Proper compliance assists in maintaining community cleanliness and efficiency during this event. Keep these regulations in mind to contribute to a successful Clean-Up Day. In addition to these events, a special Backyard BBQ Festival Cruise'n will take place on September 20th, offering an enjoyable fusion of cars and cuisine. For further information, reach out to Heather at 309-945-5461. If you have any questions about the garage sales or the clean-up, you can contact the Village of Cambridge office at 309-937-2570. The Village is buzzing with excitement as preparations gear up for the annual Yard Sale weekend on May 2nd and 3rd. Residents eager to participate can put their names on the list by contacting the Village Office. This list will be widely distributed across town to maximize visibility. Meanwhile, starting April 1st, it's the season to get the annual Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) sticker. New registrations require a scheduled inspection, while existing owners can swing by the office for quick re-registration. Residents can call 309-937-2570 for all related appointments and inquiries. In celebration of Arbor Day, a community tree-planting event is set for Saturday, April 19. Participants will gather to plant the inaugural tree of the spring season. Following the planting, join a discussion on tree care, offering insights into effective maintenance practices. Mike Braun and the Indiana General Assembly managed to do the seemingly impossible: Unite the Left and the Right in Indiana over a common cause. The cause is the property tax reform bill which passed the Senate in the dead of night and the governor signed the next day. Conservatives feel betrayed by the governor for not supplying the meaningful property tax relief he promised over the last year. Liberals are upset over reductions in funding to local governments, primarily schools. Can the governor recover from millions of outraged Hoosiers? Rob Kendall, Abdul-Hakim Shabazz, and Jim Merritt discuss on this week's Statehouse Happenings.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The House Ways and Means Committee has passed its version of property tax reform. While it includes a huge win for big business, not so much for homeowners or renters. Not only will their tax relief be minimal, but it could also be offset by potential income tax increases. The public is not happy with the plan and the House appears dead set on passing it. Winston Peters says Donald Trump's team is "well-informed" about what's happening in our part of the world. The Foreign Minister met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and key officials in the US last week. The visit comes as New Zealand waits to see if we'll get any exemptions from Trump's tariffs. Peters told Mike Hosking Rubio, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and the others he met with, were very aware of developments in our region. He says they were seriously well-advised and much better-prepared than some people he's met from previous administrations. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Molly Rice & Rusty Thelin, co-founders of RealTime Arts in Pittsburgh talk about: The especially niche field of their work, which is the performance of live theater that aligns more with visual art and doesn't really check any of the ‘theater' boxes, and how they have interactive elements but don't confront the audience the way a lot of performance art does (they describe a “lot of conventions around theater… that contemporary audiences have trouble with…”); their series “People of Pittsburgh,” whose tagline is ‘Theatrical Portraits of Extraordinary Ordinary Pittsburghers;' the size of their audiences and how they're shows are often tailored to the neighborhood's they take place in, and how they make their performances as open to all as possible, with a ‘radical hospitality' option whenever possible; their hosting of Little Amal, the puppet of a Syrian refugee girl that travels the world doing performances amidst community and how their version added a play that incorporated a massive local crowd; their rock performance, ‘Angelmakers: Songs for Female Serial Killers,' which was a tight show, as compared with their more experimental and improvisatory shows, and how they got a much more mixed audience, including concert-goers to a rock concert, for that show. In the extended Full Patreon Bonus Episode, Molly & Rusty talk about: how they financially support their program, through a mix of fundraising, grants and occasional ticket sales; the gentrification that's happening in Pittsburgh, which they admit to being a part of, and moved there because they wanted to be somewhere they were needed, as artists, and was a perfect medium in between a big city and a small rural town; Pittsburgh's cohesive art/cultural community, which reminds Molly of 1990s Austin, TX, when she played in bands; how she consider their work multi-disciplinary, influenced both by site-specific work, and that they're descendants of the happenings of the ‘60s and ‘70s (including Claes Oldenburg and Robert Wilson); their current approach to social media (including looking into leaving Meta platforms); how connecting is a large part of success; and how they feel about connecting with the podcast's Open Call (the short answer is: ‘really good').

The fight over property taxes in Indiana has produced a new point of contention: Lawmaker ties to construction management companies. Construction management companies can make big money off local government contracts, which are funded in large part by property tax dollars. This has raised a red flag with many, over the ethics of a lawmaker voting on property taxes, when the companies they serve benefit directly from them. Rob Kendall, Abdul-Hakim Shabazz and Jim Merritt discuss on this week's Statehouse Happenings. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
