You are landing on our 700th episode y'all. Did you read that.....700 EPISODES. So, of course we brought fire - writer, comedian, actor Billy Eichner and actor Luke Macfarlane talking about their film Bros. We were lucky to be able to watch the U.S. premiere of the film a few weeks back at the beautiful Castro Theater in San Francisco and it was an experience. The movie is so good! Lots of laugh out loud moments (so many we missed some of the dialogue), sweet and loving moments, and some HOT love scenes cause they could. We had an absolute great time talking with Luke and Billy and we hope that after you listen to our convo, you'll head out this weekend and see Bros. It's such a triumphant first major studio LGBTQ rom-com (lead by an LGBTQ cast) and yeah, you can take your teens, parents, family, and friends to see it because it's that accessible. Plus there are some fantastic cameos in Bros - you will hoot and holler when you see them. On a personal note, we are so proud to hit this major milestone of our podcast and to have folks like Billy and Luke featured on this show. We want to thank you for listening, following, commenting, rating and reviewing us. If you haven't followed us on socials or written a review or rated us, we want to ask you to do that after you listen to this episode. It helps us in so many ways and it just takes a few minutes to do so.  Also, if you enjoy this podcast, tip us. Chris & Kelsey gladly feast on those who would subdue them! The "Original": The Addams Family (1991) "Con artists plan to fleece an eccentric family using an accomplice who claims to be their long-lost uncle” (IMDb.com). The 90s Addams Family managed to modernize the famous horror brood without losing their wit and bite, but does it still hold up? The "Remake": The Addams Family (2019) "The eccentrically macabre family moves to a bland suburb where Wednesday Addams' friendship with the daughter of a hostile and conformist local reality show host exacerbates conflict between the families” (IMDb.com). While showing an occasional glimpse of quality, this Addams reboot is ultimately just a lame Illumination wannabe with often-flat humor and tired jokes. Comedy is not exactly in vogue among big studios, so when filmmakers Judd Apatow and Nicholas Stoller approached actor Billy Eichner about making ‘Bros,' the first big-studio, big-screen LGBTQ+ rom-com for Universal Pictures, he was skeptical. “I have an openly gay man in comedy for over 20 years,” he said, “and I am telling you that even the most gay-friendly execs at a major studio are not going to greenlight this movie. And even if they do, they're not going to let me tell it in an authentic, honest way.” The movie was greenlit, and now Eichner talks about starring on a feature film for the first time, the thrill of co-writing the script with Stoller and how a major movie studio came on board to make a gay romatic comedy came to life. But first, Kim Masters and Matt Belloni look into the return of The Golden Globes to NBC in 2023, and what it means for next year's awards season.

Close out the summer with the AMPM VIDEO crew as they go on vacation with Jaws a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley. It stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that is attacking beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife. The screenplay is credited to Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography. Shot mostly on location on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Jaws was the first major motion picture to be shot on the ocean, and consequently had a troubled production with issues such as going over budget and past schedule. As the art department's mechanical sharks often malfunctioned, Spielberg decided mostly to suggest the shark's presence, employing an ominous and minimalist theme created by composer John Williams to indicate its impending appearances. Spielberg and others have compared this suggestive approach to that of director Alfred Hitchcock. Universal Pictures' release of the film to over 450 screens was an exceptionally wide release for a major studio picture at the time, and it was accompanied by an extensive marketing campaign with a heavy emphasis on television spots and tie-in merchandise. Together they performed comedy across the nation until they set their sights on producing television and feature films.Under his Broken Lizard banner, Jay directed and co-wrote Fox Searchlight Picture's comedy cult classics Super Troopers, Super Troopers 2, Club Dread, and Warner Bros' Beerfest. He also directed the Broken Lizard comedy special, Broken Lizard Stands Up.Super Troopers hit theaters in February 2002 and went on to gross $23 million with glowing audience reviews (and $80 million on home video.)Jay continued on to direct The Dukes of Hazard, direct and star in Millennium Entertainment's The Babymakers, and appear in DreamWorks' comedy hit, I Love You, Man. Recently, Chandrasekhar published his book, Mustache Shenanigans: Making Super Troopers and Other Adventures in Comedy that gives a behind the scenes look at the making of Super Troopers. In addition to his feature film work, Chandrasekhar has directed various TV shows, including several episodes of the Emmy Award winning series Arrested Development, Community, Chuck, The Grinder, Up All Night, Happy Endings, New Girl, and Psych. More recently, Jay has also directed episodes of Fresh Off the Boat, The Goldbergs, Speechless, and Schooled. His new film is Easter Sunday.Stand-up comedy sensation Jo Koy (Jo Koy: In His Elements, Jo Koy: Comin' in Hot) stars as a man returning home for an Easter celebration with his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family, in this love letter to his Filipino-American community. Easter Sunday features an all-star comedic cast that includes Jimmy O. The film is produced by Rideback's Dan Lin (The Lego Movie franchise, It franchise) and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin, The Two Popes), and is executive produced by Jo Koy, Jessica Gao, Jimmy O. Yang, Ken Cheng, Joe Meloche, Nick Reynolds and Seth William Meier. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures domestically. Amblin Partners and Universal will share international distribution rights.Jay also just launched a new app designed to give the power of reviews back to the people. It's call Vouch Vault."When my film, Super Troopers, showed at Sundance, it played to big laughing crowds. But when it was released to the public, the reviews were only so-so. On Rotten Tomatoes, Super Troopers, got a 38%-fresh aggregate score from less than a hundred reviewers. With the public, though, the film garnered a 90% fresh rating from more than 250,000 non-reviewers. This 38% reviewer-number stuck in my craw. I remember thinking, “Who are these reviewers, these strangers with outsized power, and why are we listening to them? Seriously. When's the last time you walked up to a stranger and said, “Hey, what movie should I see?”Our goal with Vouch Vault is to take recommendation power from anonymous strangers and give it to the people whose tastes you know and trust."Enjoy my conversation with Jay Chandrasekhar.

