hi! in this episode I recap my thoughts about Maroon 5's Halfime Performance at Super Bowl LIII featuring Travis Scott, Big Boi, and Spongebob after rewatching and doing a little deep dive into what was going on with the NFL that year. tune in to hear where this stands in my ranking! xoxox B Socials: @boominwithbella YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@boominwithbella Apple Music Profile: https://music.apple.com/profile/bellalainez Spotify Profile: https://open.spotify.com/user/bellalainez?si=BhwlAIZCR4-MvylGkXC2xw&nd=1&dlsi=22c4890233e84916 Links: https://linktr.ee/boominwithbella
This week on The Higher Standard, we break down hotter inflation, Warsh's awkward Fed handoff, housing cracks, rising delinquencies, and why “resilient economy” may be the new “transitory.” Then we get into the big one: AI may be destroying the moat that terminal valuations are built on. If innovation moves so fast that no company can confidently project cash flows five to ten years out, venture capital math starts looking less like investing and more like praying with a spreadsheet. Also, apologies in advance: we had to silence the Big Boi interview with Kid Cudi due to a copyright restriction, which is tragic because Big Boi talking Pokémon deserved its own emergency Fed meeting.
This one's personal! Welcome to the second installment of our side by side series, where we pick 2 artists to compare and contrast, and create playlists that showcase their best work. The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony featured touching speeches from inductees Outkast and the White Stripes, which got us reflecting on how big of an impact these acts made on our young lives. We start off with the Julius-crafted Outkast playlist, which samples from almost every Outkast album, but also includes a solo Big Boi track that reunites the duo, along with a slick Raekwon verse. We share our album rankings and make the case for Big Boi in the face of people who focus solely on André 3000's undeniable greatness. Then we discuss Danny's White Stripes playlist, including tracks demonstrating why Jack White was a guitar hero for a 10-year-old Danny picking up the electric guitar. But crucially, this playlist also proves why Meg White's sense of timing behind the drum kit was key to the band's success.Playlists:Danny's Playlist: Spotify - YouTube - Apple MusicJulius's Playlist: Spotify - YouTube - Apple MusicSend us a text message! You can follow us here:InstagramTwitterTiktokCheck out our preview episodes to stay caught up with what we're listening to!Send us a message, we'd love to hear from you! Ready for action, nip it in the bud, we're never relaxin', this podcast is everlasting! In this episode, Rich has somethin' to say about OutKast, the Atlanta duo consisting of Antwon “Big Boi” Patton and André “3000” Benjamin, who conquered hip-hop in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s before quietly parting ways. The most fascinating characteristic of OutKast is the duality between Big Boi's extroverted, in-your-face gangsta persona and Andre's introverted, quiet philosopher poet persona, a contrast they thoroughly explore on their 1998 album Aquemini, whose title is a portmanteau of their astrological signs. The duo emerged from Atlanta at a time when Southern hip-hop was struggling to be taken seriously amid the dominant West Coast/East Coast narrative, and on this album OutKast proudly make an argument for themselves as masters of the genre with music that's both overwhelmingly colorful and layered with history and cultural subtext, all in a way that's distinctly Southern. So if you've been on the fence about getting into hip-hop, Aquemini may be the album that helps you get the hump up out your back now. In this exclusive interview, DJ Pup Dawg sits down with the legendary T.I. to discuss his monumental three-decade career and his philosophy on "earning the right to retire". The "King of the South" shares the profound meaning behind his final album title, Kill the King, reflecting on the responsibility of leadership and the importance of "killing the ego"—a concept fueled by a pivotal conversation with Outkast's Big Boi. Send a textA 308-pound prospect just clocked a 4.5 and we couldn't stop talking about it. That jaw-dropper kicks off a fast, funny ride through combine metrics, ten-yard splits, and what freakish athleticism says about training, leverage, and the stories men tell themselves about height, speed, and identity. From there, the barbershop energy takes over: who gets seen first at the club, why short kings win on timing and charm, and the unglamorous truth about backseat logistics and calf cramps. Then we crack open the vault. Childhood scents and number-three