No football. No problem. The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out and not only is it as packed as usual, it's also one of our longest ever episodes. We'll leave that up to you to decide if that's a good thing or not! Global football has ground to a halt, but not in Belarus! We look at the latest coming from some of the leagues and governing bodies around the world as to what directions they're looking at taking when games can return and we pick our new favourite team to follow, FK Slutsk of the Belarusian Premier League. We chat with Vancouver Whitecaps CEO Mark Pannes to discuss how the Whitecaps and MLS have been handling the latest crisis, we check in with Whitecaps striker Lucas Cavallini to see how his family are dealing with everything right now and talk about the season so far, and we get on a conference call with former fan favourite Kendall Waston to see how life is treating him down in Cincinnati. This break could actually prove to be very beneficial to the Whitecaps as it lets them get all their players fit, healthy, and up to speed. 'Caps coach Marc Dos Santos joins us to chat about that, the season so far, whether the current situation affects any summer transfer plans, and he gives us an insight into what his new daily routine looks like. We also sit down with FC Edmonton head coach Jeff Paulus for a detailed and in-depth chat about the first Canadian Premier League season, the growth of the game in Canada, how the Eddies have built their squad this year, and much more. There's also part three of our new episodic drama serial, we ponder which Whitecaps player you'd like to be quarantined with, Peat & Diesel finish up their residency as our artists of the month for March, and nothing stops Football Violence Awareness Month, well apart from the end of the month! Welcome back soccer fans! Did you enjoy the MLS Cup? The hosts of Sons of a Pitch: An American Soccer Podcast give their take on one of the most meaningful MLS Cup Finals in league history. With Atlanta United's 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers, and the last 4 MLS Cup Champions being expansion teams, there is a clear message to owners and managers what is needed to build a contender. Tune in for Nick and Mike's thoughts and where the league is going, and whether we are witnessing MLS 3.0. Also, the hosts discuss the idea of league parity and whether league imposed rules should be lifted. Next, the podcast takes a look at the latest transfer news. Big names have moved - Zack Steffen to Manchester City, Maxi Urruti to Montreal Impact, Caleb Porter to coach a returning Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the LA Galaxy. How does this shape the teams, and was the value of the player worth the deal? Finally, the hosts review FC Cincinnati's expansion draft picks and transfers. The big news being the expansion side's acquisition of Greg Garza from Atlanta, along with Kendall Waston, Darren Mattocks, Kei Kamara, Roland Lamah, Eric Alexander, and Hassan Ndam. Has FCC built an immediate contender or will they need a few seasons to compete for hardware? Finally, congratulations to our bracket challenge winner, Greg, with his entry: My Loons Suck. Surprisingly, Greg was our only entrant who picked Atlanta United to win the MLS Cup. Greg: Email us your information so Mike can send your prize!   As we enter the offseason, let us know what topics you'd like covered and be sure to follow us @SOPSoccer. Thanks for listening!

Atlanta United quickly rebounded from their midweek loss against Sporting Kansas City by defeating Orlando City 2-1 Sunday night in the Sunshine State(it was raining during the match, but whatever). It didn’t take very long for Atlanta to find the back of the net, as they took an early 1-0 lead after Greg Garza drew a penalty and was pulled down in the box by Cristian Higuita. Josef Martinez stepped up to take it and converted in the 10th minute after his feint run-up caught Joe Bendik guessing the wrong way. The goal was Martinez’s eighth of the season. Things got even better for the Five Stripes, as Greg Garza’s cross into the box found Ezequiel Barco, whose shot kissed the bottom of the crossbar and found the back of the net in the 31st minute. Alec Kann, who was returning from a knee injury and had yet to play for Atlanta this season, stepped up big in the absence of suspended Brad Guzan with his only save of the first half coming in the 44th minute. The good guys went into the break with a 2-0 lead. Kann was called upon once again early in the second half, as Justin Meram’s left-footed attempt from the near post in the 52nd minute led to the Decatur native’s second important save of the match. However, a bit of misfortune led to Orlando City’s first goal of the night, as Kann saved Will Johnson’s initial shot in the 57th minute, but a combination of his inability to punch the ball out of the box and Miles Robinson’s missed attempt to clear it led to an easy finish for Meram. Tito Villalba nearly restored the two-goal lead in the 77th minute, but Bendik saved his shot on the 1-on-1 opportunity. At the end of the day, the two goals were all Atlanta needed to win a massive Eastern Conference matchup. Overall, it was impressive to see the team continue to find ways to get three points on the road, as AU’s winning streak away from home now extends to four. Atlanta’s next challenge comes Sunday, May 20 against the New York Red Bulls at 7 p.m. in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's certainly been an interesting eight days in Whitecapsland, covering a gamut of emotions. We kick things off with a look back at the 'Caps win over Atlanta, thanks to a two goal Man of the Match performance from Kendall Waston. We chat about how the match played out, who shone, and is this 4-1-4-1 formation now set in stone due to the success it's been having. We also pay a visit to the Atlanta locker room and hear the postgame thoughts [at 23:27] from Greg Garza, Michael Parkhurst, and Tyrone Mears, the latter of who also chats about his family being caught up in the Manchester bombing. Sadly it's not all been good news for the 'Caps after crashing out of this year's Canadian Championship at the first hurdle. We look back at the loss in Montreal [37:31], wonder how seriously the club took it this year, and what it means in terms of money and playing time in the future. Our player interview this week is with the Whitecaps new Australian winger Bernie Ibini [73:27], and there's still time to look at which Whitecaps may head out on loan, this week's Twitter faux pas by the 'Caps, WFC2, and a lot more, including Vanilla Muffins featuring in this week's Wavelength section [84:43].
