Filmmaker Justin P. Lange drops in to discuss his newest film, The Visitor, which will be hitting digital and on demand October 7th and on Epix in December. Justin talks to us about what got him into directing horror, how he creates tension in films, and his thoughts on whether we have control over who we become. This was a great conversation that was at times fun, informative, and existential.
Finn Jones has wanted to be an actor for as long as he can remember. “It's inherently been a driving factor of my life,” he told me, along with his early journey into film and television. As an actor, Finn is best known for starring as Danny Rand in Iron Fist and on Game of Thrones as Loral Tyrell. He's also been in Swimming with Sharks, Dickinson, and Sleeping Beauty. Most recently, Finn starred in a film for Blumhouse called The Visitor, which was directed by Justin P. Lange. The plot reads, "After a series of tragedies, Robert moves with his wife back to her childhood home. After he discovers an old portrait of a man who looks like him, he goes down a rabbit hole to discover the identity of this mysterious doppelganger.” In this interview, we talk about Finn's film work, how he originally learned camera work, what it means to have “blind faith” as an actor, working with creative role models, and how he survived failure from Netflix's Iron Fist. An undead teenage girl, Mina, haunts a remote forest known as The Devil's Den. She discovers Alex, a blind boy, hiding in the trunk of one of her victim's cars. Both have been victims of abuse and find comfort and solace in the company of each other. Justin P. Lange's feature directorial debut, "The Dark," attempts to tackle hefty material, like physical and mental abuse. With so many forest-based horror films (not to mention the countless zombie movies and games of the last decade) it is refreshing to see a story told from the monster's perspective. Through gradual flashbacks, we get to see how this monster came to be. The movie is competently shot, but the slow and plodding cut-and-paste scenes make for a less than entertaining watch. "The Dark" feels like it's best suited for a short film than a 95-minute feature, which it was, until funding from Austria recreated it into the longer narrative. Release Year: 2018Genre: FantasyStarring: Nadia Alexander, Toby Nichols, Karl Markovics.TrailerSummary: An undead teenage girl befriends a blind boy that she meets in a forest she haunts and hunts in. Both have been victims of unimaginable abuse, and each finds solace in the other. There may be a chance of light at the end of their tunnel, but it will come with a body count.
