In 10 minutes, Northeast president Ricky G. Ford is happy to see people out and about this summer and with that comes a bevy of summer activities at Northeast. Last week, both the Tiger baseball team and the Lady Tiger softball team welcomed nearly 200 campers to the Northeast Baseball/Softball Complex on Third Street and new women's basketball coach Chelsey Rhoades has already had a busy summer with a two-day team camp and a three-day individual skills camp in the first week of June. This Thursday, the Northeast Mississippi Softball Coaches Association will take over the Northeast Baseball/Softball Complex for three games, including an underclassman game, a Classes 1/2/3A contest and a Classes 4/5/6A affair in the nightcap. Ford reminds everyone that it is not too late to sign up for the second summer school session in July, nor is it too late to sign up for the upcoming fall semester. Ford discusses the importance of Orientation and helping incoming students with their schedules, housing and financial aid, and helping them adjust to college life. Ford also talks about the Fiber Optic Technician training course that is coming to fruition and movements by the President's Cabinet to consolidate all printers on campus into centralized locations to help with troubleshooting and avoid supply chain issues with getting ink and so on forth. Ford addresses the 2023 budget and says that this year's budget is balanced and that the focus should be on next year's budget as it may be a different story. Ford announces evaluations of all programs to ensure that they are doing all they can to help students and attract even more to the campus. In big news, Ford announces that the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center should be opening in the next few days.

Ford gives a brief rundown of everything that is happening at one of the premier institutions in the United States...Northeast Mississippi Community College. In a quick rundown, Ford talks about the plans for graduation on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13 with the processional beginning at 6:15 p.m. entering the Bonner Arnold Coliseum and the ceremony immediately starting following the processional. During the two-night commencement exercises, Northeast will see approximately 500 students cross the stage to get their degrees and will follow that up with the college's GED/HiSET graduation on Monday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. All graduation ceremonies will air live on NEMCCTV.com and be archived on the college's YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/nemcctv). In addition to reminding listeners of the earlier-than-normal start time for graduation, Ford talks about the upcoming program reviews and encourages all employees to perform continuous evaluations on not only their jobs but their personal lives as well. Ford discusses upcoming events such as the Northeast Mississippi Football Coaches Association high school all-star game that will be filled with a multitude of local high school talent on Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium and the Mobile Learning Conference on June 13 and June 14 online that serves as a valuable resource for our K-12 partners, our Institutes of Higher Learning members and our community college partners on how to incorporate technology in the classroom and instruction. Ford gives a rundown on ongoing construction projects such as the finishing of the Phase II MDOT project that will give the college a safer environment and the beginnings of the Phase III of the project. Ford talks about the former Corinthian Furniture building on West Chambers Drive and changes coming to it and the work on the outdoor classrooms and Seth Pounds Auditorium. Ford addresses athletics that continue throughout the spring such as the Lady Tiger softball team playing the Region XXIII Tournament in Wesson this week (games can be viewed on the Gold Channel of NEMCCTV.com) and two Northeast Tiger linksters qualifying for the NJCAA National Golf Championships in Joplin, Missouri on May 17-20.

In this week's episode, Northeast president Ricky G. Ford shares updates from the college's strategic doing committees including the plan to place AEDs in every building on campus and have someone in those buildings trained to use the devices. Ford also talks about the ways that Strategic Doing has undertaken to improve the quality between Northeast employees, students, and the community and each committee is working to make the college stronger and better. In a rundown of events, Ford talks about both the Lady Tiger and Tiger basketball teams making the Region XXIII Tournament and the men hosting the third round of the regional affair on Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum and the possibility of them advancing through the tournament and national tournament as well. Ford also talks about all the events happening on campus when it comes to baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and even the college's newest program -- archery, which has a match at Blue Mountain College on Tuesday, March 1 and then will officially open its tenure at Northeast at Mississippi College on Saturday, March 5. In addition to all the athletic events, the college is offering a variety of events throughout the spring semester such as the Campus Country concert in Hines Hall on March 3 and March 4, the annual Honors Day, and this year the PTK Spring Induction on April 18 and graduation in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum on May 12 and May 13. Ford talks about the Northeast Development Foundation and its recent announcement that the Franks Foundation has turned over $5.4 million to Northeast to help with scholarships and mentions that Thursday, March 3 is the athletic sponsor appreciation day at the Baseball/Softball Complex on 3rd Street. Ford announces who the college has hired to replace Beth Byrd as the Division Head of Math & Sciences....and that is...Andrea Mathis.
