bs who can't stop eating the rest of our Halloween candy.Send us a Text Message!
