Some things are just a little too perfect to be random – and this is coined by Nora and guest Caroline Moss as “the portal opening.” In today's episode of IGTBO, Nora and Caroline talk about the small moments of magic and stars aligning: Nora's daughter's new boyfriend's invisible string through their lives, signs from Caroline's grandmother, and a puppy finally learning how to ask to go outside after weeks of failed training. Not everything is going to be OK all the time. We know that. You know that. But this episode is a celebration of the moments where it feels like the universe is giving you a little nudge to remind you that something will be OK. Three years of the Watson Weekly, and Rick Watson and Jessica Lesesky mark it by doing the one thing a retail show almost never does on air: putting a grade next to the stores they actually shop.It is a tier list. S through C, live, no rubric shown to the audience. Alo Yoga takes the only S, on a hundred-plus stores, international expansion into London and Korea, and a King Street address in Charleston sitting between Skims and Gucci. Rick admits he was a hater first. Amazon lands at A on the strength of everything that isn't retail, including an ad business Jessica sizes at $56 billion, and lands there in spite of an experience Rick says has been crapped on by its own advertising. Lululemon and Nordstrom both stop at B. Eight varieties of pants that nobody working the floor can explain, and a service standard Nordstrom wrote for itself that Rick clocked hitting about fifty percent across four recent visits.Target does not get a letter. It gets a sell. Two years without a CMO, stores still out of stock, a rough back to school, and an insular Minnesota culture that Rick argues rejects outside ideas faster than it can hire them. Walmart gets a buy.Plus: Whole Foods as a returns counter that occasionally sells milk, why the Rack keeps outrunning the mothership, what Dick's is really buying with Foot Locker, and Jessica's ongoing Nuuly problem.
Hey Heal Squad! Today Maria is back with another What Worked This Week, and just like last week we are paying attention, but this time paying attention to the little things that can simplify our lives before they completely overhaul! You'll basically walk away thinking WHY have I not been doing this forever?! First up: the garage. After coming home to what she lovingly calls a “hoarder's paradise,” Maria finally tackled the clutter and created a system where everything has a home from Amazon returns to Athena's toys…but we also we get into why clearing out the physical clutter around you can feel like a nervous system reset…and maybe even inspire you to deal with some of the “clutter” you've been avoiding in other areas of your life. Then we're talking BEAUTY because Maria is sharing the photo of the facial technique that gave her a visible eye lift in literally SECONDS! Then we also have some ridiculously simple hacks you might immediately steal: the tiny organizer that finally keeps Maria's headphones from becoming a tangled disaster at the bottom of her purse (link is below!), why she is officially giving you permission to bring sneakers to the wedding and change out of those heels, and the SKIMS bra that finally made her say, “I deserve a new bra.” And stick around for Maria's bonus “what worked” because it turned into this unexpectedly beautiful reminder to slow down, get outside, put your feet on the ground, and appreciate where our food actually comes from. Nothing in this episode is going to completely overhaul your life, and that's kind of the point. Sometimes feeling better starts with the little things that make YOU better. Enjoy! This week on ShrinkChicks, Em and Jen talk all about emotionally immature parents and in-laws, the boundaries that can get blurry in family relationships, and how to protect your peace without losing yourself. They explore why understanding emotional immaturity and childhood emotional neglect can be so validating, especially when family members see the relationship very differently than you do.They answer listener questions about setting boundaries with in-laws, navigating a partner's relationship with their parents, witnessing unhealthy family dynamics, and breaking patterns when both partners grew up with emotionally immature parents. Along the way, they get into lowering expectations, sharing less, and figuring out what parts of yourself feel safe to bring into difficult family relationships.Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! The brands winning right now are not the ones with the biggest ad budgets or the most polished content. They're the ones with a human face attached to them. In this episode of Running With Wolves, Savannah breaks down why founder forward marketing is not a trend — it's a permanent infrastructure shift in how people decide to buy — and what it actually looks like to build a brand that converts in an era where trust is the only currency that matters. Here's what this episode covers: Why people buy from founders before they buy from brands — and the three reasons trust transfers from person to product The Glossier, Skims, Spanx and Liquid Death examples — what each founder did that their competitors couldn't replicate Why a founder with 10,000 engaged followers will outperform a brand account with 500,000 every single time The three things founder forward marketing actually requires — and why waiting until your brand is ready is the most expensive mistake you can make Apply to work with Savannah HERE: http://bit.ly/applywlfpodcast or DM her on Instagram @itssavannahjordan ( / itssavannahjordan ) with your takeaway. founder forward marketing, faceless brand marketing, marketing strategy 2026, personal brand, female founder, organic marketing, trust based marketing, content that converts