Golgothan Guastini Special Effects Get M.A.D. with Chris Graves 8-28-2022 Vincent GuastiniThis podcast is uncut and slightly longer than the standard one-hour show we usually get from Chris.Notes By Chris Graves:I'd like to welcome motion picture/television makeup & special effects master, Vincent J. Guastini! I once had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Guastini in 2007, for filmmaker Kevin Smith's official news website, Newsaskew, now defunct, unfortunately.Vincent started his own special make-up effects company at the age of 22, originally in New Jersey and New York for 15 years, and then later in Hollywood for 19 years. Specializing in prosthetics, creature effects, design, and animatronics. His big breakthrough film came in 1991 when asked to take over the prosthetic effects for Michael Mann's 60-million dollar film "The Last of the Mohicans" for 20th Century Fox. After this film, Vincent went on to supervise and design creature effects for various studio and independent films. In 2001 Vincent moved his company to the West Coast and is now one of the top effects & design studios in Hollywood where Vincent lives and is based for the past 20 years.Vincent's practical effects work is mostly known for his 30-plus years in the business of creating the groundbreaking animatronic wings and creature effects in Kevin Smith's film "Dogma" and for Darren Aronofsky's film, "Requiem for a Dream", he designed sculpted and applied prosthetics changing Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Burstyn into a thinning decaying woman. The prosthetic transformation made Vincent an Oscar hopeful that year and is looked at as one of the most convincing transformations in prosthetic makeup history for subtlety and realism. He later worked with Aronofsky again on the film "Aftermath" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger where Vincent's team created silicone bodies for a graphic plane crash.Guastini's other groundbreaking effects include the first use of silicone technology with fire victim effects for Clint Eastwood's "Letters of Iwo Jima" and "Flags of Our Father". Other films include the Bryan Singer-produced horror film hit "The Taking of Deborah Logan". With the help of prosthetic silicone appliances and puppets, Vincent and his team transformed actress Jill Larson into a crazed demonic possessed creature.Film History & Background:V.G.P. Film & TV Projects: Vincent's film and T.V. credits include either as an effects technician, or supervisor and designer are, Dogma, Requiem for a Dream, The Last Of The Mohicans, Letters Of Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Father, Stephen King's Langoliers, Stephen Kings Thinner, Stephen Kings Mr. Mercedes, World War Z, Scary Movie 4, Super Mario Bros The Movie, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Child's Play 3, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Virus, Man On The Moon, The Taking of Deborah Logan, V/H/S/ Viral, Cabin Fever Patient Zero, Sushi Girl, The Devil's Carnival 1& 2, Till Death, Silent Night, Night of The Tommyknockers, NIX", Saturday Night Live, Third Watch, Dr. Phil Show, The Howard Stern Show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, Law and Order, Conan O'Brien, Animal Planet's Lost Tapes, Comedy Central's This is Not Happening, and the Get Shorty T.V. It's the 3rd week in a row! I'm knocking out some heavy hitting interviews/conversations this season and this episode absolutely falls in line with the evolution that's occurring with the podcast. This one is centered around an actress that is truly on her way to the next level & her latest film that it's theaters right now. There are summer films that will get your attention, then there are movies that are summer blockbusters. The latest Will Packer Productions & Universal Pictures film, “Beast” is centered on a single father bringing his two daughters to Africa to build their relationship after their mother has passed. Idris Elba is doing his best to connect with his daughters, played by Leah Jefferies and Iyana Halley, but on a tour of a restricted area encounters one of the most feared animals in the world, a lion. How far will a father go to protect the only people in the world worth dying over? I was able to catch up with one of the stars of the film, Iyana Halley, as the movie has been out for 2 weeks & has received great reviews from audiences. And from her roles in TV and movies such as “This Is Us“, “Abbott Elementary“, & “True To The Game” just to name a few, she's got her sights on continuing to be a force in Hollywood. In this in depth interview, we discuss: Her acting career working alongside veteran actors/actresses such as Sterling K. Brown & Vivica A. Fox Working to expand her brand outside of acting How she feels about manifesting in her own life What she brought into the role of Meredith for “Beast” & co-starring with Idris Elba Addressing the latest story about how Idris Elba's daughter didn't get the role she was casted for What she would tell herself now from where she is currently What project she would like to take on next You can follow her on social media: @theiyanahalley & @iyanahalley. I'll be taking Labor Day Monday off, but rest assure I'll be back the following Monday with another great episode of the WDIDN podcast. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/therealsix5/message

