The gang's all here this week! They cover White Lotus through Episode 5, Death of a Unicorn, Snow White, Nikki Glaser's recent tout, and The Electric State. Lauren is running late (you'll find out later) so Kevin and Andrew kick off the show discussing White Lotus through Episode 5. The season has been less than stellar in many ways and wildly controversial. The guys discuss a lot of what has made it less than successful and what's been working, as well as THAT scene with Sam Rockwell. While the season is finally trending upward, neither of the guys are super optimistic at this point. Andrew then takes us to the cinema with the latest A24 offering, Death of a Unicorn. While touting a solid cast, the movie somehow felt a little flat, which is not something we typically expect from an A24 offering. That said, some standout performances from Richard E. Grant and Anthony Carrigan made the film watchable, though maybe not worth rushing to the theater for. Having joined in the middle of Andrew's review of Death of a Unicorn, Lauren sticks with the fantastical and talks the new Snow White film. While Lauren doesn't feel like it's a bad film, it's not her favorite live action remake and Andrew argues that it probably SHOULD be, as it's a remake of the film that put Disney on the map. This also leads to some deeper philosophical discussion that is (probably) quite interesting. After this, Lauren takes a quick detour and talks about the stand-up show she just attended, the Nikki Glaser - Alive and Unwell Tour. She felt that it was maybe a little too "slice of life" as compared to funny, but all in all a solid show. Kevin closes the show with a quick rundown of The Electric State. Realistically, this is an OK film, but not something to get excited about. It has a fantastic cast and doesn't really do enough with it. It also steers away from the more bleak source material and goes with a more Starlord-y turn from Chris Pratt, making the film far too silly. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. This week we review Death of a Unicorn! Stay tuned to find out whether the laughs are real or mythological. Synopsis Paul Rudd plays the hapless single father Elliot to Jenna Ortega's, art history student Ridley. They both go on a work trip to a remote estate of Elliot's boss in a former wilderness preserve. While on driving there, they accidentally collide with a horse beast with a horn protruding out of it's head. Just a single horn. Like a uni-horn. When they try to hide the evidence from the CEO and his family, wacky low jinks ensue. Review of Death of a Unicorn While this film has an interesting premise and a good cast, the words that kept playing through my mind while watching this is “half baked”. Not like the wacky movie staring Jim Bruer and Dave Chappell, but more like a mouthful of hot brownie batter. It sounds good, but is actually disappointing. While there were a few situations in which I did laugh, they were few and far between, because what this horror comedy lacked most was jokes and bits. The characters were all 2 dimensional, which in a comedy can be counteracted with broad caricature, but the writing here attempts to be subtle and low key with poor results. In fact, Paul Rudd's character, ostensibly the second protagonist ends up being so wishy washy, that I was confused if he was supposed to be one of the villains. Jenna Ortega isn't as stone faced as usual, but she doesn't have much to work with here. In fact most of her dialogue felt like it must have read [fill in later]. Probably the most successfully subtle character is Anthony Carrigan's Griff the butler. There were some good gory death moments. The expected impalements are here. There are some good headsplosions. But it's not enough. I usually think it's a cop out to say a movie's CGI is bad, but for a movie dependent on monster design, they should have spent a little more time and money dialing in the unicorns. Score 4/10

The A24 Aesthetic: They'll discuss how Death of a Unicorn fits into A24's distinctive filmography and explore the studio's impact on contemporary cinema. Sure! Based on the transcript from Mindframes Episode 90 – "Death of a Unicorn", here are listener-friendly notes: Episode 90: Death of a Unicorn A Mindframes Film Conversation Guests:
On the latest episode of The Discourse, actor Will Poulter and writer-director Alex Scharfman joined host Mike DeAngelo to discuss their new A24 horror-comedy "Death of a Unicorn," a twisted genre mash-up that brings unicorns into the Spielbergian creature-feature fold. The film also stars Jenna Ortega, Paul Rudd, Téa Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, Richard E. Grant, and Sunita Mani, and tells the story of a tech billionaire's lawyer and his daughter who accidentally hit a unicorn with their car and attempt to cover it up at an elite corporate retreat. Magical madness, death, and more unicorn action ensue!Poulter, having taken a break from comedy in recent years, said he relished playing Shepard, an Ivy League-bred man-child desperate for approval and woefully out of touch. "It's really fun to be conscious of the fact that everyone's going to be laughing at you, and never with you," he said. "You sort of feel like he's never really left the various ivory towers that his family own around the world, but thinks he's superior to everyone around him.”READ MORE: ‘Death of a Unicorn' Review: Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd Make Monster Movie Magic for A24 [SXSW]Despite his delusions of grandeur, Poulter was careful not to strip Shep of all humanity. "I don't want to absolve him of wrongdoing, but ultimately what it boils down to is the child-parent relationship," he explained. "What Shep really wants more than anything is approval from his dad, and he wants his mom to be more honest with him than she's ever been."

