"The Adventures of Philip Marlowe" was a hardboiled detective radio series based on Raymond Chandler's iconic private eye. Unlike many other detective shows of the era, it was known for its serious tone, with fewer lighthearted moments. The show premiered on NBC in June 1947 as a summer replacement for Bob Hope, titled "The New Adventures of Philip Marlowe," starring Van Heflin. The first episode adapted Chandler's short story "Red Wind," and the NBC run concluded in September 1947.In 1948, the series moved to CBS and was renamed "The Adventures of Philip Marlowe," with Gerald Mohr taking on the lead role. This CBS version also began with a different adaptation of "Red Wind." By 1949, it had become the most popular radio program. The CBS series aired for 114 episodes, from September 1948 to September 1950.From July to September 1951, the show briefly returned as a summer replacement for "Hopalong Cassidy," with Mohr reprising his role, except for one episode in 1950 featuring William Conrad.A notable episode, "The Birds on the Wing" (November 26, 1949), famously broke the fourth wall at both the beginning and end. Marlowe mentions reading Chandler's latest novel, "The Little Sister," and in the conclusion, Gracie Allen asks Marlowe to find a radio show for her husband, George Burns.Lyn Murray composed the program's music. The theme used in the first two NBC episodes, where Marlowe narrates the opening of Chandler's "Red Wind," later became a prominent motif in Murray's score for Alfred Hitchcock's "To Catch a Thief" (1954).Despite its popularity, "The Adventures of Philip Marlowe" lacked consistent sponsorship, with only brief periods supported by Ford Motor Company and Wrigley's Gum in 1950.Raymond Chandler had minimal involvement with the radio series, content with the weekly royalties for his character's use and expressing moderate satisfaction with Gerald Mohr's portrayal of Marlowe. The first NBC episode's script was by Milton Geiger, which Chandler found "thoroughly flat." The CBS version, produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell, was better received. The writing team for the CBS series included Gene Levitt, Robert Mitchell, Mel Dinelli, and Kathleen Hite, with music by Richard Aurandt and Roy Rowan as the announcer. The cast alongside Gerald Mohr featured actors such as Jeff Corey, Howard McNear, Parley Baer, Lawrence Dobkin, Virginia Gregg, Gloria Blondell, and Lou Krugman.

Episode 39 aired on CBS Radio October 21, 1956. Fort Laramie Western series starring Raymond Burr as Captain Lee Quince. It aired Sunday afternoons January 22–October 28, 1956, at 5:30pm ET. Produced and directed by Norman MacDonnell, this Western drama depicted life at old Fort Laramie during the 19th Century. The 41 episodes starred Raymond Burr as Lee Quince, captain of the cavalry. One year later, Burr became a television star as Perry Mason In the series, the fort had 400 troops in all, but they had to keep their eye on a nearby Indian reservation with 4,000 Sioux camped there. Major Ned Daggert led the troops, and he didn't always see eye to eye with Quince. Daggert had a niece called Terrie Lawson, who had her eye on the captain. Supporting regulars included Vic Perrin as Sgt. Gorse, Harry Bartell as the slightly green Lt. Seibert and Jack Moyles as Major Daggert. Heard on a more irregular basis were John Dehner, John McIntire, Virginia Gregg, James Nusser, Parley Baer and Barney Phillips. Amerigo Marino supplied the music. The scripts were mostly written by John Meston, Kathleen Hite, Les Crutchfield and John Dunkel. John Dehner originally auditioned for the part of Lee Quince in a story that was later remade with Burr in the lead, called "The Boatwright's Story".

Enjoy two detective adventures of Philip Marlowe A) 9/15/50 The Final Payment w/ Gerald Mohr B) 9/8/50 The Fifth Mask w/ Gerald Mohr Raymond Chandler's celebrated hardboiled private eye, Philip Marlowe, made his radio debut in 1945 on The Lux Radio Theatre with “Murder My Sweet” starring Dick Powell.  Two years later, NBC would bring the character to the air in his own weekly series starring Van Heflin in The New Adventures of Philip Marlowe.  A summer replacement for The Bob Hope Show, the series was short-lived, ending September 9th, 1947.  CBS revived it in 1948 with The Adventures of Philip Marlowe starring Gerald Mohr as Marlowe.  With Producer/Director Norman Macdonnell at the helm, the series captured the largest audience in radio by 1949.  Scripts were by Gene Levitt, Robert Mitchell, Mel Dinelli and Kathleen Hite.  While Chandler's distinctive similes were largely lacking, the strong, dry, sarcastic narration was there, and the way Mohr delivered his lines made you forget they weren't written by Chandler.  Supporting Mohr, were radio's best, including Howard McNear, Parley Baer, Lawrence Dobkin, Virginian Greg and Lou Krugman.  One of the best detective shows on the air, it lasted until 1951.

It is set in and around Dodge City, Kansas in the 1870s, during the settlement of the American West. The central character is lawman Marshal Matt Dillon, played by William Conrad on radio and James Arness on television. When aired in the United Kingdom, the television series was initially titled Gun Law, later reverting to Gunsmoke. The radio series ran for 9 seasons from April 26, 1952, to June 18, 1961, and lasted for 480 episodes. John Dunning wrote that among radio drama enthusiasts, "Gunsmoke is routinely placed among the best shows of any kind and any time." The television series ran for 20 seasons from September 10, 1955, to March 31, 1975, and lasted for 635 episodes. At the end of its run in 1975, Los Angeles Times columnist Cecil Smith wrote: "Gunsmoke was the dramatization of the American epic legend of the west. Our own Iliad and Odyssey, created from standard elements of the dime novel and the pulp western as romanticized by [Ned] Buntline, [Bret] Harte, and [Mark] Twain. It was ever the stuff of legend." A radio or television western is a series that takes place in the latter half of the 19th century and the early 20th century in the Western United States, which is styled the "Old West" or the "Wild West" and involves cowboys, cattle ranchers, miners, farmers, Native Americans, Spaniards, swords, guns, and horses. Gunsmoke - Serial 1, Episode 1 - 20 Title: Gunsmoke Overview: Gunsmoke is an American radio and television Western drama series created by director Norman Macdonnell and writer John Meston. It was the most popular genre of a show in the 1950s and 1960s when several hundred were aired.
