Lately, I've been reflecting on the idea of going against the grain when your mind interjects and keeps you in a loop of unmotivation. Of stagnation.  While I am an advocate for rest, where I think it's important to honor the low moments, we must also keep ourselves in check when we begin talking ourselves out of doing things that are actually beneficial for us in the long run. In this episode, I talk about the ways I mitigate the wrath of unmotivation: Starting small - DAY ONE, NOT ONE DAY. Remembering the past and how we felt when we got off our butts. What are your goals? Psyching yourself up with dance and music. How to approach a reward system. Having an accountability buddy. I hope you enjoy this episode! For this week's QFF episode, Rob interviews Atima Omara, President and Founder of Omara Strategy Group. She's based in Virginia in the USA. Atima is something you can call “a champion of the underdog.” Atima helps clients from underrepresented communities in American politics run for office and engage the public through training, voter engagement, and communications. In her work, she sometimes encounters imposter syndrome in her clients. Imposter syndrome is a feeling that Atima has experienced as well, in which a person doubts their skills and feels like a fake, even though there is evidence to the contrary. Imposter syndrome has victimized all sorts of people, even if they already have illustrious portfolios, including small- and medium-sized business owners. Atima fights the syndrome by getting technical about it and also helping her clients through coaching and training.  Atima further added that if you're somebody who's starting a business, you should not underestimate the people in your network and that you should develop your professional network by building it on Linkedin, or Instagram if you're a photographer. After all, it is 70% more likely to close from a lead that's warm because it's a referral than if it was a cold prospect.  This Cast Covers:  Altruistic nature in advocacy. Advocating for historically marginalized communities. Overcoming the commonly widespread imposter syndrome. Being comfortable in selling your services. Investing in learning through means of coaching. Identifying your audience and where to find them. Elements needed to build confidence and self-esteem. Psyching yourself up. Benefits of having an accountability partner. The importance of training. Links:  Atima's Linkedin Atima's Company Website Atima's Twitter Additional Resources: The Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie      Quotes: “The other part of it is understanding the importance of selling and doing that in a way that's authentic to you.” — Atima Omara. “If you're somebody who's starting a business, invest in actually learning how to feel comfortable in selling your services.” — Atima Omara. “Make sure you know who your ideal client is, and then know where they are.” — Atima Omara. “Sometimes you do need to be reminded.” — Atima Omara. “Practicing things that you aren't great at, is critical to the job, and putting yourself in scenarios where you get to use that skill until you feel like it's very comfortable for you.” — Atima Omara.

AND WE'RE BACK! I'm so happy to have my cousin back on the mic with me this week! We actually recorded this last week right after Nipsey died so of course we had speak about how his life and death affected not only his loved ones, but his fans and total strangers! May he rest in honor and may people continue his good work. We also had to give you guys the update with Pastor "Saving Souls and Psyching Sistas"! Voicemails that he left his mistress recently leaked, cementing what we already knew and you know that Tavaria and I had to go in on him! What a shame! I don't want to give the entire episode away, but we also touched on the now bankrupt Wow Air and what to do when your flight is delayed or canceled. But I think the biggest news of all was Tavaria's surgery announcement! She's gone under the knife and made it out on the other side, but she blessed us with a few of her thoughts leading up to the life-changing surgery as well as her reasoning behind her decision to go under the knife. We plan on recording another episode this weekend where she gives us an update and tells us her experience thus far. I can already tell y'all that that conversation is going to be full of food and laughter. Don't be afraid to reach out if you have any questions about her surgery! Check out the episode below and please forgive us for the constant beeping of Tavaria's smoke detector. I keep telling her to do better.

