Hello Libration Nation! I'm thrilled to welcome Sarah Glenn Marsh to this week's episode as we uncover the wonders of "The Last Ranger" by Peter Heller. A thrilling exploration of nature's beauty and human empathy, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. And we've paired it with the citrusy and daring Lone Ranger cocktail—tequila, lemon, and a hint of rose—capturing the essence of adventure. Sarah Glenn Marsh has been an avid fantasy reader since the day her dad handed her a copy of The Hobbit and promised it would change her life. She believes we all deserve happy endings and is an author of books for everyone, including many young adult, middle grade, and picture book titles. She lives in Richmond, Virginia with her family, including one sweet daughter, one slightly dull sword, and the chaos of many pets, like a turtle named Muffin who she definitely did not bring back from any haunted swamp. We Could Be (Anti)heroes is her first adult novel and will be coming out Spring 2026. And hey, before you go—if you're loving Drinks in the Library, can you do me a favor? Drop a quick review, hit us with some stars, and most importantly, tell two friends this week. Sharing is caring, and it helps us keep the good times rolling. The Anthony Mackie-led vehicle, which is the fourth Captain America film and 35th MCU film overall, managed to exceed somewhat meager box office projections, however, its reception with both critics and audiences isn't as definitive a victory. The film is currently sitting at 51% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has earned a B- CinemaScore, which is among some franchise lows for Marvel.According to exclusive reports from Deadline, the Mike Flanagan-penned, solo Clayface film seems to be on track to meet its targeted September 2026 release, with DC leadership set to hear pitches from potential filmmakers next week. Two noteworthy names rising to the top as candidates to helm the rumored horror-tragedy include Speak No Evil's James Watkins and Truth or Dare's Jeff Wadlow – with the expectation that casting will quickly follow suit once a director is locked-in. James Gunn has described the film as a DCU project, but it is still unclear whether it will connect to any existing projects or continuity. Christopher Nolan's next film for Universal, The Odyssey, has assembled an understandably stacked cast that includes the likes of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o and Jon Bernthal to name a few; now Mia Goth has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, while Matt Damon's role has finally officially been revealed to the title of role of Odysseus as announced via a photo shared from the film's X account. The retelling of Homer's epic poem is slated for a July 17, 2026 release. Universal has debuted the first full trailer for the live action remake of How To Train Your Dragon ahead of its June 13 release.Hulu released a first-look teaser for the final season of The Handmaid's Tale, premiering with three episodes on April 8, followed by weekly releases until the May 27 finale. Meanwhile, the sequel series The Testaments has cast Chase Infiniti to star alongside returning Handmaid's Tale veteran Ann Dowd.Six-time Emmy winner John Lithgow is in final negotiations to portray Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO‘s high-profile series adaptation of the Harry Potter books, sources tell Deadline.Ridley Scott's dystopian thriller The Dog Stars is adding to its cast, with Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce in final talks to join Jacob Elordi. Written by Mark L. Smith, the film adapts Peter Heller's 2012 apocalyptic novel for 20th Century Studios.Prime Video has confirmed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season, set to film this spring. The new season will feature a major time jump, unfolding during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron as the Dark Lord forges the One Ring.Peacock has released the first teaser trailer for season 2 of Twisted Metal, starring Anthony Mackie. The series will return this summer.Deadline's sources say Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms. Shawn Levy, Hasbro Entertainment, and showrunner Dave Crevello are producing the project.Warner Bros. has hired Potsy Ponciroli to write a sequel to the 1985 film The Goonies, with Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus returning as producers. The project has no director attached yet.Deadline has learned that Denis Villeneuve is currently planning to film Dune 3 this summer and a team has been in pre-production on the film for quite some time. Jason Momoa Cast as Lobo, The Batman II Will Film This Year, 2025 Golden Globes