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes For the first time since 1980, the grind in Hollywood has come to a near halt as actors in the union SAG-AFTRA officially went on strike last week. The Screen Actors Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers could not come to an agreement on a contract by the deadline at midnight last Wednesday. Some of the key bargaining aspects are: economic fairness - highlighting what the union says are outdated contract terms coupled with the evolution of the media business, The Union wants increased compensation, and shoring up of funding for health, retirement, and pension plans, as well as increased residuals. Artificial Intelligence - the union states that AI already provides a threat to their work as it can mimic their likenesses, performances, and voices, and are looking for protections that involve compensation and bargaining. Self-taped auditions - These, in the union's statement, are unregulated and out of control. There is a desire to ensure fair access to work opportunities and protect performers against exploitation. Emmy nominations have been formally announced and several shows are big winners including Wednesday (12), Barry (11), Beef (13), Dahmer (13), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (14), The Bear (13), The White Lotus (23), Ted Lasso (21), The Last of Us (24) and Succession (27). Happy Wine Wednesday! We're back with another installment in our Boozy Beginnings series. Candi joined me this week to talk about the pilot episode of the HBO series Barry. We kick off our discussion by talking about the opening scene in which we meet Barry who looks like he is struggling to feel satisfied in his career as an assassin. We also talk about how the writers very efficiently acquainted us with him via some well done exposition from Fuches. Barry is the show's namesake and undoubtedly the main character, but the interesting cast of characters is absolutely part of the charm of this series. In light of that, I ask Candi a few questions for sh*ts and giggles - including her thoughts about NoHo Hank. We love him! After a few Barry-inspired questions, we share what worked well in the pilot and whether there was anything that didn't work for us. If you're new to Barry, we try to further entice you to watch by sharing three words to describe the series. Have no fear, our discussion is spoiler free - nothing beyond the pilot episode. As always, we end with our thirsty thoughts. It's a Barry episode, so of course we swoon over Bill Hader.Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time. Find and follow Candi on Twitter here. One or two healthy chickens can significantly improve the health and prosperity of marginalized communities. Poultry recycle food scraps and garden waste, forage insects and worms to produce eggs which provide much needed protein and income. The Kyeema Foundation (https://kyeemafoundation.org/) is working with some of the world's poorest communities to protect household poultry from disease. Kyeema started out vaccinating village chickens across Africa and the Pacific to protect them from disease. They have more recently expanded into restoring coral reefs and mangroves to revitalise local fisheries. Small holder farmers provide food to around 80% of the world's population. It is only through developing a deep understanding of these communities and leveraging local expertise, traditions, and capacity that Kyeema can work to improve food and nutrition security for some of the poorest communities. There are more than 608 million family farms around the world, occupying between 70 and 80 percent of the world's farmland and producing around 80 percent of the world's food in value terms. Around 70 percent of all farms, operating on just 7 percent of all agricultural land, are less than one hectare, while another 14 percent of farms, controlling 4 percent of the land, are between one and two hectares, and another 10 percent of all farms, with 6 percent of the land, are between two and five hectares.https://www.fao.org/news/story/en/item/1395127/icode/I recently caught up with Anthony to hear how he and his team are improving the reliance and health of their communities through sustainable local protein production. You can hear our conversation here.
