The first Star Wars film in seven years just hit cinemas—and it works as a complete standalone. Pedro Pascal is the gruff dad bounty hunter, but the animatronic creature steals every scene. It's packed with action, hilarious moments, and surprisingly emotional beats. Netflix just dropped a three-part documentary about one of pop culture's biggest icons. It covers her early life in Australia, her rise to fame, past relationships, cancer diagnoses (including one she kept secret), and failed IVF journeys. It's glossy, emotional, and genuinely riveting—even if you're not already a superfan, you'll be by the end. Plus, the Duffer Brothers have executive produced an eight-episode gem about retirees in a desert retirement community discovering a sinister entity attacking residents. The cast is absolutely stacked, and it's genuinely creepy, chaotic, and emotional. Completely binge-worthy. Richard Gere (Pretty Woman, Chicago, American Gigolo) plays Martin Vale, a hot-shot Chicago attorney who just landed his latest high-profile case, the suspected brutal murder of the Archbishop by a rural teenager from Kentucky who was apparently working for the Archbishop. The young suspect is the mild-mannered Aaron Stampler who is played by Oscar-nominee Edward Norton (Fight Club, 25th Hour, A Complete Unknown) in his on big-screen debut which he also received an Oscar nomination for. At first, Aaron seems mild-mannered and innocent....but there's more to him than he seems. :o What results is a wild courtroom drama with lots of twists and turns, also featuring a stacked supporting cast featuring Oscar-nominee Laura Linney, Oscar-nominee Alfre Woodard, Emmy-nominee John Mahnoney, Emmy-nominee Andre Braugher, and Oscar-winner Frances McDormand. This week on White Pants, Trash-Staches and Leaning Lloyd®:Greg and Joe are joined by special guest David Hallgren (a true Gray Man expert who's seen this movie 11 times) to dive into the Russo Brothers' 2022 action spectacular — a $200 million Netflix gamble that continues to pay out for roughly 2 people on this episode. Ryan Gosling plays Sierra Six, a CIA black ops mercenary who uncovers agency secrets and becomes the target of every assassin on the planet. Leading the hunt? Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a sociopathic former colleague with white linen pants, a trash-stache, and zero regard for anyone else. Also featuring Ana de Armas, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, and DRONES. SO MANY DRONES. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a Mark Greaney novel, this movie delivers massive action set pieces from Austria to Prague to Croatia — including a mid-air plane explosion that happens 30 minutes in (because why wait for the finale?), and a Prague square shootout where a man handcuffed to a bench somehow survives thousands of bullets. Is it the greatest bad movie ever made? Joe thinks it might be top three. Is it a little too CGI-muddy for Greg's taste? Absolutely, but he's coming around.Does it feature Chris Evans saying "I shot him" with the most gleeful delivery in cinema history? You're darn right it does.Greg, Joe, and David discuss leaning Lloyd, the art of the trash-stache, why Alpha Teams One through Three can't hit anything, and whether this franchise would be better in someone else's hands. They also discover that this movie gave them five new tropes, from "busting a gas line" to "gun in fancy foam box" to "talking about missing vital organs."As with every episode, this is the conversation that needed to happen about this movie. Also: Drinking Games (prepare for trope overload), Very Important Questions, Joe's Real Back of the Box (with a bonus alternate version from their lost first recording), and more.If you'd like to advertise with us or sponsor us, please e-mail greatbadmoviesshow@gmail.comSubscribe to Great Bad Movies wherever you listen to podcastsMore Great Bad Movies online:InstagramGreat Bad Movies WebsiteYouTubeEmail us at greatbadmoviesshow@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. Marina Stabile is a Brazilian-born, Swiss-raised producer and line producer with over 20 years of experience in film, documentaries, commercials, and digital content. She is also one of my favorite humans and I'm lucky I get to call her a friend. She grew up in São Paulo, moved to Geneva at 10, attended an international school with 118 nationalities, and knew she wanted to produce after watching the Irving Thalberg Award presented at 3 a.m. on an Oscar broadcast. She studied film and international relations at USC, produced documentaries for the United Nations in Geneva, and returned to the U.S. to earn her MFA in producing at AFI, where her thesis film The Response won a Student BAFTA. Marina's credits span indie and studio, including Miguel Arteta's Beatriz at Dinner starring Salma Hayek, the Sundance Grand Jury Prize–winning Clemency starring Alfre Woodard, Harrison Ford's The Call of the Wild (as VFX supervisor), Searchlight's Hold Your Breath starring Sarah Paulson, The People We Hate at the Wedding, and the pandemic-shot Untitled Horror Movie alongside fellow producer Bronwyn Cornelius. Most recently, she produced Josephine — written and directed by Beth de Araújo and starring Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan — which won both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival before being acquired by Sumerian Pictures in a competitive seven-figure deal. The film went on to screen in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival. In this conversation, we explore how culture impacts your craft, define once and for all what line producers really do, why the best career moves sometimes look like steps backward, and whether Los Angeles is still a special place to make movies. Enjoy!! CG
