Recipe for a Charmed Life by Rachel Linden https://amzn.to/492omQI “Heartfelt, heartwarming, joyful, and uplifting. You can't go wrong with a Rachel Linden book.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber After a day of unrivaled disappointments, a promising young chef finds every bite of food suddenly tastes bitter. To save her career, she travels to the Pacific Northwest to reconnect with her estranged mom, and discovers a family legacy she never suspected in this delicious novel from the bestselling author of The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie. American chef Georgia May Jackson has one goal—to run her own restaurant in Paris. After a grueling decade working in Parisian kitchens, she is on the cusp of success. But in one disastrous night, Georgia loses her sous-chef position, her French boyfriend, and her sense of taste! Renowned for her refined palate and daring use of bold flavors to create remarkable dishes, Georgia is devastated to discover her culinary gift has simply...vanished. When she receives a surprising invitation from her estranged mother, Georgia flees to a small island near Seattle hoping the visit will help her regain her spark in the kitchen. As she tentatively reconnects with her mom, a free-spirited hippie eager to make up for her past mistakes, Georgia realizes there is something about the enigmatic island she just cannot piece together. Good luck charms start appearing in the oddest places. Her neighbor is a puzzlingly antagonistic (and annoyingly handsome) oyster farmer. And her mom keeps hinting at a mysterious family legacy. With the clock ticking and time running out to win her dream job in Paris, Georgia begins to unravel some astonishing secrets that make her wonder if the true recipe for a charmed life might look—and taste—very different than she ever imagined. About the author Rachel Linden is a novelist and international aid worker whose adventures in over fifty countries around the world provide excellent grist for her writing. She is the author of Ascension of Larks, Becoming the Talbot Sisters, and The Enlightenment of Bees. Currently Rachel lives with her family in Seattle, WA where she enjoys creating stories about hope, courage and connection with a hint of romance and a touch of whimsy.

Feel free to pause, jump back, or navigate the steps via the podcast chapters. If you're cooking along, here's the recipe we're making today. Go ahead and grab the ingredients below (Vallery starts listing them at 0:43) before starting the episode.One-Bowl Blueberry BuckleMakes one 9-inch buckle1/2 cup (1 stick/113 grams) unsalted butter1 cup (125 grams) self-rising flour (see Author Notes)1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar1 cup (240 milliliters) whole milk1 teaspoon kosher salt1 cup (150 grams) fresh or frozen blueberriesVanilla ice cream, for servingHeat the oven to 375°F and place a rack in the middle of the oven. Place the butter in a 9x5-inch loaf pan and put it in the hot oven. When the butter has melted, remove the pan from the oven.Meanwhile, whisk together the flour, sugar, milk, and salt in a large bowl (it's okay if the batter is a little lumpy). Pour the batter into the pan with the melted butter and use a spoon to lightly mix it. There should be visible streaks of melted butter that don't get completely mixed; this yields the buttery, caramelized edges.Place the blueberries on top of the batter in an even layer. Bake until the top is golden brown all over, 50 to 60 minutes. (If you remove it too early, the buckle will indeed “buckle” in the middle and fall—which would still be tasty, though sunken!) Wait until it's golden all over the top and set in the center. Place the buckle on a cooling rack for 10 minutes before serving warm with a scoop of ice cream.Have a recipe you'd like to hear us cook? We were designed with a purpose in our hearts to live out with boldness and without fear in our hearts. We know this because the Bible says it. But for anyone out there boldly going all in for your dreams, you are shaking your head as you stand buck naked in the streets ad shaking in your boots trying to make it all work. That's why God gave us community. So that we could borrow belief from our brothers and sisters when we were afraid. To turn on the light when things got dark and to have a joyful and full life with. Join Becky and Natasha as they compare and contrast their childhood community and how despite their differences Jesus is fulfilling the deep longing for community in the same way. Shame is one of the most powerful emotions it leads us into complete isolation and captivity because it's ultimate message is "if people really knew me, they would reject me." The combat boot to shame is vulnerability. It's the antidote to setting us free. When we risk vulnerability with people who are safe we have the opportunity to step into the best version of our lives. We get an invitation to build and live a life that we LOVE. Join us this week as Nichole unpacks the journey she took to revealing the part of her that was most vulnerable to other people and how that shift from isolation set her into her passion and purpose. Jesus was always pointing at children and saying, "pay attention, look at what they're doing right now...that is what the Kingdom of Heaven is like." When we start out as children we play without abandon, we worship without thinking, and we dream big dreams. As we get older the world strips that innocence from us and makes us believe that we need to be