Chaya Leah is back from Vegas, and boy does she have some stories to tell (not the kind you think, though. They are much, much worse). Also, are orthodox Jews allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving? Was Yael disappointed when she met hostages in real life? And what did Chaya Leah say to make an Uber driver pull over because he was laughing so hard? If you love our show, please consider becoming a subscriber on askajew.substack.com. It's free! For now...EMBARRASSING - I confuse Chaim Herzog and Chaim Weizmann I guess, so ignore everything I said about him. Ireland still sucks though, that part has been fact-checked.We cover:* Slot machines are life.* Looking for a Minyan at The Venetian,* Chaya Leah loved the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil show, especially the part about Israel.* Two very special guests for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.* These hostages have some dark humor, and we're here for it.* The antisemites are sometimes right.* Netanyahu is asking for a pardon. We have nothing to add.* Ireland still sucks, but our listeners from there are the best.* I gets Chaim Herzog and Chaim Weizmann confused, SORRY.* The truth about the Hannibal Directive is that you're all idiots.* The IDF killed everyone on October 7th and also it was a good thing.* What's the most normal country?* The Australian World War 1 memorial in Israel.* Normalize Normalization.* Who is worse, Peter Beinart or Mandy Patinkin?* How do we fix Israel's image? By doing nothing.* Mamdani's transition team is just as bad as you think it is.Questions? Concerns? Want to tell Chaya Leah she is “lanky”? Email us at askajewpod@gmail.com This is a public episode. Happy Thanksgiving! Today on Ask A Jew, CNN Political Contributor and author of the new book “A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization”, Scott Jennings!.You know Scott as the “spokesperson for common sense” on the CNN panel, and may recognize him as the guy who wore the hostage pin every day for two years on air, along with his progressive BFF Van Jones. (Scott, tell Van Chaya Leah says “hey”). He's also a writer, a veteran of national political campaigns, host of the Scott Jennings Show on the Salem Radio Network and a million other things we didn't have time to talk about because we were too busy asking him about raising chickens and whether he ever stole anything from the White House (the answer is Yes! You have to listen to find out what though..)We did talk about being a lone conservative on a panel of liberals, how America is awesome, friendships across the aisle, why the only negative responses he got to wearing the hostage pin were on the air and not in real life, and his passionate, administration-defying crusade to make soccer illegal. We even let him talk about his book for a little bit! The bestseller “A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization” is out now and you should buy it as a holiday gift for all your friends as well as your enemies. It's a great read with some wild access and fun stories!Make sure to follow Scott on X, Facebook, Instagram and check out his radio show/podcast, which you can catch weekdays at 2pm EST Live on X.Also:* Writing a book about President Trump, with President Trump, while President Trump is being President Trump.* Wearing the yellow hostage pin every day over the last two years in solidarity with the hostages in Gaza, and finally taking it off.* Growing up as a blue-collar Kentuckian with a little briefcase.* “Everyone is Hitler” except Hitler.* This podcast has gone one zero episodes without mentioning Mandy Patinkin.* Is it fair that Scott is the lone conservative voice on the CNN panel fending off the liberals? Na, it's not fair…to them.* Scott Jennings, Van Jones, David Axelrod - we'd pay for someone to make this buddy comedy.* Stop resisting the west.* Is being an antisemite good politics? Strongly recommend taking the time to watch Scott address the Republican Jewish Coalition last month. Chills:* Scott was on a nice vacation in Israel when Iran ruined it.* The Iron Dome is a freaking miracle (and fun to watch!)* 250 years of America F*** Yea!!!* Is Scott the most Meme-d guy on CNN?* Scott thinks soccer should be banned.* Raising 4 boys and the Abraham Accords in the Jennings household.* Oh wait Scott has a book??* What did Scott steal from the White House?* The Best Christmas movie is not the one Scott said.* We make him thank us for JesusIf you've come this far, consider subscribing! We’re so excited to share a new show from Lemonada Media, Don’t Listen To Us, an advice show for advice-skeptics and wisdom-lovers, hosted by Mandy Patinkin, Kathryn Grody, and their son Gideon. Legendary actor Mandy (The Princess Bride, Homeland, Criminal Minds) is the consummate entertainer who shoots from the hip, stage actress Kathryn is the thoughtful connector who sees all the nuance, and Gideon is the brave soul keeping them on track (or at least trying). Together, Mandy and Kathryn have 40+ years of marriage, 140+ years of life experience, and a series of viral social media posts where Gideon interviews them and watches both chaos and wisdom ensue. They don’t always agree on what advice to give—in fact, they rarely do. But they draw from their highs and lows as artists, parents, lovers, and humans, to give their unique take on real dilemmas submitted by you -- the listeners. Hang out with this family and you’ll walk away with insights you didn’t expect, stories you’ll want to repeat, and comfort knowing that you’re not alone in figuring out how to survive this fakakta world. SEASON 2 - EPISODE 154 - Tracy Letts - Actor / Writer In this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, we speak with actor and writer Tracy Letts (AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, BUG, HOMELAND). Born and raised in Oklahoma, Tracy struck out for Chicago after high school to find work as an actor in the city's active theatre scene, and we learn why Tracy began writing plays himself. We also discuss cinema's role as a messenger for exposing the stories of the stage to rural American communities without access to the theatre, and he shares his mixed experiences adapting his plays into films, from director William Friedkin's tense vision of BUG to the Hollywood ensemble version of his Pulitzer Prize winning play AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY. An accomplished actor as well, Tracy reflects on seeking advice for performing for the camera from his seasoned HOMELAND castmates Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, and he reveals how he felt when, after being replaced on a film he had written, he was asked to act in additional scenes invented for his character. Plus, Tracy quotes a critical review that ironically sold out the remaining shows of his first play KILLER JOE.  - This episode is sponsored by Barco & Aputure