Britney Spears has declared she'll never perform in the United States again and Kelly & Sharon unpack what that could really mean. They also discuss Britney's support of her son's musical talent and why she's open to potentially performing with him in the UK and Australia. The conversation continues with Salt-N-Pepa's legal battle over control of their music masters, which didn't go the way they hoped. Kelly & Sharon explain the ruling and discuss why younger artists must fully understand contracts and seek proper legal advice before signing deals that can affect their careers long term. Kelly & Sharon also celebrate Angela Bassett, who will receive a prestigious award from the American Black Film Festival Honors and reflect on why she was such a powerful presence in the 90s - from her iconic arms to her unforgettable portrayal of Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It? Kelly also shares her dream of seeing Angela Bassett, Alfre Woodard, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer together in one film. Plus, Sarah Jessica Parker is honored with the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes, prompting a conversation about her self-awareness, gratitude, and work ethic throughout her career. Also in this episode: • Kelly's life-changing hot water bottle from Ireland (Sharon remains skeptical) • Question of the Week: When do you take down or turn off your outdoor Christmas lights? • Kelly's Trivia • Sharon's 90's Rewind takes you back to 1994 If you love 90s nostalgia, music industry insight, and pop-culture conversation, make sure to follow, rate, and share 90's NOW. Scrooged (1988) is an American Christmas fantasy black comedy directed by Richard Donner and written by Mitch Glazer and Michael O'Donoghue. Inspired by Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, it offers a metafictional modern retelling starring Bill Murray as Frank Cross, a cynical TV executive preparing a live broadcast of A Christmas Carol who is visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve. The supporting cast includes Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, Michael J. Pollard, and Alfre Woodard.Produced on a $32 million budget and filmed in New York City and Hollywood from December 1987 to March 1988, the film marked Murray's return after a four-year hiatus following Ghostbusters. Production was turbulent due to creative clashes between Murray and Donner, though the film featured numerous celebrity cameos, including Murray's brothers. Marketed heavily around Murray's ghost-themed persona, Scrooged was released November 23, 1988, grossed over $100 million worldwide, and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup. Though critics were mixed, it has since become a Christmastime staple and is often cited as an unconventional or ahead-of-its-time holiday classic.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Send us a textKatie and Bridget cheer on Mary Lou Retton doing backflips as Tiny Tim as they re-watch the WEIRD 80's movie: Scrooged! It's one of the strangest adaptations of A Christmas Carol and we blame BILL MURRAY JUST. CAUSE! Come along as we meet Frank - aka Scrooge, who is a jerk for about 90% of this movie, so much so that a grandma dies offscreen because of his horrible advertisement commercial that reminds us of A Manson Family Christmas. Aka, how television and media basically is today! When he gets visited by three ghosts to help teach him what it means to be kind (and to also kick him in the balls multiple times), he learns that Christmas isn't about television or making money... It's about reconnecting with your long lost girlfriend who really should have just ignored your missed call and/or replied to you with a "who dis?" message! We've got a movie that feels like it should have been directed by Tim Burton with lots of Bill Murray ad-libbing that you'll definitely want to take an edible for this holiday season! Released in 1988, it stars Bill Murray, Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, David Johansen, Carol Kane, Alfre Woodard, and Robert Mitchum.
In Alaska's endless white, a small town sheriff hunts escaped convicts through blizzards and betrayal, only to uncover a web of CIA secrets and buried love that refuses to stay frozen. Yes, the '90s action vibes are strong with Apple TV+'s “The Last Frontier,, a wintry chase thriller where a quiet Alaskan town becomes a pressure cooker. Planes fall out of the sky, fugitives scatter into the wild, and a local deputy with a past shoulders more than his share of the storm. It's lean, charged, and undoubtedly built to binge. The series stars Jason Clarke, Haley Bennett, Dominic Cooper, Alfre Woodard, and more.Joining Bingeworthy for this episode covering “The Last Frontier” are Jason Clarke (star and executive producer) and Jon Bokenkamp (writer, producer, and showrunner). Throughout our conversations, they delve into throwback influences, the human heartbeat beneath the chaos, and why the show's most memorable moments aren't always the loudest ones.During the interviews, Jon Bokenkamp is quick to openly call the series a love letter to high-concept '90s summer action thrillers, the kind you can pitch in one sentence and feel in your bones like “Con Air” and “Point Break.” “It's really a high-concept idea,” Jon said. “Most of those films that inspired it, you can say in one sentence, ‘here's the elevator version,' and you go, ‘I get it.' A little action heavy, slightly heightened, maybe turned up to 11 or 12.”
