Who knew that a Jack Nicholson-sounding extra-terrestrial in a Grand Theft Auto-like would become a cult classic? We're going back 20 years to 2005 to look at a third-person action-adventure game that spawned more sequels than you realise. We're talking Destroy All Humans! On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about Pandemic Studios family-friendly game that accidentally led to a violent, angry alien blowing things up. We also look at the original E3 trailer and whether this game was going to be sneakier, a banger track for the Japanese audience, King of the Hill and some theremin. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: looking like a human thanks to the easy-to-use (but also limiting in some ways [but also not difficult to circumnavigate those limitations]) Holobob; becoming more mentally powerful via the thoughts of others; being aware of nearby, pesky Majestic agents; a GTA wanted level system that mostly works but is not without jank; hypnotising, if it takes your fancy; a little bit of something; answering questions as the Rockwell mayor; yearning for a stealth brain extraction; getting all the benefits of a probe (and the rest of your arsenal); the fluidity of your giant flying saucer; flinging folks around with Psi-Ops-like telekinesis; playing boring repetitive side missions just so you can progress; satirising pretty much everything about 1950s America; very easy company; the wonderful duo of Crypto and Pox; After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Destroy All Humans is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Thief II: The Metal Age on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
We're living by honour and killing by stealth… again. For only the second time ever (although it will be happening a lot more throughout this season), we are returning to a series. We're going back to 2000 to look at a third-person stealth-action game. We're talking Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about Rich spending his 18th birthday making levels in the mission editor, Josh's fondness for Tekken 3 (oh that volleyball was classic, wasn't it?), and bent coppers. We also get an apology for the lack of a PS2 version, word of 21 new stealth techniques, and a note on regional differencesHere are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: trying to judge how far away enemies are with the Ki meter without seeing them; differing opinions on the brilliance of guards' eyes and ears; a very sneaky and very slow crouch; movement that some people love and other people don't like one bit; a redundant right stick; movable corpses that have new items (none of which is mentioned in the game); manuals; (inverted) throwing poisoned rice on the floor; a white sheet washed with Daz that turns you invisible; combat that could do with with a lock-on; zero checkpoints; chucking grenades bosses; the sound of blood pouring out of your enemies; a returning grappling hook that's been tweaked and thus divides the crowd; a tutorial that grated for some; Silent Hill draw distance that stands out more in the new daytime levels; hiding in the water with a bamboo reed; an involved, interweaving three-campaign story; the lack of more lads like Genbu; the MGS connection; and an owl hooting instead of banging music for some reason. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Destroy All Humans on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

In Destroy All Humans!, players assume the role of Cryptosporidium 137 (Crypto for short), a warrior and member of the Furons, a race of war-like extraterrestrials with a large empire constantly seizing new worlds through conquest. After centuries of warfare against inferior species using unchecked nuclear weaponry left their species impotent and without genitalia, the Furons were unable to sexually reproduce and became forced to turn to cloning as a means of reproduction, as well as a process by which to achieve immortality. However, after generations of clones, the Furon DNA is degrading, and each clone is becoming less and less stable.

It's time to bring the noise. On the mid-season finale of Markers on the Map, join us on a journey to the year 2005 set up by our newest lore cutscene. We find ourselves in a generation where gaming was different, where hundreds of games dropped constantly, with no DLC or battle passes in sight. Movie tie-ins, platforming collect-a-thons, and the reinvention of first-person shooters - so many sixth generation games to discuss: Smash Bros Melee, Lego Star Wars, Battlefront, Destroy All Humans, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, GTA San Andreas, Metroid Prime 2, and so much more. Seriously, we talk about a record-breaking number of games this time. New episodes of Markers on the Map will return mid-January. Check us out on X @MarkersOnTheMap for information and updates!

Studio Soundtracks takes listeners behind the scenes of how music is crafted for film and television by hearing directly from composers, songwriters and music professionals in the Entertainment Industry. Listen to inspiring conversations about composition and hear works from Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-winning film scores on the show. TREVOR GURECKIS Trevor Gureckis is an award-winning composer and producer based in NYC, with work that spans film, pop, and concert music genres. His music often draws on his classical and production background, fusing electronics and live instruments in unique ways. As a film composer, his music often ranges from thrillers and horrors to dramas. A frequent collaborator of M. Night Shyamalan, Trevor has gone on to score four seasons of his hit Apple TV+ show “Servant” as well as recent feature film “Old” (Universal). Trevor's score for “Servant” and the main title for “Hunters” (Amazon) awarded him a BMI Film, TV & Visual Media Award and he was nominated for Best Original Horror Film Score for “Old” at the 2021 HMMA Awards. Other notable works include John Crowley's epic drama “The Goldfinch” (Warner Bros. Pictures), Neil Burger's Sci-fi thriller “Voyagers” (Lionsgate), and Henry Jacobson's psychological horror film “Bloodline” (Blumhouse). Gureckis began work on his first AAA game project in 2022: the highly anticipated remake of the survival horror classic “Dead Space” by EA and Motive Studios. “Dead Space” will be released on next gen. consoles and PC in January 2023. While Trevor excels at composing for film, his musical work extends far beyond. He produced the electro-pop band My Great Ghost, which is featured on Beck's Philip Glass remix album “Rework_”. In 2019, Trevor's solo album of instrumental and electronic music entitled “Corte” was released on Supertrain Records. Trevor is co-founder and executive creative director of Found Objects, a NYC based artist collective and production company. GARRY SCHYMAN BAFTA-winning composer Garry Schyman is one of the world's most celebrated voices in video game music as evidenced by his award-winning scores to the BioShock game series, as well as dozens of hit games, films, and television productions. Schyman has most notably given the universe of BioShock (including BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite) its musical identity, scoring the hugely successful game series with a blend of haunting beauty and terrifying unease. He paid playful homage to '50s sci-fi with his score for the 2005 game Destroy All Humans! (followed by two sequels), accelerated the heartbeat in action games like Resistance: Retribution and Dante's Inferno, and gave a nod to the hypnotic style of Bernard Herrmann in the mystery game Voyeur. He has been in the fantasy world of Tolkien for the adventure game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Schyman's film and television credits span every genre, including classic series like The A-Team and Magnum, P.I., stormy action (Tornado!), thrillers (Horseplayer, starring Brad Dourif), and family horror (Spooky House, starring Ben Kingsley) and more recently Itsy Bitsy. Among his most recent work is the Square Enix game Forspoken which will be released in January of 2023.
BAFTA-winning video game composer Garry Schyman – who's behind the award-winning scores in the Bioshock game series, Destroy All Humans!, Resistance: Retribution, Dante's Inferno and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor – explains how he scored the brand new action role-playing game, Forspoken with co-composer Bear McCreary.