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Last week, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Jason Momoa, the actor who famously played the title role in the billion-dollar grossing Aquaman film, has signed on to portray the character Lobo in the upcoming DC Studios film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa, no stranger to Warner Bros or DC, has long been campaigning for the role of the intergalactic biker bounty hunter who first debuted in comics in 1983. Elsewhere, filmmaker Matt Reeves, broke his silence on The Batman II delay situation while attending the Golden Globes this weekend, saying, “I can tell you that we'll be shooting this year. We're doing something where the story continues from, but I hope that people will be surprised by.” During a recent interview with GQ, Andrew Garfield, the Amazing Spider-Man himself, dispelled rumors that he has signed on to reprise his role in the upcoming fourth Marvel Studios' Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film. Ever self-aware, the actor acknowledged the weight his objections hold, given his track record, having been in the exact situation prior to No Way Home's release, saying, “I'm gonna disappoint you - Yeah, no. But I know no one's gonna trust anything I say from now on.”  We might be light on Marvel news this week, but Sunday evening's 82nd Golden Globes Awards ceremony saw many an MCU friend and foe in attendance. Kathryn Hahn was nominated for her role in Agatha All Along, Sebastian Stan was twice nominated and won once, and Captain America Brave New World stars, Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford took the stage to present an award, as did MCU alumni Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum. Now that you got your Marvel fix, let's talk about some winners and snubs: on the TV side of things, the winners circle featured usual suspects – FX's Shogun and The Bear, still being awarded as a comedy despite the protests, Max's Hacks, and newcomer Baby Reindeer from Netflix snagging a couple of wins. Also worthy of note: Colin Farrell, narrowly avoiding a snub, took home the sole award for HBO's The Penguin. Netflix and A24 ruled the evening as far as film is concerned, with Emilia Perez and The Brutalist being highly awarded, although Wicked refused to be relegated to the sidelines, taking home the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award. Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King led the first weekend of the new year with $23.8 million domestically, reaching $476.4 million globally. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 followed closely with $21.2 million in the U.S. and a worldwide total of $336.3 million. Tom Holland and Zendaya are engaged – as revealed by the ring she wore during the Golden Globes Red Carpet Peacock is developing a film reboot of the 2011 NBC series Grimm, with Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman writing and executive producing alongside the original show's co-creators and showrunners. HBO has released a new short teaser trailer for The Last of Us season 2 and confirmed that the series will begin streaming in April. Sony has announced a movie adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures, the studio behind 2022's Uncharted. While no release date has been set, the film will bring Guerrilla Games' post-apocalyptic adventure starring machine hunter Aloy to the big screen. Jacob Elordi is in early negotiations to replace Paul Mescal in Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars. Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson wrote the script for the 20th Century Studios film, which adapts Peter Heller's 2012 apocalyptic novel of the same name. Disney+ has greenlit a pilot for a TV series adaptation of Louis Sachar's beloved novel "Holes." The project follows in the footsteps of Disney's 2003 film version of the book, though no further details about the potential series have been revealed yet.

“… tied up at the pier was this all-black pirate ship with the Jolly Roger flag at the bow. It was menacing as hell, and I walked up to the superstructure, and there on the on the outer bulkhead, was all these skulls and crossbones. They were the names of all ships these guys had sunk or rammed on the high seas.” In 2005, adventure journalist and best-selling novelist Peter Heller, spent six weeks on board the eco-pirate ship Farley Mowat, fighting the Japanese whaling fleet. Led by Captain Paul Watson, the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, their mission was to disrupt, ram or sink the harpoon boats and factory ships that hunt and kill hundreds of whales each year. Some people called them eco-terrorists, others hailed them as heroes. Battling Class 7 and 8 gales, and 35-foot-high seas, this is their story. You'll have to make your own mind up. Mindset, Message, Method: A Roadmap to Nonprofit Fundraising Success

The Nonprofit Show

A winning fundraising strategy requires nonprofits to align their mindset, clarify their message, and consistently apply methods that prioritize donor engagement and community impact. Fundraising expert Peter Heller joins co-hosts Julia Patrick and Sherry Quam Taylor, to explore the essential "Three M's for Fundraising Wins": Mindset, Message, and Method. Peter, CEO and Founder of Heller Fundraising Group, emphasizes the importance of mindset in fundraising, beginning with, "If you don't think your nonprofit is worth it, then it's time to pack up or get a new job." According to Peter, nonprofit teams often struggle with self-doubt and limiting beliefs that can dampen their fundraising potential. Sherry adds that, "Mindset isn't 80% of the battle—it's everything."The trio then explore the "Message" aspect. Peter advises nonprofits to focus on the positive future they aim to create for their community, rather than portraying themselves as the hero of the story. This strategy, he explains, fosters deeper donor engagement. He says, "Your nonprofit is simply the catalyst or vehicle for positive community change." Finally, the 3 discuss the "Method," where Peter advocates for a structured, year-long approach to fundraising. He stresses the importance of diverse fundraising methods, saying, "It's not about just one big gala or campaign but engaging major donors consistently every month." This organized approach allows nonprofits to maximize their impact while avoiding common pitfalls, like over-relying on event planning instead of donor relationships.Find us Live daily on YouTube!Find us Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits! 12:30pm ET 11:30am CT 10:30am MT 9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

We're just talking really fast about: - "Factory Summers," by Guy Delisle. Sam's daughter gave him this graphic novel and it is properly obscure and entertaining. It doesn't smell bad, even though it's about papermaking. - "Full Speed to a Crash Landing," by Beth Revis. It's sorta like the Murderbot series, but without the body count, and the first in a trilogy.  - "The Lodge," by Kayla Olson. Sam's reading cosy romances about skiing. There isn't even any sex. It's "set" at Stowe, but it's unclear whether the author has ever been to Vermont (but Sam is wrong that there is, indeed, a gondola at Stowe. Sorry).  - "Death at the Sign of the Rook," by Kate Atkinson. The new Jackson Brodie book! He's in his 70s now, but doesn't play pickleball.  - "The River," by Peter Heller. Hannah's been talking about how amazing Peter is. Sam had to investigate. It's really, really good. The hype is true.