“Barry” star Anthony Carrigan sat down with Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk. In the newest episode, Carrigan talks about the fun of working with Bill Hader on the set of “Barry,” using his inner anger to play Victor Zsasz in “Gotham,” being a truly attractive person, and much more.

Welcome back to Alopecia Life and season 4. It's so great to be back, sharing about topics that are important to those of us living with autoimmune hair loss. I've been on a brief hiatus as I've been working on releasing a course for parents and caregivers of children living with alopecia. If you haven't yet checked out my website https://www.alopecialife.com/, feel free to head on over there to see what it's all about. I'm super excited to release episodes this season. Guests are always phenomenal, and I know they provide such great insight as they share their stories with all of us. I love talking about alopecia now, but throughout my life, as I lived with different levels of hair loss, I didn't want to talk about it at all. That all changed, when I met a group of friends who were living with alopecia too. Connection is important, for everyone, really. I know the last few years has really put that into perspective for the entire population. Connection to others, to not feeling alone, and so much more.No-one looks at what I do and wonders, "Gee. Why does she do this?" But some may wonder why I put my energy into very specific things. Head-On, Stories of Alopecia is 7 years old. I can't believe it's been out there for so long. When I didn't see a book that could provide inspiring stories and beautiful photos of people around the world living with alopecia - I knew it had to be done. When I was looking for podcasts that opened up conversations around alopecia and I didn't find something that fit - I decided to release one. Publishing a book and releasing a podcast didn't come easy for me. I knew nothing about either of them, and undeniably...they both had a steep learning curve. I had strong doubts, which I think was more about my evolving alopecia confidence, than anything else. Never talking about it, to always talking about it, and encouraging others to share their own stories so that each of us can help each other grow has become something that feeds my soul. To make those deep connections with text on the page or a voice through the airwaves. It's now part of who I am. Now, I'm adding something new. Something I care so deeply about that it's taken me over a year to create. My parents, who are awesome, didn't have a clue about alopecia. As we talked about before, there were very few to no resources when I was diagnosed. Over the last several years, as I've coached and mentored families, I've consistently heard the same questions and concerns that my own parents felt when I was diagnosed. I started wondering how I could help multiple people at once - families and children who were feeling lost, confused, and very alone. What would have helped my parents? What would have helped me and my sisters? How could I make it easier for these families so they didn't ultimately have to learn all of it on their own over several years or decades? Sometimes, we have to learn on our own to make the experience a better one. In this case, this added knowledge only gives you powerful options, a way forward in ways that make sense for you, your family, and your child. If we could have had a how-to model of doing alopecia, this would have been it. The Alopecia Roadmap course gives you video lessons that explain key knowledge, skills & resources, checklists to help navigate the first day of school, traveling, and doctor's appointments, and so much more. There are messages and knowledge from alopecia mentors, with a cameo appearance from Anthony Carrigan. Parents who have gone through the struggles have shared their letters to school and their insight about what to do in difficult situations so that you can be one step ahead. With anything I do, it's always a collaborative effort, and I'm so thankful for all who contributed their time and energy intoSupport the show
