Send us a message! When relationships collide with perimenopause, even the strongest partnerships can face unexpected challenges. Hormonal shifts don't just affect the woman experiencing them—they ripple through her closest relationships, often creating confusion, conflict, and emotional distance that neither partner fully understands. What makes this transition especially difficult is the silence surrounding it, many women don't recognize what's happening until they're already questioning their relationships and feeling disconnected, while partners struggle to recognize the person they've built a life with.In this episode, I'm joined by my sister Neha Kumar, a licensed marriage and family therapist with years of experience helping couples through major life transitions. Neha explains how perimenopause affects emotional well-being, communication patterns, and intimate relationships. She also shares how partners can support each other through emotional shifts, when to seek professional help, and why education and preparation might be the relationship-saving tools you never knew you needed.ReferencesThe School of Essential Ingredients by Erica BauermeisterConnect with Neha Kumar:InstagramConnect with me:TikTokInstagramEastside Menopause & MetabolismAudio Stamps01:00 - Dr. Patil-Sisodia is joined by sister Neha Kumar, LMFT, who shares her journey to becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist helping women through hormonal transitions.03:10 - Neha reveals many of her relationship therapy patients struggle with perimenopause, often shortly after postpartum recovery.05:14 - How hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause affect a woman's emotional well-being and identity.08:43 - Neha explains the common emotional and psychological challenges women face during constant hormonal transitions from childhood through menopause.16:04 - Practical strategies for maintaining intimacy and managing emotional changes in relationships during menopause.22:58 - Neha shares the biggest sources of conflict in marriages or partnerships she sees which are related to menopause.26:27 - How partners can better support each other through this transition even when they're not really fully aware of what's happening, and when to seek professional help.33:55 - Neha offers her top piece of advice for couples navigating this life transition. Thanks for listening. This week, we're bringing you a special episode of The Green Blueprint, a show about the stories behind first-of-a-kind climate projects. In this episode: Terawatt Power's first commercial electric truck charging depot, which opened in April near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. It was a significant milestone for the industry. So how'd Terawatt pull it off? Host Lara Pierpoint talks to Terawatt's founder Neha Palmer about the financing, offtakes, and market demand for electrified trucks. It's the kind of deep-dive conversation we love to have here on Catalyst, so we think you'll enjoy it. In 2021, Neha Palmer co-founced Terrawatt Infrastructure with a bold mission: create the backbone for America's electric trucking revolution. Within its first year, Terrawatt secured a billion-dollar investment. But as the company developed plans for a nationwide charging network, it confronted the daunting challenge of building infrastructure for an electric truck market that barely existed. High-profile bankruptcies like Nikola Motors cast long shadows over the sector's viability, raising questions about whether heavy-duty transport can truly be electrified. In this episode, Lara talks with Neha about how Terrawatt aims to transform freight transport despite market skepticism. Neha explains Terawatt's strategic approach to site selection, innovative charging designs for fully-loaded trucks, and the vision for a revolutionary California-to-Texas network. What is it about Warren Buffett that continues to inspire millions of investors across the globe? This week, Monika dives into the key highlights from the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meeting held on May 3, 2025. In what could be described as the “Woodstock for Capitalists,” over 20,000 people gathered to listen to the Oracle of Omaha—perhaps for the last time, as Buffett announced his decision to step down at the end of this year. With his 95th birthday approaching, the baton will pass to Vice Chairman Greg Abel, marking the end of an extraordinary era.Monika walks us through some of Buffett's most impactful messages over the years—from his legendary $1 million bet against hedge funds to his consistent promotion of low-cost index investing for retail investors. A particularly powerful moment this year came in response to a question about market volatility, where Buffett warned that if a 15% drop in portfolio value causes fear or panic, an investor likely needs a new philosophy. Markets will continue to surprise, he said, and investors must learn to check emotions at the door. Monika echoes this wisdom with her own tools for riding market ups and downs—starting with emergency