Who was Houston Bred before becoming a YouTube and Patreon content creator? This is an introduction to the origins of one awesome creator that you would love to know. Houston Bred has some of the most unique name meanings amongst guests to have been on this podcast. Eventually, a college athlete, who never got carried away by her love for playing sports to the point where she wouldn't identify with her roots or her people. Taking the time to engage with communities around her, would open the doors of understanding to the dualities of being a Black American and an immigrant at the same time.   Houston Bred shared great advice for future content creators aiming to go on YouTube. I am telling you, don't sleep on this sister. We talked about music (has anyone been able to beat the podcast rules in this manner before?), some funny food talk, and a great discussion about different Black communities around the United States. It is good to have people such as Houston in the content space.   Judge Judy got to make her debut on the show via an honorable mention, opening another trip down memory lane for yours truly. A lot was covered in what may be quite a heavy-packed episode. Of course, we had plenty of laughs, I mean Judge Judy hello. Unconventional TV will never die, just try not to be the brand new me in America. Although, I shall secretly watch the 1st episode of my show when it's made and put on Bravo Network (hopefully produced by Houston Bred). Many people have the intention to go to college, but haven't thought much more beyond that acceptance letter. Speaking of intention, colleges are also intentional in the experience they design for students. Some colleges go overboard in their desire to attract and retain students. Did you know that LSU students have a lazy river as part of their campus? In this episode, Elizabeth talks with Jude Kiah about how to experience college intentionally as a student and how colleges intentionally design the student experience. Jude Kiah is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. In this episode you'll learn….The importance of getting out of your dorm room. Nothing will happen if you don't leave your room and see what opportunities exist. Why it is essential to say YES in college! Take risks, try things. These will become your favorite lasting college memories. How college departments work together to create a positive student experience. The Admissions Club Podcast is your one-stop shop for all things college admissions, complete with a nostalgic 80s playlist and Gen X vibes. We are talking about pop culture and how going to college is represented in the movies. Our guest is Dr. La'Tonya Rease Miles, LT, who teaches and talks about pop culture especially as it relates to students who are first-generation to college (students whose parents don't have a four-year college degree). But just because we talk about how first-generation students are represented in movies, in Spiderman, Harry Potter, Zootopia, Monsters, Inc., and the Oscar-winning CODA, doesn't mean the college stories aren't relevant to all families. LT and I talk about how these different portrayals of students getting into and being in college can be great discussion starters in your family about what to expect in college. We even talk about how Hollywood often misrepresents the college experience by focusing on fun and Greek Life. I mean, when have you ever seen a movie about students studying for exams, coding for a project,or doing their lab work? If you've got a child nearing college or already there, this episode is for you.  We're going to take a critical look at evangelical colleges and universities and analyze the experience they provide our kids. Having attended the evangelical college Wheaton, I have firsthand experience to bring to the table that we'll discuss throughout today's show. Joining me is the host of the Chapel Probation podcast, Scott Okamoto. He grew up in a conservative Christian family but began deconstructing when he went away to college. Eventually, he became a professor at an evangelical university and started to clarify his progressive Christian beliefs. This led to him stepping away and becoming a stay-at-home dad.  Tune in to hear my conversation with Scott on the evangelical college experience from each of our unique perspectives.  Show Highlights: Scott's background with evangelicalism. Why he stepped down from his job at APU and became a stay-at-home dad. What inspired him to start his podcast. Where I was at in my faith while attending Wheaton. The paradox of the evangelical college experience. The challenges deconstruction brings to parenting. Why we must love our kids well and then trust them to make the right decisions. Advice for parents thinking about sending their kids to an evangelical college. Advice for students attending an evangelical college right now. While no college experience is identical, some are simply better than others. Too many adults regret what they didn't do during their four years, and whether it's not taking full advantage of the academic opportunities or not doing enough outside of the classroom, most of us can agree that college is too short not to do it all. Currently residing in the United Kingdom, meet heroine Chelsea Jackson. She's an activist, Rhodes Scholar, Delta and just a phenomenal human being. She's determined to use her youth — and college experience — to leave no stone unturned. Her story of being a child of HBCU parents and choosing a PWI is fascinating and inspiring. She followed her gut, understands her purpose and is poised to shine on every platform she steps on. You're in for a treat!!!

Entrepreneurship, Standing Out, and Empowering Small Businesses. In this episode of The Outspoken Podcast, host Shana Cosgrove talks to Robb Wong, CEO and Founder of Fedsolve. Robb discusses his lifelong entrepreneurial drive starting at 11 years old, stringing tennis rackets with his brother, and holding 7 part-time jobs in college. He also talks about his email hack to avoid spam and whether or not he feels like a Government Contracting Celebrity. Robb's experience with HUBZone and the SBA has had a major impact on small businesses in America, and he discusses that path and the potential effect of recent developments. Lastly, Robb recommends a book that you may not have read in a while! QUOTES “I would say this about leadership in general. I practice this. I try to practice this at home. What I say to my daughter is, I'm trying to be the dad that you expect me to be, not the dad that I want to be. And so, I say that to my wife about me trying to be a husband. And I tried to apply that to SBA. I tried to be the type of leader that other people expected me to be, not the person that I wanted to be.” - Robb Wong [26:59] “What's going to happen is if you continue to try to help people, they're going to come to you and they're going to say, Shana, I know this isn't what NYLA does, but we have this other problem. And if you answer and honestly say, listen, I'm not the expert in that, but I can figure it out. That's how you, that's how you evolve, that's how you change as a company. And you have to be open for change.” - Robb Wong [50:50] “I love helping small businesses who can help our government because I think it makes for a stronger government. And I devoted my life to government service. I was inside, I was outside. I was inside again, now I'm outside, but I think if we have a strong government then we have a strong country.” - Robb Wong [54:00]   TIMESTAMPS  [00:04] Intro [02:12] Meet Robb Wong [04:09] Robb's College Experience [05:22] Ursinus College [07:57] Born an Entrepreneur [12:52] Robb's Email Address Hack [15:02] Robb's Experience with Race-Based Assumptions [20:37] The Advantages of Living in America [22:34] Does Robb feel like a Government Contracting Celebrity?