"Barry" has become one of the must-watch shows on television. With each season growing in its dark intensity, one character viewers have latched onto as a fan favorite is the hilarious NoHo Hank, played brilliantly by Emmy Award-nominee Anthony Carrigan. Carrigan had the opportunity to show new sides of the beloved character this year, resulting in some of the best reviews of his career and a second nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He was kind enough to spend a few minutes chatting with me about his work on the HBO show this year, what he was reacting to behind that prison wall in the season finale, working with Bill Hader, and more. HBO's hit comedy-action series, Barry, has returned for a third season. Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India, the TV show is about a hitman named Barry who gets involved in LA's theatre and art circle. Bill Hader essays the role of the titular character, and the SNL alum's performances received plaudits, as did the series, winning several accolades over the past few years. Let's get into some lesser-known trivia from the series. Let's begin.Alec Berg, who created the TV show, was skeptical that an action-comedy TV show would be funny or even be well received. However, co-creator and leading man Bill Hader, a popular comedian, asked him "well, what if the hitman was me?". And the rest as they say is history.Anthony Carrigan, who plays the role of NoHo Hank was supposed to be killed off after the pilot episode. But the creators decided to keep the character as Carrigan's comedic turn endeared him to the cast and crew. Hader came up with the idea for the second season in the most unlikely of places - while waiting in traffic on his way to a press event for season one. He pitched the idea to Alec Berg just minutes before the event commenced. Actress D'Arcy Carden, who plays Natalie, has known Bill Hader for several years. She has in fact worked for Hader as a nanny. A writer for another hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, once complained to Hader that the tone of the first few episodes of Barry was really dark. A bemused Hader responded by asking "you know you make Game of Thrones, right?. Alluding to the fact that Game of Thrones has earned notoriety for its dark and depressing storylines. While actor Henry Winkler was filming his final scenes for the second season, he looked around to realize that the production was happening on exactly the same soundstage Happy Days was filmed forty years ago. Winkler had starred alongside Ron Howard in the hit 70s TV series for nearly a decade. Winkler took the crew of Barry down memory lane by identifying various parts of the set used in Happy Days. Well catch the new episodes of Barry streaming on Disney + Hotstar.Thats the OTTplay Now You Know for today, until the next episode its your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by - Ryan Gomez
In today's episode of Bingeworthy, our revitalized TV and streaming podcast co-hosts Mike DeAngelo and Rodrigo Perez dive into HBO Max's beloved series, “Barry” from Bill Hader and Alec Berg. The show follows a hitman named Barry (Bill Hader) who stumbles into an acting class on the job and finds a real passion for theater. As the lines between his life as a hired killer and as an actor begin to blur, Barry must do all he can to keep his new life afloat without anyone finding out about his dark past and other, more deadly life (read our Season 3 review here). After our hosts discuss the show, actor Anthony Carrigan stops by to discuss bringing everyone's favorite Chechen mobster, Noho Hank, to life. Anthony went as far back as shooting the pilot when recalling how he knew the character was working. This week, we kick off the HBO Max Showdown! We asked ourselves, "Should we cancel HBO Max?" and decided to make a challenge of finding shows good enough to keep it. In today's episode, Schmee introduces Riker to Barry (HBO MAX) with just the pilot episode, "Chapter One: Make Your Mark." We discuss how effectively the pilot established the genre for the show, introduced the characters, presented the plot for the season/series to come, and hooked us to watch more. As Jerome and Kevin bide their time until Better Call Saul Season 6, they turn to a show that in some respects is a "reverse Breaking Bad." HBO's dark comedy "Barry" explores the life of a bored assassin whose lust for a "regular" life is sparked by a visit to Los Angeles, and (some very dark) hilarity ensues! Jerome and Kevin discuss Bill Hader, how they discovered the show, and go through the first Season episode by episode. Throughout the discussion they sing the praises of Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, D'Arcy Carden and Anthony Carrigan, talk about how some of the more understated acting makes for the best moments, and the problematic nature of some character choices, especially with hindsight!
Wyatt and Stu are joined by Anthony Carrigan. Once the actor who's brought you NoHo Hank on Barry, Victor Zsasz on Gotham, and soon-to-be Jordan in Fatherhood, Anthony takes the next step in his creative journey... podcast cohost.