Emma Grede is the businesswoman behind major fashion brands including Skims and Good American, which she co-founded with Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian, respectively. Last year Forbes included her on their list of America's Richest Self-Made Women, with an estimated net worth of $405 million. She grew up in Plaistow, East London, the eldest of four daughters. Her parents separated when she was five and she was raised by her mum, who worked long hours as a trader at an investment bank. Emma took on a lot of the responsibility at home caring for her sisters. Dyslexia meant she struggled at school, but she found satisfaction in a string of part-time jobs, from delivering newspapers to making sandwiches in a deli. She later dropped out of the London College of Fashion to pursue a career in the industry, and by her mid-twenties she had founded her first company. She made her name brokering deals between celebrities and brands that included signing Natalie Portman as the face of Dior. In 2016 she founded an inclusive denim brand called Good American with Khloé Kardashian, and in 2019 she launched the shapewear brand Skims with Kim Kardashian. Lately her success has led her out of the boardroom and into the spotlight with guest appearances on Dragon's Den, and the US equivalent Shark Tank, as well as launching a podcast and writing a memoir. Emma lives in Los Angeles with her husband and business partner Jens, and they have four children.Presenter: Lauren Laverne Producer: Hannah Hufford and Christine PawlowskyDesert Island Discs has cast away many fashion leaders to the island over the years including Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith. In Part One of this two-part story, Mackenzie and Hanna sit down with Courtney, whose journey from devout Mormon missionary to queer student at BYU leads her into an underground LGBTQ+ community, and into the orbit of its charismatic, chaotic leader. What begins as a story about coming out, leaving the church, and finding the people who finally make her feel understood quickly becomes a tangled web of love bombing, ex-fiancées, blurred boundaries, suspicious stories, and a relationship Courtney can never quite seem to escape. As Courtney and her friends turn their fight for acceptance into a movement, and begin raising money for a queer resource center, the stakes get much bigger, and the red flags become harder to ignore. This week on ShrinkChicks, Em and Jen talk about being the partner of someone struggling with mental health, or being the partner struggling, and what it's like to navigate mental illness within a relationship. They explore the balance between supporting a partner and overfunctioning for them, while recognizing that fairness doesn't always mean doing the same exact things. They also discuss how relationships can evolve as each person's needs, capacity, and mental health change over time. They answer listener questions about depression, ADHD, BPD, mental load, guilt, and boundaries, and discuss how to ask for more progress without making your partner feel unsupported. Along the way, they explore why support and expectations can coexist, how to recognize when you're becoming someone's treatment plan, and how to protect your own needs while showing up for someone you love.Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! But sometimes, a person disappears slowly. So slowly that the people who love them don't realize what's happening until they look back and understand that they had been losing them for years. 32-year-old Sonia Exelby was the youngest of six children, and for much of Sonia's life, there were people who loved her very much. But somewhere along the way, Sonia began slipping away from them. At first, it looked like depression. Then isolation. She stopped going out, stopped answering invitations. Stopped letting people in. Until eventually, much of Sonia's world existed through a screen. Online, she could be whoever she wanted to be. She could talk to strangers about the things she was afraid to tell the people who loved her - but listening and helping are not always the same thing... CC 493: Disclaimer: This episode was recorded in early May 2026, prior to the events that have since unfolded.Kail and Lindsie are still in New York, and somehow a near-miss with an Uber, a hoverboard, and one very angry pedestrian turns into a full debate over who is actually the more dramatic one. Kail recaps her wildly overconfident WWE training experience, including the moment she realized her dreams of becoming the next Bella Twin might require being able to do a forward roll. Then, the two put their friendship to the test with a game of how well they really know each other, calling out irrational pet peeves, bad habits, secret sensitivities, relationship types, and the things they pretend not to care about. Lindsie also has some questions about where 95 school glue sticks disappeared to, Kail admits she is far more bothered than people think, and they agree that quiet beauty appointments should absolutely be normalized.Plus, a Foul Play involving a late-night pizza delivery, period blood, and an unsuspecting delivery driver sends the conversation completely off the rails.Get your Fatherless Behavior Tour Tickets hereFor full videos head