Man remains on death row despite faulty bite mark evidence; LSU Lady Tigers gear up for March Madness

Nine prisoners are walking free after being convicted in part on faulty evidence presented by Mississippi dentist Michael West and his pathological partner Dr. Steven Hayne. Seven of those nine convictions involved bite mark evidence, and three of the recently-freed men had been on death row. There is one inmate left who awaits execution based on evidence presented by the now defamed medical professionals, and state prosecutors aren't budging about his guilt. All the while, Louisiana had been gearing up for its first nitrogen gas execution, which has since been temporarily barred by a federal judge. Richard Webster, a reporter for Verite News and ProPublica  has been following this closely, and joins us to share more. The 2025 March Madness tournaments are just around the corner, and all eyes are on the LSU women's basketball team. The Lady Tigers won the championship in 2023, and lost in the Elite Eight in 2024. While this year's squad will lack the familiar faces of Angel Reese and Haley Van Lith, fans will remember Flau'Jae Johnson, who has taken on a larger role with this year's team. And of course, there's the colorful coach Kim Mulkey and her unforgettable sideline jackets. Reed Darcey, who covers the team for the Baton Rouge Advocate, joins us to look back at  the regular season and offer tournament predictions.___Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Ryan Vasquez. (Lander, WY) - The Lander Valley High School Lady Tigers basketball program has welcomed Drew Powell, who was named the team's head coach in May. He becomes the third head coach in three seasons for the Lady Tigers. "I'm looking forward to the challenge!" he said. Powell has been a part of Lander basketball, just not on the girl's side. He has spent the last four seasons as a part of Stu Mullins's staff for the boy's program, including two years coaching the freshman team and two seasons as the junior varsity coach. "I got introduced that way to coaching, but he drug me along to it, but I have found how much I enjoy it and want to continue to do it," he said. Powell is taking many things he learned over the last four years and bringing them over to the girl's program. "He (Stu) was a great leader and showed me that through the four years I have been there and the style of the game and how much it can change from year to year and prepare for all of that," Powell said. He already has connections built with some of the players. "I have pretty good relationships with the girls, but it comes down to building those relationships with the girls," Powell said. He does have things already going in the offseason, including a camp in Green River where they did play some teams. "We went 2-1 just letting the girls go out there and play," Powell said. He also does open gyms, which saw great numbers even with a busy summer of fall sports offseason programs. "We had great numbers from open gym to start the year. They are all coming in and working hard, and that's what is going to propel them to getting better is coming in and giving it a great effort!" You can listen to the full interview below!

Ep 282 | Why Dawn Staley Should Cancel Memphis Not BYU | Fearless Review: 'Honk For Jesus'

Following last week's phantom racist incident at the BYU-Dule volleyball match, South Carolina women's basketball Dawn Staley unilaterally decided that playing BYU posed too much of an emotional threat to her players and canceled a home and home series with the Cougars. Jason says Staley's emotional tantrum was nothing more than self-serving virtue signaling. “The truth is Dawn Staley canceled South Carolina's women's basketball series with BYU to embarrass the Mormon institution and elevate her own profile. It was not a well-thought-out decision. It was emotional and manipulative.” Jason argues that following the senseless murder of Eliza Fletcher in Memphis, Staley should also cancel her series with the Lady Tigers. After all, there's abundant evidence that the city of Memphis is more than emotionally hostile to young black women, and people in general, it's actually deadly. “There's actual proof that the city of Memphis is unsafe for young black people and people in general. The city's murder rate rivals Chicago's and St. Louis'. Last year, the mid-sized city recorded 346 murders.” The First Lady of Fearless, Shemeka Michelle and T.J. Moe join Jason to discuss the black, gay privilege that gives Dawn Staley the autonomy to cancel an entire university and its fanbase and exposes the hypocrisy following an alleged racist incident involving South Carolina fans. Delano Squires stops in to discuss the rising trend of violence among teenage girls and how the female empowerment movement is to blame. Wednesdays mean Tennessee Harmony. Pastors Anthony Walker and Virgil Walker join Jason and Shemeka to review the movie “Honk For Jesus” and the uncomfortable mirror it holds up to the black church. Learn more about your ad choices.