On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, Apple TV's new series The Last Frontier has arrived, and it prompted a conversation about the impact of filming locations. The locations we have seen on film or TV that prompted us to travel the country or the world and see more of it, and why. Following that up, we have our review of The Last Frontier, Apple's crime thriller where U.S. Marshall Frank Remnick (Jason Clarke) pursues a group of escaped convicts in an Alaskan wilderness, with Haley Bennett and Alfre Woodard involved to elaborate a potential conspiracy in what brought the plane down in the first place. Joining us to discuss his new series, is The Last Frontier creator Jon Bokenkamp (The Blacklist) in an interview that discusses why he created a series set in Alaska (along with Richard D'Ovidio), where the show is headed, and much more! Episode 592 - Joe McClean - Screenwriter, Author and Director - Putting Yourself Out There and Into Your Story, That is Where the Opportunity LiesJoe made a bunch of short films and one feature length movie with friends and no money. To this day, I enjoy watching those early attempts to craft a story, but essentially this era of on-the-job-training was my film school. Now it was time to take my first big swing. I wrote a script I felt I could raise enough money to shoot myself, a found-footage film, and I spent a year begging for cash and favors. The star of a hit TV show, who had gone to the same high school as me, graciously agreed to act in it. An NBA player made a small investment. Actor, comedian, and Late Show with David Letterman regular, Jay Thomas agreed to make a cameo. The snowball was growing and eventually I scraped together enough cash to direct Life Tracker. The movie played over 20 science fiction conventions and got a digital distribution deal with Charter Communications (now Spectrum) and streamed into millions of American homes.Life Tracker Great! Now I needed a follow up to prove that my work ethic couldn't be mistaken for beginner's luck. Taking advantage of a group of talented actor friends and another who owned property outside of Fresno, I wrote and directed a super-low-budget homage to The Big Chill called The Drama Club which can currently be seen on Tubi. The Drama Club Looking back from that point, I could see the years of work I'd put in. Meeting people. Working with casts and crews. Going on adventures together. taking risks and building trust. Jobs started to fall into place. I signed my first manager. I joined the Writers Guild of America. I pitched big shot producers at legacy studios and powerhouse production companies. Always searching for that next opportunity. That's when I met Blair Underwood. A business lunch turned into an attachment (and a friendship), and soon I was hitting up everyone I'd ever done business with to see who wanted to join the team.Viral was written and produced by me, it's directed by and stars Blair, and he shares the screen with Sarah Silverman, Jeanine Mason, and the incomparable Alfre Woodard! The movie is finished and we're actively working with our sales team to bring it to audiences. In the mean time, I'm working with Amistad (an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing) on a two-book deal titled Sins of Survivors about the plight of a family who lived in the once vital African American neighborhood of Black Bottom in 1930s and 40s Detroit. The first book is currently available everywhere books are sold, and the second hits shelves in the summer of 2026... This is the story of Monica and Quincy who both grow up next door to each other in Southern California, apparently enamored of two things: the game of basketball and each other. And as they grow up, they both develop into excellent basketball players and we also watch as their relationship develops. Omar Epps (Higher Learning, Juice) eventually plays Quincy who is the son of a retired pro basketball player (Dennis Heysbert) and has aspirations of following in his father's footsteps. And Sanaa Lathan (Brown Sugar, Alien Vs. Predator) eventually plays Monica who is trying to develop into a pro basketball player despite her mother's (Alfre Woodard) concerns about there being no future in it. What results is both a love story and sports drama which spans over fifteen years and has built quite up a devoted following since it was first released in the Spring of 2000 to solid reviews and box office. What better time to review this beloved basketball drama directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King) than JUST in time for March Madness? :) Send us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

We're deep into our second annual Christmas movie theme and we haven't mined any material from, or inspired by, the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol”. Fuck it, this year we'll do two adaptations and maybe catch an old version of the story next year. This particular adaptation was prime basic cable Christmas break material when we were kids and in many ways it holds up and even impresses in certain ways. Bill Murray could carry a comedy in the 80s and his leading role of a stingy TV executive Scrooge-stand-in does deliver some quality jokes bouncing off of an extended comedic cast. Richard Donner's 1988 Christmas comedy “SCROOGED” remains pretty worthy holiday cheer and there's no shortage of prime 80s stars including Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, David Johansen, Alfre Woodard and Karen Allen. There's also some nice appearances from veteran actors of TV and film such as Robert Mitchum, John Forsythe, John Houseman and Buddy Hackett. Miles Davis is even in this thing. Folks, you gotta bring out the bells and whistles when you're adapting a story that everybody knows. You gotta throw some horror in there. Maybe even a little sadism. Just go with it.