tubs. Dish soap bubble baths that itch for days. Strict house rules about curfews and never eating at someone else's table. It all sets the stage for the music canon: greatest remixes (Flavor In Ya Ear, Quiet Storm, Fiesta), best posse cuts, and a love letter to Southern hip‑hop's backbone—OutKast, Goodie Mob, UGK, So So Def, No Limit, and Cash Money. We make the case for Big Boi's underrated pen, dream of an OutKast Super Bowl in Atlanta, and admit that some albums never left rotation. Finally, we step into the arena where nobody agrees and everyone's right: the GOAT debate. Jay‑Z for longevity and blueprint-building. Eminem for surgical wordplay and sheer technicality. KRS‑One for foundational lyricism and live-fire mic control. The criteria—impact, consistency, quotables, innovation—change with every verse someone remembers by heart. We land the plane with weekend rituals: cord-cutting math, Apple TV thrillers, Prime sleepers, Netflix's latest, and a clutch snack rec that tastes like movie night should.Tap play for the jokes, stay for the arguments, and bring your list. Outkast's 2025 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should have been an unblemished triumph. Instead, it became a night of stark, jarring contradictions. In this episode, we deconstruct the ceremony that was split in two: the profoundly moving, authentic speeches versus the critically-panned, "hot mess" tribute medley that followed. We explore the emotional highs of the acceptance, from Donald Glover's powerful induction speech to Big Boi's "iron sharpens iron" salute and André 3000's tearful, "freestyled" reflection on their beginnings in "little rooms". Then, we dive into the core of the disaster: André 3000's "ghost in the room" decision to attend but not perform, watching the medley from the wings. We analyze how this created an impossible-to-fill void that doomed the guest performers.
In this episode, I am joined by Bruce to discuss more HipHop topics. We start off discussing why songs change up from the way you originally heard them when it comes to streaming. We then ask why artist re- record their music and release it. We then get into a conversation about Outkast induction into the rock ‘n' roll Hall of Fame, and why Andre 3K did not perform with Big Boi. We finish off with a debate: which era was more detrimental to overall society. Gangsta rap, or The Diddy shiny suit era? Beautiful instrumentals in the background. And we hope you enjoy this episode.

Percival—played by André 3000—is a quiet, introverted church pianist who dreams of playing bigger stages, and then there's Rooster, Big Boi's character, running the hottest speakeasy in town, the Idlewild club, dealing with gangsters and all the chaos that comes with it. It's a story about friendship, dreams, and survival —all set to an OutKast soundtrack in a glittering, dangerous Jazz Age world. Topics discussed:

Why are men often so childish and immature, and so impossible to change? Drawing on 35+ years as a music business executive, interviews with 100 ordinary men (and women), and his life as a husband, ex-husband, and father to three sons, best-Selling author Tom Sturges attempts to make men less confounding and a lot easier to live with in his new book MEN EXPLAINEDF, FINALLYOver his 35 years in the music business, Tom Sturges has signed and/or collaborated with all different variations of the male "species," including Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Big Boi and André 3000 (Outkast), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), 50 Cent, and Jon Bon Jovi. As a husband, ex-husband, and father to three sons, he has also lived and survived many "typical man" experiences. Through countless hours of golfing, watching football, drinking beer, and hanging out with the guys, Tom has discovered a whole lot of man truths, which he reveals in his totally unscientific, often hilarious, and sometimes startlingly wise new book, MEN EXPLAINED, FINALLY (Centimilla Press; October 7, 2025; ISBN: ISBN 979-8-89976-012-9, Hardback; ISBN 979-8-89976-011-2, Paperback; 239 pages). With tongue-in-cheek humor and a caveman-like commitment to the unadulterated truth, Tom Sturges lets women in on why men, generally speaking, think and act as if they are forever fourteen. Tom believes that women may gain some insights that lead to better relationships with the men in their lives. And men? Well, they might just develop some self-awareness... and a beard, if they want one. LOL. "While some of the fellas may rebuke me for what I've revealed, I think that none of them will disagree with the basic premise or foundational promise of this work," Tom asserts. "I would bet many of them don't even know this stuff about