Micke on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 1pm PST 11/10/22   About Micke - In 1998, Micke co-founded Liquid Lounge (now known as Liquid Lounge SoundSystem), with good friend & long-time business partner, Erik Johnson, known as EJ. Together they formed a DJ collective & promotion group, which was led by Contrast, Micke & EJ's tag team name. As part of Contrast, Micke was regularly playing some of the most notable venues on the East Coast.   Micke gained notoriety as a sound & lighting tech for Primacy, a major venue owner in DC — most notably at Club Five and Nation — Micke's hard work and dedication was recognized by Scott Henry, the founder of Buzz, who hired him onto his management team. Buzz was one of the most well known and influential weekly club events in rave history.   Thanks to Buzz, Micke's talent was quickly noticed by some of the biggest names in Electronic Music including: Sasha, Hybrid, The Crystal Method, Tarantella & Redanka, Paul Oakenfold, BT, Judge Jules, Max Graham, Armin Van Helden, Dave Ralph, Deep Dish, PVD, Chris Fortier, Carl Cox, Scott Dixon, DJ Dan, Scott Henry, Charles Feelgood, DJ Keoki, and Donald Glaude to name a few…. and of course, Sandra Collins.   Micke earned a Buzzlife residency, putting him and his collective, Liquid Lounge, in regular main room rotation at Buzz. It was then that Sandra Collins noticed his skills, and requested Micke as her opening DJ whenever she played at Nation.   On top of an active performance schedule, Micke was grinding for Deep Dish and their online label site, Yoshitoshi Records, as Customer Service Manager & Assistant Music Purchaser, under the direction of Alex Whalen, General Manager of Yoshitoshi Records (Store) and Yoshitoshi.com. In 2006, Micke took a hiatus from performing to focus on honing his production skills.   Now, he's surging back, hitting the scene heavy with original tracks & collaborations with such artists as Sandra Collins, Scott Dixon (Voyager), & Andy Woldman. He has continued to evolve his 20 year music partnership with EJ, as Temporal Mental, in parallel to his solo career. Micke represents District Ignition, Buzzlife Productions and Liquid Lounge SoundSystem, which are stables from his Washington, D.C. roots.   In late 2017, Micke's collaboration with Sandra Collins began to shine. As of November 2018, Sandra & Micke have signed 9 original tracks along with 3 remixes across 4 different labels. These labels include: Perfecto Black, Pro B Tech Music, Stripped Digital, & Stripped Recordings.   Emerging in Washington, D.C. twenty years ago, in the prime of the rave era, Micke was a talented & bright, yet unknown artist in an overgrowing sea of bedroom DJ's. In 1998, Micke co-founded Liquid Lounge (now known as Liquid Lounge SoundSystem), with good friend & long-time business partner, Erik Johnson, known as EJ. Together they formed a DJ collective & promotion group, which was led by Contrast, Micke & EJ's tag team name.    As part of Contrast, Micke was regularly playing some of the most notable venues on the East Coast. Micke gained notoriety as a sound & lighting tech for Primacy, a major venue owner in DC — most notably at Club Five and Nation — Micke's was recognized by Scott Henry, the founder of Buzz, who hired him onto his management team. Micke became a Buzz resident with regular, main room rotations. It was then that Sandra noticed his skills, requesting Micke as her opening DJ whenever she played at Nation.    While playing regularly, Micke also grinded for Deep Dish's Yoshitoshi Records, alongside mentor, Alex Whalen. In '06, Micke took time away from DJing to focus on his production skills. Now, he's back performing & working with such artists as: Sandra Collins, Voyager, & Charlie May, in parallel to his solo production & performance career. In fact, as of Dec 2018, Sandra & Micke have signed 9 tracks along with 3 remixes across 4 different labels. These labels include: Perfecto Black, Pro B Tech Music, Stripped Digital, & Stripped Recordings.    In support of these releases, the duo started a national tour beginning in Spring 2019. - Micke is a affiliated with District Ignition, Liquid Lounge, & Buzzlife, WDC - Bookings: facebook.com/djmicke         About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. This month on JHLT The Podcast, JHLT Digital Media Editor Van-Khue Ton, MD, takes over hosting duties to present two unique papers from the November issue of The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. Listen now to hear study authors discuss their work, their studies, and next steps for their research. First, we welcome first author Megan M. Collins, MD, about her team's study from the University of Utah entitled “Attitudes & practices surrounding pregnancy post heart transplantation among pediatric providers.” Dr. Collins shares her journey from being an undergraduate economics major to her current career in pediatrics, including how strategy and game theory have helped her better understand her patients and thrive during her pediatric cardiology fellowship. The study itself is exceptionally important as more pediatric heart transplant recipients reach adulthood and become interested in family planning. The study consisted of confidential and voluntary web surveys of pediatric heart transplant doctors, exploring their behaviors and policies around pregnancy and family planning. Next, R. James White, MD, from the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, shares details on the study “Contemporary Risk Scores Predict Clinical Worsening in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension – An Analysis of FREEDOM-EV.” Dr. White is the senior author on the study, and discusses how he became interested in risk scores for pulmonary arterial hypertension, including some of the exciting data that they reveal. Prior to this study, none of the event-driven trials in PAH had previously incorporated serial assessment of risk scores like hemodynamics, laboratory values, exercise tolerance, and symptoms at baseline. Using data from the FREEDOM-EV trial, the study retrospectively compared the discriminant power of 4 risk scores, REVEAL 2.0, REVEAL Lite 2, 4-strata COMPERA 2.0, and the non-invasive French risk assessment, in predicting patients' clinical worsening at baseline and at a 12-week follow up. You won't want to miss Dr. White's insights on this comparison! BEERS: Two unique reviews coming from us today. Will reviews a new creation from our friends at Providence Brewing Company…and they're “ice cold.” Frozen beers are all the rage in the summer, and PVD's lived up to their expectations. You can head to Providence Brewing to try either Strawberry Banana or Pina Colada! Jake reviews Bent Water Brewing's take on a White Ale - it was a bold attempt to Allagash's gold standard, but how does it fare up among a great selection of Bent Water's summer beers? BUSINESS: After a slow week last time, we discuss two big storylines that are affecting consumers. Amazon announced its intention to acquire iRobot - or, as you know it, the maker of the Roomba smart vacuum - for nearly $2 billion. We debate if this is a win for your smart home, or a win for “big data.” Also, we look into what other brands could potentially be acquired this year. In other news, if your flight is delayed longer than 3 hours, you could be entitled to financial compensation…if the DOT's new set of regulations goes through. The DOT proposed to force all airlines to give refunds to passengers under a few different circumstances that have affected nearly everyone that's flown these past two years. What does this mean for travelers in the near future? BALLS (32:08): JJ Gruden, long-time listener of the Small State Big Takes podcast and now friend of the House Enterprise community, joins the show. We discuss how JJ became known as “Taking the Points,” or “TTP,” on TikTok and Twitter. The summer has traditionally been a boring time to bet on sports, but TTP has taken advantage of a full baseball slate by betting the unders, and has made some coin in betting on a lack of offense. We also break down the upcoming football season: are we all out on the Cardinals? Can the Packers silence the haters? Are the 49ers a playoff-worthy team? Finally, we select our House Parlay - make sure you play along with us and bet it (responsibly) if legal in your state. We're proud to present Manscaped as our latest partner!
