Coventry did not have a good Christmas – is it a slip or the rot setting in?Ipswich and Watford by contrast had a bumper Christmas. With the squad at their disposal Ipswich look ominous and despite a slow start Wrexham are now only a point below the play offs in ninth. In League One, much to Tom's delight it's hard to look past Lincoln City who beat Cardiff, Stockport, Huddersfield and Peterborough over Christmas…can they really stay the course? After a calamitous defeat to Swansea City before Christmas, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson could not have asked for a better response from his players. Four consecutive wins has lifted the Reds to ninth in the Championship, but crucially, within six points of second place. Are they now genuine contenders for automatic promotion? Iwan and Sam certainly think so.Swansea's steady progress under Vitor Matos continues, although Iwan believes some are "getting carried" away with the improvement, given they've yet to beat anyone above them in the table.Cardiff City remain top of League One, but their lead at the top remains three points despite a fruitful festive period. And Newport County are off the bottom of League Two, giving themselves some welcomed hope into the new year.

Carl Roberts and former Wales internationals Iwan Roberts and Sam Vokes reflect on the weekend's results. Swansea came from behind to beat Wrexham 2-1 in their first league meeting for 22 years. A big statement of intent - that's what Carl, Iwan and Sam made of the three late attacking substitutions made Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy that turned an acceptable away draw into a huge win at title rivals Stevenage. It increased their lead at the top of League One to four points, but also sent a clear message to their rivals on the manager's winning mentality.Swansea City had a super sub of their own as Liam Cullen struck to ensure a second successive home win that silenced talk of a relegation battle... for now. Newport County put a shocking FA Cup display behind them to earn a point at Crewe, giving Iwan new hope they can climb off the bottom of League Two as the hectic Christmas schedule arrives. And after Mo Salah's remarkable outburst against his treatment at Liverpool, Sam recalls his attempts to persuade Sean Dyche he was wrong to drop him to the Burnley bench.

Are Dunfermline Athletic finally starting to click under Neil Lennon? As Stenhousemuir stumble in League One could Inverness be about to stroll away with the title? And can Edinburgh City still pull off “The Great Escape” of Scottish football in League Two? This podcast contains some language which audiences may find mildly offensive.
Adam Hurrey, Charlie Eccleshare and David Walker entertain this month's listener entries for Mesut Haaland Dicks, as the Clichés faithful nominate their niche footballing fascinations and irritations. Among the selections are the egalitarian approach of football results shows, the psychological impact of the height of the main camera angle, that moment of uncertainty as a referee indicates a goal kick and not a penalty and one of the most nuanced observations on the language of football the pod has ever faced. Meanwhile, the Adjudication Panel enjoy an inevitable Sean Dyche moment and some curious Champions League commentary. #907 | Ed and Adam sift through a grim cup exit. United came back from two down but then blew it in the shoot-out. The bigger picture is far more important than one defeat to League Two opposition - another mess of a tactical performance, another goalkeeping error, more questions about the manager. Amorim's ideas are still being bolted onto a mismatched squad, so compromises are everywhere. With the window closing situation is stark: exist must get done but its unclear anybody new is coming in. : And could on of those exits be totally unpalatable? 00:00 Introduction 01:22 Initial Tactical Analysis 05:16 Structural Problems 08:49 Second Half Analysis 20:03 Attacking Issues 43:50 Kobbie Mainoo Contract Situation 53:00 Transfer Window Updates 01:03:21 Closing Remarks If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts.