Husband and wife comedians Mike Bobbitt and Allyson Bobbitt take turns making each other watch a movie the other has never seen. This week, our friend Brittany made us watch Bill and Ted Face the Music. Neither Mike nor Allyson are particularly big Bill and Ted fans, so will this long awaited third chapter in the Bill and Ted saga resonate with them at all? Will they be too distracted by clean shaven Keanu Reeves? Will Mike's fandom of Alex Winter's work outside of this franchise hold weight? Maybe the supporting cast of Samara Weaving, Brigitte Lundy-Paine, the always delightful Kristen Schaal, or their new favorite Anthony Carrigan will have Mike and Allyson screaming, "Excellent!" Episode 91 of the Everyman Movie Review! It seems as though the nostalgia train isn't done with 2020. Earlier this year, we returned to Redbank, NJ and the world of Jay & Silent Bob - this week, we're returning to San Dimas and the Great Ones who will save us all: William "Bill" S. I realize that most of the movie industry is essentially catering to me and people like me - those in their late 30s or early 40s with money to burn... and it makes me very, very happy. It’s 2020 and Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are back in the new film Bill & Ted Face the Music. The movie catches up with the Wyld Stallyns frontmen 29 years after Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Face the Music is simultaneously ridiculous, funny, sweet and proof that a 90s-style comedy can work in 2020. It also captures the essence and joy many of us experienced watching 1989's Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. On this episode of I’m So Obsessed, my guests are Alex Winter, better known as Bill S. Preston Esq., and Scott Kroopf, who produced all three Bill & Ted films. They discuss the cultural appeal of Bill and Ted, the ingenious casting of Bill and Ted’s daughters, the hysterical performance Anthony Carrigan from HBO’s Barry gives as a robot and how they paid tribute to George Carlin.

This calendar year may be an irredeemable trash fire, but a few bright lines shine through, including the totally [air guitar] Bill & Ted Face the Music! It's been nearly a year since our last #KeanuClub episode -- and nearly 30 years since the last time we saw Bill S. Preston, Esq. (Alex Winter) and Ted "Theodore" Logan -- but we're back in the saddle and read to save the world once and for all! In this episode, we talk about the way Bill & Ted Face the Music recaps, sets up, and sends off the franchise; the perfect additions to the cast (including Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, and Anthony Carrigan); and the totally non-non-non-bogus (and positively joyous) ending. The #KeanuClub feed may be dark for a while as Keanu Reeves gears up for the fourth installments of John Wick and The Matrix, but join us for one more excellent adventure!

Thank you for joining us for Episode 27 of Alopecia Life with Anthony Carrigan. My first interaction with Anthony was on New Year's Eve back in 2014. At the time, I didn't know who he was. Jannica Olin, a story contributor for Head-On, Stories of Alopecia, thought he would be a great addition to the book, and after a conversation with him, it was easy to understand why. After all, he was calling me on a holiday while he was helping his mom move. If that wasn't an indication of what a great guy he was, it's become even more evident to me over the past 6 years while we've sat around campfires and mentored kids at camp that he is someone who shows up, engages, and truly cares. This interview was done back in February, when our world wasn't totally upside down with the pandemic. Anthony's optimism during the interview is a breath of fresh air right now, and he shares so much about alopecia, how his outlook on his appearance affected Hollywood's ability to accept looking different, and how we can all access deeper meaning when we embrace our unique difference. https://www.facebook.com/anthony.carrigan.5https://www.instagram.com/carriganagain/ https://twitter.com/Anth_Carrigan

Ian thinks it’s a slow news week. Christian thinks it’s not. On this episode, we talk about a surprise new project from Pixar’s most creative storyteller, an intriguing new trailer that’s generating a lot of buzz, and a just-announced prequel to the Hunger Games movies that nobody wants. Also, Ian completely dismisses an Oscar-caliber movie based on a single production still, Christian sings the praises of Anthony Carrigan, and we both reminisce about how awesome The Shadow still is at 25. "Barry" is a dark comedy starring Bill Hader as a depressed, low-rent hitman named Barry from the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he reluctantly traveled to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an aspiring actor and fell in love with acting himself. He wants to keep his life as an actor, but his criminal past won’t let him walk away. Anthony Carrigan, who plays Noho Hank, a Chechen mobster, visited BUILD to discuss the second season of the hit HBO show.
A few years after he was told he should quit acting, Anthony Carrigan shines as NoHo Hank on HBO's 'Barry.' He talks to guest host Elise Hu about working with Bill Hader, empathizing with the villains he plays, and finding peace with a condition that once made a career in Hollywood seem out of reach. 'Barry' airs Sunday nights on HBO. Email the show at samsanders@npr.org.