Sam is well outside his comfort zone this week, with a read of his first Nicholas Sparks book (it's not terrible!), and a GMA Book Club pick. Hannah's got an early line on the new Sally Rooney. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Here's what's on tap: - "Counting Miracles," by Nicholas Sparks (lots of Bible stuff!) - "Intermezzo," by Sally Rooney (it's "very excellent," if imperfect — everyone thinks the same) - "The Light Pirate," by Lily Brooks-Dalton (a strong climate disaster novel) - "Burn," by Peter Heller (it's a Maine book, turns out Sam's wrong and out-of-staters do get 8% of moose hunting permits; still don't think Maine's going to secede) - "Westfallen," by Ann and Ben Brashares (some dark-ass stuff for middle readers) - "The Serviceberry," by Robin Wall Kimmerer (here comes some anti-capitalism!) If you liked "Braiding Sweetgrass," you won't be disappointed in Robin's latest.

Which novels would you recommend to give someone an honest view of what Denver is really all about? Because this sure ain't the dusty cowtown of Louis L'Amour's dime store Westerns, and it's not just a way point for another adventure in the wilderness either. One of Denver's most acclaimed novelists, Peter Heller, has a new book out this month, and he recently wrote a “literary road guide” to Denver for The New York Times, featuring a wide range of novels about our city. Dock sitting for the July 4 extended weekend means we've got books to talk about! Hannah pulled Peter Heller's "The Guide" off the camp shelves and found herself thinking, "the writing is so insanely beautiful." Pretty high praise. Heller even makes fly-fishing enthralling — she read it in a day. Meanwhile, Sam was consumed for multiple days with Lev Grossman's brand-new "The Bright Sword," a new take on the Arthurian legend that runs a thousand pages or so, but still reads quick. If you're a "Magicians" fan, you'll love this — even if things are getting more and more earnest nowadays.  Next up is "Trust Her," a follow up to Flynn Berry's "Northern Spy," a domestic story of the IRA in the 1980s. Hannah loved the first book; this one could have gotten started a little quicker. Sam had no such qualms about "Banal Nightmare," an early candidate for his favorite book of the year. Dang, it's funny. Halle Butler can bring it. Hannah is less enthused by "One of Our Kind," by Nicola Yoon, which just was too predictable and familiar to land, despite great sentence-level work. Hanif Abdurraqib's "There's Always This Year," on the other hand, is an important work you probably need to read right now if you're interested in explorations of Black culture. Sam loves it. So much to chew on this week!

Fundraising And Nonprofit's Self-esteem

A compelling discussion into the intriguing territory of self-esteem within nonprofit organizations, with Peter Heller, CEO of Heller Fundraising Group.  Drawing on his extensive experience in fundraising consultancy, Peter articulates how intrinsic self-esteem is to a nonprofit organization's ability to effectively raise funds and make an impact. Watch on Video!Peter starts by emphasizing the importance of an "abundance mindset" to create and sustain prosperity within nonprofits and the communities they serve. He says, "We believe it's really important to try to address [challenges] from an abundance mindset," indicating how this philosophy influenced the very logo of his company—a symbol of infinite money flowing from an infinity sign, representing endless possibilities and financial sustainability. The key insight from Peter revolves around the concept of nonprofit self-esteem, which he believes is often overlooked yet vital for organizational success. He shares, "Underneath why a particular organization can or can't raise the money it needs... somewhere is self-esteem of your organization—where do you think you are in the spectrum of things. Do you matter?" This notion reflects his belief in the foundational role self-esteem plays not just in personal realms but in organizational contexts as well. He also shares compelling anecdotes demonstrating how organizations diminish their own value by comparing themselves unfavorably to larger, more well-known entities. He powerfully advised one such group by stating, "Look at your database and your annual report. You actually do raise money, and you people around the table are giving money, so it's not true that nobody's going to support you because you actually already are." Continuing, he touches upon the broader implications of self-esteem during crises like COVID-19 and 9/11, suggesting that such periods should catalyze introspection and reaffirmation of an organization's essential role in humanity's future. He proposes that every individual within a nonprofit should be able to assert, "This nonprofit is crucial to the future of humanity," as a testament to its significance. You will find Peter's insights not only highlight the nuanced challenges faced by nonprofits but also pertain to the transformative potential of fostering strong internal self-esteem. This thoughtful conversation, with host Julia Patrick, serves as a critical reminder of the dynamic interplay between self-perception and organizational efficacy in the nonprofit sector.Follow us on the Twitter: @Nonprofit_ShowSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

In “The Guide,” Colorado author Peter Heller weaves a suspenseful tale centered on Jack, a young wilderness and fishing guide at an elite resort near Crested Butte. Things aren't quite as idyllic as they seem, though, and Jack finds himself questioning what he sees and hears at every turn. Heller joined City Cast Denver's Peyton Garcia for a conversation about his inspiration for the book, and what it was like writing a fictional story set during a pandemic — while actually experiencing the pandemic in real time.  NOTE: This interview originally aired in August 2021, and is back as part of our special summer book series.