themselves, even though they enjoy the privileges of it every day."Organized in three parts, MEN EXPLAINED, FINALLY presents 45 essays, plus a few brief thoughts, on various topics related to Men (Part I), Men Compared to Women (Part 2), and Men and Women Getting Together (Part 3). At the book's core are two simple facts: Men are much more like other men than they would probably like to admit, and as noted before, Men are fourteen, forever. While a lot of people (okay, women) find men to be childish, immature, and often unwilling to make the slightest effort to grow up, Tom argues that maybe that's one of men's superpowers. And when women recognize that men bluff and bluster, and cling to beliefs in fate, luck, heroism, and love at first sight, it makes men so much easier to understand, accept just as they are, and love.Curious? Here's a taste of what Tom Sturges reveals: Men aim to please. "We love pleasing. We are, by and large, givers," Tom attests. But there's a catch: "We have to be asked nicely. It's a must. A request cannot sound like an order or a demand. Or worse, like some command."Men love forever. Men never forget the perfect thrill of a first crush or early love affairs. Trying to re-ignite an old flame? That's pure idiocy. "When it comes to old loves, men much prefer their memories to their realities," Tom notes. "There is a reason we call it 'Glory Days.'"Men compartmentalize. Why are men so good at putting messy stuff into boxes? For men, compartmentalization is a defense mechanism-a system for coping with life's complications and disappointments. "So," Tom advises women, "if a man has gotten lost in one of his boxes, be patient. Let him find himself again, on his timeline, not yours."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

In this week's episode of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive deep into the just-announced 2025 Class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With their usual mix of thoughtful analysis, historical insight, and a healthy dose of nerdy passion, the duo breaks down the list of official inductees and shares their thoughts on what each artist or contributor brings to the legacy of rock and popular music. The conversation kicks off with a celebration of long-overdue recognition, as they discuss the inclusion of Bad Company, Joe Cocker, and the energetic pioneer Chubby Checker. They reflect on the vocal power and emotional resonance of Cocker's performances, the timeless grooves of Bad Company, and Checker's role in shaping early rock dance culture.Next up, they shift to iconic voices and game-changers of the '80s and '90s. Cyndi Lauper and Salt N Pepa spark discussion on pop's evolution and hip-hop's expanding influence on the Rock Hall. OutKast's induction offers a springboard into the genre-defying brilliance of André 3000 and Big Boi, while Soundgarden's inclusion brings a reflective moment on grunge, Chris Cornell's legacy, and the band's impact on alternative rock. The duo also delves into the raw garage rock revivalism of The White Stripes and the poetic lyricism of cult-favorite Warren Zevon, dissecting how both acts carved unique paths in music history. Their conversation highlights how the Hall is slowly broadening its definition of rock — and why that matters.Beyond the performers, Professor Aubrey and Tim celebrate the often unsung heroes of music with the inductions of Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, and Lenny Waronker. From Bell's lush Philadelphia soul arrangements to Kaye's legendary bass lines, they shine a spotlight on the behind-the-scenes talent that shaped the sound of generations. To close out the episode, the hosts revisit their predictions from Episode 401, where they each chose who they believed should be inducted this year. With the full 2025 class revealed, the friendly rivalry comes to a head as they tally up their correct picks. Who had the better crystal ball? Tune in to find out!As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.

André 3000 is one of the greatest rappers to ever grace a microphone. He is, of course, one half of the Grammy winning rap group Outkast. Between the years of 1995 and 2006, he and his partner Big Boi released some of the most iconic rap records of all time. Late last year André released an album called New Blue Sun. It's an ambient spiritual jazz record where André plays the flute. He just kicked off a Fall tour in support of the album. We are beyond thrilled to have André 3000 join us on the show to talk about his recent album. He also gets into where he currently stands on rapping. Plus, he shares with us what his time working in the fashion world was like.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