funds, insurance, and a safety buffer of fixed-income products.Listener questions this week reflect a deepening engagement with personal finance and investing. Neha writes in asking whether she should switch her mutual fund investments from a regular plan to a direct plan, given the high total expense ratio. Another listener shares an anonymous and difficult situation involving a financially reckless parent, inherited debt risks, and questions about overseas investing and portfolio tracking. And Smitha from Chennai asks for help in setting up a three-account flow system within a single-income household, as she juggles daily expenses, investing, and asset ownership alongside her spouse.Chapters:(00:00-00:00) Buffett's retirement and legacy(00:00-00:00) Lessons in passive investing from Buffett's million-dollar bet(00:00-00:00) Regular vs direct mutual funds: what should you choose?(00:00-00:00) How to protect your finances from family debt(00:00-00:00) Managing money as a single-income householdIf you have financial questions that you'd like answers for, please email us at mailme@monikahalan.com If you have financial questions that you'd like answers for, please email us at mailme@monikahalan.comMonika's book on basic money managementhttps://www.monikahalan.com/lets-talk-money-english/Monika's book on mutual fundshttps://www.monikahalan.com/lets-talk-mutual-funds/Monika's workbook on recording your financial lifehttps://www.monikahalan.com/lets-talk-legacy/Calculatorshttps://investor.sebi.gov.in/calculators/index.htmlYou can find Monika on her social media @monikahalan. You're listening to Voices of Your Village, and today I get to hang out with Neha Ruch. Neha is the founder of Mother Untitled, the leading platform for ambitious women embracing family life. As a thought leader, influencer, and sought -after speaker, Neha's work is shifting the narrative around stay -at -home motherhood, empowering women to find confidence and purpose in their parenting journey. Her book, The Power Pause: How To Plan A Career Break After Kids - And Come Back Stronger Than Ever offers powerful insights for those navigating career pauses and identity shifts. I loved chatting with Neha so much because I find myself often living in the gray area in life. Things aren't very black and white in my brain and Neha really embraces that gray. It's not you work 40 plus hours a week or you stay at home. It's not this or that or forever and always. It's really looking at what's feasible in this season, what feels right in this season. And I have passed this book along to so many humans in my life who are finding themselves in that black and white and really looking for the gray. This is not just for folks who want to be a stay -at -home parent and leave the workforce or have been a stay -at -home parent and want to re -enter the workforce. It's for anyone who's a parent because it opens up our mind to so many things that we might have shoulds or should nots built in and biases around. We've all been burned by an online clothing purchase that didn't live up to its promised fit and quality. I am thrilled to be back with each and every one of you for season 16—and I am thrilled to be joined by our guest today, Neha Ruch, author of The Power Pause: How to Plan a Career Break After Kids—and Come Back Stronger Than Ever, which came out January 14. We've all heard that phrase about having it all, about work/life balance (which I find to be a fallacy), and how to juggle it all, and Neha's book offers a really modern solution: the power pause, which she explains in this episode. After reading her book, truly, for the first time I thought, “I can actually maybe make all of my dreams work in life.” I learned about downshifting; about all of the stigma and shame that comes with being a stay-at-home parent, especially a stay-at-home mom; how to make the decision to take a career pause to settling into the day-to-day of a career pause to how to return from a career pause; how to make it work financially; how we become so attached to our job titles, and how to discover who we are beyond our titles; and how to find fulfillment in each stage of our lives, no matter where we're at. I also learned that a power pause is not a career dead end, and that we might actually be setting ourselves up for a career comeback that leaves us better off than before. We also talk about how to announce this on LinkedIn, how it should show up on our resumes, and so much more. I am really excited for you to hear this conversation with Neha, and I'd love to tell you a little bit about her and the work she's doing. First of all, The Power Pause has been so well-received—it's a USA Today bestseller, for starters! Neha is the founder of Mother Untitled, the leading platform for ambitious women leaning into family life that is catalyzing a shift in how society views stay-at-home motherhood. She lives in Manhattan with her husband, their two children, and their dog Coconut. Take a listen! The Power Pause: How to Plan a Career Break After Kids—and Come Back Stronger Than Ever by Neha Ruch