Save her wedding date and find a new groom! This is certainly not your average rom-com and Madison and Chelsea discuss how it defies tropes and expectations, while still ticking all of the necessary genre boxes. General consensus on the book? It should be made into a movie and Emma's parents must be played by Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody.Digressions include the oppressive heat, Chelsea's weird foot tan line, and so much more.Connect With UsFollow us on Instagram @loveatfirstscreening or send an email to loveatfirstscreening@gmail.comProduction Hosts: Chelsea Ciccone and Madison HillMusic: Good StephArtwork: Chelsea CicconeSocial Media: Marissa CicconeAbout the ShowAn examination of classic tropes and iconic characters pits connoisseur against cynic—one romantic comedy at a time. Based upon the comic strip created in 1931 by Chester Gould, this eye-popping live-action adaptation was long planned by Oscar-winning director Warren Beatty (Reds, Heaven Can Wait) who also elected to star as the titular square-jawwed crime fighter sporting a bright yellow jacket.  Finally green-lit and released by Disney in the wake of the breakout success the prior year of Tim Burton's Batman, the studio was hoping that it could duplicate the mega-blockbuster success of that comic book adaptation, backing its release with loads of marketing hype AND three different soundtrack albums including an assortment of original songs written by Tony-winning songwriting stage legend Stephen Sondheim (West Side Story, Into the Woods) and performed one of its co-stars....that would be Madonna who played Breathtless Mahoney, who is also a key femme fatale for the story.  She is joined by completely STACKED cast by Paul Sorvino, Mandy Patinkin, Glenne Headley, Charlie Korsmo, Charles Durning, James Caan, Dustin Hoffman, AND Al Pacino who plays the film's main villain Big Boy Caprice. Alas the film did solid box office but did not live up to the Batman-level hype...though it DID set a record for most Oscars won by a comic book adaptation with three for Best Makeup, Best Original Song, and Best Art Direction.  This record of three Oscars would not be matched for another 28 years until it was eventually tied by another Disney comic book release, Black Panther. Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Leo Hochner is a bon-vivant and art connoisseur who breeds small dogs. Both bachelors, they are part of a close network of friends from Vienna who are scattered across the globe after the Nazis take power in Austria. When Robert takes his life in New York after a humiliating arrest under New York's anti-gay laws, he directs his final words to Leo, who was still trapped in Nazi-occupied Budapest. So when, in 1936, a vaudeville impresario shows up to recruit him, 10-year-old Leo is more than happy to join his troupe, and his parents reluctantly agree. As Leo, now known as Jackie Gerlich, travels the world and dips his toes into Hollywood, his family is left behind to grapple with the terror of rising antisemitism in Vienna. After years without contact, Leo's mother is shocked to see her son dancing on screen in The Wizard of Oz—and she resolves to do everything she can to get her son back.  Learn more at www.lbi.org/gerlich. Each re-release brings back a unique, fascinating, and often heart-wrenching story from the Leo Baeck Institute Archives. Known for her candid talk and blunt advice about sex, Dr. Ruth Westheimer is the world's most renowned psychosexual therapist. But beneath her joyful demeanor is a chaotic story about her youth—a girl named Karola Ruth Siegel left orphaned and stateless. How does she harness all of this uncertainty - and the sexual awakenings of adolescence - to make it in the world? Dr. Ruth shared her diary for the first time with the Leo Baeck Institute – and with all of you – for this episode of Exile. We are grateful for her generosity with her time and her story – and for the decades of sound advice.  Learn more at www.lbi.org/westheimer. Each re-release brings back a unique, fascinating, and often heart-wrenching story from the Leo Baeck Institute Archives. In Nazi-occupied Austria, a young man named Kurt Kleinmann comes up with a plan to escape: write to Americans - strangers - who share his last name and ask for help to get a visa. Just as he begins to lose hope, he gets a response from New Yorker Helen Kleinman. Little does he know, Helen will save his life…and capture his heart.  The Kurt and Helen Kleinmann Collection in the Leo Baeck Institute Archives includes Helen and Kurt's entire correspondence - hundreds of letters - from 1938 and 1939, plus telegrams and other material documenting Kurt's emigration. As we prepare our fifth season of Exile, we're looking back at our favorite episodes from seasons 1-4. Each re-release brings back a unique, fascinating, and often heart-wrenching story from the Leo Baeck Institute Archives. At the height of his fame, a shirtless, barefooted Albert Einstein escapes the bustle of Berlin for a simpler life. The best thinkers of the time gather at his beloved summer house in Caputh to laze by the water, swap ideas, and gossip. There, he can escape the pressures of global fame, but his summer haven can't keep him safe from the growing Nazi movement bubbling in Germany.  The Albert Einstein Collections in the Archives of the Leo Baeck Institute in New York include hundreds of Einstein's personal photographs, many from Caputh, as well as the Guestbook from his summer home. After a few pages bearing the signatures of the friends and international luminaries who visited the Einsteins those short summers before 1933, most of the pages remain blank. A young, Jewish librarian in New York named Florence Mendheim risks her life to spy on the growing Nazi movement in America. As Nazism becomes a gathering storm, will she get out of the spy game before she's caught? The Florence Mendheim Collection in the Archives of the Leo Baeck Institute in New York contains: her reports and correspondence with the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue and the American Jewish Congress, American pro-Nazi and white supremacist propaganda she collected during her spy work, her personal letters, and some of Florence's unpublished novels.