We've all been there: It's game night and you can't be bothered with playing. Maybe you're exhausted, maybe you've had a hard day, maybe you just can't find the energy. There is always the option to cancel. That is totally valid option often but it still sucks. ### Getting some energy (2:30) Uri teaches “Improv for GMs” and “Improv for Roleplayers” workshops. Improv and GMing have a lot in common. Here are a few basic tips from the workshops: - Warming up to a session. Both physical and mental warm ups. It's amazing how much it help to clear your head when you've done some warm up. [Here are some activities](http://improvencyclopedia.org/categories/Warm-up.html). - Psyching yourself toward the session. Think about the fun you're going to have and the experience you wish to create. - If you are feeling a genuine emotion - use it. If you are tired - play tired characters, run the next session when it's night time in the game and all the NPCs are dead tired. This can be a catalyst that will give you energy. ### Run something different today (7:10) Maybe boardgames tonight? If you are too tired to run a session you can take a break from the game routine run a [a filler](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Filler)! - The ultimate solution for continuing when you don't have an idea. The filler episode have no relevance to the overall plot line. - Childhood session - replay a part of the characters childhood. This is a type of a [Whole Episode Flashback](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WholeEpisodeFlashback) trope. - Body swapping session - for some reason some of the party are in the bodies of other party members, hilarity ensues. A great example might be Farscape's “[Out of Their Mind](http://www.farscapeworld.com/episodes/synopsis/10209.php)” episode. - Dream session - a session that take place in a dream (separate this from the “[it was all a dream](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AllJustADream)” session - that need to be handled with care) - [Lower Deck](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LowerDeckEpisode) Session - a session focus on minor NPC such as the henchman or the people of the town. A great examples may include Babylon 5 - [a view from the gallery](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0517621/). Also, read Eran's article on [Storytelling](http://www.uptofourplayers.com/2017/08/storytelling/). - [The Villain's POV](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VillainEpisode) session - run a session where the players play the villains of the campaign. Suggestion: make a two sentence character sheet and use the session to flash out the villains. - A night off - An evening where the characters have a night off. The character might be playing a game. A great example for D&D might be the great game [Three Dragons Ante](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-Dragon_Ante) that was designed by [Rob Heinsoo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Heinsoo) that [Uri met in Dragonmeet](https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152618544183412&set=a.10152618537498412.1073741844.566933411&type=3&theater) (and yes, that's an “On the Shoulders of Dwarves” t-shirt). - Play a dramatic interlude - Savage Worlds have a great system for handling interludes, it's called [Dramatic Interludes](https://www.peginc.com/freebies/SWcore/SWDUpdates_Interludes.pdf). [Fate collaborative game creation](https://fate-srd.com/fate-core/game-creation) You might want to play an storytelling game, some examples may include [Intrepid](http://drivethrurpg.com/product/121044/Intrepid-A-Storytelling-Adventure?affiliate_id=29668), [Fiasco](http://drivethrurpg.com/product/78548/Fiasco?affiliate_id=29668), [Microscope](http://drivethrurpg.com/product/91183/Microscope?affiliate_id=29668) and [Venture Forth](http://drivethrurpg.com/product/227988/Venture-Forth?affiliate_id=29668). ### Rel

Believe in what you've done to prepare for a task, trust the process, and then go rock it out! Don't over think it. Worry and questioning yourself not only brings you down, and crushes your self confidence but also wastes time. I hope you'll share this with anyone who you think might benefit. In this episode, Rev. Beverly Gibson shares her favorite podcasts, her philosophy of sermon style and delivery, and how to prepare for a sermon (even when you don't feel so hot). Johnny gets excited because he manages to get Shawn Mullins, Eric Clapton, and J.J. Cale into this week's podcast. Johnny was a sponsor for new church member Richie Scherer, and Reverend Dean Beverly Gibson was actually sitting in the pews this week for her daughter's confirmation. Bishop Russell Kendrick gave a rousing sermon and beautiful service at Christ Church Cathedral's 11th Annual Celebration. Due to all the festivities, Rev. Gibson suggested that we put together a Pulpit To Pew episode of some of the bonus material she and Johnny have cut from other shows. What you will hear: > Other podcasts on Reverend Gibson & Johnny's playlist. > Why Reverend Gibson is hesitant to listen to other religious or preaching podcasts. > Finding and growing a sermon style for a specific church audience and community. > The importance in earning trust with an audience. > How tough is it to deliver a sermon consistently and when you don't feel well? > Psyching up or praying up to prepare for a sermon & Mass. > A peek behind the curtain - pre-mass prep, prayers, and reminders for everyone on the alter. Especially the acolytes. > Body language and facial expression feedback from the pews. > Delivery and style sermon differences and diversity. > The benefit of a microphone when preaching. > Memorizing vs. outlines when delivering sermons. Please subscribe to Pulpit To Pew on Apple iTunes or Overcast App. The best way to support our show is to share with your friends and post an APPLE review and rating. Want to know more about Pulpit To Pew, Reverend Beverly Gibson, Johnny Gwin or Christ Church Cathedral with pulpittopew.com. Thanks so much for listening.
