Kate Bowler and Elaine Pagels both teach religion, write about religion, and have experienced immense hardships. In this frank and funny conversation, they explore why people still seek ancient religious teachings in our modern age. In moving and relatable moments, they explain how they overcome loss, illness, and isolation. Pagels is the author of The Gnostic Gospels and Why Religion?: A Personal Story. Bowler is the author of Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel and Everything Happens for a Reason (and other lies I’ve loved). They speak with Gina Murdock, a writer, yoga teacher, and community organizer. Show Notes Listen to How to Save a Democracy in Decline on Aspen Insight. Gina Murdock of Lead with Love is on a mission to shift culture from fear to love inside and out. Sounds big… and she truly is up to big things. Lead with Love is a global gathering and training for heart-centered leaders featuring yoga, meditation, time in nature, spiritual psychology and experiential workshops, music + movement and a renewed focus on social impact and business as a force for good. Gina is a writer, yoga and meditation teacher, inspirational speaker, advisor to businesses making an impact and founder of Lead with Love non-profit and events. I went to Lead with Love summit in Aspen in 2017, and the experience blew me away. Not only the level of organization and the speakers (Marianne Williamson!), but also the community of people who’re into yoga, consciousness, leadership and making an impact (all at the same time). I needed to know more about the woman behind it. So I ended up going on the Lead with Love retreat in Bali to explore my own leadership through the prism of wellness, spirituality and ritual. Topics we discuss in this episode are: The personal spiritual quest that led Gina to start Lead With Love and the lessons she’s learned from running a non-profit The daily practices that help her develop her own leadership What leading from the heart looks like How to live your dharma What self-worth has to do with leadership How she used to struggle with making living as a yoga teacher Why you don’t always have to quit your day job to make an impact in the world Being an activist without anger or shame How dealing with fertility challenges helped her connect to peace and a sense of purpose How being of service and showing up can open all doors How to become a speaker at Lead with Love Summit Why technology and social media are energetically neutral Making empowered choices around how we use social media Mentioned in this episode: Lead with Love Summit in Aspen October 25-28 (use code KSENIA to get $100 off your pass) Shakti Leadership podcast episode with Nilima Bhat David Brooks - "The Moral Bucket List" article in The New York Times Byron Katie’s The Work Somatic Experiencing Spiritual Psychology program at University of Santa Monica Soul Of Money: Reclaiming the Wealth of Our Inner Resources  Connect with Gina Murdock: @ileadwithlove @ginamurdockaspen Get quotes and full show notes here.

Gina Murdock is a writer, yoga teacher and the founder of Mind, Body, Spirit RX. Her wellness work spans to community events like the Aspen Yoga Society, The Aspen City of Wellbeing and the Lead with Love Retreats. Gina emphasizes the importance of conscious awareness, prioritizing health and healing through thousand year old yoga principles.   After receiving her Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology, she found herself looking eye to eye with spirit. Her connection has helped her career grow, expanding her wellness empire and helping hundreds of people let go of their struggles and live fulfilling, aware lives.   Talking with Gina reminded me of the importance of removing my filter of judgement and to practice it in what seems like impossible situations, such as the current political state. The world is more divided than ever and Gina sheds light on the power of looking through a lens of change instead of hatred. As tough as it can be, we have to talk about these issues from a place of love so we can create change through leadership instead of division.   Gina and I talk about following your intuition, even when it tells you to max out your credit card. We discuss her rise in the wellness community, why most people aren’t reaching their full potential and why impatience is the real enemy.   Radically Vibrant Gina   Learning how to view tough political subjects from a place of love and understanding, instead of a place of judgement and anger Shifting away from a victimized mindset is the key to abundance, happiness and a fulfilled lifestyle and mindset Becoming aware of the choices we make on a daily basis and how to become more disciplined in our habits   Radically Inspired Clarity   Ask yourself ‘Who would I be without my story?’ and then figure out why you feel like a victim and how to reframe your thoughts Use freeform writing to remove toxic thoughts and be able to live a less judgemental, more connected life Don’t search for the quick fix to receive a short term gain, instead cultivate patience to thrive long term   Gina Murdock Answers…   How did she grow a wellness empire? What moment did she realize the power of yoga beyond the physical postures? How does she teach her students to stop the cycle of judgement and practice coming from a place of love? How can we shift from a “victim” mindset to being in a position of power within our own lives?   Radically Loved Quotes   “We are a divided world and that’s why yoga is such a beautiful tool.”   “The practice of free form writing is helpful, from a practical sense, of giving yourself an opportunity to give voice to your thoughts.”   “There’s a process that has to happen, most of us can’t say, ‘I’m just going to let that go.”   “When you become more aware, you realize that you have a choice in every situation.”   A Little More About Our Guest   Gina Murdock is the founder of a wellness empire, spanning through yoga, wellbeing, body and spirit.
