Why haven't we been talking about JLo more here? Well, we're about to remedy that—and fill ya in on more, more, more design trends that are speaking to us right now.   The women artist biographies/books Claire will be picking up include Ninth Street Women: Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler: Five PaAnne Truittinters and the Movement by Mary Gabriel, Daybook: The Journal of an Artist by Anne Truitt, and Everything She Touched: The Life of Ruth Asawa by Marilyn Chase.   If you're also looking to do a JLo deep-dive, we recommend reading How to Fake It in Hollywood by Ava Wilder, Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman, the story of the full-page ad Ben took out back when, Vulture's Peoria, Illinois, analysis re: Marry Me, and this GQ article about THE dress. Also, listen to Just Like Us: The Tabloids that Changed America hosted by Clare Malone and watch the music video that Ben made to “On My Way To You” for Jen for Valentine's Day.   In the home-design realm, some inspiration comes from two incredible New Orleans hotels, Hotel St. Vincent and Hotel Peter and Paul.    Fellow lovers of yellow furniture should bask in Billy Cotton space for Grace Morton, Sophie Ashby's giant yellow velvet couch, and this kid's room.    If you're thinking of doing some furniture-painting on your own (inspiration: Matilda Goad's London home!), see Erin Boyle of Reading My Tea Leaves make-over a dresser on IG and read her guides for refreshing trim and kitchen cabinets.    Wood paneling—SO COOL. See: Sound View Hotel, Les Arcs ski resort, Jane Hallworth for Tinder co-founder Sean Rad and his Wife Lizzie Grover Rad, and Wall for Apricots.    On the Swedish tile stove front, we love painter Mary Nelson Sinclair's dining room, Victor Hugo's fireplace, Lindholm Kakelugnar, and this explainer from Messy Nessy Chic.   Your favorite niche JLo stories need an audience! This episode originally aired in June of 2016. Our guest is Erin Boyle, the blogger behind Reading My Tea Leaves and author of "Simple Matters: Living With Less and Ending Up With More". It's a gorgeously photographed and written book and its focus is on the joys of living with simple pleasures in a small Brooklyn apartment that Erin shares with her husband and young child. We cover all kinds of aesthetics on the podcast and have celebrated both maximalist and minimalist styles, and everything in between. Today, we think you'll be delighted to hear about Erin's very pared down, minimalist style that comes from a place of true happiness. We love that, for her, simple living is not about deprivation but about the beauty she sees in everyday ordinary things.

#009 — Having children invites chaos into your life. So if your work focuses on minimalism and simplicity, how do you align those themes with the bedlam of being a parent? For Erin Boyle, she says she seeks out the simple moments: The time spent reading stories to your kiddos at bedtime. The moments when your child is calmly eating cantaloupe. The five minutes in the morning you spend sitting on the kitchen floor with your three-year-old, drinking a smoothie. The entire day isn't simple, but parts of it can have calm and peace.   Erin Boyle is the writer of and editor of the lifestyle blog, Reading My Tea Leaves. Based in Brooklyn, Erin spent time living in a 173-square-foot apartment which inspired her path towards a more minimal, and beautiful, lifestyle. She believes that the elements of living simply are beneficial and accessible to us all, no matter the circumstances.   Now that she is the mother of two children under the age of four, with a six-month old in the house, simple moments are even more precious to Erin. Today she shares how her background in history and public humanities led her to explore the idea of ‘living small.’ I ask Erin about her gentle approach to self-improvement and how she defines courage within the context of being a parent. Listen in to learn how getting comfortable with uncertainty a big part of parenting, why she cautions against speaking about pregnancy in universal terms, and how you can embrace the ‘idyllic and beautiful’ moments in your life.  FULL SHOW NOTES:  Get the complete show notes with episode quotes, photos, and time stamps at www.startuppregnant.com/009.  EPISODE SPONSOR & SPECIAL OFFER:    Thank you to the sponsor of this episode: HippoGive! HippoGive is a new app that donates your change by rounding up your everyday transactions to the nearest dollar and gives it to the charities and non-profits of your choosing.  If you’ve been wanting to donate to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, or disaster relief you can use this app and it’s a piece of cake. All you need to do is create an account, choose your charity and then set a weekly donation cap.