towww.youtube.com/@KailandtheChaosTo send in your Foul Plays email us at info@coffeeconvos.comThank you for checking out our sponsors!Skims: Shop our favorite bras and underwear at SKIMS.com. This week on ShrinkChicks, we're talking all about jealousy. Where does it actually come from, and what do you do with it? Your hosts dive into jealousy at every angle; anxious attachment and reassurance-seeking, why checking a partner's ex's Instagram feeds the monster instead of starving it, and how to build real security instead of chasing a certainty that doesn't exist. Some people barely feel jealousy at all, and that gets explored too, including whether it might tie back to avoidant attachment.Listener questions cover picking fights over an ex, the fear of being "replaceable" with a partner's friends or coworkers, jealousy tied to fertility and IVF, and the sting of being treated differently than a sibling-in-law. There's a breakdown of Sue Johnson's A.R.E. framework for building security in a relationship, plus what to do when a parent's infidelity makes it hard to trust a partner who's never given a reason not to be trusted. Dear Em & Jen goes past jealousy entirely: the shame of not feeling happy for other people, and where that reflex really comes from.Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! In this episode, we have an honest conversation about some of the parts of marriage we weren't prepared for. The things that have challenged us, the ways we've had to grow individually and together, and the lessons we're still learning along the way. We love our marriage, but that doesn't mean every season has been easy- and there are definitely things we understand now that we couldn't have understood when we first got married. This is a vulnerable one about expectations, communication, conflict, changing as people, and what it actually looks like to keep choosing each other through it all. Love you guys! For years, we have been told that providing value means teaching something. More tips, more how-tos, more educational content. But education is only one way your content can be valuable. In this episode, I'm breaking down six different types of value your content can provide, from practical education and perspective shifts to storytelling, and more. We'll also talk about why relying too heavily on educational content can make your personal brand feel replaceable, and how creating a wider range of value gives people more reasons to follow you, engage with you, and care about your perspective. If you want to build a personal brand where people don't just follow you for what you can teach them, but because they genuinely want your take, this episode is for you. What You'll Learn The 6 different ways your content can provide value Why valuable content doesn't always have to teach something The difference between perspective shifts, breakthroughs, and problem awareness How storytelling and identity-driven content build stronger connection Why mixing different types of value can turn views into actual audience growth CONNECT: Connect with me on Instagram to see how I apply what I talk about on the episodes. People tend to tiptoe around anything to do with widowhood. We know that people are clumsy with their words and their actions, and often, they don't want to say the wrong thing or ask the wrong questions. Oftentimes, widows don't even want to ask these questions to fellow widows. So, our inbox fills with the questions people are too scared to ask – about dating widows, about grief's permanence, about moving forward without forgetting your person, and about widows dating other widows. Today, Nora is joined by fellow widow Rebecca Woolf to go through your burning questions and talk about grief, dating after loss, and the practical questions no one ever wants to get into. If you are a widow (or know a widow!) and have questions you wish you could ask, this episode will answer them. If we don't cover it in this episode, call or text us at 612-568-4441. This week on ShrinkChicks, Em and Jen take on a common yet difficult relationship question: how do you know when it's time to stay and fight for a relationship, versus when it's time to leave? They break down discernment counseling, a specific, structured approach to help you get clarity, and explore why "enough" is rarely one big event. The hosts dig into the difference between loyalty and self-erosion, why "if you can't handle me at my worst" is a myth we should retire, and what it actually means to love someone with accountability.Plus, Em and Jen answer listener questions on emotional neglect without an obvious "problem," discuss why healthy relationships are sometimes boring in the best way, how to gently tell a friend they deserve better, and how to support someone through infidelity or a years-long fence-sit. In Dear Em & Jen, they respond to a listener carrying decade-old shame over an affair and how to navigate moving forward. Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! If you've ever felt like your niche is too limiting, you're constantly running out of content ideas, or there are parts of your life you want to share but don't know how they fit your brand, this episode is for you. Rather than abandoning your niche or trying to reinvent your brand, you'll learn how to build a more flexible and creative content strategy by refining your niche through four different filters. We'll break down why niches often leave personal brands feeling boxed in, how an alternative method can give you permission to expand your ideas without confusing your audience, and why two personal brands can share the exact same niche while building completely different personal brands. What you'll learn from this episode: How to make your niche more marketable and social media friendly How to use your identity, ideas, format, and experiences as creative filters. Why profiles in the same niche can build completely different personal brands. How to make everyday experiences like travel, relationships, or life updates relevant to your audience without feeling off-brand. Our lives are shaped by our families. Not just our habits, family recipes, and noses – our stories, too. You probably know stories about your great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents, or, if you're really into Ancestry.com, as far back as five hundred years ago. You might know the names, professions, quirks, and life stories of people who could have literally never imagined your existence, and you carry those things with you. For some people, these family legends are a point of pride. It was for Ka Vang, too. She held tight to the heroic story of her father, Ying Vang, slipping away from the communist labor camp where he had been placed after being kidnapped in Laos, accompanied by an Australian pilot. But the real story? It doesn't quite live up to the myth Ka knows. And now, as she's preparing to pass on her family's history to her children, she reflects on her own. During August, the Motherkind team and I try to practise what we preach by slowing down, taking some time off and making the juggle just a little easier over the summer holidays. So, throughout the month, we're bringing you some of our most listened-to episodes of the year so far.Can you be an ambitious mother without feeling guilty?Emma Grede believes you can, and that our children actually benefit when they see us fully expressed, fulfilled and living in alignment with our own values.Emma is one of the world's most successful entrepreneurs, co-founder of SKIMS, CEO of Good American, founding partner of Safely, investor on Shark Tank and author of Start With Yourself. But this conversation isn't really about business. It's about the invisible pressure mothers carry, the impossible standards we set ourselves, and how to build a life that feels true to you.Together, Zoe and Emma explore why so many mothers feel depleted, how to let go of guilt, and why success looks different in different seasons of life. Emma shares the parenting philosophy that has helped her build multiple global businesses while raising four children and why she believes children don't need a perfect mother; they need one who is fulfilled. They also discuss work-life balance, career ambition after children, asking for help, letting go of control, sharing the parenting load, and why learning to say no is one of the most powerful leadership skills a mother can develop.
If you've been showing up consistently on Instagram but feel like you're posting on autopilot, this episode is your invitation to hit reset. Rather than chasing more content or trying to "beat the algorithm," I'm sharing the strategic shifts I'm making for the rest of the year to build a stronger personal brand, create more memorable content, and use Instagram as part of a larger marketing ecosystem instead of expecting it to do everything on its own. Whether you've been feeling stuck, uninspired, or simply know your current strategy isn't producing the results you want anymore, this episode will help you rethink how you're approaching Instagram so you can finish the year with more intention, creativity, and momentum. What you'll learn from this episode: Why optimizing individual posts is less important than building a memorable account. How to identify what you actually want to become known for. The difference between teaching information and creating original thinking. Why content series outperform disconnected posts. How to turn your everyday work and experiences into a sustainable content engine. The mindset shift from trying to sound smart to becoming recognizable. Why Instagram should support your broader marketing ecosystem instead of carrying your entire business. The identity shifts that will help you stay consistent long after motivation wears off. How to stop posting on autopilot and intentionally reset your strategy for the rest of the year. CONNECT: Connect with me on Instagram to see how I apply what I talk about on the episodes. My 18 year old son is obsessed with this brand. He's old enough to buy whatever he wants and he often opts for the toxic options but this is one exception. Today, I'm sitting down to chat with Vincenzo Speroni, the Chief Sack Officer of Gotchies. Vincenzo was always going to be an entrepreneur. After hosting lecture sessions in college where he gathered with friends to share ideas and brainstorms, a group of athletes, computer scientists, data analysts, students, musicians, and more landed on Gotchies. This week on ShrinkChicks, Em and Jen talk about the hard conversations that come with every stage of a relationship and why they're never just a one-time discussion. From marriage and finances to kids, careers, family dynamics, and major life transitions, they explore how healthy relationships require ongoing communication as life continues changing. They answer listener questions about bringing up a prenup, navigating seasons of sacrifice, deciding whether you're ready for kids, asking for help during uncertain life transitions, and telling a partner you want to leave a stable, high-paying job. Along the way, they discuss how fear shapes relationship decisions, why sacrifice only works when it's appreciated, and how to approach difficult conversations as teammates instead of opponents.Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! This week on ShrinkChicks, Em and Jen dive into what it really means to fight fairly in relationships and how conflict can actually bring couples closer when it's handled well. They explore the difference between productive conflict and escalation, and why learning how you and your partner argue is just as important as learning how you love. The conversation breaks down common conflict mistakes like bringing up the past, using blame or contempt, and not taking a pause when feeling activated. Em and Jen also discuss how to regulate your nervous system in real time, when to take a break during a fight, and how to repair after disagreement, especially in front of kids or when emotions are high. Listener questions cover how to stay grounded when you feel unheard, how to introduce healthier conflict tools to a partner who isn't used to them, and what to do when insecurities get activated in the middle of an argument. The episode centers on one core question: in moments of conflict, do you want to be right, or do you want to be close?Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! Wells can't believe that a World Series MVP (Mookie Betts) spent an entire round of golf calling him "Wellsy," and that World Cup tourists are trying to smuggle ranch dressing home through LAX. And Brandi is still knee-deep in a renovation nightmare that keeps getting worse. As if her reno experience wasn't terrible enough, a dumpster truck ran over two tubs of paint in Brandi's driveway, and one missing sink faucet has turned into a seven-week (and counting) waiting game. Meanwhile Wells had the best 24 hours of his year involving a pool party turned into hotdogs, oysters and martinis, a hungover 8:30am beer at his Golf Channel show, and a round at Lakeside with Dodgers star Mookie Betts where he shot the best round of his life, which led him to drink more, because personal best, duh! They came into today's episode with nothing prepped ("literally zilch"), so they end up settling the aioli-vs-ranch debate and workshop who'd be Matt's real-life hall pass since, apparently, he "doesn't have one."FAVORITE THINGS:Silo (Apple TV+)Extinction (Netflix)Ransom Canyon Season 2 (Netflix)The Crowded Room (Apple TV+)Dungeon Crawler Carl (audiobook)Star CityLife, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness (HBO)We do this show for the few YFTers that are still out there. Drinking is a really acceptable thing in the US. Most towns have liquor stores on every few corners. Every home decor store has products with some variation of the same, tongue-in-cheek humor: “Mommy's Go-Go Juice,” “I'm not whining, I'm wine-ing,” or “It's WINE O'CLOCK!” More often than not, explaining that you're sober can be more awkward than explaining that you binge drink every other weekend. In fact, in the 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 79.2% of people aged 12 and up reported that they had consumed alcohol at some point in their lifetime. Drinking is, for most people, considered “normal.” And for Laura McKowen, drinking was just a part of life – of work, of her social life, of relaxing. She didn't realize how destructive it was until things had gone too far and her brother confronted her, saying, “This is your thing. You can't drink.” Laura is here today to walk us through her addiction, guilt, turmoil, recovery, and path onwards, sharing the nine things that anyone facing addiction needs to hear. They have been moms for one quarter of that time and it shows. How do they cope? They laugh about all of the craziness that comes with being a mom and they want you to laugh about it too! From snot to stretchmarks to sleepless nights, Kristin and Jen know firsthand that parenting is a hard job and they invite you to join them in taking it all a little less seriously (even if for a few short minutes a day). After all, Jen currently has four days of dry shampoo in her hair and Kristin's keys are still in her front door. They try, they fail, they support each other, and they mom as hard as they can.
This week on ShrinkChicks, Em and Jen unpack insecurities: where they come from, why everyone has them, and how they quietly shape our relationships, careers, and sense of self. They explore the connection between insecurity and hyper-independence, why asking for help can feel so uncomfortable, and how comparison culture can keep us stuck. They also answer listener questions about needing reassurance in relationships, feeling hurt when someone's energy changes, worrying people won't like the "real" you, and what to do when you realize past choices were driven by insecurity instead of authenticity. Along the way, they discuss attachment, vulnerability, self-compassion, and how healing begins by challenging the stories we've carried for years. The Still Face Experiment mentioned in today's episode: https://www.gottman.com/blog/research-still-face-experiment/Tune in to gain insight, awareness, and action! Adoption is often viewed as a happy ending, and sometimes it is! But for Thenedra, her experiences as a child in the foster care system and later as a trans-racial adoptee were — and still are — much more complicated than that. This is an episode about what can happen when trans-racial foster and adoptive parents are not just unprepared to raise traumatized children, but also unprepared to raise Black children in a predominantly white society.