different. Maturity looks more like doing the things that get us "good" feedback and we begin to forget that child within us. In This episode, tune in and listen closely to a story about abandoning the inner child, choices that isolate us from community and the sweet loving Jesus who draws us back. Have you ever had that moment when you're with a group of people and you don't know them or their religious backgrounds and you want to fit in and be liked so you don't outright say that you're a follower of Jesus? I have (Becky here) just to keep the peace. Because it's hard to be out there with your faith today. So many preconceived notions about what we stand for in life. Better to stay under the lampshade. That's why I am always amazed when I see someone shining their light bright with no abandon. Imagine that except being on national TV and then after you choose to still keep that light shining bright being raked through the coals of every national news media, even the seemingly "Christian" ones. That's this humble giant on this episode, Angela Zatopek. Former participant in miss Texas pageant and contestant winner of a national reality dating television show (like you win when he proposes to you on national television). It's just two girls talking about Jesus, virginity, public humiliation and Jesus. How he's worth shining for in the midst of national public humiliation and how that experience hyper-launched her purpose and passion to create a jewelry line for shining Jesus' light out loud. It's also about heart-break, disappointment and following Jesus anyways. Listen in, it's worth it. Elizabeth De Moraes: Girl Take That Sweatshirt Off Your Butt We all have something about us that we don’t like; A gap in our teeth, kissing thighs, or maybe unshapely unshapely arms. We work hard to hide our "flaws" from people. Refusing to wear tank tops, turning our head so that the camera gets our good side, or putting a sweatshirt around our waist. We’re hiding because we think it says something about WHO we are. That it shows our inward limitations on the outside, and it’s holding us back. This beautiful conversation with Elizabeth De Moraes reveals what happens to the shape of things, when we take the sweatshirt off and let people see us fully. Elizabeth is on a mission to make women feel more beautiful and confident with her video glam cam kit that takes the guesswork out of online videos: https://videoglamcamkit.com Join More Than Me Members, get an all-access pass behind the scenes with other women who are living out their purpose and want to support you. morethanme.com/influencers/ Leave us a review on iTunes or GooglePlay Related Resources: Upcoming Events: morethanme.com/the-conference/ Follow on Instagram: www.instagram.com/morethanmemvmt/ Follow on Facebook: www.facebook.com/morethanmemvmt/ Get in touch with Elizabeth: https://videoglamcamkit.com Follow Elizabeth on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabethelidemoraes Host Becky Herrington is the co-host of Paying Ridiculous Attention to Jesus Podcast, Biola Graduate and lover of all things Jesus. When we have big dreams and a lot of personality, we learn early on that we are just "too much" for some people. As an adolescent that kind of feedback can quiet our voice, silence our personalities and cause us to lean out of our purpose in life. That child within us who represents the creation God made gets squashed and alternative path is formed. This week we join growth coach of Ginger Root, Corina Tripon, as she shares her story of overcoming her fear of being "too much" and reclaiming the firey Romania red-head with a passion to help women rise up, find their voice and claim their dreams. In this episode, Rev. Beverly Gibson shares her favorite podcasts, her philosophy of sermon style and delivery, and how to prepare for a sermon (even when you don't feel so hot). Johnny gets excited because he manages to get Shawn Mullins, Eric Clapton, and J.J. Cale into this week's podcast. Johnny was a sponsor for new church member Richie Scherer, and Reverend Dean Beverly Gibson was actually sitting in the pews this week for her daughter's confirmation. Bishop Russell Kendrick gave a rousing sermon and beautiful service at Christ Church Cathedral's 11th Annual Celebration. Due to all the festivities, Rev. Gibson suggested that we put together a Pulpit To Pew episode of some of the bonus material she and Johnny have cut from other shows. What you will hear: > Other podcasts on Reverend Gibson & Johnny's playlist. > Why Reverend Gibson is hesitant to listen to other religious or preaching podcasts. > Finding and growing a sermon style for a specific church audience and community. > The importance in earning trust with an audience. > How tough is it to deliver a sermon consistently and when you don't feel well? > Psyching up or praying up to prepare for a sermon & Mass. > A peek behind the curtain - pre-mass prep, prayers, and reminders for everyone on the alter. Especially the acolytes. > Body language and facial expression feedback from the pews. > Delivery and style sermon differences and diversity. > The benefit of a microphone when preaching. > Memorizing vs. outlines when delivering sermons. Please subscribe to Pulpit To Pew on Apple iTunes or Overcast App. The best way to support our show is to share with your friends and post an APPLE review and rating. Want to know more about Pulpit To Pew, Reverend Beverly Gibson, Johnny Gwin or Christ Church Cathedral with pulpittopew.com. Thanks so much for listening.