Really that should read "Jaws!!!"  Blake, Kofi & Rich enthusiastically sink their teeth into Steven Spielberg's early masterwork,  based on the novel by Peter Benchley. We talk about what makes the movie timeless and what separates it from so many thrillers. It's far more than a scary movie, mostly because of the trio of heroes played by Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw. They're a motley crew - each displaying flaws or fears but also some admirable and familiar qualities. We also make mention of the fact that Jaws essentially started the myth of sharks as bad actors. Chris & Kelsey pledge school societies where they live by the melodrama and die by the melodrama. The Classic Film: The Skulls (2000) "For Luke McNamara, an invitation to join the prestigious secret college organization, The Skulls, is a dream come true, until murder befalls another student” (Mill Creek Entertainment). The Skulls is not a horror movie, sorry. Instead, it's Baby's First Thriller, like a novel adapted into a children's picture book. But if you stick it out, the extreme goofiness might be enough to have you thinking it's so bad that it's good. The Modern Film: Initiation (2020) "Whiton University unravels the night a star-athlete is murdered, kicking off a spree of social media slayings that force students to uncover the truth behind the school's hidden secrets and the horrifying meaning of an exclamation point” (IMDb.com). Initiation is a strikingly shot and acted drama going through a pretty paint-by-numbers horror plot that becomes a mishmash of incredible, mediocre, and even inept moments, making it difficult to recommend despite being... kinda good, I guess? Nope is a 2022 American science fiction horror film written, directed, and co-produced by Jordan Peele under his Monkeypaw Productions banner. Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, and Brandon Perea, it follows two ranch-owning siblings who attempt to capture evidence of an UFO. Peele officially announced his then-untitled third directorial film in November 2020. Palmer and Kaluuya joined in February 2021, with Yeun being cast the next month, and Peele revealed the title in July 2021. Filming took place during fall 2021 in northern Los Angeles county, wrapping in November. The title was rumored to be an acronym for "Not of Planet Earth" or "Not Our Planet Earth" based on the movie poster, but Peele later revealed that the title refers to the reaction he hoped to elicit from audiences. Nope premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on July 18, 2022, and was wide-released in the United States four days later by Universal Pictures. It has grossed over $116 million on a $68 million budget, and received praise for its ambition, performances, cinematography, and direction, although the screenplay polarized critics. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Today's show is a review and discussion of Scott Derrickson's coming-of-age horror thriller film, The Black Phone.Joe King is an American author better known by the pen name Joe Hill.  He chose the pen name after not wanting to capitalize on his father's name, the legendary author Stephen King.  Hill's first novel was a collection of short stories that was first published in October 2005 in the United Kingdom titled “20th Century Ghosts.”  Saddled right in the middle of this collection is the 30-page short story called The Black Phone.  Originally published in the Autumn 2004 edition of The Third Alternative, a quarterly published high production magazine that features cutting-edge speculative fiction, The Black Phone tells the story of child abduction by a man aptly called “The Grabber.”  Trapped in a basement room, the boy's only hope lies in a mysterious disconnected black phone that hangs on the basement wall.  When the phone rings, the child hears the whispers of the kidnapper's previous, and now dead, victims.  Produced by horror powerhouse Blumhouse studios and distributed by Universal Pictures, Scott Derrickson's adaptation of this short story turned into a major motion picture leaned into his own middle school experience growing up in the 1970s in Denver, Colorado.  The film incorporates many items from Derrickson's memory of that period, including the overcast skies, chain link fences, and the violence that existed for him inside and outside the home. In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam-packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with Kenny and Del as they get into The Black Phone.Tom Savini Black Phone Mask creation:  https://ew.com/movies/black-phone-mask-tom-savini-scott-derrickson-interview/  Screenrant Black Phone Article:  https://screenrant.com/black-phone-ending-explained-meaning/ Amazon Black Mask:  https://www.amazon.com/Costume-Grabber-Halloween-Cosplay-Masquerade/dp/B0B2CSQ41R/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2JQ8NTBD00UIE&keywords=black%2Bphone%2Bmask&qid=1660708924&s=instant-video&sprefix=black%2Bphone%2Bmask%2Cinstant-video%2C233&sr=1-1-catcorr&th=1Thanks for listening and feel free to hit us up on any of our social media platforms!https://linktr.ee/BiAPodcastTheme song "Loli'ana" written and performed by award-winning musician Kamuela Kahoano.   Listen to more of Kamuela's music on iTunes and https://kamuelamusic.com/.  Also, "Loli'ana" performed live at The Ko'olau Banquet Hall can be seen here https://youtu.be/YDJ1NNJgEiA  If you enjoyed our show, subscribe and check out our new shows that drop every Friday.  Also, new this year, our non-routine Anniversary Specials, which are 30 minute shows that pay tribute to a movie celebrating a significant anniversary.
