In her new essay collection, Maybe It's Me: On Being the Wrong Kind of Woman (Delphinium Books 2022), Eileen Pollack covers her life in snippets or by delving into history, but the overall picture is of an extremely talented writer, a brilliant woman with a degree in physics and a long list of respected publications who is still somewhat bewildered to find herself alone. She tells stories about her childhood home, her grandparents, her father the dentist, her mother's closets, her ex-husband who thought his work took precedence, her son who turned into a socialist, and assorted neighbors, friends, and men who drifted through her life. In her distinctive voice, she sometimes slips humor into the most horrendous situations, maybe because that's how she survived. This is an author who dissects her thoughts, words, and actions without worrying about having a big bow to tie it all together. Eileen Pollack is a writer whose novel Breaking and Entering, about the deep divisions between blue and red America, was named a 2012 New York Times Editor's Choice selection. Her essay, “Why Are There Still So Few Women in Science?” was published in the Sunday, October 6, 2013, issue of The New York Times Magazine and went viral; the essay is an excerpt from her investigative memoir The Only Woman in the Room: Why Science Is Still A Boys' Club, published in 2015 by Beacon Press. A native of the Catskill Mountains, Eileen also is the author of the novels The Bible of Dirty Jokes and Paradise, New York, as well as two collections of short fiction, In the Mouth and The Rabbi in the Attic. Her innovative work of creative nonfiction called Woman Walking Ahead: In Search of Catherine Weldon and Sitting Bull was made into a major motion picture starring Jessica Chastain, Sam Rockwell, and Michael Greyeyes. A long-time faculty member and former director of the Helen Zell MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan, she now lives in Boston and offers her services as a freelance editor and writing coach. This episode we take a look at the latest King adaptation with Firestarter. It's so good, Scott didn't even bother watching it, leaving Jason and Monica to face the flames alone. Firestarter is a 2022 American science fiction thriller film directed by Keith Thomas, from a screenplay by Scott Teems, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King and serving as a remake of the 1984 film adaptation. The film stars Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley, Michael Greyeyes, and Gloria Reuben. It is produced by Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman under their Blumhouse Productions and Weed Road Pictures banners, respectively, alongside BoulderLight Pictures and Angry Adam Pictures.
You may remember the 1984 adaption of Firestarter starring Drew Barrymore. Here's the remake. Directed by Keith Thomas, Firestarter is the science fiction thriller film based on novel of the same name by Stephen King. For more than a decade, parents Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction. Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family's location, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes) is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.

During this year's Noscar Awards Andras nonminated “Wild Indian” as one of the year's best films and actor Chaske Spencer for giving one of the year's best performances. Written & Directed by Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr. Starring Michael Greyeyes, Chaske Spencer, Jesse Eisenberg, Kate Bosworth, Scott Haze, Julian Gopal & Phoenix Wilson How is the world wrong about Wild Indian? From Andras: This tense and provocative crime thriller could justly be labeled a “native noir”. Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr's feature film debut focuses on two men from the rez who, following a deadly crime in their childhood, take distinctly divergent paths into adulthood. When the one who stayed behind, suffering tremendous guilt, begins divulging their crime, the other, who left the reservation for a life in the corporate white world, has to embody the film's title in ways that leave the viewer with more questions than answers. Anne Brodie has the latest in entertainment this week with her thoughts on Wildwood with Michael Greyeyes, Phoenix Rising about Evan Rachel Wood's abusive relationship with Brian Warner aka Marilyn Manson, and the much anticipated The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds on Netflix. PLUS she's back later in the show with an interview with the fabulous Cassandra Freeman from the new show Bel-Air based on the 90s comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The last couple of years have been filled with anger and divisiveness on just about everything in our society and it's wearing us all down. In an attempt to turn things around and build community, Catherine Dunphy is asking people to look for the good all around them and #amplifykindness on social media whenever you see somebody being kind or alternatively when you do something kind. By shifting our focus to the helping instead of hurting, we can move together towards a brighter future. Denise Chand from The Sacred Space joins me for the third instalment on getting your life unstuck. In this week's interview we take a closer look at taking a closer look at ourselves. From processing disappointment to assessing our thoughts and behaviours, Denise shares why the biggest key to getting unstuck starts with Betrayal, believe it or not, can be an opportunity and Stéphanie Rourke Jackson, founder of Beacon Coaching &Leadership is joining me today to discuss how. While admittedly there is pain when betrayal happens, Stephanie, through lived experience, wants you to know that you can move on together with the person who betrayed you and step into a better life together. As we head into 2022, we celebrate some of the Indigenous leaders and changemakers who shared their stories and wisdom on Unreserved over the past year. As cultural guardians who are breaking down barriers, they deserve a little pomp and circumstance. We revisit conversations with Cree actor and director Michael Greyeyes, novelist Angeline Boulley, Anishinaabemowin learner and teacher Emmaline Beauchamp, Inuit leaders and climate activists Natan Obed, Lisa Koperqualuk and Brian Pottle, and former senator and chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Murray Sinclair. In Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr's debut feature film Wild Indian follows Makwa, a young Anishinaabie boy, looking for a way to escape his troubled life by playing with his friend Ted-O. One day Makwa shockingly murders a schoolmate, and the two boys cover it up. Now as adults, the two men must come to terms with what happened. Decades after covering up his classmate's murder, Michael (Michael Greyeyes) has moved on from his reservation and fractured past. When a man who shares his violent secret seeks vengeance, Michael goes to great lengths to protect his new life with his wife (Kate Bosworth) and boss (Jesse Eisenberg) from the demons of his past. Director Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr. joins us to talk about his debut feature film that showcases an amazing performance by Michael Greyeyes that brings to life a scathing study of trauma, anger, conciliated redemption in the context of “making it” in a colonial society. The Peacock sitcom Rutherford Falls, which follows a conflict over a historical statue in a small town, is notable for a few reasons, besides its timely topic. It's the latest project from Mike Schur and it marks Ed Helms' return to TV. But it also centers several Native American characters (played by Jana Schmieding and Michael Greyeyes), boasts what NBCUniversal claims is "one of the largest Indigenous writer's rooms on television," and is led by co-creator Sierra Teller Ornelas, who is the first Native American showrunner of a television comedy.

All that plus, still being recognized as Jerry’s girlfriend Winona on Seinfeld, getting flown to New York for one line on The Sopranos, and her friendship with Hollywood icon Ernest Borgnine.
